How to get super bright TORCH light (root possibly required)? - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had flashed TeamFenix's v1.8 FroYo ROM, and I checked out this Torch app. I noticed that it had this setting for super brightness which was amazing. I'm too addicted to htc sense, so I went back to slidemeroot5v1.
I tried pulling the .apk out and installing it from astro on but it wouldn't allow me to install it. Do I have to install from adb or somehow grab the .apk from somewhere?
If the app isn't meant to work with 2.1, are there any other root-required torch-like apps that allow super brightness?
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App

I'd like to say that no it does not require 2.2... I'm not expert but the Samsung Moment uses it's camera flash in the same way via MomentFlash.apk;
Perhaps we could come up with something; did you try to adb install or adb push torch while in recovery?
I'm looking for a good rooted Sense UI rom w/ Netfilters in the kernel.. I saw the one you're talking about; have you tested several and prefer that one? I'll see what I can do with Torch for you since I'm heading back to Sense anyway...
CM6 is cool and all but HTC makes some of the best framework of all time...

sadly, your answer is no. The brighter led won't work on 2.1 sense, 2.1, or whatever else. Only on 2.2... It sucks, I know. I tried the same thing a few days ago.

Pushed file to system/app and it didn't show up at all after reboot;
tried to push/intsall to /data/app; same story..
Push works, file missing in the end...
Install fails for error on /system/app/sh; no such file or directory...
SH seems pretty important... I am used to the Samsung Moments structure/functions though which should be quite similar but also quite different; i'll keep giving this a shot till I see it install THEN fail...
Till then; was anyone able to get this damn thing to install? Or is that where we're stuck? I feel we sohuld be able to get it to install since we're not recieving Parse errors..

Dude.... you're wasteing your time. Check out lamppu or any other led app on the market. They all have the super bright option like torch and they install fine. But when you try and turn on the super bright option... it fails to become brighter or the led turns off. Now if you could pull certain aspects of the 2.2 framework and somehow blend them with 2.1, maybe you could get it to work. I'm not trying to discourage you but it just won't work without 2.2 or a heavily moddified 2.1 rom.

Thanks for being a **** about it too;
My interest was in the fact that other devices have it working on 2.1
OP check LED Desire, my results are that it is brighter than Lamppu.

Yup, I looked around and found FlashApp, it has this mode called Flash with the brightest output I've seen though its only for a half-second. The other one is LED Desire like rubbachicken said, it's super bright (though a little less bright than "Flash" in FlashApp) but it has a widget and allows it stay on at super brightness.
Thanks anyways guys

everyone keeps saying this but i dont get it...i mean the reason ppl use LEDs instead of incandescent bulbs nowadays is because they produce brighter light and last virtually forever. i have a maglight flashlight with an LED upgrade that has 3 LEDs in it and i use it ALL THE TIME and it's never failed me and i never have to change the LEDs, they never get dim or go out, so what is so different about this LED that everyones babying it so much?

Hahaha! I agree there man... I guess its because this is the most expensive flash light you'll ever use!
Okay guys.. I guess was wrong about the super bright led. Obvious there is an app that produces a 2.2 torch app-like brightness but it only lasts a moment. Just leave that one installed and I bet the author will allow it to stay on at super brightness after an update.
Oh, there is another app like other flash super bright one called incredilight. I'd keep my eye on both of those apps. My guess is those apps that can get torch like brightness is because they are emulating the phone taking a picture in low light. Thats how they work and why they can do so for only a second. Maybe one of those authors can use that line of code to tell the phone to keep the flash on but I doubt it. I hope I am wrong! Just another reason why tmobile needs to hurry and push out that 2.2 update...

I don't know how bright its supposed to get, I haven't tried the 2.2 one to compare but LED Desire Light works just fine for me, it has four different brightness settings and the brightest is pretty dang bright... and you can make morse code with it just by typing and it'll flash what you type! Lol.

yeah.. it is cool. I've been flashing "give me head" in morse code at my wife but it doesn't seem to work

use desire Light or something it uses the back light as a light and has dim to brightest setting

For using the backlight I just open browser and hit stop.. lmfao
Since we got a flash on the mt3gs i suggest usin' it...
Should be titled "Dog [email protected]*( finder" with how I use it lmfao

[SOLVED] Flashing Service LED

Well I have searched and searched and can not seem to figure out how to disable the service led without disabling all the functions of ALLledmgr. Of course that works but that means vibration and a number of other things. Someone had mentioned the nled reg entry hack tried that no luck. I have looked through countless dlls and files for any reference that might come close to disabling the service led but I just cant seem to find it. So many other phones(cheap phones) let you disable it why cant this one?
I remember back to a simple hex edit on my motorola that could do many things we even had script files that could change the leds colors etc and do crazy things on boot etc(that was linux of course).
So any of you pros out there came across anything that might be related to the service led?
i love the service LED's if it werent for them i wouldnt like my TyTN as much .. they really mean that much to me
sadly we're not in the good ole' motorola days (that was bliss) but i have the perfect soloution! :
Get a black permanent marker, and colour in the Service LED
et voila!! it no longer flashes and you still have vibrate, sounds etc ...
LOL
That´s was a really tip problem solution !!
Service LED does not bother me at all.
Or gently mash it with a sharp knife or screwdriver. (same solution for that silly light/speaker on cars that warn you to put a seatbelt on)
Maybe I wasnt clear about what I wanted. When I meant service led I meant that it just constantly flashes green to tell you that you have a signal. I want my leds to work, but the way I want them to. I want them to flash when I have a missed call or unread message etc. I just do not want it to constantly flash green in a service area Im always in a service area.
Many of you laugh of course and say it doesnt bother you etc. But I bet that when it is figured out where and how it is access and then being able to customize it change its colors etc, those who laugh will also be among the people using those nifty custom leds(blue for bluetooth, green for message, orange for missed call etc. So try and support the idea instead of laughing at it.
For me seeing that green flash over and over is just a constant reminder of something I can not customize on my super customized phone.

Please do post the 3.1 verison and thanks
The first one you posted seems to e 3.0 the second 2.1, ill try it to see whats the difference but 3.0 works fine even when charging except it gives you a flashing orange led instead of constant on led, letting it charge to full and see what happens. Yes please post any versions you have so I can try to see the different modifications they are doing between them.
I can see that it is simply using a mort script to scan the notification que for changes and using the treo exe to make modifications. Im in the process of decompiling the treo exe to see what mods can be made.
My concern here(which may be a retarded one so small) that you have a fight going on with the phone constantly telling it to do one thing and the mortscript and treo exe telling it to do something else. I can see that mortscript is using about 3%cpu cycle every 5 seconds or so. Not sure if that is going to impact battery usage or not, but my end goal would be do away with the fighting and just having the os do what its supposed to do.

No I have not done anything at all since it is already functional, what I am currently looking into is the other three leds that we have and what can done with them. Im also trying to figure out more info on our leds, if they are only tri color, etc and if its possible to get our two green and red phone leds blinking as a notification as well, but I am pretty sure those two leds are controlled together as on or off and probably cannot be controlled individually, time will tell.

Did this work on HTC Artemis (o2 Orbit) too?
Thank you!
Just a quick note of thanks to CodyPPC for the link!
That damned service light has been annoying me for months - I've taken to putting the phone in a draw / turning it upside down to stop the flashing annoying me when trying to get to sleep in an otherwise totally dark room!
This was the 1st site to come up on a google search - and am really impressed - cheers!
I'll send thanks to the devs on the other forum as well.
It looks like you're looking to enhance/fiddle with this further - controlling the LED's in various ways - - have you made any progress? are you in a position to share any code (compiled/source) or tips? I just want to dabble - have no real goal in mind - -- - the main thing is no more flashing green!!! woo!

LCD Calibration (Nova color fix)

Not sure if this is common knowledge, but Storm over on the Nexus board built a color calibrator program that does a great job fixing color balance problems (I'm looking at you Nova LCD).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745248
I am successfully using the cyanogen nightly apk version to correct the blue/purple hue on my nova. It took a little messing around and I do not have a color meter, but I ended up getting results that look great (used my macbook LCD which is color calibrated as the target).
Every LCD is different, but my settings are 919 red/ 905 green / 722 blue.

If you have CM6, it's already installed... Just go to Settings -> Cyogenmod Settings -> Display -> Render UI, and choose one of the last 3.
Otherwise, flash the Universal APK from that thread-- it worked for my on BakedSnack and Fresh. Don't forget in any case to install the Calibrator APK... it allows you to manually tweak the settings, and also ensures that any settings you choose will be re-applied at bootup.
Well as I don't have cm6, it seems the sense version might be incompatible. I flashed the version sense (desire) and installed the apk. Upon changing any of the sliders results in a fc.
For now I think this calibration is limited to cm6; unless I just screwed something up and somebody else can get it to work. I'm going to try and use the universal install next and see if that'll get it to work. If it doesn't then us sense users are sol.

I had thought i had said if you don't have CM6, then try flashing the Universal version, not the Sense one-- the sense one seems limited to a specific ROM for the Desire. I had no issues flashing the Universal one on BakedSnack and Fresh, which both still have Sense.
Apk
One thing to note for CM6 users - the apk file allows you to tweak the 3 color bands to any setting you want, rather than just the 3 presets provided in the Cyanogen render effect menu. I was getting too much yellow in all of the N1 presets and was able to get good whites with the sliders.
I'm not sure how to run this on sense. Why would anyone want to use sense? I'm in a fast 4g area and I still cant stand it.
for stock with root ota 2.2 version .28 odex, use universal zip.

If you stick with 1000s for all 3 values, you might as well as not have the APK installed at all, IMO.
The settings you want to use may vary slightly based on your current lighting conditions and the brightness. On my settings, the screen is tiny, tiny bit dimmer-- but that is only because the blacks and greys become true blacks and greys and not dark purple and lilac. At the bare minimu, leave your red and green at 1000 and push the blue down until your greys are true greys....

[Q] Trackpad Pulse Frequency

Just wondering, but is there any way to increase the pulsing speed of the trackpad LED?
A lot of people have suggested LedMe Know but it doesn't have support for Google Voice (which I use for sms) and it flashes the trackpad, rather than pulses.
I've also tried Light Flow and although it pulses the trackpad and supports Voice, it doesn't change the speed of the pulse
Any suggestions?
Have you tried playing with the custom timing settings in Led me know?
If gvoice isn't supported, then perhaps it wont work....sry if it doesn't.
Well, like I said up top, it only flashes the led, instead of the pulses, regardless of any speed settings.
Plus no Google Voice in LedMe Know. Light Flow does support it (so its definately possible ), but it does not alter the pulse frequency so it doesn't add anything that stock didn't already do.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 via telegram
Maybe you could contact the app developers and get them to add the feature(s)?
Some can be surprisingly responsive.
Good suggestion...but not quite the solution I'm looking for since LedMe flashes rather than pulses and I'd prefer if I didn't have to keep an app in memory just to change the frequency of a stock feature :/
Maybe there's a way to modify the lights.vision.so or something?
EDIT: I doubt the developer would try his hand at pulsing rather than flashing since it seems I'm just a minority who prefers the trackpad led rather than the speaker led. Also this seems like a device specific feature and the dev says in the app description: "only available at the moment for htc desire 2.2" so I doubt he has a DZ to test on... I found
EDIT2: I found exactly what I was looking for (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5609688&postcount=25) but sadly its only for Nexus One. I'm messaging the developer to see if maybe he'd port it over...
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 via telegram
Yeah I dont know much about editing those files, but some app devs are helpful. It might actually just be a quick edit for them to gain compatibility with GVoice.
I only use LED me know to flash my trackpad light really fast, upon arrival of sms' through tmobile carrier/handcent tho.
I hope you figure something out. I would like like it to pulse fast rather then just blink.

Switch to an MIUI rom. It has the feature built in.
I appreciate pulsing the trackpad LED as well. However it's too slow a pulse at default speed, to be able to quickly peek at your phone and be able to tell if you have a message or not.
xREVOx: What exactly is this feature called? I want to look around and see if it will be included in the net CyanogenMod version.

I'm not using the MIUI rom right now, but it was called either Pulse Frequency or Pulse Delay. Default is 9 seconds. You can change it to as little as a 1 second delay.
I might have to flash it just to check it out and see how it works.
Currently I have LED me know flash my trackpad at 100 milisec. on and 100 milisec. off. Flashes fast and I notice it right away when checking for messages.
I just rather have the pulsing close to that speed.
Well I guess its nice to know that there's an actual solution... I wonder how hard it is to extract from miui rom?
I was looking around for the source of miui, but apparently its not released by their dev team...?

You could try just flashing the exact file that controls it to your phone, from the MIUI rom... not sure exactly what it is though.

I believe its in Settings? I saw a video of MIUI running on a G2 and Trackpad Settings was in the Settings menu...not sure if it contains the pulse frequency but meh. If it is, I don't think it'll be too smart to flash it but idk.

[Q] About LED notifications

Hi everybody
After a while searching, flashing and messing things up, i realized that the DHD's led is only at mid-quality level. It's even worse than my previous phone - the old G1 - because the led can only handle green, orange and red. And with some custom roms, it's hard to control your led notifications, it goes up and down every time, behaves abnormally, usually does NOT flash at all and force you light up the screen only for ensuring that you don't miss any important information etc...
So it's annoying and disappointing too.
Is there an application that can change this situation? Not be able to force the Led flashing in blue of course LOL, but it can handle the constant flashing at least? I heard about an app called "led me know" over the Desire forum, but don't know if it supports our device? And it would be perfect if there's one which can make the touch keys back-light flash as the led. Would be very amazing if existed ^^
Thanks in advance
Any one? Any ideas?
Still no one has some interest on this?

But if there's something like touch keys backlight notification... It would be definitely awesome!!!! Like the one in samsung galaxy forum...

I can't follow you. Did you mean you set up the G1 with blue and magenta colour, or that's what you suggested me to do so on our DHD?
And for the alternative apps question, any one has an idea please????
Thanks,
Hey guys,
is there any news on this LED thing?
I also would like if the LED would not stop blinking after a while and it looks like "LED me know" won't work on the DHD with V. 2.3.5 & Sense 3.0.
Maybe the DHD need to be rooted for that?

LED color/blink interval and SMS

I know it's been touched on here and there (I.E.), but I haven't found a dedicated thread to it, and I know I'm definitely not the only one who is plagued by the annoyance. It seems like some have been able to get around the issue with the international version of the phone, but the North American version appears to be quite the hurdle. Either that, or the devs for all our favorite SMS apps aren't from the good ol' US of A, and don't really care about that feature. Either way, It's annoying to have cutting-edge technology in the palm of my hand without any reliable and simple means to have something other than a solid red LED regardless of the notification it represents. On the thread linked above, I noted that some were able to get a blinking notification, I've had no such luck. Perhaps they weren't rooted. I do recall the day I got my phone, before anything had been modified whatsoever, that the LED would flash blue, but once I got GoSMS Pro installed, it changed my SMS to solid red, and has been such ever since. Nothing at all that I have tried will change it.
TLDR: Has anyone found a way to stay on a custom ROM and/or launcher, AND set different color LED for notifications (as well as blink intervals) within the realm of SMS?

I know it's been touched on here and there (I.E.), but I haven't found a dedicated thread to it, and I know I'm definitely not the only one who is plagued by the annoyance. I thought about doing CM9, but last I read it doesn't look to be a finished product? I kept up with the thread on it for a bit after its release, and it seemed there were still bugs.

Awesome, I will flash it tonight, and play around with it.
Still curious if anyone has found a workaround on any TW-based ROMs :good:
Lightflow seems to be actively trying to work on the problem.
