hi guys,
I really need your help. My rom was freezing all the time, so I re-flashed it via recovery. Everything was smooth again, but I wanted to restore my data (as I didn't want to start over with my games). I had made a backup via recovery, so I selected the option 'restore data' in recovery and it got to work. When it was finished, i got an error saying something about a file being a read only file. So I wanted to go back to the main menu, but I couldn't. I had to take the battery out and try to reboot. I got the white screen with the green HTC, so I thought everything was okay. But it didn't boot any further than that. It just stayed there. So I took the battery out and rebooted into recovery again. This time I got a list of errors saying something like 'E:can't mount cache/....'. I googled the issue and found a fix for the problem, which would be to install the update via bootloader. I downgraded and rooted my phone using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905261. The method uses an update which is 1.34, so I decided to try it. The update didn't work, and I'm stuck on the update screen. It says Fail-PU on the first 8 lines, [9]TP - OK, [10]TP- Bypasses, and than at [11]Radio_V2, it says '-Updating' and it just stays there. I've left it all night last night and it was still stuck there. I've tried taking out the battery, as I can't do anything and try the update again, but it didn't work.... Can someone please help me?
i dont know bout this too much but i would take out memory card...format it and put new update. while mem card is out go bootloader and factory reset. then put mem card back in and update.
I'm afraid you might have a hardware issue. It could be one of two things, either the emmc has gone bad. Or the partition table has been messed up. The second thing is fixable the first is not. I suggest heading over to the g2root irc channel so they can diagnose the problem and suggest a solution is one is available.

yeah turns out it''s the harware issue where the emmc chip goes bad or something... I''m going to send it back to HTC, because all the people i''ve read about on other threads got theirs replaced despite it being S-off and having CMW on it. I just hope HTC holland is that cool too...

Hello!
I'm using a HTC Desire with a the "Pre-rooted Stock Froyo" ROM by teppic74.
Today I've received an OTA update notification from HTC, which I haven't accepted yet because it would probably break my ROM (by the way, it seems like teppic didn't disable the OTA update notifications in this ROM).
The size of the update is 6.34 MB.
Has anyone else received the OTA update? Anyone knows what's updated?
EDIT: As I've read somewhere, it increases the software version number to 2.29.405.14 from 2.29.405.05

Yes... increases... version number used to end in 05, with the update it would end in 14.
I don't know what changes in functionality this update is supposed to bring.
Hey i just received the system update actually its called "system enhancement 6.34 MB"
And i ofc clicked on yes, phone restards and then when the "package icon" aka the lets say progress bar starts it just stops and a "!" along with an android maskot appears... cant update, my phone is rooted tho...so, any suggestions or news to this update in general i would appreciate!
ps.i hope you get what i wanted to say
I've been seeing this in other forum when I googled it and looks like no one doesn't have any idea about what the update contains.. yet.
It's nice to see the good old Froyo still getting "enhancements".
Old? Sure. Good? Not by a long shot.
I only had Froyo for a couple of weeks before I rooted and flashed Gingerbread and never used Eclair sooo I'll take your word for it. Haha
If your using a custom RoM, you should never apply OTA updates.
@DroidZone: maybe citing the message just before yours isn't necessary? Just asking.
@shankly1985: you're not helping us who are dealing with this problem as I can pretty much certify we all know that: just read the original post and other comments.
I registered here to ask about this and maybe have an answer. The thing is I am NOT using a custom ROM. I am using the original HTC ROM that came with my Desire 14 months ago. BUT I have rooted the phone in anticipation of installing MIUI – I was desperately looking for a two-way recording of phone calls that never made it into MIUI. So I've installed ClockWorkMod as well as ROM Manager. I too have experienced exactly what @Drizzline describes. System update notification, phone restarting, exclamation icon that seems to be from ClockWorkMod and not from the OS.
My question is: how can I apply the system update, knowing that I have never installed a custom ROM on my device nor made any changes to the factory-installed – and subsequently updated – vendor-provided ROM?

And if you're using a stock ROM, you shouldn't either.
I stupidly updated my Desire and
calendar stopped working properly (events disappeared; luckily, I can see from Google Calendar's web interface that they're all still there)
every now and then an error message appears:
Error: com.htc.bgp has stopped unexpectedly

None of the methods I found around Googling (clearing cache, factory reset) could fix this issue. Now I'm really pissed off and I don't know what to do, except waiting for another update from HTC.
"System enhancements"? Hah
@vodoomoth, Stop telling people what to do and what not to.. Who do you think you are, barging into a forum and being a pompous ass with your first post?
If telling that I think repeating a the whole post above might not be necessary when I reply with one line is telling people what to do and what not to do, then yes, I am a pompous ass. No, actually, I am a stupid arrogant pompous ass. But I didn't write the Netiquette, I just read it and it's pretty standard in forums. Sorry to be the one to remind you that there is no need to cite an entire message and reply with just one single word and a question mark!
I doubt you were talking about me telling shankly1985 that his "do not apply OTA updates on custom ROMs" was not helping. Oh yes, I am not the person who hasn't read the opening post where that concern is pretty obvious.
However, I don't see how my post is summed up as "barging into" a forum. I didn't know some behaviors were not allowed in first posts but only in later posts. Sorry for that again. I guess I should have not written a first post.
To other people, sorry for the off-topic.

Why don't you root and flash a custom ROM?
Won't do it until my warranty expires.

it doesn't make a difference, all you need to do to restore warranty is use a RUU....

You can flash an RUU of 2.29.405 and return it back to the state it was before you updated. You can do this now to fix your issue, if you dont want to go the rooted way.

It actually does: imagine if my screen doesn't light up anymore. Then I would send my phone to repair. But I wouldn't be able to restore any RUU, since I wouldn't see anything and I couldn't be sure my phone was restored successfully or not.
Anyway, please, let's stay in topic... OTA update and its problems.

If you screen died, all you'd have to do is boot fastboot, and watch the RUU process and your pc screen, so you stand corrected as you would know if it's restored.
And I don't really see what all the hype is about.. I bet it doesn't even do anything.

The Calendar problem fixed by itself. com.htc.bgp keeps crashing every time the Meteo service tries to sync.

So, I was just told that I was -actually- posting my error that I was getting from my Captivate Glide in the wrong area, I was actually posting it in the Captivate area... so... I'm just gonna quote myself here:
Hazarath said:
Ok, so, first off, yes, as I keep being told by the forums I read, I am a noob. I understand, and respect that. That's not the issue.
So, I have followed the guide that's found here, and I have the Clockwork mod installed, as when I turn on my phone, and press down, it says I have it.
I -had- my phone rooted in the past, and then -finally- the official 4.0.4 update came out. I upgraded from my old rooted image to the new image, and figured I'd wait to see if someone would post instructions on how to update this version, unless I am doing something wrong.
I am sure that I am, or I missed something somewhere. Again, I have -no- idea what I am talking about. I don't claim I do.
So... I try to install Superuser-3.2-RC2 -and- RC3-ARM-signed.zip, as I was advised that may work via pressing power+down, I get this:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed!
I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I copied the file over to the root of the SD card, and all that jazz.
So, is someone ready to point out the error in my method, or more likely, tell me I am an idiot?

The only solutions offered on that forum was to try SuperOneclick, and I simply get a pop-up after clicking 'Root', a dialog letting me know I have missing drivers. It asks to allow me to install them, and it just goes 'No data Found'. ..amusing error if I ever saw one! Oh, it's better... it repeats the same thing, and I get no further. The application just locks up, all done.
So, as stated as I quote myself... am I an idiot, or is something borked?

Try to flash ur phone with proper cwm image file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2007198
Else, try to install some different ROM, stock is boring
The file signature error generally means a bad download. Try redownloading it. If you don't mind potentially hosing your installed ROM and having to reflash, you could try disabling the signature check.
You did install CWM first, right? IIRC the official ICS update clobbers recovery so you have to reinstall it.
Just a thought, why not flash straight to CM10.1? It comes already rooted.

I followed those steps; it seems that, looking upon my working directory, I already used the recover image provided in the link. So, I already have this tool installed. So, that's that. >.>
I am not against installing a custom ROM, as long as someone here can actually attest to it working! I am a stickler when it comes to operating systems. I don't just go, 'Hey, that looks cool!' *install...* '..wait... it does THAT? Screw that!' *restores stock*

If the file I had was damaged, it likely would not have took the first time I flashed the file when I had a different version of 'droid on it. So, that's likely not it.
Any other ideas?

Hi, today my GN decided to stop working normal. Application started to crash randomly, if I try to connect to the internet it just reboots, and it reboots randomly too. If I try to perform a factory reset it just doesn't do anything, even using the recovery mode (latest cwm). If I delete or copy files on the device, when I go check if they are there, the delete files are still there and the new ones aren't anywhere. So, I tried everything but I didn't have any results. Do anyone know what could I do? How do I perform a hard reset? I'm a little bit desperate. And a little bit angry eheh
Sounds like your memory is toast . its probably hardware failure , not a whole lot you can do to fix it

I'm sorry, hack the what? What do you mean?
So something inside is actually broken? It started acting like this yesterday morning without any motivation. Maybe it was after getting very hot for a long time..

Hack the tuna is my tapatalk signature lol , if your emmc is going bad there isn't any way to fix it besides replace it .
Ahah ok, I imagined it wasn't referred to my situation
Anyway, another problem I found is that error I get when I try to install (sideload or directly from the internal memory) a rom using the recovery: "symlink: some symonds failed Error in data/... rom.zip (status 7) installation aborted"
Got a new z1c. Had a stupid problem and then figured it out after long trial and error but can't delete this post.
BLECH.
