Was wandering if there are any plans for this since the procedure to root SLCD with a disabled screen, trying to find where to touch the options is almost impossible for average non techies like me :/ anyone here has heard/read anything about it?
I have an Slcd desire and rooted using instructions found on this forum easily. You need to push a non default recovery think its clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 but going from memory there. Search function is your friend here.

This is only necessary if you have to downgrade your hboot. if you have a hboot version < 0.92 use this guide instead: [ROOT] Method for HBOOT 0.83 (SLCD phones)

well most desires do as they come preloaded with Froyo..
You have no idea how much of a pain this is
bump..Anyone has heard anything? :S
It isn't anything to do with SLCD support, it's that unrevoked3 cannot root froyo.

I thought only the new SLCD Desire's had 0.92?
I've tried to root it using Unrevoked and of course it couldn't because its Froyo and no root is out yet. Did something happen to my HBOOT while doing it eg. going from what it was to 0.92?

As far as I'm aware the SLCD Desires have HBOOT 0.83. If you have bootloader 0.92, it's because you updated to Froyo OTA.
Regards,
Dave
You can't root because you upgraded to Froyo. The bootloader isn't involved, but was updated as part of that process. Read this FAQ:

Are you sure you've got an SLCD Desire? I've got an AMOLED Desire and after the FroYo update I had HBOOT 0.92...downgraded it to run a custom ROM using the method on this forum posted by AdamG

No I don't have SLCD..
Thanks a lot for the replies, seems everything is in order then
So i have looked up on this program (i used it to root my old x10), on some websites it roots the Desire on others it doesn't
I know Unrevoked will root it but will this?
Has anybody used this to root there desire
regards
No, but it should work (from what i heard) on the "older" Desires, however for newer Desires, unrEVOked is recommended (mainly SLCD/PVT4).
Well i have the newer SLCD desire, with the 093 hboot, i only want root though not a custom recovery image
You can't, you need the recovery image to flash a new ROM. Just use unrEVOked, I gave you the link for the stock ROM so you can always go back to 100% stock if needed
I know eddy im just unsure about it at the moment

It's a very simple process so long as you read and 100% follow a decent guide. Here's one that's meant to be good:

i have just been reading this guide to rooting my htc desire (original) and im not sure on this;
***This method only works for users with hboot 0.93 and lower. Sorry 1.06 users, but until unrevoked updates, your stuck on stock htc***
my desire is running on hboot 0.93.0001, does this mean i cant use this method.
You can use this method with your Desire.
0.93 hboot refers to your version actually.
many thanks mate, may have a go later after the IO

i have a htc desire running dev version 2.3.3.
on androidforums it mentions ARA build. what is this as it says ARA (2.xx.415.x) is required by i see no numbers like this on my phones software information
also it says if you have PVT4 you need to see if you have 40,000 erase size. as far as i can tell i only have 20,000 erase size. is this ok or do i need to change anything?
If you need a tutorial on how to root the phone. Heres a really good one i used. It has youtube videos to.

If you go and read the various guide over on android forums they are quite clear if you read them a couple of times. But to answer your queries, ara build relates to the Arab states so unless you got your desire from the middle east don't worry about it. The pvt 40000 relates to the custom recovery you need to select if you have a pvt of 40000 you need amon RA instead of clockwork mod.
If you are running the HTC dev 2.3.3 ruu up grade I believe you will have a h-boot of 1.02 or something similar and therefore need to use revolutionary.ie to root and then flash the relevant custom recovery . Which I you have checked you pvt using a terminal emulator as 20000 clockwork mod 2.0.5.7 I think it is. Hope this helps and check the guides by suroot on android forum and if you get stuck have a search on android forum as most things have already been covered .....
Enjoy your desire
If I was helpful don't forget the thanks.....

Not 100% sure, as I rooted on a lower hboot so don't want to give you wrong information
check out this link, whilst it may not answer your question directly it will point you in the right direction.

hope it helps, i will have a search about and if I find anything else will post back, but SUroot and rastaman should be able to answer your queries over at android forum
You have to use revolutionary, which my guide you quoted states. You cannot use unrevoked

Hello
I've been asked by my dad to root his HTC Desire, to remove bloat and make it faster and last longer, etc etc.
But i've run into some problems. (Let me just say i'm not a complete noob at rooting, i've rooted Desire HD, EVO 3D and a Prime tablet before, and flashed roms etc etc)
I've successfully downgraded it from Android 2.2 with HBOOT 1.02 (i think thats the one) to Android 2.1 with HBOOT 0.80. And i've succesfully rooted it.
Now i want to S-OFF the device, but Revolutionary doesn't support the HBOOT 0.80, it requires 0.93 or 1.02.
I've also read about the AlphaRev S-OFF method, but thats super old and it even says to use Revolutionary.
My end plan is to install LeeDroid rom (My dad wants to keep HTC Sense, but want it fast, and LeeDroid was the best rom i could find for this, or is there something better?).
In LeeDroid it also says it needs to create a ext-3 partition with ROM Manager, but i can't even find ROM Manager on the market, is that because of the fact that i'm currently running android 2.1, or?
I hope some good people out here can help me with my problems

First off: Don't use "bump" posts after just 10 hours. This is not "Instant Help".
Alpharev may be old, but works fine.
Don't even think about using ROM Manager, it will break your phone. Create the ext partition with gparted.
I don't know about Sense Roms, but i think you can use just any. Depends on which version you prefer. Best for performance and battery life should be the lower ones, like LeeDroid.

I quote everything.
I have S-OFFed my Desire with Alpharev and encountered no problem at all.
a) use alpharev
b) upgrade to 2.3 ruu and use revolutionary
c) rtfm made by Bortak

Revolutionary would be the easiest option. A few clicks and your phone is rooted, S-off and has clockworkmod recovery.
