Hi,
I was curious, when you install a rom & do a Titanium Backup restore of your data, are you possibly overwriting any system data?
Is it safe to use Titanium Backup to backup your apps, switch roms, restore, etc? Will that cause some sort of problem when trying roms?
Thanks,
Rich
I have limited knowledge about this, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt.
in my experience, doing a FULL back up and FULL restore resulted in errors. in my experiments with roms, i would back up only user apps with titanium then use an app for call log backups and another app for sms backups.
i really wish there was a way to backup everything BUT system data, that way when i relead a rom, all my icons will come back in the same order, my bookmarks will be intact and my settings would be the same. i'm not sure how to do that yet though.
I backup all user apps and then select the system data I want (desktop/messages/dictionary/boomarks). I too ran into errors if I backed up/restored everything.
Once I make the backups though I order the list by date backed up so all the stuff I skipped is at the bottom of the list; makes it somewhat easier to restore.
Hi,
Can you please advise me how I can backup sense + settings of system program on my phone? As I understand TB haven't done it. :-\
you could go for MyBackup Pro, it can backup apps, android home, system settings text messages...well everything. It's pretty pimp!
TB will backup and restore all user & system settings and data. The only thing you will have to do is re-place any none sense widgets after the restore.
I've easily rooted and flashed several different phones.
The problem I always run into is restoring my apps, themes and settings.
Every time I install a new ROM, I lose all that. My apps are backed up via google. I've tried Titanium Pro...made backups, but can't for the life of me figure out how to easily restore everything. Is that even possible?
I was hoping the steps would be:
1. Backup apps, theme, settings, data (phone logs, pictures, etc).
2. Flash new ROM
3. Restore apps, theme, settings, data
4. Enjoy
But my step 3 has always been:
Re-install all apps, edit settings, put apps on homescreens, put widgets on homescreens, forget data...sometimes it takes me a day or two to "remember" all the cool apps and settings. Am I just plain clueless, or does everyone suffer in this regard?
I do not suffer from this at all.
Use TB to backup and restore APP only, no data.
Use nova, apex, holo or any other launcher that allows you to backup and restore desktop shortcuts as well as launcher settings.
Use SMS backup to backup and restore text messages.
Restore data using TB one app at a time if you really need it, just be aware that restoring data may cause issues with your new ROM. I restore data for games only...

Titanium is a powerful tool, but not very user-friendly to the uninitiated. When you flash a new ROM, download titanium backup and the pro key (always do the key second). When you open TB, hit menu, then preferences, and scroll down to Backup Folder Location. Tap that and tell it to search the whole phone. After a moment it should find your backups. Select it, Hit Use Current Folder, then back out to the start screen. Hit the check mark in the upper right and when it presents you with your backup/restore options, select restore user apps. It's perfectly okay to restore user apps with their data. Just don't restore system apps with data (in fact don't restore system apps at all). As mentioned before, if you use a third party launcher, your homescreens should be saved as part of that backup (except for widgets, which you'll have to add back yourself). You'll still have to set your settings back and reapply any themes, but you're most of the way there.

Cant back up theme.
Data restore works better when rom base is same, from one 4.0.4 to another. If switching bases, avoid data and setting restore
You should have no problem restoring data from downloaded apps thou

When I use Titanium Backup to backup Torque and then make changes to Torque as
in changing one of the PID screens. Then I use Titanium Restore without doing another Backup, Titanium restores back to the changes that I made and not to the original backup that I did before the changes. What am I doing wrong or missing in the settings??? I have no automatic backups set and all of the above is done within just 1-2 minutes of the backup!.............Help
Also, can someone tell me exactly where the 'user data', PID screens, are stored? I have my backups going to the external SD card....GPS card.
I did another backup using CoPilot after adding an address into Favorites. Then I erase that address and did another RESTORE without doing another backup and the new address is not there!
This would indicate that Titanium Backup is not using the 1(one) backup that I have on the SD card; otherwise the added address should have been in the backup..........any help appreciated!
