Boot animation default location? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have stock 2.1 rooted with Unrevoked3 and can't seem to find where the default bootanimation.zip is. Can anyone tell me where it should be?

Install boot animation

Is there a way to install a new boot animation with using only my phone

You need a file manager with root access like Root Explorer or SU file manager. Go into system/media or system/customize/resource, I've seen it placed in both, and delete the bootanimation.zip and replace it with the one you want. Make sure the new one is named bootanimation.zip.

I was wondering this too but myn's warm 2.2 bonito bootup it's cool except it has a fall feel to it.

What he said!
dglowe343 is correct. I do this all the time. After flashing to CM6 I always replace the boot animation with the Froyo one.
I tried this, but I lost my boot animation and had to do a nandroid recovery.
I am on myn's 2.2 rls4
ya lately i have only been getting luck with flashables, which is wird. i cant do it manually for some reason. i will look at the update_script and see if it is being chmod'ed or something.
I can't seem to find very many flashables either, and I am really getting sick of myn's custom one lol.
Who you tellin lls...myns rom is cool and all but the boot animation
is bit boring

Something seems to be wrong with a bunch of the boot animations. I am just going to resort to good old dancing droid...
Does anyone have a link or something that i can use to find flashable bootanimations

Try downloading a stock rom and taking it out manually

No root bootanimation change

Tryn to change boot on unrooted inc. Cani? If so how? Please help

You need to root. That allows read/write to /system, specifically /system/resources/customize, where it lives.
Unrooted means you can only read /system, so you cannot replace or change anything.

Thanks for reply. Thought so. sister wants it changed but not root.

[Q] Location of custom boot animation

Hello, can you tell me where I can find the files for my custom boot up? I installed one using MIUI's Theme Manager, so I'm not sure where I would find it
For AOSP it is in system\media, for sense it is here, system\customize\resource.
And what if I wanted to change the boot animation on the stock rom (rooted)

Rename the old file VZW_bootanimation.zip to .zip.bak
Use android commander to push the file back in - disregard any memory errors. Rename bootanimation to VZW_bootanimation.zip

Ok, I got the new Bionic animation working, but it also has sound...how can I get the sound to work? Running stock rooted if that makes a difference.

It would be awesome if people started posting custom boot animations we could flash from recovery.
Wish I had the time and know-how to do it.

Changing boot animation

I have evolution deck 1.3b and clockwork recovery and have tried all ways that are on the forums and boot animation and splash screen still won't load. Ideas please. Also dont have adk.

If you don't have adb, take the bootanimation.zip and using es file manager, root explorer, ect, move the .zip to the folder: /system/media . As for the splash you need to simply rename that zip file to PC36IMG, place on the root of your sd card, boot into the bootloader, accept the terms, then reboot.
It says can not complete copy.

You have to make sure you have r/w enabled for both root explorer or es file manager.
In root explorer, the button is at the top, in es file manager, go to settings, then scroll down.
Still no go. After reboot

Verified that you have s-off, and the bootanimation.zip is good?
Yes on s-off. How do I verify zip

Well you could use an md5 checker...but more importantly, the zip was from a reputable place, and its known to work, by other people downloading it.
Ya from xda forum

Have you tried it with root explorer?

The Droid break dancing for animation. And black background. With green Droid peeking for splash

And you enabled r/w permissions in es file manager??
Ya, I got it to copy and paste in /system/media. Then rebooted. Also tried renaming splash to PC36IMG.zip and rebooted. To bootloader. And stays as stock ones for rom

Is the file named bootanimation.zip , just like that?
Make sure its named bootanimation.zip, also if using root explorer to copy paste after you pasted it on system/media, go ahead and long press it and select permissions, give it full permissions just to make sure

Weird..Make sure its bootanimation.zip and not bootanimation.zip.zip cuz that's what happen to me I didn't pay attention to detail

Could be a number of things
1) wrong script for cwm(believe everyone above 3 needs editify script
2) not the correct location for the rom your running
3) the one your try to flash may not be flashable
4) could be made for a different phone(if you followed links to get that is)
5) not named correctly for your rom inside the zip
So after all that lets try this
1) what rom are you using
2)what bootanimation are you trying to flash
Give us those and i'm sure someone on here can help you get the one you want on the rom your running.
Tapa away from a galaxy far away
I use root explorer to move bootanimation.zip to system/media, but depends on the rom
Not running any Rom I am rooted and clockwork installed...I can't find any good roms that work perfect like 100% and I like my HTC sense.
