I have created a number of subfolders in my new hotmail, and i have set hotmail to sort my email from recipients in these folders.
so i really need to be able to see my folders in a mail app i want to use on my desire.
the standard mail app does not work yet (cannot create exchange activesync account)
i have tried maildroid and k9. they can connect with hotmail and show my inbox, but i can not get them to show my folders.
does anyone have an idea on how to solve this with the programs. or with another program maybe?

Good news for Googlemail/gmail users... IMAP supoport now implemented, so you can schedule checks of your mail account and manage mails whilst keeping synced up with the gmail servers...
serversettings: imap.gmail.com:993
smtp.gmail.com:587 use SSL
user name is [email protected] or [email protected] etc...
If you set up labels in gmail, these appear as folders in your artemis mailbox, so moving a mail to a folder on your atremis has the effect of adding a label to it and moving it to 'All Mail' in gmail.
In the advanced mail options, make sure you check to delete mail off server when deleting, otherwise all deleted mail stays in the gmail all mail folder.

How does this feature work if you want to download your email to both your artemis and a desktop? I reckon you need to leave a copy of the message on the server in order to download it twice (phone and pc) right?
thnx in advance.
greetings,
Bartse

That's exactly why you need IMAP instead of POP3 - IMAP leaves all the mail on the server, and keeps a folder structure on the server. When you download, it only downlaods a copy, the original stays on the server but gets marked as read. If you move it on your phone or pc, it will be moved on the server too - you effectively are syncing mail folders on the server, your phone and your pc.
I have a Gmail IMAP acct setup (not using the Outlook Email acct; this is an ordinary IMAP acct for Gmail) and syncing with Inbox. However, other personal folders in my acct do not sync. I placed a checkmark in the box next to the folder I need to sync but mail in those folders is only downloaded. If I delete an email in one of them it does not get deleted in the same folder on the server.
Is this how it works for these folders?
Do I need to to set it up differently for full synchronization to work?
I think I finally got it to work! After trying all the settinngs I think that Delete on Connect/Disconnect did the trick.
As you know, we have two different email program in stock rom. "Mail" and "Gmail".
You have to be a google account for to use market and other stuffs. If you add a gmail account to your device your mails checking by "Gmail". You cannot add any POP3 account to Gmail. You should use for stock "Mail" Program for this.
It's look like to for every account we need a different mail program. It's boring and stupid idea. Yes we can add gmail acc. to stock Mail program but this solution is not good, either. Because we are using same account with different programs.
There is a mail program called K-9, we can install this and transfer all account the this program but basic problem is continuing: We must continue to use for "Gmail". We cannot remove gmail acc from this program and to use mail we need 3 different programs
I find this really unlogic.
P.S. I'm sorry for my poor English.
Don't see the issue myself, Gmail is just that, an app for gmail, if you don't want to use gmail then don't sync gmail. I use Gmail, and Mail for a hotmail and an Exchange account. You can use Mail for gmail but you won't have the full functionality of gmail.
i use k-9 since it supports push for imap
not using gmail at all. neither for desire nor at all.

Hello Yappay,
You seem a little confused. There are two main ways to access E-Mail on Android:
1. A dedicated app for a certain E-mail provider. The Gmail app on your phone is such a dedicated app, and offers decent background syncing because it's tightly integrated with the system and is configured to poll and receive push notifications for new mail in a way that's very efficient. The problem here is that these dedicated apps can only connect to their respective e-mail services: The Gmail app can only connect to Gmail, the Yahoo!Mail app can only connect to Yahoo, and so on.
2. A generic E-mail app that can connect to various E-mail providers through interfaces like IMAP or POP. The app "E-Mail" on your phone is one of these, as is K9-Mail or Maildroid. It's possible to add multiple accounts to these, including Gmail accounts, because Gmail supports both POP and IMAP.
If you really want to use only one app for all your E-mail, you can add all of your accounts to one of the programs from the second category. I'd recommend IMAP for the connection, because it keeps the server up-to-date with any changes you make to e-mails in the program (moving them to different folders, deleting e-mails etc.).
I use IMAP email client with any different folders and when i have a new message in a folder (not inbox folder) i can't get any email notifications.
I try any different email client (stock, k9, profimail) but i haven't found a way to get email notifications.
I can set up the different email folder for synchronization but i haven't got any notifications when the message arrive.
Anyone can help me?
Hi, I'm using CM10 and I can't synchronize my email subfolders - only the Inbox is synchronized. I can browse the subfolders and sync them manually but I never get notifications for emails going to the subfolders. The mail is MS exchange 2010. Any ideas? Maybe another version of the apk for the email?
