[Q] Spell Check woes - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi, I have got a UK Touch Pro 2 branded Vodafone but it has the latest standard HTC WM 6.5 ROM installed (after Hard SPL).
I have installed TomTom and fixed the BTTrayCE error that created and also patched the clock which annoyingly wants to always show a time 1 hour and 2 mins behind, before flipping down like a 70s alarm clock to the correct time. I’m sure the programmer thought this was fantastic, but it’s just annoying and pointless! (/rant).
My problem is that I can’t find the spell checker. On my older XDA phones and my Touch Pro 1, in text messaging after typing a message, I just did Menu --> Spell check. It even allowed me to add words which it stored in the custom.dic file which I have been carrying from device to device as I upgraded phones.
However, even using the ‘proper’ text messing in Messages-->All Messages --> new message, when I click on the menu button all I get is “Add Recipient, Insert >, Quick Text, Save as Draft and Discard”. There is no spell check option!
The Vodaphone ROM which was slow and full of bloatware and incorrect settings for my network did have a spell check under menu – as did all the previous versions of WM.
I have tried enabling the XT9 feature and it does the XT9 thing of suggesting words and selecting them when you press space. This is quite rubbish for two reasons, it doesn’t auto correct i to I and you have to watch each word carefully, because if you type “hell” it might autocorrect it to “he’ll” depending on what you last chose. This results in having to go back and change about 5 - 10% of words, which is really annoying.
I have fiddled with the XT9 settings under Start/settings/all settings/personal/input/options and the only selectable input method is “Touch Input” although the hardware keyboard works and the options don’t seem to make much of a difference.
I have been searching for 4 hours now and hope that you might be able to help, please!!

Does anyone have a similar problem? Does anyone know if the standard HTC ROM should have a spell checker or not?

How to repeat Text Message Notification

Is there a way to repeat "Play Sound" until you acknowledge the incoming text message? Repeat is grayed out in the notification area. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Allen
Hi Allen
I use DontForget for this and its a pretty good freeware/donationware program
http://blog.softimage.cz/?page_id=83
Its designed for WM5 smart phones but will work on any WM5 with a small registry tweak:
quote from developer Hujer:
However, you are running DF on the PocketPC device and it is intended for Smartphones in this version.
The next release version will run on PocketPCs as well (even this is not "real" PPC version).
For now you can try to "fix" it by adding following registry entries.
Please add following keys to you device registry:
Create the key HKCU\ControlPanel\Profiles
Create the key HKCU\ControlPanel\Profiles\Silent
Create the key HKCU\ControlPanel\Profiles\Loud
Create the key HKCU\ControlPanel\Profiles\Normal
Create the key HKCU\ControlPanel\Profiles\Meeting
Now you should be able to run the DontForgetAdmin and set up all parameters.
Please note that due to missing Profiles on PocketPCs you have to switch off following options in the Admin:
- deactivate in following profile:
- switch to following profile (in both deactivation and re-activation section)
Click to collapse
Enjoy!
"Dontforget" "dont" work for me...
I installed it and made the reg entries. But never have been able to get it to work. When I start the admin app I get...
"An unexpected error had occured in DontForgetAdmin.exe.
Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more infomation."
For Details...

Oh well... I guess I'll have to wait for the upgraded version unless someone has any idea about this???
Thanks,

Found this hack on another website, which seems to do the trick (and yes, I did try it first ) - only problem is, the notification seems to carry on "for a while" after you've read/deleted the text message.
Give it a go, see what you think.
Mark.
Repeat notifications for text and email messages
Under HKCU/ControlPanel/Notifications find the following keys for Email and Text messages:
A877d65Axxxxxxx
A877d65Bxxxxxxx
Also find Key 15F11F90xxxx for reminders.
Copy the Options value from the Reminders key and overwrite the options value in both email and text message keys with this value (1073741853)
Once you do this, go to start - settings - sounds and notifications - notifications.
Under events, select new email message OR new text message and you'll notice that the repeat option that was greyed out is now enabled and can be selected.
You need to power off (NOT Soft Reset!!) your device to ensure that the HKCU registry hive is written away correctly.
Click to collapse
I personally use phoneAlarm. Don't use this feature, but it can do the trick.
Great. But how do I...
Mark, Great reg hack but I have a question...
How do I tell which key is for what message applet?
Email ?
SMS ?
Palm SMS ?
Etc.
You have listed them for email and sms but is there a way to tell from within the key which one is for which msg applet?
Also, does anyone know where the value of "1073741853" is derived from?
@Padawan,
Each of the keys has a description field - just click on it in PHM RegEdit (or whatever you're using) and you can see what type of message action it relates to; e.g. A877d65B-xxxx-xxxx has "Messaging: New Text Message" as the value of the "Default" key.
The value "1073741853" is equivalent to 0x4000001D, and it's obviously some sort of bit mask - don't ask me what each bit means, coz I ain't found that out yet!
One other thing - the "Duration" key seems to be the length of time (in minutes) you want the notification repeated for - as I said earlier, it keeps going even if you've read/deleted the message, so it might be prudent to set it to 5 minutes in the Start | Settings | Sounds & Notifications | Notifications screen (it's the "Flash light for" setting). Setting it to zero/ seems to keep it going forever (well, I got bored of listening to it after 15 minutes and did a soft reset to shut it up ). You can also change it to another value (mine's set to 2 at the moment) using the registry editor.
Bit of a long reply, hope this explains everything in a bit more detail
Cheers,
Mark.

Read, read, read and read again......
I already posted that...about 8 hours ago.....if you'd bothered to read the thread, you would have known that.....
sigh
ok you're right, 1 unuseful post on 237 is acceptable... excuse me :emb:
Fair enough....apology accepted, you're free to go
Mark, Just got the "long reply"...
Outstanding! I thought it was probably a bit mask too.
I owe you a pint if your ever in Indiana.
WM6
Mark, I just realized you are running WM6.
I'm still using WM5 on a Wiz100.
Must be why these mods dont seem to work quite right for me.
Please excuse my momentary lapse of stupidity...
WM5 or WM6....shouldn't matter
@Padawan, I don't understand why these don't/aren't working with your WM5 device - I only upgraded to WM6 over the weekend and I had tried the registry changes before that (though I lost them after a soft reset and never bothered to put them back in) when my Hermes was running WM5.
I don't think the registry changes are the definitive answer - I'd like to find out what all the bits in the 0x4000001D value mean....that might help the solution be a little more elegant.
What is happening to you to make you say "these mods dont seem to work quite right for me" - do you get repeated notifications, or nothing at all??
Mark.
Testing...
Mark, I have not had time to do any real experimentation on what is working and what is not. I'll get some data in a couple of days.
For a little rant... I have tried apReminderPlus- joke, SuperAlert-joke, DontForget- didn't run, PhoneAlarm- bloated, slows my device. Why cant someone make a simple, small footprint, reminder config app that actually works? I love everything else about my Wiz100 except for the awful reminder/notifications disfunction. I would gladly pay for something that worked.
Rant over.
;-)
Don't Forget Does Work
But you have to use a small WAV file. I tried using a ring wav for it and it freaked out. When I used an Alarm1 -3 it's fine. It's working great.
What I don't understand is why do they have to Gray out the Repeat option thats already built into the OS? Seem's like that would be the easiest way for it to work.
Thanks, Allen
Original settings?
Mark, What were the original settings for the registry entries under:
HKCU/ControlPanel/Notifications find the following keys for Email and Text messages:
A877d65Axxxxxxx
A877d65Bxxxxxxx
Also find Key 15F11F90xxxx for reminders.
Copy the Options value from the Reminders key and overwrite the options value in both email and text message keys with this value (1073741853)
(Per your posting). I lost my notes. I thought it was "16". You were right... the notification seems to keep going after you have acknowledged it or dismissed it. Its a little annoying.
Anyway, I found this and am trying it out.
http://www.pocketmax.net/smf/index.php?PHPSESSID=6d01b99b3c3f6d40c466801ad6bee953&board=41.0
Found it on another posting on xda. Small footprint, lean app just for notifications.
Nice little app, will give it a try myself!
@Padawan,
Thanks for your response; as far as the original values for the Email/SMS registry keys go, I thought they were both set to "1" Theoretically, if you go back into the Sounds & Notifications applet, select the New email or New text event and turn off the repeat tick box, the values should revert to their default. I'll give that a try in a few minutes.....
EDIT: The above doesn't work!! What you need to do is to go into the registry keys again and rename "Options" to "XOptions" (or whatever). Then go back into Start|Settings|Sounds&Notifications again, select the Notifications tab and find the "New email" and "New text" events; you'll find that most of the options are un-ticked and that the repeat option is grayed out again - just tick the options you want and the "Options" key get re-created in the registry - mine was set to 13.
Hope this helps....post back with your experiences of the new app - I'd be interested to hear!
Cheers,
Mark.
alarmPal from Pocketmax
Mark, I have started a dialog with Penguin at pocketmax to add support for the PalmSMS and Emoze email inbox event. I'll keep you posted how it turns out. The "normal" sms and email event repeat notifications work fine so far with alarmPal. Give it a try and see what you think...
Pocketmax told be they'll try to get back to me by Monday.
Looks promising so far...

Removing Input Options

I recently purchased a second hand O2 Orbit and hated the keyboard input, so I have been lookin for the best text input for text messages, having installed about 5 different input options, I found an HTC diamond interface which is fine. However, having unistalled the other input options they still appear in the list when select which input I would like, but just show the keyboard when selected.
I was basically wondering how I can remove these options from appearing on this list so th\t when i come to choose my new input option, I dont have to scroll through a whole list.....
Also, since installing these it has slowed the XDA down loads and is really annoying, is this due to the amount I installed?? I havent done anything else in the mean time.
Cheers.
I use pockettweak for that. The homepage says it's for windows mobile 2003, but it still works fine on WM6.1

Default enable XT9 for physical keyboard layout

Hi guys,
Bit of an annoying one this that I hope one of you extremely clever registry devs can tweak for me.
When writing emails / text messages i always use the physical keyboard, however I like the XT9 setting as it automatically spell checks and inserts capitals / punctuation etc.
The problem is i can easily set it to XT9 in the settings or by opening the software keyboard and pressing the ABC / XT9 button
or
by using the green function key, space (XT9), XT9 English
but as soon as I've completed my message or turned off the handset etc. it's forgotten, meaning I have to do this manually each time.
Is there any way to set default as XT9 in registry?
Kind Regards
Darren
Anybody got any ideas here? Driving me mad doing it manually every time.
I've just got my new TouchPro2 and I'm suffering from exactly the same problem. I love the new phone but this is the one thing that's driving me nuts!
I used to have it in my TPro and now it's gone missing in the TP2
I know, well you can still use it but many keypresses per use.
Slightly annoying.
I find this highly annoying too. I don't see why it can't be in XT9 as standard or at least just remember the last setting used!?
It's working!!! I've just found out that if you activate T9 in the Full QWERTY virtual keyboard, you'll get it work using the hardware keyboard.
did you not even read the original post?
of course it works like that, however only for that session. as soon as you're done and try and send another text or email etc you'll have to press those buttons again to activate it.
I don't have any problem typing using T9 messages after another using the hardware keyboard...
Even after I soft reset it, it's still working
haha brilliant, worked it out.
Here's the fix...i think.
Open new message in portrait, open software keyboard, click XT9 and then OK to close the window.
Rotate handset and do the same, open software keyboard, select XT9 and quit using "OK".
After this it should default to XT9.
You need to use the OK to close though and save the setting. If you send or cancel your settings will be forgotten.
This will save for all portrait and landscape modes. You'll need to do it for each area but i can agree that i have it saved in texts and emails now.
No more having to repeat actions over and over again.
Edit: seems to only save sometimes, also totally unable to save the XT9 setting in Touchflo conversation mode with text messaging.
bump...
I really enjoy using the functionality of xt9. And subsequently would greatly appreciate it having it available while using the hardware keyboard. any thoughts of having this available by default without having to set it to XT9 each time i open the keyboard
There has to be a registry setting somewhere...

It does "per session" but it does not stick on program close/reset.
boooooooooooooooooooo....man i hope someone can figure this out
Has anyone figured this out? It's really annoying that I have to enable XT9 with several different keystrokes at the beginning of any txt msg...

HD/WVGA Tweak
On some customer ROM's I have seen a program called WVGA or HD Tweak. I searched and found CAB file for this as well. In this software, there is an option to turn on X9 all the time. You can also set how many suggested words to pop up. It reminds me of how the WING would operate when it suggested words!
Wow, thread starter, you read my mind. I've been looking for something like this since the day I got my phone.

This turns on Windows Default X9, which makes phone SIP & compact qwerty SIP inoperable (only outputs numbers). So, this in no way is a fix.
And, the cab you're referring to is EZInput 1.5 specific, has 0 affect on EZInput 2.x.

same thing happened to me when I tried to use it. Turns the phone SIP inoperable.
no solution for this issue yet? (aka, bump!)

GPS / Battery status / Selecting text or messages

Hello,
This is actually my first post on XDA; in the past I only downloaded the great roms for my older HTC Touch and never posted something. Now I'm the proud owner of the TP2 and have some questions to ask
It's a great phone, but there are a few things I can't get working properly. I'd like to excuse myself for the awful English I'm writing, but that's because I'm a "Dutch guy" (I also have a default Dutch rom btw)
The Questions
[1] GPS, I've applied all of the tweaks I've found on the Rhodium forum for a better GPS response, I've also installed TomTom 7 - v7.910.9185 with Western Europe 1GB 815.2024. When I try to navigate I don't get an GPS fix, the gps on my TP2 has never worked before. I also tried 'quick gps' for getting some gps settings, but that also didn't work.
[2] On my old HTC touch I could press the battery-icon on top of the taskbar to quickly see the remaining battery-power. Now you get the 'notification screen'. The notification screen is quite good, but I'd like to see my battery-power in just one or two presses.
[3] I'm using Opera browser and when I go to any kind of websites, which have thumbnails of images on it, I have to press several times before the phone opens the link 'behind' the thumbnail image. I also can't select any text on a webpage. How do I fix this?
[4] On my sms inbox I want to select multiple messages with just a sweep on the touch screen. I've read somewhere on the forum that you can change this with a simple registry tweak, but I can't find it anymore.
[5] the TP2 has I nice Facebook future, here in the Netherlands Facebook isn't that popular, Hyves is the rulling social network over now, does anyone now if HTC is going to release a Hyves plugin instead of facebook?
[6] the TP2 stores contact pictures in a larger format than outlook, but because I've imported some photo's to my contacts via outlook, they all have a resolution of 72x72px, which looks quite blurry at my touch pro.. is there any option to increase the resolution of the outlook contact pictures? I've searched on the net, but no luck so far..
[7] I've installed the .cab which gave me the option to delete the first 4 icons on the start menu, but I accidently removed the 'settings' icon, and can't set it back anymore..
[8] My last question, where did the 'audio manager' go? On the tabs you've something like audio manager, but it's always running on the background, right? I want to start it at my own.
In the past; on my HTC touch, I've mapped the camera hardware button to launch 'audio manager', but on the TP2 it isn't even listed anymore at the program list.
Thank you for reading and helping me out!
Brent
EDIT: [9]whoops, another question came up in my mind.. Is it possible to activate the light sensor all the time? When I'm calling someone the screen turns off when you hold the phone next to your ear.. this would also be an nice option for putting your mobile in your pocket or something.
[1] solved: I did a hard reset and then it worked
[2] solved: I installed a customized notificationscreen
[7] solved: After the hard reset the icon was back

Issue with Google Keyboard personal dictionary on lollipop 5.02

I just updated my SM-T800 to lollipop 5.02 (T800XXU1BOCC_T800XAC1BOC4_XAC) and I'm using google keyboard. The problem I'm having is that I can't add words to the dictionary. ie. if I type "haha" I have the option of selecting "Hanna" or other similar words but I can't select "haha" and "touch to save" doesn't appear. I think there's a problem with the personal dictionary or loading the personal dictionary. When I go into [settings-general-language and input-google keyboard settings-google keyboard-text correction] and tap on personal dictionary I'm routed to wifi settings. I have tried a factory reset and reflashing the stock rom twice.
Is anyone else having this problem? Is anyone able to help?
No personal dictionary

Yes, I am.
The normal route to add to or edit sends me to my Network settings.
Using stock android, Google Now launcher. 5.0.2.android. Google keyboard
Had to reset tablet and reinstall everything. Since then...gone.
Annoying obviously.
No idea why, how it happened.

Hi. I have the same issue. Non more solution ?
This problem persists until now, June 2016.
Yes I have this also. Android 5.0.2 on a note pro tab. My phone (6.0.1) does not rout me to the wifi settings in the same way, but still seems to be missing the option to add words on the fly as you type them. Does this mean that the only way to add words to your personal dictionary is to record them somewhere and then do so directly via the settings interface? How archaic..
It also took me a while to realise that the settings can only be accessed via the comma button (long press) from the keyboard itself, as there is now no flag to alert you to this since the recent update, and apparently no other way in.
Nevertheless, and even in the absence of any 'add to dictionary' option, the dictionary did seem to fill up with endless amounts of partial, wrong, or capitalised words (for instance I just got 'Calif' when I typed the 'capit' just now - what is a Calif'???).
I deleted all data from the app, but still they come, as Jare said. I would love to be able to access whatever dictionary this thing is using, and kill it, because it is not English. If there is a supplementary dictionary of acronyms and abbreviations and cultural slang then that should be an option you can opt out of.
A Spell checker should never autocorrect to a word that is not correct in the language you are writing - this is rather obvious I would have thought. For people who work on this gear full time a bit more control would be great.
