I updated to t-mobile's OTA update and was fine until i started getting phone process FCs. So while i wait for the t-mobile replacement phone, i thought i'd see some of the roms available.
I used the new root method to flash the ENG build, and it say something vaguely about installing Clockwork Recovery. But it doesn't say how to install it. With tis, i assume clockwork being installed mean when i do the Vol Down + Power boot and select recovery, it takes me to Clockwork recovery instead of the default recovery. I however only get to the default and have to load Clockwork from the update.zip file on my sd card.
Any help in explaining what to do (i don't want to go messing around with stuff like this blindly when i have to send the phone back to t-mobile so soon).
clockwork is an update.zip to be kept on the root of your sd card, you will need to flash it each time you enter recovery, when you have gotten to default recover then you need to press vol up+power, and then apply update.zip which should take you to clockwork
Thanks for the response. That is kinda what I was thinking after doing a bit more reading.

I have had no problems doing anything except getting the update.zip to get me into Clockwork. I flashed the ENG build according to the steps to the letter. (With some idiotic blundering in between.) I may just revert back to stock and try all over again. Any other suggestions?

I've successfully rooted the phone, can shell as su, loaded the esprimg successfully, but when attempting to load the update.zip from sdcard in android recovery I get the validation error. I've recopied the update.zip from the slideroot.zip also. This is second time I've restarted the entire rooting process; the first time it was bootlooping with any slideme rom so I wiped and flashed the stock rom back. The phone returned to stock settings successfully. Before the bootloop I was able to access Clockwork without loop.sh procedure. This time however, attempting to update the radio I can't get into clockwork. Other than using the loop.sh, anyone have any suggestions?

I assume you used the ESPRIMG image to go back to stock? You lost your recovery test keys, you need to redo the engineering image.
I should have specified... the esprimg I was referring to was that of the eng build. I have since been able to loop into clockwork mod and update the radio. Still no dice getting into clockwork straight from recovery like I should be able to.
Also, what function does the 'verify keys' option in clockwork have?

Hey guys hope someone can help me out here. I just updated my phone to the latest OTA Rooted ROM and everything was working fine. Then I used Rom Manager to download the latest Fresh 3.0.?? ROM. When it downloaded it asked if I wanted to backup ROM and wipe data. I checked both on. Then phone rebooted and it wont get past white HTC Evo4G screen. I did vol down and power and I go to Recovey and again it freezes on this screen. I cant access my sd card to put any recovery stuff on the phone. How do I get past this?? This sucks

I had the same issue this morning loading the new Fresh Rom. "Stuck at White HTC EVO" screen. Just do a battery pull to restart your phone and let it boot up normally. It should be able to load after that.
Thanks a lot fuzion. I could have sworn I tried that last night but I guess I didn't. So I guess no Fresh ROM ?? Anyway to get it on ?
You could try loading one of the PC36IMG zips on your sd using an adapter to go back to stock and start over
Well I got my phone back on and working with the 2.2 OTA rooted back the way it was. I go into ROM manager and I made sure to do the ClockworkMod Recovery install. When I turn on the phone with vol down + power I select Recovery it just freezes on the Evo 4g screen. Never takes me to the recovery menu like I used to have. Anyone have any idea why??
Let's do a checklist:
1. Full root including NAND unlock (i.e. NOT Unrevoked)?
2. Installed and re-installed latest ROM Manager, and then latest CWM?
3. Copied Fresh 3.1.0.1 to root of SD card?
4. Booted into recovery using either CWM option or power+volume up?
5. You don't have an old PC36IMG.zip on your SD card, do you?
6. If you can get into recovery, do all your flashing from there, and DON'T FORGET to do data, cache, and dalvik wipes.
7. If all else fails, maybe use CWM to flash Amon RA instead and try that way.
8. If all THAT fails, go back to toast's guides and re-root everything.
Other long shots: Install Titanium Backup and use that to install BusyBox. I have no idea if this would help, maybe it's totally unrelated. Also, you could use an app called Quick Boot to reboot into recovery, but if selecting the reboot option from CWM doesn't work, I don't know why QB would.
And one more thing: Don't be throwing the term "bricked" around when you're clearly not even close to bricked.
My phone is permanently rooted using visionary, and I have flashed clock work recovery from rom manager, but when I try to boot into recovery it just shows the phone with the red triangle? Can any one help me.
Thanks

From what I have read elsewhere, re-flash Clockwork Recovery.
Doesn't work.

You're supposed to only download and flash recoveries from Rom Manager if you're on wi-fi since T-mobile caches web pages but I was able to get around this by flashing an older version (in Rom Manager) and immediately reflashing the correct recovery (without rebooting or even leaving RomManager).
Of course you can always download the recovery.img file and fastboot flash it.
me too
Same issue. Trying to boot into recovery gives pic of phone with red triangle.
- I reflashed clockwork recovery (not sure is this helped)
- manually went into recovery manager from rom manager menu which loaded w/o problems
- selected backup and restore
- perform backup
seems like it is working...
Volume-up + power. If you already did that then i dunno

fix permissions in rom manager and reflash clockwork
recovery mode
newbie here, or course. back after 2 years away with BBerry, g2 cant get past recovery. i am looking for a way to get my device to turn back on... basically when i try to fastboot, it say i have the wrong image, or no image, fails to load E: sd card failed. i have acces to another G2 so i can get a copy of the stock rom image but has not worked::: i need assistance in this process. what do i need to load from the sd card to make my G2 turn back on or is this what bricking your device is? i have access to the recovery screen and can still load info from the sd card.
thanks for any info.
Are you saying your rom doesn't boot? Are you s-off? And if so can you get into recovery?
FYI - people generally don't fastboot from the SD, are you sure you were in fastboot mode and not hboot?
Okay, so here's the deal. I have an Evo. I rooted it using unrEVOked, updated the Clockwork and all was well. Well I started having a few issues so decided I wanted to RUU back to stock. Well then I noticed it still said S-Off and had the Revolutionary thing at the top in the Fastboot menu. I then tried running the Revolutionary Root and it said it had the S-Off already. It asked me if I wanted to download install Clockwork so I did. Now I currently have no recovery and don't believe I have root. The phone still powers on and works functionally. I am just wondering how to regain my root and recovery. Any ideas?
You have s-off correct but no recovery? Is that right?

Yes, and I used root checker and it says I have no root.
Have you tried flashing a recovery like amon ra
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
You need the two attached files.
Place the PC36IMG file (after you change the name to PC36IMG) on the root of your SD card. Then run the update through your bootloader (power off, then volume down + power button).
Then flash the su file from your new custom recovery.
Root access is a combination of S-off and the superuser app within whatever ROM you are running. If you had a stock rooted ROM or a custom ROM loaded onto your phone then you dont need to flash the superuser file as these already include superuser.
If I'm reading your original post correctly, and please correct if I am mistaken, your phone was/is already rooted. The only thing that seems to have changed was the fact that you somehow do not have a recovery. Instead of getting flash happy, try loading the recovery first via shorty's attached copy of Amon Ra. Then try to boot up into Android. Then you'll have three options.
1. The phone boots up and you have Superuser in your app drawer: Enjoy your rooted phone.
2. The phone boots up and you do NOT have Superuser in your app drawer: flash Shorty's attached Superuser file.
3. Phone does not boot into Android: Reflash a rooted stock ROM or a custom ROM of your choice.
I suggest doing it this way because you seemed to screw up your phone by doing what most would call a simple flash. It would be counterproductive to risk your phone's functionality by flashing something you don't absolutely need to flash.
Good morning Xda,
Im in a very bad situation.....I tried installing the new mikg rom and must have not followed all my steps. Now, i cant get my phone to get past the bootloader screen. is there anyone that cam help me?
Please?
You probably missed a step. Confirm it's the right ROM for your phone. Reboot into recovery and make sure to wipe everything that is recommended for that ROM. I generally wipe everything but the sdcard. Then reapply the ROM. Depending on the ROM it takes my phone 5 to 15 minutes to boot the first time.

if you can get to recovery, follow above post, if not, DL Amon Ra from
http://goo-inside.me/amon_ra/supersonic/PC36IMG.zip
put it on the root of the sd card (not in any folders)
pull batt and vol-down & power to get into bootloader, press vol+up twice to accept the "update" then you should be able to get into recovery to do the post above
