What is the best rooted 2.2 upgrade for me?
Where can I go to find out what all the above means as well as odex and deodex?

Please search
check the wiki to point you to various roms and their threads, and read through the threads it links you to (or Neifs grid in the wiki, but i don't think its done yet) - it's all about personal choice, you'll have to try them all to find the one that you like best/works best for your phone. I wouldn't worry to much about all of the specs you posted, none of it comes into play for most people.
odex and deodex come into play if you plan on theming your phone. Generally you can only theme deodexed roms.
Sorry, but what is wiki or Neif's grid in the wiki?

OK - I'm going to try and be nice and help you out, but you're not really giving me much to work with here. Don't take this the wrong way, but if you don't know what a wiki is (or at the very least, know to type wiki into google to find a definition) you really don't belong here, and you will most likely brick your phone (which means turning it into a paperweight), because you don't know what your doing. You may want to just stick with what you have.
At the top of the Q&A section (this one, the one you posted this question in) is a thread called "HTC EVO Wiki".
A wiki ( /ˈwɪki/ WIK-ee) is a collaborative Web site oriented to providing knowledge in some domain. Anyone can enter information, or change or comment on anyone else's contributions.
So you go to a wiki to find and get information (ever hear of wikipedia?) Neif is a member here who is putting together a grid of the various rom capabilities - that grid is housed in the wiki.
PLEASE, do some reading, do some searching, and read the stickies in each section (stickies are the threads that are "stuck" at the top of each section) before you go any further.
Thanks for being kind and helping me out. I know what wikipedia is, but didn't understand the concept of a wiki. Everybody has got to start somewhere, and I've learned a lot from you guys especially timothydonohue in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=746408
Its nice to have a little direction when trying something new.
The only dumb question is the one not asked...
Thankyou
I've posted a similar thread which ended up in Q&A, but nobody looks there so I'm posting again in the hope someone can shed some light.
I've got a Virgin Desire (2nd hand) which I've debranded with the 2.1 HTC ROM I downloaded and flashed.
How do I get the new 2.2 on the phone? When I do OTA checks for updates it says none available and I can't find a thread with any information on what to do in this situation.
I've searched and checked many times and would appreciate some help!
Cheers,
Joe

I guess You will have to download any Froyo room and flash it manually. OTA update depends on carriers. Hope it helps
So for example, I flash the T-Mob ROM and then wait for the OTA from them?
If you have debranded and now have the HTC Generic ROM installed (with goldcard) then all you have to do is wait a couple days and keep checking.
Or as said above, download a 2.2 generic rom and flash that. Take a look around here, there's plenty of links to download available.
Thanks, I have the generic HTC ROM installed, so my final question is do I need the goldcard in there for the phone to recognise that there is an update available? I took it out at is was a 2gb card and have my normal 6gb card in there at present.
Cheers,
Joe
If your phone WAS branded then you'll need the gold card for ALL future updates

I think you should just put that in your signature
Seems to be what I say in all threads these days, isn't it??
Thanks guys - it may be what you say a lot but my search terms didn't lead me to it.
Perhaps a sticky would be good for this gem of a piece of information?
Go on, tell me it was there all the time and I missed it, hehe.
Just need to search 'debrand htc desire' and most of the threads at some point say keep the gold card in
Yep, freshly redone goldcard in (the one used for debranding) and hey presto...
No updates. Boo hoo.
I'll leave it in for a couple of days then and see what happens.
Geez, just download any Froyo rom and flash already. There are countless threads about this in this forum.

Dude, this phone was with Virgin and there's more chance of Santa Claus taking a dump in my toilet than getting 2.2 from them!
I figured vanilla HTC 2.1 would get the purest and quickest updates.
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed is what I used to flash it a few weeks back.
So if you've got that ROM what's the issue? Other than needing a gold card to get the new OTA there's nothing else you need as the OTA should just download and install
What ROM are you on at the mo?
Just looked at that page...
Edit: this is what I have now and I'm downloading the ROM and radio files from your sig Eddy. That presumably will sort it out.
And I now realise I've been a complete spack here. It's the recent (Sept 2010) 2.2 update I want - I know I have basic Froyo already.
Android version
2.2
Baseband
32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20
Kernel

Build

Software number

Browser version
Webkit 3.1
So am I on the latest and greatest anyway?
Oh arsemonkeys, the tribulation continues.
So I get the ROM on Eddy's sig, run it with fresh goldcard in and itonly goes so far and dumps me out with the black screen/HTC logo - first on the PC is said waiting for bootloader and a couple of minutes later it errored out - something about USB connection error.
So I search and try the white bootloader/fastboot screen approaches but get even less far in.
I've done plenty of searching but the problem is that there is so much information here it's like a needle in a haystack to work out what I need to do to get this ROM on board.
If anyone can help me out then feel free - I'm well and truly befuddled now!
Wait there's an official 2.2 rom for the Desire?

2.10.405.2 is the latest version, is it not saying it's there if you check for OTAs?
Yes that's what I mean Eddy, no updates show up as being available, whether a gold card is in or not and to top it off I don't seem to be able to install the ROM on your Sig.

hi!!!and welcome!
i recommend to you that read about it in the ANDROID DEVELOPMENT FORUM in this order you can find it in the XDA BROWSER, okay?
1-how to DOWNGRADE and root my dhd...
2-how to do a RADIO S-OFF, ENG OFF,& SUPERCID
3-How to flash a new recovery (clockworkmod)CWM
4-in this step you must to select a rom for flash into your phone
but this is soo personal thing..every people wants different features and things of the different roms i recommend that you taste a lot... COREDROID LEEDROID, ANDROID REVOLUTION HD,MIUI, CYANOGENMOD7, are cool customized roms to try.
then... you can flash new kernel...new radio....
look at for this in "dhd radio thread" or diferent threads of kernels in android development forum.
2.2.1 means that you have "froyo android version" and 1.75 is the number of the build...
ready atention.. you must to downgrade since 1.75 to 1.32 for you can root your device...because your device is actualized via OTA since 2.2 to 2.2.1
for instructions on rooting your phone go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
Now on 1.32, rooted, S-off and eng-off and supercid as well
just installed clockword also so now time to try a few roms

Hello,
This is a silly question but i have searched the entire forum+google and I didnt find an answer on this.
So 3 questions
I am considering to install the Virtuous v3.2.0 ROM and in the thread it says
You must be rooted, have nand unlocked and be running a 2.x radio. Follow dadicus' guide for details on how to perform these steps.

I am rooted, checked
NAND unlock = S-Off(?), checked
Radio 2.x??? How do I know what radio version I have?
My Baseband version is 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
1) So is this my radio version? And if it is how i determine if it is 2.X?
Also I read the thread for updating a radio
I have rooted and S-OFF the phone with Easy Radio and S-Off tool. My question is:
2) It is ok to jump to Step 3?
3) And the version of the Radio that i will flash has anything to do with the current version? I mean to put 2.X i need to have 1.X?
Thank you for your time!

Edit: I've just re-read your post and you've linked to a Droid Incredible ROM but you're posting in the Desire HD forums... The DHD radios won't work on a Droid Incredible, and the Incredible ROMs won't work on a DHD. Ignore everything below unless you're on a DHD!
I assume by "2.x radio" they mean a radio from one of the Gingerbread 2.x bases. Go to the Radio Thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295 and check the description against each radio.
For example your radio for your 12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M it says "HTC WWE 1.32.405.6", so I would think you need to update your radio. A lot of people are using the radio from the official Gingerbread final release
28th April 2011: Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 - HTC Ace Gingerbread S 2.36.405.5
Regarding flashing the radio, I haven't read that thread in detail but it's for the Droid Incredible, and the method won't be the same for the DHD. There are better instructions in the radio thread I linked. Hope that helps.
Nice one my dear me
Sorry I totally didnt notice that that ROM was for another phone. Someone suggested it and I didnt check it...
Thanks for the information I will read the post...
Thanks again

Heh, no problem. The radio info is good then. You're on a very old radio, so if you want to try a custom ROM based on Gingerbread then it would still be a good idea to update it. Check the thread and also follow the link in it to the info about Radio RILs.
And there is a Virtuous "Unity" ROM for the DHD by the same team, the thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115312
Thanks, maybe that was the one that the guy suggested then
I will check the links. Respect
Oh another small question
Can I jump directly and install 28th April 2011: Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 - HTC Ace Gingerbread S 2.36.405.5
Or because my radio is so old I will have to make some intermediate updates?

You won't have to make any intermediate updates, but I'm not 100% sure how the Gingerbread radios (2.x) work on Froyo ROMs - might be worth asking in the thread. I know people are doing it the other way around, i.e. using older Froyo radios (1.x) on newer GB ROMs.
But if you're on a Froyo ROM and about to change to a Gingerbread one, most custom GB ROMs have the RIL files for the radio above included. In that case you're fine, and it doesn't matter whether you flash the ROM or the radio first.
Yeap its me again Sorry for the many questions but I read that flashing a radio is too risky and I do not want to attempt anything before I am 100% sure that I have the full picture...
In the thread that you gave me with the radios (and thank you for that) next to the radio version there is a provider
eg
25th February 2011: Radio_12.28g.60.140f_26.05.05.27_M3 - Orange UK 1.84.61.2 / CSL-HK CHT 1.84.832.2

Hi again. Don't worry, this is the Q&A forum after all.
I guess in theory flashing anything is risky, but it's very difficult to "brick" a DHD (i.e. make it completely un-fixable). I've flashed radios dozens of times, searching for that elusive perfect one. And if anything should go wrong (unlikely), as long as you have a working bootloader you can restore just about anything else. Just take your time and follow instructions written specifically for the DHD, the best ones are generally found in these forums.
By the way, you need to have Eng S-OFF (engineering bootloader) to flash radios in the standard way, do you have that yet? If not, jkoljo's tool for that is the best way, it has loads of fail-safes built in to make sure it works correctly.
To answer your questions, you can ignore the provider name (e.g. Orange, Cingular) - that just means the radio was released specifically for that carrier, but it often works well with other networks. For example the best radio for me on Froyo was the Cingular one, but I'm on Vodafone in the UK.
It's hard to tell you the best radio, as it depends on your network, location, etc. - for example one radio might use more power, and use more battery in areas with good signal strength (e.g. cities), but it would work better in areas with a poor signal. This is why some people flash different radios to test them.
It can also depend on which ROM you're planning to use. Gingerbread ROMs are generally built to work with the 28th April official radio, so I would suggest starting with that if you're on a GB ROM.
By the way, the key bit of the radio name that identifies it is the part after the underscore character "_", so for the
Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 - HTC Ace Gingerbread S 2.36.405.5
radio you can refer to it as the "26.09.04.11_M2" radio.
If you're on a Froyo ROM, I would start off with the 26.04.02.17_M2_SF radio Drakknar recommends. If you're on a Gingerbread ROM, I would start with 26.09.04.11_M2. If it works fine, you're done. Unless you're like some of us, obsessively searching for something just slightly better.
Just don't forget that if you flash a radio other than the one recommended for the ROM, you should also flash the matching RIL file. The radio thread has a link to the RIL thread. The RIL for the ROM's recommended radio will already be included in it, though.
Anyone else reading this should feel free to jump if they have any differing advice!
I already have ENG S-OFF and I am using a Gingerbread ROM more specifically TRUE SENSE 3.0 - i00 ROM 5.5 (Since Android version that my device reports is 2.3.3)
But I have some issues with creating and renaming folders on the Home screen, and I cannot report it as bug because I do not have the required posts
Anyway Thanks again for the quick and detailed answer!

Ah, that ROM does recommend the 26.04.02.17_M2_SF radio, I see what you mean, I assume they have included the relevant RILs so I would start off with that one. It certainly performed very well for a lot of people, despite being an older radio.
Good luck with your homescreen bug.
I realize most questions regarding hboot are usually to unlock it, but I am the curious type [and already have mine unlocked]. I was under the impression that hboots have unique version numbers... Some of you already know where I am going now. The HTC Desire also has hboot 1.06. The two hboots [from what I have read and know already] are not really the same. So umm what is going on there?
Secondly, I've read of Chinese development [possibly] having an engineering bootloader for the Wildfire S. Do they? Could we maybe procure it or a link to it? I am really thinking it may not work with marvelc, but I would love to take a gander at it.
Third, I undetsand a wee bit about linux toolchains and bootloaders [from building LFS], who would be the hboot guru for android I would need to seek some knowledge from if I wished to make an eng hboot for marvelc.
Thanks for your comments, discussion, etc.
