[Q] Droid Radio Update Issues - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey All,
I have literally spent the past 6+ hours trying to update my radio to version 2.x on my Droid Incredible, and it isn't working. No matter what method I try, which image, or which ROM, nothing works.
What I am Currently Running:
Sky Raider 2.5.2 Vanilla
I am s-off
I ran the latest unrEVOked3 to gain root access
I downloaded the latest usb drivers
What is happening:
When I download PB31IMG.zip, I place it into my newly re-formatted FAT32 sdcard in the root directory. After that, I launch it into hboot, and try to have it run the update. Unfortunately, no matter what I do, it cannot find the image.
I have also tried the normal version of de-upgrading, but I get stuck on this step and cannot proceed any further.
Any help would be appreciated!
Zack

This should be in General.

There is no directory called root on the sdcard. What it means is to just put it on ur sdcard, do not put it in any folders. Just /sdcard/
Like the other post said, this should be in general

Try making sure radio is named radio.img make sure amdroid-info.txt is ok, and make sure it is named PB31IMG.zip not pb31img.zip or .zip.zip
Or tcberg could be right, and you may be putting the file in a non-existing directory.

How will I know if amdroid-info.txt is "ok"?
I made sure it's named properly - my bad on that, and the directory. Saying root just meant the main directory on the sdcard, not in any folders.

I would either: download the file again, or take an android-info.txt from a splash screen zip

Do you know where I could find the latter of those two options?

The android info txt???? Its in all the solash screens..just go into tje themes subforum and there are like 5 threads on them....all you have to do is just rip the txt file out of there and place it in the radio zip

I apologize for my ignorance, this is the first android root I've done. But how would I go about doing that?

1. Download a splash screen zip from the themes forum
2. Find the android-info.txt
3. Copy it to your desktop and paste it into the PB31IMG.zip file

you have to press power volume down and the dedicated camera button at once to gain access to the root of your sdcard

I would be willing to bet that PB31IMG.zip is actually PB31IMG.zip.zip on your sd. The file in windows should just read PB31IMG and nothing more.

lmao......

There is a known issue of the pmg file getting corrupted when downloading to your computer and transferring to your phone.trying downloading the file directly to your phone.

The problem is most likely that your sd card isn't formatted to fat 32. Backup the radio image format your card to fat 32 instead of fat put the image on the root of your sd and try again.
Make sure that the file isn't corrupted and that you are in fact s off. Download it again to be sure and re format as well. Either your card is formatted wrong or your image is corrupted.
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk

You can also try messing with the format cluster size. Try default allocation size first, if that doesn't work tinker with the sizes.
Make sure you have the correct radio update file and do not change the file name at all. Here is a link to the correct one, download it and try again.

my phone doesnt have no rom. i have my telus 2.1 rom saved up on desktop. how do i put it on my phone . cuz my phone when i turn on it only shows hc logo. doesnt do anything else . please help me guys im soo frustrated. havnt slept yet trying to figure it out
anyone? please help
If you put your phone into fastboot mode, connect your phone to your computer via USB and run the file you have downloaded.
It should flash the rom onto your desire.

Is it an .exe file or a .zip file?
If it is an exe try running it from your computer.
If it is a zip file you *might* need to rename it to PBxxxxx.zip ( the actual name flashes up when you enter hboot) and put it on your SD card. When you enter hboot it should flash it.
I am not 100% sure about the zip method so you should wait until someone else confirms.
Someone has replied in one of your other threads saying he had the same problem? Maybe he can help?

it doesnt open up my memory card so i can put it there
Anyone knows?
dont you have a memory card reader or something?
can you boot into recovery? if you can you can mount your sdcard there so it can be read from your pc.
btw if your telus rom file is a .zip, then make sure it is renamed to PB99IMG.zip before you put it onto your memory card. when you reboot into fastboot mode, the zip file should run automatically.

hello . i do have memory card reader just bought it . when i choose recovery the screen goes black and nothing happens.
i just tried the -volume+power it didnt work i did change the file name. then i press recovery again still doesnt work
If you have PB99IMG.zip on your SD card you shouldn't even need to go to recovery.
Start in fastboot mode (power and back) then select bootloader.
It should check your SD card for the file and flash it.

so go to fasboot mode which is - + power? then select bootloader it looks for files but it goes quick . it says something about *no image wrong . cant see it it goes fast
You haven't mentioned it here but you have another thread about a failed root.
If that is the case then you need an official RUU (The .Exe files to update the phone) which can be found at shipped-roms.com and try to flash back to standard using a PC. None of the rooted/custom ROMS will work so a zip file os probably out of the question.
If this doesn't work then you're stuck I'm afraid, you may be able to pass it off and get a repair or replacement as a dead phone.

HBOOT not upgrading to .92

Hi all,
I am trying to upgrade my HBOOT from .77 to .92 (required for hibernation)
When I enter hboot, it tries to load the PB31IMG.zip file and comes back with errors:
"no image"
"no image"
"no image"
"no image or wrong image"
I downloaded the file from SkyRider thread and also from Adrenalyne's site. same result.
I have CWM 2.5.0.5 + unrevoked forever for S-OFF (my hboot page displays S-OFF)
what am I doing wrong?
thanks
Try manually flashing the zip by going into clockwork and selecting the zip yourself.

yes. I installed new kernels and (today) unrevoked forever with no trouble.
I notice that the name of the file in the .zip is "hboot_8x50_0.92.0000_100723.nb0"
other PB31IMG.zip files (i.e. radio) contain one or more .img files.
Also make sure it is on the root of your sd card and not in any folder

I tried a couple of times myself and i finally gave up. You have to change the name of the file to that pmg file name. I'm on my phone so I don't know the exact spelling. And I know I will get flamed for this comment, but instead of writing "don't post things that are wrong" how about telling what will work.

And I think what ever you used to download changed the extension to .nb0. Change that to .zip

the file that I downloaded is correctly named PB31IMG.zip
I was wondering if the file INSIDE the zip needs to have a .img extension instead of .nb0
Before you do it make sure you have .72 on your computer.and if it fails go into recovery. Go into I think it of advanced. Mount sd. So you can see your sd card to put .72 back on...just incase it fails like mine did.

is there any repository with all the HBOOT releases? I might try a sequential update from .77 to .79 to .92

I also have the .76 and the md5's but haven't uploaded it yet and are on my home pc. I can post the md5's later.
I don't think you need/want the .76
Don't unzip these and just rname to flash. Also if you on a mac please turn off the option in safari that auto opens zips on download.

.77 and .79 are multi-volume archives and are missing some data.
.92 looks complete (it's the same file in GMK83 link) but I get the same error.
here is the error (it appears for 1/2 second on the screen then disappears):

What the hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How come my bootloader wont see the pc36img.zip and give me the chance to update? I want to install a custom splash screen. BTW, all of the three evos I have in the family have this issue. My hboot is 0.93.0000 PLEASE HELP
Is it looking for it? If it's looking for it and doesn't find it then you either don't have it on the root of your sd or you named it improperly. Check to make sure it's named pc36img.zip and NOT pc36img.zip.zip which is a common mistake. If it's all 3 having the same problem I'm betting the name is wrong.
The name is fine. I see it in recovery and it says pc36img.zip When I boot to hboot it it does a scan, bout one second and nothing. All I see is fastboot, recovery, etc.. It has always done this. I dont understand. Why me?
I dunno man, the fact that you have three evos all doing the same thing makes it really seem like user error. Have you tried other pc36img.zip files?
After all this time I figured out what I was doing wrong. When you open the sd card on the pc and see a zip folder, that file is already a .zip . So if it is named pc36img.zip it is actually pc36img.zip.zip . I did not realize this. When naming a zip folder, you don't want .zip at the end of the name, It's automatically added. I know you probably know that but I'm sure there is someone who doesn't.
That is exactly what I was referring to. Glad you got it figured out.
Lol

Hi Guys,
Please help me.
I followed the steps in this site to install cyanogenmod 7.
(Xda won't let me post the site)
However, I am stuck in the last part. I did the back up and etc.
I am now in the reboot stage of Clockwork recovery.
However, when i selected install zip from sdcard ---> choose zip from sd card
the file cannot be found..
It says no files found.
Plz Help Thank you
Mike
Did you place the zip file on the root of your sd card & not inside a folder?

It don't matter if its in a folder it not.. I always download straight from my phone and leave it in downloads folder.. also can be renamed after the date of a nandroid but make sure to add .stock or .rc4 or whatever.. no spaces and keep the dates, don't know about renaming the whole thing yet.. anyways, your problem seems odd

Installing a boot animation

I am trying to change my boot animation on cm7 and have tried to change it to a pc36img file and it says parsing file. I also have tried to move it into the systems media folder using rootexplorer but I get a message stating its a read only file. I tried changing the permissions and still nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Im sure Im missing something here.
On root explorer, press on the top right where it says "mount" before you paste, it'll let you paste it.
Then just set permissions.

You have to make sure that you moved the file to the correct place, that the permissions match the original's, and that the boot animation was built properly. Try another and see if you get the same result. If you do, you're doing something wrong. If it works, there's something wrong with the boot animation you're trying to use.
You said it was a PC36IMG, so I'm thinking that it's the file. Usually boot animations are either moved manually or made into a flashable zip - splashscreens come as PC36IMGs. If you can attach the file, I'll take a look at it for you.
Sent from my Evo + MIUI using Tapatalk!
If you're manually placing it in the /system/media/ folder, which is what I recommend doing, then the file needs to be named bootanimation.zip and contain ONLY the png files and the required txt info file.
As plainjane said, splash screens are usually what are flashed via PC36IMG.zip files.
disk space?
it keeps tellin me i dont have enough disk space to copy and paste? i deleted the old boot anime, so how could i possibly not have enough??

FYI, NEVER delete anything from your system folders that is currently working until you have a replacement that you know for a fact works. I usually rename the file with (backup) appended to the file name. That way I can go back if the file I am replacing it with is junk.
It dosent matter if its just a boot animation... I cut my phone back on before i got it workin

Uhh.....what?
1. Place the bootanimation.zip file below into /system/media/
2. DO NOT change the name at all.
3. Move preexisting bootanimation file somewhere into your SD card so that you don't lose it.
4. Then reboot your phone.
I know for a fact that the file is a good file because I've used it before. If your phone still screws up then you're most likely not putting it in the right location. The zip file size is just under 5MB. So make sure you have at least that much space free in your phone's internal storage.
I included thumbnail previews of the bootanimation. (I don't remember who created this bootanimation but it was not I.)
Edit: I think it was Dysgenic, or something like that, that created this bootanimation.
What i was saying is it doesent matter if you delete all boot animations and cut your phone on. It just defaults to a very simple android one... And that i had got it workin.
