[Q] Questions about overclocking - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have downloaded the kingklick kernel and there is OC'ing available. It is capable of being OC'ed around 1.1ghz or so. Now I purchased the SetCPU from the market and I was wondering what to do next? Im afraid to just try to fool around with some stuff and mess up my phone. Anyone able to help?

go to setCPU and and click the about tab (i think thats what its called) the dev put a nice info page together that describes the ropes.
Other than that, it is pretty basic (although full of awesomeness). Just set the governor (how the cpu scaling is performed) and set the min max.
But the info page should describe most. There is also information around somewhere that goes more in-depth I am sure

this page helped me

also, if you search around for 'setcpu profiles' and such, you can see where folks have posted their configs. look around in the thread of your favorite ROM, chances are folks are playing with setcpu in there...look for a couple that sound like they have a clue and ask them if they use setcpu (i'm thinking a direct message, not a thread posting) if they'd send you a screenshot to help jump start your understanding of the app.

[Q] Differences between cpu scaling?

I cant tell the difference between most of the cpu scaling options in setcpu. Which make the biggest changes from the default conservative i was on? I am unsure what others will do to my evo. I assume some use more batt. than others with increased performance... or something like that... help would be appreciated

setcpu widget help

Hey guys, just got the setcpu widget on my rooted and kernel flashed evo. I would like some help with all of the setting such as what I should set for charging, screen off, and so forth. I am running warm twopointtwo if that helps. Thanks in advance
DO. A. SEARCH. There's a bajillion threads about recommended SetCPU profiles.
That's why I posted this thread. I id a search and one guy had posted his text file so I put it on my sd card and it seems to make my performance worse.

USE.REAL.WORDS. Your point gets lost when using words that dont exist. Searching on this site sucks anyway. I can never find the same thing twice. Keep postin

Really though, just mess around till you find settings you like and works for you. People can "recommend" all they want. On the other hand, do you need an explination of the settings? SetCPU isnt necessarily about increasing performance, but managing that performance.

I know how feel about these settings.. for some reason no post a tutorial or anything..I searched so many websites and no gave a real answer.. i just found a couple..so these are my settings..
I you have a rooted phone..with a customer Kernerl, than you can overclock on the main screen and profile..meaning it can go past 998..
these are my settings that I saw from someone else.
Temp>50 499min/245min-on demand
screen off 245max/245min-on demand
charging 1113max/245min-performance <--I am overclocked
battery<25% 460max/245min-on demand
batter<50% 998max/245min-on demand
dont know how good or bad these seetings are..but they work for me..hope it helps
how do these settings affect your battery life?

How to undervolt

I am new to the whole idea of undervolting. I have previously overclocked my phone's but never undervolted. Is there a how to guide anywhere in the forums that i failed to find, if not can someone explain the steps and settings that they found stable on their phones with out a significant performance decrease. I am already rooted and have an overclock/undervolt kernal installed. I apologize if i missed this topic in a search.

First step would be to go to the kernel thread and see how/what app should be used for the under volt/governor/i/o scheduler settings and install that. Different kernel makers may want you to use different methods.
Second, under volt settings will be different for every phone as the hardware is different. The best way is to take down every frequency 25mV at a time and do not use set at boot or any option like that. The reason for this is that you need to make sure your phone will be stable. If you set at boot and go too far and your phone reboots, you may be stuck in a boot loop and have to reinstall your ROM. After trying your phone for awhile and it seems stable reduce the voltage again and try it out continuing these steps until your phone becomes unstable/reboots/lags then raise your voltages the next step up. Try again for a bit and if all is well then you can utilize the set at boot option.
Remember every phone is different, only lower your voltages till what is good for you, doesn't matter if someone else with same ROM kernel can under volt further, they just have different hardware.

Kernel

I could use some helpful advice. No matter what kernel I switch to I get quite a few reboots. I am no expert. It gets kind of annoying. I do not overclock and have checked out the different GPU? (384,512) options that are out there. For some of the governors i check for the MAX_speed to be the same as the slider in the apps. If you could, it would be cool if @ anyone to give some feedback or if there is more information needed. GSM nexus/CM10 / trinity franco faux glados
EDIT- I think a battery overheat or sometimes the cpus run over or at max or if there is such a thing as overload?
I guess there must be other threads like this or posts. What exactly should be put in the search box? I'm not as smart as the rest of you.
Check the stickied post in galaxy nexus general section. MBQ's post has a lot of info

[Q] couple straightforward questions

So, these should be somewhat straightforward....please don't flame me if they are stupid I just want to know and can't find the straight goods
1. In system tuner pro, when I select force all cpu online, is that a good idea? I notice when I don't have it selected, then only two cores seem to even ever be used. There aren't even time slots for the other two no matter how much or hard I use my nexus. If I select force all cpu online then I find that, with the faux123 kernel anyways (haven't tried other ones yet) then all cores seem to stay at 1.51ghz even when I push the clock rate up. With them not forced on, I can push them as high as the kernel goes and there are no issues they both max at that speed. Any ideas here?
2. Is it a good idea to force all cores online?
3. Is there any other way to ensure that all four cores get used when they are need? Or is system tuner just not showing me them being used?
4. Are there any kernels out right now that are made for cm10.2 based roms? I asked faux123 about using his kernel and he told me that cm is based on some kind of Qualcomm base whereas many other roms are aosp based, which is what he wrote his kernel for. After asking if they were compatible he said there may be problems as there are don't differences, so I'm scared to try it now....hate gong to the hassle of having to reflash every time something goes awry
I know there was one more but since I forget this is good for now....thanks in advance for any and all help!

1) Questions in the Q&A(rules in stickies)
2) I think you're in the wrong forum, the gnex only 2 cores.
That aside, the n4(I assume you're talking about the n4) using 2 cores most of the time is normal, seen it somewhere in the n4 board.
