Alright, so I previously rooted my slide; installed the SU.apk, ect. ect.
I had some cool stuff namely Wifi Tether, Root Explorer, and Droidcap. Anyways, I got a message saying that the OTA update was available AND STUPIDLY without backing up via Clockwork I ran the update.
None of my root programs seem to be working, some will open but wont function properly. Yeah I messed up :/ But what now? Do I have to reroot or is there a slightly simpler solution? Thanks guys
UPDATE: Oh wow, I didn't even realize there was a new root method, and it particularly concerns my problem. I feel bad for posting this, and the mods should definitely delete this.

So I rooted my Evo using toasts root method both part 1 and 2. I am having a few issues though.
Now I haven't flashed any ROM after doing a nandroid restore at the end of the Part 2 tutorial.
Issues I'm having.
Can't set up Exchange email account. I keep getting an authentication failed. I have double and triple checked my settings. Is there a known issue with this after root?
Superuser Permissions just blank and things that I know should be asking for permission aren't? Before when I had unrEvoked things like WiFi Tether and Overclock Widget asked to be granted Superuser Permissions and now neither do and WiFi Tether won't connect.
I did have to load the apk for Superuser Permissions from a backup due to it not being there after I rooted.
I also know there has been mention of toasts root having issues with Android Market protected apps. Has this been fixed?
When I went through the root process I didn't get any unusual errors. Just a few that were my fault like not having the phone in charge only mode.
Should I just flash Flipz stock rooted rom? Should I wipe and start over?
Everything seemed to go smoothly I'm just a smidge new to Android so I'm hoping I might have just missed a step somewhere that I thought might have been optional.
Thanks in advance for the help
Flash to flipz now, thats what I ended up doing. I was also having problems with the stock rom that needed to be installed after root. Same problem with superuser, I actually had to install unrevoked, just to get superuser back, and so I could use the wireless tether. I did a wipe and installed fresh, and everything worked right away, no problems at all.

Yeah looks like I'm just going with flipz. I just tried unrevoked to get back superuser permissions working and well it worked and wifi tether works now. I have now lost usb connection. Phone will charge but doesn't ask me if I want disk drive mode etc.
Hey guys, im fairly new to the whole rooting and customizing of android scene, but i rooted my epic 4g using the oneclickmethod found here. Everything has gone fine and ive been able to flash multiple roms and try different things out, but today i downloaded the font changer app which then lead me to downloading the busy box app, however i got hung up on the installation of busy box because its saying im not nand unlocked. i assumed that took place with the whole rooting method, is there anything i can do to fix that at all?

I believe No nand unlock is needed, unless it goes through that when rooting. Make sure superuser is up to date. Even try to uninstall superuser and re install. I had the same problem before and am trying to remember what I did. I know I uninstalled superuser & re installed and uninstalled the APP i was trying to get to work and also re installed. So try that and see if it works
Samsung doesn't NAND lock their phones.

i dont mean to sound completely stupid, but how do i go about uninstalling/reinstalling superuser, do i just re-root the phone? Just asking before i try anything so i minimize my chance of bricking, thanks guys.
why dont you link us to the app not working?
If you have a ROM installed chances are that you already have busybox, there that most dev's include it on there ROMs.
I think that your trying to install Busybox in an area of your phone were its currently mounted as Read Only and not R/W. Double check the destination of the busybox installer (it will give you several options) and choose from there.
I have been using z4root for a while. Today when I pressed wireless tether I got a message. Unable to tether is your device rooted. I am using version 1.3.0 I tried reinstalling the software. That did not work. When I root my phone it says I am rooted when I press wireless tether I get serveral messages the first one says sorry but your kernel does not have all necessary features for running this application. I tried pressing ignore then I got message that this application will not work properly. Then I get message that says unable to start tethering is your device rooted. My software z4root says I am rooted and seems to work. Yet the wire less tether does not see that I am rooted.
Yesterday I got the update message on Android incredible. But it did not work. Got the not enough space message. I did move a lot of my apps to my sd card could this be the problem? I also have enabled acess control in wireless tether app. Also enable wifi encryption is checked? I still have version 2.2. Please help me I love using this.
Why don't you just permanent root with unrevocked?

I was afraid it would do something that I did not know how to reverse if I do not want it permanently rooted?

Is safe and if for any reason you don't want permanent root there's way to go back stock/unrooted

Well in the developers world we call it permanent because you can restart/turn off and the device stay rooted. Unlike temporary you restart and the root is gone

I tried unrevoked. Downloaded all software. It went through all processes and keeps getting stuck after rooting. Says phone temporarily lost comunication. Can't seem to get past this error message?

Your default connection type has to "charge only" and "never ask". Also, you have to check "unknown sources" under settings>applications, and usb debuging has to be checked.
Have you installed the adb drivers on your pc?
Also htc sync can not be installed in your pc when using unrevoked.
Here is a great beginers guide to rooting and what to d after rooted.

I am thrilled, Got. Phone rooted. Used 4share app. Downloaded 4zroot.apk app. Installed it. Looked like it did not work. Stuck on rooting. After I powered off and on phone was rooted. I have only used this for tethering. Is there any way to save battery life with rooted phone.

Yes! Flash a custom Rom and Kernel and you will see a great improvement on battery life. The best kernels I have used with great battery performance are Incredikernel and Gingertiny. Do some research first then start flashing, and make sure you do a backup before flashing anything.

Does backing up rooted phone mean that I have all my downloaded apps and data on either my computer or my sd card. Is there anything else I need to back up? Right now I only have one program that I downloaded that is not from the market. All my contacts are on my gmail account?

When you back up with recovery it backs up your entire phone to the clockwork folder on your sdcard. It is highly recommended that you copy the backup folder to your pc on a regular basis just in case something goes wrong with your sd.
Ok just downloaded clockwork. Haven't really done anything else with the phone since it is rooted. Other than get wireless hotspot.
I am just learning about Roms and Flashing. What OS system would you recommend for the incredible. I installed Rom Manager. That is where I got clockwork from. Seems like an easy program. Do I need to erase anything on my phone manually before I put a new OS system on it?
Never mind just rebooted and everything is there.
Just backed up my sd card. But Now it shows empty on my phone and it says sd card needs to be mounted when I open ROM manager. How do I get my stuff back on the SD card? I just copied it to a file on my computer. I do not understand what happended to everything on the card.
PLEASE HELP
I clicked on clockwork recovery it went through the process. When I look at the clockwork file on my sd card it does not say anything about a back up there are some files in download folder is that the backup? Is there any OS that I can install that won't wipe the phone clean? And if I do wipe the phone how do I put back my stuff like ringtones etc.
There are a ton of things you can do to save battery life... Search the threads and you will find a lot of info....
Some things to start with... Turn off phone finder, use ROM toolbox to increase WiFi scan intervals, use sleep mode at night, don't use ES file explorer, etc
Lots of options

Why ES file explorer a problem?

I attempted to root my phone using 1-click root app and it looked like everything went well. I was able to tether, titanium backup could access what it needed to, etc. As I continued to try new apps I started to see an error message more and more "<app name> as been denied super user permissions". At first I thought nothing of it but now Im starting to question it my phone is fully rooted.
I down loaded Root check basic which tells me that my SPH-710 is not rooted as I once thought. Now Im not sure what I should do?
It should be noted that when I go into recovery mode sometimes I have issues when attempting to boot. (I know this isnt much to go on but I havent exactly documented whats happening and Im paranoid to try it right now).
So here I am looking to you phone gurus for advice. I should have the correct drivers and development kit installed, but again this isnt something I do on a daily basis and would rather not go into this blind and brick my phone. The last phone I rooted was my EVO 4G and once I got that configured where I wanted it I never touched it again.
Anway.. any links, apps, sites, etc, that you could provide would be appreciated.
Thank you.
The easiest way is to flash a rooted kernel in odin, download a ROM and install it through the recovery if you want to after that.

If you were able to run Titanium you were rooted. You probably got an OTA update recently which disables your root. Just re-run the rooting package and you'll have it back.
Re-root Post OTA
+1, got the update a couple nights ago and also lost root even though I still had the Superuser app and could run the allowed programs there as root.
I used sfhub's method to root again and it was a snap:

Bonus is s/he now supports a way to turn off CIQ!
I've had a few apps tell me that I'm not rooted and my wifi tether no longer works (laptop doesnt even see the network. Tried changing and using another tehtering app and it saw it but only gave me limited connection. No internet.) but when I put SU into terminal emulator it returns #.Can someone please tell me how to check to make sure my root is still fully entact and functioning.
Try opening the superuser app.
Thanks for the fast response man. I really appreciate it.
I did and it didnt do anything so I cleared the permissions for it aaaaaaand think i made it worse. in super user I scrolled down to the wifi tether app and clicked it and hit the trash icon withouth thinking it through. IS there a way to manually add allowed apps. I also noticed SU never prompts me to allow apps anymore. Really holding up my ingress progress. lol

Just run any app that needs root and it will prompt you again. You cake also download root checker from play store.

Thank you too eles. I actually just did that and it told me I dont not have proper root access. But Terminal emulator does show # when prompted. Can either of you tell me how what may have caused this and how to fix it. I did just get the 4.1.1 update from T-mo so Im thinking maybe that.

Thanks again aero. I reflashed it and Root checker still says im not. I also tried to run fix permissions and it says an error too.I also tried to do a back up and it hangs on "done freeing up space". What would be your next step to diagnosing/fixing this. and Thanks again you guys I've been freaking out a little. lol
Just re-root.
Then reflash your favorite ROM.
How did you root in the first place?

Is it really that simple? Won't there be some issues because I have a somewhat partial root already? I honestly don't rememeber my original method. I did it back in september and havent messed with it since. I never even ran any roms I'm still bone stock. Is there a method you would suggest? or possibly a link to it?
Yes, it really is that simple.
If root still isn't working, follow instructions in my signature. The su zip is also going to wipe out any previous superuser/supersu that is present on your phone.
Alternatively, if you already have CWM on your phone, you can use this http://db.tt/okfh9vzU to update it without tripping your counter.
Thanks to your guys' help I was able to reroot using the tool kit. Now my issue is that I did this to fix my wifi tethering issue and its not. What app would you guys suggest for tethering? I dont have it on a part of myplan but I know theres ways around it. Wifi tether and barnacle didnt work (wasnt seen by laptop or other s3) and fox fi was identified, let me connect but said it was limited, then eventually went to fully connected but still wouldnt load pages or anything. If I can get one of you guys to help me solve this by suggesting an app or something I'll get out of your hair.
Do I need to load a custom rom to tether maybe? Thanks again guys.
