xda orbit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on 3?

yay i got one! but i tested to nsee if it was unlocked so i put my 3 sim in and it worked! but it comes up as orange?
well anyhow what are the gprs settings for 3
i wouldnt mind all the free 3 stuff? so anyone out there who can help meh?
ipwnage!
Hmmm, the reason it says Orange is because that is what network you are on. 3 is a 3g only network, your Orbit cannot do 3g, therefore falls back onto it's networks roaming agreement with Orange.
The worse news I have for you is that 3 will notice that you are permanently roaming which costs them money and is against their terms and conditions. They will then bar your SIM card and send you a new one which won't work in a non 3g phone at all.
If you want further clarification or to check what I'm saying head over to http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/ and ask them.

[Q] Tmobile customer traveling to Canada

Hey everyone- not new to the community but i need some help in figuring out what exactly needs to be done for me to get service in Toronto.
I have tmobile and i refuse to pay the roaming charges they have for Canada- I plan to use a telus or rogers prepaid sim. Which one should i choose and why? i am only there for the weekend too so dont need a bunch of minutes or anything.
Also- i have put in a request to get my phone unlocked through tmobile. Once i have it unlocked- do i just pop in either a Telus or Rogers SIM and be on my way? or is there more to it such as flashing a specific radio??
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Can't help you regarding which operator to pick . I can however tell you that once you receive the network unlock code , simply pop in the SIM card and move on. That's all there is to it.
yup it's that easy
just punch in the unlock code and you are done
you can use any network you want, since our phone is Pentaband, it will work with any operator with a SIM card in Canada
might want to turn of auto DATA sync as it will eat up your pre-paid in record time
data charges are ridiculous on pre-paid cards, so use manual sync for only the stuff you need to find/get
Thanks for the reply guys- I received the unlock code from Tmobile today and applied it using an ATT sim card.
So i dont have to flash any modems/radios? saw something in another thread about that or is that strictly to gain 3g/4g speeds on those carriers?

World Phone Opinions

Hey guys, just wanted to see what peoples experiences have been with the world phone capabilities. I will be travelling to New Zealand this December and want to get an idea of the best way to go about using my phone there.
I am currently running UKB, but would plan on using something stock like andybonestock for my travels...(unless we actually get the ics source before XMAS and we have a stock ics ROM that is 100% functional). I was thinking about buying a certain amount of data while there so I don't have to rely solely upon wifi hotspots.
What have you fellow users been doing when going abroad and what was your experience?
I just got back from a 2 wk trip in Italy and ran AndyBoneStock just like you're thinking.
I simply used the preinstalled SIM card from Vzw and had them activate it so it would work with their European partner, Vodafone--more expensive than unlocking it and installing a local SIM card but I wasn't really planning to use the phone too much and this way I'd keep my own telephone number. I also signed up for Vzw's 100MB of global data for $25, as much for insurance against the occasional or accidental overcharge as anything else.
I was able to make and receive calls pretty much everywhere BUT the data connectivity SUCKED. Maybe it was the fault of their European partner, Vodafone or maybe I screwed up some setting, but I could only pick up a data signal the first couple of days and from then on, no data on the go (even in major cities like Venice, Florence and Rome). I kept getting notification that I'd lost data roaming but clicking the notification would only jump me to the mobile data settings page where I already had data roaming enabled, so I was never able to sleuth it out. I ended up relying on WiFi for email and web connectivity. And when I landed back in the US, my phone locked on to 3G within a few seconds, so I'm thinking it wasn't my settings. \_O_/
And another note, texts from the US always came through blank, with a "message format not supported" message. WTF?
So, what's the take-home lesson? See if you can talk to somebody who's traveled to NZ and get tips on whose carrier to use--Vzw's or a local SIM once you've unlocked your phone.
Not a problem
I've used the phone in Germany, France, Switzerland, London, and Malaysia with no problem. I called Verizon and had the SIM unlocked so I was able to use local SIM cards. I'm running rooted stock so I can't comment on any custom ROMs.
I've used the phone in India, Amsterdam and London - stock rooted worked fine in each location. I had VZ unlock the phone right after I got it, but used the built-in Vodafone SIM and never tried a pay-as-you-go SIM since there really wasn't any need.
On my last trip, CM 7.2.0 worked fine with an APN change to use the "VZW Embedded GSM" settings I pulled from the stock ROM. The phone would switch from Orange to O2 to Vodafone NL depending on whatever it found in the area. Speeds were pretty decent as well. Texting worked, but I never tested MMS so I can't comment there.
This phone has been excellent for those reasons: working CM7 port, world radios and decent speed/features/battery life. It will be a tough search to find a suitable replacement.

Thanks. Are you guys referring to the stock froyo - downgraded root as the ROM? It would be nice to use something like CM7 over the froyo...more options and whatnot.
i used my dinc2 both in germany and in india during a trip. i had two pretty bad mistakes during this time.
one was that i forgot to have my sim unlocked so i had to wait for a week before i could ask my family in the U.S to call verizon and get the unlock code. i did get a few calls before i got a local sim that i mistakenly took and was charged the ridiculous roaming fee. i think it was like 8 dollars for just 3 minutes of talking.
after unlocking it, making and receiving calls were fine, but my data connection was a pain in the a$$. apparently vzw phones cant get apn settings automatically, so unless you have internet to look them up your screwed. i didnt know this at the time and i kept annoying the cellular guy because i thought he messed something up, but it was in fact my phone. i'd recommend getting an app like tweakker to get your apn settings automatically, provided you do have wifi connection.
other than all that, the phone is pretty great abroad. but i would like to know if anyone else got a full 3G connection abroad. for some reason i was only getting edge speeds.
ps. make sure you put your phone in gsm mode and not in global mode once you get a local sim.
I'd like to know how this goes for people, too. I will be traveling to Mexico and buying a Telus SIM or two for the trip.
Plan to use my DInc 2 and a used Aria for me and my wife.
My DInc 2 is unlocked and rooted but my first attempt at using a T-Mobile SIM was unsuccessful (on Skyraider). Will flash rooted 2.3.4 OTA and install tweakker apk and see how things go. Thanks to all for their input on this thread.
Would love to hear if CM7 is working well with GSM networks.

I've used mine in Europe with a sim from ekit. Reasonable price and good connectivity.
For New Zealand, they charge 49 cents per megabyte.
UK & Ireland
I unlocked my Dinc2 before heading to the UK and Ireland (really simple phone call to Verizon). I was running aeroevan's cm9 from 8/22 while I was overseas. While in the UK, I went to ASDA - the Walmart of Britain and bought a prepaid SIM (it's actually a Vodafone SIM) for 20 pounds that had 500MB of data, unlimited texts and 1000 minutes (I think). Popped the SIM in and filled out the APN settings under System Settings > Wireless & Networks: More > Mobile networks > Access point names. Changed the Network mode to GSM/WCDMA preferred and was good to go. While in Ireland, I got an O2 SIM for about the same price with a little more data. Changed the APN settings to O2 and was good to go there, too.
Hope that helps.

Were you able to get 3G speeds doing this? I have read reports of some users stuck on edge when using GSM data.

Need help on Tmobile

Got my zl today excited then let down by problems with internet, so i insert sim and it picks up tmobile and auto download settings then when it start downloading google play apps it hangs. I go to chrome loop up a page get "error 502 bad request the server could not resolve your request", i have full bars and H+ but wont connect. I also notice that when i insert the sim i can just pull it out with out pressing down on it. Any help...
UPDATE: Got it working just need to tweak the APN settings, for future tmobile user the automatic download setting are not correct here is the link for Tmobile settings http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1979

T-Mobile
I know the ZL (6506) is capable of working with T-Mobile's new LTE network, but my question concerns the IMEI number and your account with T-Mobile. On AT&T, your account has to have an IMEI number that is known and recognized by AT&T so as to enable LTE connectivity. Is this also the case with T-Mobile??

The info or where you got your info is incorrect. you DONT have to have a IMEI number that is known to AT&T to have LTE. I have changed phones prob 20 times since I got my first LTE phone and NEVER had to change it again.
You can be on the LTE data plan and everything work fine on a old dumb edge phone then put the sim card back in an LTE device and it still work fine...
LTE worked fine on a Canda Note 2 and One X
Same here. TMo does not care. I just started using my ZL teo days ago, before that was Nexus 4. Just took the SIM from the N4 and inserted in the ZL. All works!

Hey people, I'm seriously considering picking up a Sony Xperia ZL C6502 Black. I'm aware that it doesnt support LTE on either network, but the price is insanely lowwww! My question is, does anyone know what kind of speeds I can expect to see on TMO and ATT respectively? I'm currently using an ATT Gnote 2 on ST/ATT and I have a Nexus 4 as a backup which I use on the TMO $30/"unlimited" data plan. I only point this out to indicate that I don't get LTE speeds now, which sorta makes it a "You can't miss what you never had" type of deal. I roughly get about 14-17mbs down on either device. Is there any chance I'd enjoy the same with the 6502 on either of these plans??? Any help/insight or even opinions, would be greatly appreciated.
The speeds to expect will be the same as you have now.......

i just received my ZL C6502 today and noticed that the data connection does not work at all. i followed the APN settings on the t-mobile link you gave and still no dice (it does show full bars and H+ as you mentioned and when i switch the SIM to my old G2X its on full HSPA+ speed). i left the house and it was running ok suddenly and streamed netflix, etc. but when i went home it lost the connection again. I'm suspecting that this phone does not really work on t-mo's 1700 AWS even though the box says so and that i only got online outside the house because that area is on the 1900mhz refarm. is there any difference to t-mo's AWS 1700 and regular HSPA 1700mhz?! any insight or help is appreciated!!
I have a 6506 on TMo so I am limited in help. However, someone in my office has a 6502 on TMo and it is working fine. He had trouble until he manually set it. Same case as mine.
Perhaps you have a defective unit? Try removing and reinserting the SIM card. Perhaps a factory reset.
I had mine for almost a month and has been flawless in LTE when in DC and HSPA in Dallas.
Sendt fra min ZL 6506
The 6502 is the same as 6506 but without lte it should work I don't have 1900 coverage and I'm always on hspa and there's no lte were I'm at either. U need to make sure the apn is set exactly there should not be any values under proxy and port also under apn type have it blank that was the issue with mine those three things had values and was messing up internet. Also there's three different apn you have use. 1. Fast.tmobile.com (Lte), 2. Epc.tmobile.com, 3. Internet2.voicestream.com. Give it a try.

thanks for the help guys. ive gathered all that info earlier and did try the three APNs different combinations / proxy - no proxy, etc to no avail. i'm leaning on faulty hardware or messed up radio. i'll just sleep over it but so far its been disappointing :crying: great phone though...
As a quick update I did literally sleep over it and I'm happily up and running with hspa.. I literally left the phone alone overnight lol. Rooted the fone and all I need is to figure out how to get to recovery to put CWM since pressing vol up at boot is not working and flashboot isnt going either (that's for another post). Moody bastard this ZL is.. Anyway Thanks again!

I have a 6506 on TMo without any issues. I live in LA without TMo LTE, but speeds have been as high as 18Mbps in West LA. I only have the issues of bad coverage at my house, but that's just TMo and not the phone.

That's the thing you had an LTE phone AT&T had in their system when your account was provisioned for LTE so you never had a problem after that. For those people that have the ZL as their first LTE phone on AT&T they will have to first get the account setup for LTE using a phone AT&T recognizes on their network.
So basically put the SIM in an AT&T LTE phone, have AT&T provision it for LTE then once that's done you can put it in any other LTE phone and it will work fine
