[Q] my computer wont connect to my DI wireless tether skyraider 2.5.2 sense - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guy my wireless tethering wont work for my newly installed skyraider 2.5.2 sense. My computer wont connect to my phone. I even have the bin file in the android.tether folder on my sd card. Thank you for any help.

Describe the symptoms. It took several tries for me to get it working, which included rebooting the phone, entering my WPA key twice in Wireless Tether's settings to get it to "stick", and rebooting Windows (Win 7's damn wireless is as flaky as XP's). I kept getting an error that my key was invalid, or "not recognized", or whatever the hell Win 7 tells you.
Once I got it connected once, though, it has worked flawlessly a couple of times since.

My phone won't broadcast the signal. It broadcasted it once but my computer said it couldn't connect to the internet. I just updated to 2.5.2 sense last night. I updated from the leaked ota. The wireless tethering worked with the leaked ota. The leaked ota wasn't froyo it was the update for 720p recording.
Also I never updated my radio when I updated my phone from the 2.1 leaked ota to sky raider 2.5.2 sense. Is the radio needed for anything

Another question. When I went from the ota 2.1 rooted to skyraider 2.5.2. Do I need to to root again?

If you read the Skyraider post it says to rename the WT folder and to download the WT updated apk which He has posted on the post itself.

don't think so. once you root, you are rooted until you un-root it. Just run titanium backup and save everything, flash the rom, download TB and restore all your apps.

Follow the "Tethering out of the Box" section of the Wiki found here: Droid Incredible Wiki and the WiFi Hotspot feature included with SkyRaider will work and Verizon will not charge you a dime extra.

keeping mobile broadband connect

I am working on a my first incredible rom, and I'm running into a problem with mobile broadband connect. it doesn't work. I am working off the stock image from htc using dsixdas kitchen. Even without modifying anything inside, I lose my broadband connect.
My question is, what am I missing that's preventing mobile broadband to work.
PS, mobile broadband connect doesn't work on any other roms I've tried either.
better question is why do you want this to work? after all when your in root you get the free wifi tether.. just saying...
I want it because my company pays for it. I use it in my car because I have an in car pc, and wi-fi tether and pda net are not as reliable as the legit broadband connect.
For example, on the 3 hour trip to my in laws, which I take the same route every time, I usually stream a netflix movie for my wife and kid, and with VZ access manager using broadband connect, I have reliable internet for 90% of the trip, but when using wi-fi tether, or pda net, it's maybe 50% of the trip, they just don't seem to hold the data connection very well.
Also, it's the ethics of it, I am using a service, I will pay for that service. Especially since I use it for business as well, I prefer following the rules.

1. did you have it working with the stock ROM?
2. have you tried creating a dial-up connection using #777 as the number,
your 10 digit phone [email protected] (or @dun.vzw3g.com) as the username, and vzw as the password?
I am not sure if you need to use the @dun.zvw3g.com if you haven't edited the DUN number in EPST
1) Yes, it works fine with the stock rom
2) can't get a dial up connection to work at all, even with the stock rom.

have you ever installed pdanet on the computer you are trying to use?
the reason I ask is because I used it once with my incredible and I was not able to use any other method of connecting, (dial-up or vzaccess manager) I uninstalled it and was still having the problem, it wouldn't even work after manually reinstalling the modem drivers for it, I ultimately had to do a system restore to before I installed the program before I was able to connect using either of the other two methods. I have never used pdanet after that.

I don't think that's the problem. Because If I restore the phone back to the original stock rom, VZ acess manager works fine, even with pda net installed on the computer. There are 2 different profiles in the connection manager, one for pda net modem, and one for verizon dial up modem.
The error I'm getting says the modem is already in use or set up wrong. I've tried unninstalling everything and re-installing on the computer, but I definately think the problem is phone side, not computer side, because as I said, I can restore the stock rom, and everything works fine.

Wireless Tether

Please help! All suggestions are welcome.
After flashing OMJ's 2.2 ROM on the first day of its release (knowing that wireless tether would not work), something has been preventing wireless tether from working in all ROMS.
I have tried everything I know (which is not much)... different combos of radios and wimaxes, several different ROMs (based off both 1.3x and 1.4x), different kernels... nothing can get it working.
I am guessing that there may be data somewhere that did not get wiped through recovery or through doing my nand restore.
Thanks!
There are a couple different updates for the Wireless Tether app floating around. Versions 2.0.5 pre 4, pre 5, and pre 6. I've had success with all of them varying by rom. Can't post the links right now, but some of the rom threads have them posted in the OP. You'll probably have to try each one til you find the one that works. One of them should.
[EDIT] I think there's a pre 7 also.

wireless hotspot for 3g works fine on cm6. it's a 2.2 aosp rom. no sense. don't ask about including sense. won't happen. 4g currently doesn't work, and i'm not sure that a 4g hotspot will, because sprint's implementing a MAC confirmation with 4g hotspot (they really wanna charge you 30 bucks a month for it).
but, 3g hotspot works fine on cm6 2.2. that's my point. that's all there is, don't ask for more.
other roms have 4g functioning, so i'd assume 4g hotspot works on those, if you pay for it.

I know pre7 works on my ROM and most other Froyo ROMs.
Pre7 only works on the HTC stock kernels iirc. If you're using an oc kernel please try the other versions listed of it doesn't work for you

yea the pre 7 works, you can jus google it like i did
sorry that I did not make this clearer in the original post but I have indeed tried all of the different wireless apps (including pre 7) with a variety of ROMs and nothing is working.
The problem I am focusing on is that I originally had wireless tether working on fresh 1.01 (based off 1.47), I created a nand backup, flashed OMJ's 2.2 ROM, then when I restored back to the Fresh ROM my wireless tether was kaput.
None of the combinations of different version of the app, ROM, kernel, radio, and wimax (and I have probably tried 50+ unique combinations over the past week) have provided any working results.
I even went through the entire ROOT process again, and still nothing is working.
EDIT: What I'm trying to emphasize here is that once I flashed a 2.2 ROM wireless tether stopped working on ALL ROMs... even the 1.3x and 1.4x based ROMs
I have the same problem... the program starts just fine but the download data amount gets stuck at . 4 and my laptop can't find the connection at all. Had OJ Rom and now running latest version of fresh... please help!

I understand that for nearly everybody wireless tether IS working. However, given the ludicrous number of combinations I have tried, including everybody's latest and greatest app/ROM/kernel it is safe to say that my problem does not lie in the use of something out of date.
I need NEW suggestions from someone way more experienced than myself.
pretty weird - mine has worked on every rom I've tried.
have you tried CM6?
Also where exactly are you getting stuck?
im having the same problem tried pre 8 now 7 both say activating wifi interface failed, starting access point -failed,
Tether working fine, except I can't watch espn videos for some reason.

try this maybe
Had the issue after running ava v3.
Wipe everything, data cash, dalvik. Dont flash your previous radios or wimaxs, they arent for froyo. Once everything is wiped flash your new rom. Evio 1.1 works great. When you open wifi tether, it should ask you for user permission, if it doesnt somethig is wrong with your su app.
We need more details about your issue. Otherwise all anyone can suggest is wipe everything and flash another rom and try runnig the app. Or like someone else suggested uninstall and reinstall verious versions. But the first time you run wifi tether super user should pop up, if it doesnt this is what is preventing u from running wifi tether.
I'm sorry I did not specify exactly what was happening, but I thought that since this was a well known error for the early adopters of 2.2 people would be familiar with the nature of my problem.
When I put ANY rom on my evo (regardless of whether it's 2.1 based or 2.2) my wireless tether program does not send data. The app itself works fine (gets SU request), creates a network, it just doesn't transmit data because of the authentication Sprint worked into froyo.
My UNIQUE problem, is that this problem persists even when not using those early 2.2 roms. I have tried HUNDREDS of variations of radios/wimax/app editions/ROMs/kernels (including the latest releases) and it does not matter what I do, when I start up wireless tether it stops at .4kb and will not transmit the connection to my computer.
I have gone beyond wiping all of my data (through amon recovery), I even went back tot he 1.3x RUU and went through the whole root process AGAIN and still the problem persists.
There is something on this phone that the data wipes are not removing that is blocking this function, and I do not know how to revert it back. PLEASE HELP.
ive got mine working but its alot slower then even dialup..tried 7 and 8 and same results with both.. Tried on the AC rom and a stock rooted here (using a stock rooted off this forum which the op says works fine for him ...

[Q] Sprint Hotspot Not Working After 2.2 Root

Ever since I rooted with the recent 2.2 Unrevoked method I have had some very strange behavior ever since, despite returning to stock via flashing the stock RUU.
All lag and force closing aside, I've done the following:
1. Leaked .6 update.
2. Recent 2.2 root via Unrevoked method
3. Reverted to stock ROM
4. Reverted to 2.2 root
5. Cleared all caches and factory defaulted via clockworkmod
6. Reverted to stock ROM
7. Updated PRL
8. Updated Profile
No matter what, if I setup Sprint's hotspot (I pay the $30/month), I can connect from my laptop the first time. Then if I power down the laptop, then power off the phone, power on the phone, then power on the laptop (this is my every day routine in that I leave my laptop at work) I have to rebuild the Hotspot every time or my laptop will connect with no internet access. Basically I have to go in and change the SSID and re-do the password then turn the Hotspot on again before the laptop will reconnect. Merely turning the Hotspot off and then back on does not resolve the issue. I have to change and save a setting. Some times it takes me an hour to get everything connected again.
I ran with the pre-leased Froyo update for some time (2-3 weeks) and things were working flawlessly. I *think* I even RUU'd to stock after that before root came out and still no issues. Things were pretty snappy until I rooted 2.2 for the first time.
I don't know that root has anything to do with it. Perhaps it's merely a coincidence.
Any ideas? Should I consider returning my EVO and if I do should I expect a refurb as a replacement?
Why not cancel the $30.00/month fee from Sprint and download the wireless tether app from Google and do the same thing for free? The app works great.
If you want a USB wired solution, try EasyTether from the Market.

[Q] unrevoked 3.3 rooting 3.70 issues help

i just recently tried to root my htc evo running the new 3.70 ota update, and i get a message saying "error: failed to get root.Is your firmware to new?" i initially thoguht it was the fact i had easy tether on my laptop, but i uninstalld it and retried again, and nothing. i hope nothing got messed up, my phones working normal, but idk what happened can anyone help? thanks and sorry in advance
ok i fixed it it turns out some apps on ur phone interfere with the rooting of the device im now rooted using wifi tethering to post this
What apps effect the rooting process?
Unrelated question: I just rooted using Unrevoked on my phone and for some reason when I am at home it says my current location is Chennai, India. I am actually in Dallas, TX though... Any ideas to why it isn't updating correctly?
Hardware Rev: 003
HBoot: 2.1
i actually just uninstalled a couple aps like tikl and tango video calls, easytether and couple more apps just made some free space there and retried and it worked perfect
and for your location double check all your settings are correct like use current location, i just rooted and my location is fine.

I myself have expierenced this same issue , was putting me in England lol how the hell it got that is beyond me . There is also a thread over on www.androidforums.com as well that this issue is being discussed on . I have the new Hboot and most recent update of the stock software then rooted the phone . I flashed Myn's rom and the issue cleared itself . Im going to assume there is something that gets triggered off by the new software . People reporting this issue are either rooted or not rooted . So that by itself should remove unrevoked from the equation . Some in the thread have said to force whatever app you are using for location to refresh itself then unclick sync then restart sync and refresh one more time . Again this fix has worked for some and some it has not .

[Q] WIFI "connects" but no internet access on Oxygen 2.3.2. Help, please!

Running Oxygen 2.3.2 on a rooted and S-OFF HTC Desire (stock HBOOT), which I flashed tonight.
The WIFI appears to connect to my home network but the phone does not actually receive any internet access.
Prior to rooting I was using the WIFI without issues, and nothing has changed in the network since I rooted - my laptop is currently successsfully connected to the internet.
Security is WPA/WPA2, which I changed from WEP ages ago when a buggy tablet wouldn't connect and I was checking it wasn't the encryption that was causing the problem. the phone was connecting to the WPA/WPA2 succesfully. No proxy.
I've searched and haven't found anyone with this exact issue, so I'm not sure how to go about troublshooting.
- I didn't think flashing the Oxygen HBOOT listed on the alphadev site would solve this problem, so I haven't done that yet.

5.09.05.30_2 (stock radio).
Although I haven't checked since I flashed either cyanogen or Oxygen (WIFI wasn't working on cyanogen and I didn't like the ROM a whole lot anyways), but I don't think custom ROMs touch the radio - unless I'm mistaken?
You should definitively upgrade your radio version to the latest one - 5.17.05.23. You can find download link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464 The latest radio is highly recommended when using custom ROM, because they are usually tested with latest radio.

Okay, cheers, will do.
EDIT: Nevermind, after scrolling from 2010 to 2012 posts and across two forums, I found the answer (simplest response is on here for anyone interested -- essentially, the method listed is apparently a very old one, pre-recovery days. Just use recovery to flash the radio like you would with a ROM. No wipe needed, apparently.)
I'm assuming you've done this already?
If so, could you explain step 6 - where do I get the .bat script / modaco r5 root pack... Do I even need it since my phone is rooted and has recovery etc?
(I've read several people saying you "just flash it like you would flash a ROM", so I'm guessing that means loading the radio's .zip file onto my SD card and flashing from recovery like I would with a ROM?)
1. Turn your desire off
2. Hold the back button and turn your desire on
3. When you are at the white screen, make sure BOOTLOADER is selected and press the power button
4. Wait a few seconds then press volume down to select RECOVERY and press the power button again
5. When you are at the screen with the red triangle and the phone, plug in the usb cable
6. Run the recovery-windows.bat script from modaco r5 root pack
7. When the recovery menu appears select 'Flash zip from sdcard'
8. Select the radio zip file and press the trackerball to confirm
9. Press the trackerball over 'Reboot system now'
10. When the radio image has finished being written unplug the usb cable
11. The phone will reboot a couple of times and then return to a normal state with your new radio
Click to collapse
The steps you found are probably outdated. It's really simple. Download latest radio and put it to the root of your SD card. Then you have to reboot to recovery (directly from running ROM or with volume down button pressed when powering up the device). Once you're in recovery, select update from zip (I don't know if you're using Clockworkmod or 4Ext) and choose zip file you downloaded before. Device should reboot and reflash the radio. That's all...
Does upgrading the radio influence the WIFI though?
I've been reading the radio-related post that lists the newest radios and there's a lot of talk about GPS and signal strength improving / worsening with radio changes, but haven't yet found anything relating to WIFI.

Ah crap
Just flashed the latest radio (5.17 etc) as I would with a ROM - yes I did a nand backup using Amon Ra.
Anyways, flashed it - told me it was doing its thing, asked me to restart system to allow it to finish etc, so I did.
It flashed to the HTC boot screen, then returned to Amon Ra recovery
Its now been about 5-10minutes and there's a msg saying:
Build: RA-desire-v2.0.1
Formatting CACHE:...
And that's it. Hasn't moved a bit since that screen and msg came back.
What can I do now? I can navigate the Amon Ra recovery menu, but I'm scared to reboot the system in case I brick my phone.... help please!

So I accidentally solved the problem when I accidentally hit hte trackball and confirmed the "reboot system now" option from the main menu.
Radio is upgraded successfully by the looks of it.
Unfortunately though, WIFI still doesn't work
You've gone through all the trouble of changing your radio. Did you ever bother to try other roms first?
You say that nothing has changed with your wifi connection but you are using a secured connection. Did you even tried a connection with your wifi unsecured and try to establish a connection with the phone?

If you're going to just get narky, then I'm not sure why you're posting, tbh.
Yes, I had used cyanogen 7 prior to oxygen and had the same problem.
And I only flashed oxygen on Monday night, so I don't have the luxury of running around finding unsecured wifi during my work days.
Having said that, a neighbour leaves unsecure wifi on late at night, and I can pick it up and managed to briefly connect to the net before the signal strength died., so yes I'm assuming I can connect to at least one unsecured network.
Which I guess means something's been changed in the scripts running in custom roms vs stock, which isn't helpful.
Well, could you confirm you have the latest radio now? I mean was the upgrade successful? Did you try to do nandroid backup, wipe device and test from scratch with fresh install?

I'm just suggesting things that ya'll may have overlooked. I've used CM and Oxygen and never had any issues with wifi may it be what type of security being implemented.
Well after playing around with my router's settings for ages, I finally made it work by changing the mode from "b/g/n mixed" to "b/g mixed". I was able to keep my WPA2 security on.
- Yep, radio was succesfully upgraded, even though it didn't appear to be.
I guess these custom ROMs do something to the WIFI component of the Desire because I was able to connect to the network with the b/g/n mixed mode in use before I flashed the custom ROMs.
This is annoying because it means I'll likely not be able to use any public WIFI hotspots that are set as b/g/n mixed...
Just to illustrate how tricky this can be. I had the same symptoms on my HTC Desire: Wifi connected OK to a b/g/n router but would not transfer any data through browsers, email, PlayStore, anything really.
Initially running Miui 2.4.9 and Wifi was OK.
Upgraded to Miui 2.4.13 but the ugrade did not complete successfully. The phone worked except that Wifi connected but didn't work.
Restored the phone with an earlier backup of MildWild CM-8.0 ROM which used to have working Wifi. Wifi still no good.
Flashed latest Radio 5.17.05.23. Wifi still no good.
Flashed earlier Radio 5.09.05.30. Wifi still no good.
Flashed full GB Miui 2.4.13 ROM. Wifi still no good.
Re-flashed latest Radio 5.17.05.23. Wifi works!!!! WTF?
