[Q] Telus Radio ROM/2.2 Issue - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted and then flashed my phone up to 2.2 ROM found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775
Now the phone boots into Froyo successfully and registers on my carrier's network (Telus, for the record, and it's a Telus Desire). I can send texts and make calls, but the phone won't initiate a data connection.
Flashing procedure:
I flashed the 5.09.00.20 Radio ROM found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464&highlight=radio+rom
I wiped both cache and apps/user data.
I then flashed the Froyo ROM.
Any ideas? Are some radio ROMs not compatible with my network perhaps? Did I miss a step?

...yeah, didn't put APNs in. Silly me.

Rooting Telstra HTC Desire

Hi guys, I'm new here and i've just had my Desire for just over a week.
Apparently I need to use a Goldcard to root my desire and wanted to ask a couple of questions in regards to this.
-My understanding is that the Telstra Desires are unlocked, therefore not needing a Goldcard?
-After the rooting process is finished do you still need the Goldcard or is it only needed while you initially root the phone?
-During the rooting process, you replace the original rom with another rom, can this be any rom on the market that is rooted? or should it be the recommended rom stated in the guide?
-Which set of files do i use during the rooting guides? as the phone is bootloader 0.75 but has a 1.16.841.1 rom?
I have done a fair amount of reading on other posts(XDA and MoDaCo) and just need to get a better understanding of how the rooting process works.
Desire Bootloader Shows:
BRAVO UNKNOW SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.75.0000
MICROP-031d
TOUCH-PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-4.05.00.11
Device:
Stock Telstra ROM
HTC Desire A8183
Build 1.16.841.1
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Howdy, as I have a Telstra Desire I think I can help.
1. You need the gold card, there are guides about, but leave a message in this thread if you need specific direction.
2. I would use whatever ROM is in the guide, I have been using Rom Manager to switch ROM's since then though. (Which is currently broken for me, working on it now)
3. I used the 0.8 or greater guide one on mine, seemed to do the job.
so to sum it up
a. make gold card, I have kept this card on my 2gb micro sd
b. flash rom, I have this on my 4gb micro sd
c. use new stuff, I have a 16gb flash for my daily use.
Enjoy but be prepared to have a few bugs pop up. Also, no FROYO roms have video recording working yet..... (This is the biggest missing feature)
Thanks heaps.
So once you flash a custom ROM, you don't need the Goldcard to boot the device?
Is there any way to flash directly from a PC rather than copy the ROM to the SD card, or is it worth using ROM Manager?
And how do you install/use ROM Manager/clockwork? i assume you need to be rooted first?
have you had any problems with GPS since flashing custom roms?
Sorry, i've been reading heaps, and i think i'm confusing myself more than making sense.
Mate I have a Telstra Desire as well, I rooted/flashed it last night (after weeks of paranoia), and it's well worth it. Just follow the instructions closely and you will be right.
I am running 24/6 Modaco and GPS seemed to be working well this morning, battery consumption seems a little better, the overall performance is heaps better than stock.
What are you waiting for!? DO IT!!!!
Same here, if you need help you can pm me if you cant reach mrturkey
Great! i'll probably have a go this weekend.
A couple of other questions: are you still able to connect to the Telstra Next G Network? I assume you would be able to as you don't flash the radio?

Yep can still connect to NextG, I always check the APN's after putting a new rom as most of the time I have to change a couple of settings in them.
Don't need goldcard to boot after rooting is done
Best way to flash ROM's is from the SD card IMO.
The ROM manager / fakeflash methods are the easiest way to go (I use ROM manager) it is pretty straight forward to use, and yes you do need to root before using rom manager.
telstra next g vs 3g
Hi guys - just a quick question for those of you who are running Telstra Desires on Optus and other networks. Someone mentioned on whirlpool that the NextG version is actually missing the correct 3G band for running on the other networks (3G 900 Mhz?) and that the overseas/non-telstra versions are actually faster because they run at 3G speed rather than '2.5G'. Does that sound right to you, or is the speed of the Telstra Desire just fine on the Optus network?
Quote from Whirlpool:
I initially bought the Telstra-Branded Htc-Desire & brang it back for a REFUND.!
(I should of known better to listen to Telstra sales, as I hate branded phones)
I also use Optus, & having the Telstra branded one is, U miss out on the 3G 900mhz bandwidth...
Internet speeds have now gone waaay faster now & works like it's suppose too ... And so it should ...
OK well it indicates that it is connected as 3g, and in some areas h.
The speed seemed acceptable to me this morning when I downloaded some app updates.
How can I tell for sure whether its 2.5 or 3?
The NextG network is 3G. 2.5G is the old designation for GSM (or CDMA) networks with GPRS.
For optus you'll need to get the international version of the Desire (A8181) which works on the 900/2100 bands. According to wiki optus runs their own 3G network on 900. The telstra Desire runs on 850/2100.
btw...the "h" indicates HSPA support

I have a Telstra Desire running on the Optus network, and the speed is really good.
I rooted and my Desire over the weekend and loaded Modaco 1.21.mcr.2 CLxxxxxx ROM as a first custom ROM. Had a few issues with loading on the custom recovery after loading my custom rom (issues were due to adb drivers on windows OS - use a linux distro to load the recovery from UnrEVOked's recovery flashing thingamebob, then use ClockworkMod ROM Recovery from the Android market.
Ill try other ROMs this weekend once i am not using the phone for work...but all in all the phone is so much faster without the Telstra bloatware on it.
Thanks to all the developers around...(I will thank you financially aswell).

[Q] Desire: Sim Card Changed Message

Hi, I have just taken the plunge and installed the following Froyo ROM on my Desire [ROM] Rooted Official HTC Android 2.2 (FroYo) ROM [Market issue fixed]. My original phone came with Virgin shortcuts etc but was sold on T-Mobile. I unlocked and rooted before installing the ROM. Now every time I boot the phone I get a "sim card changed" message. If I click to cancel the message then the process which it starts (APN selection?) crashes. After this however it seems to work fine. I do notice though that my HSDPA connection is available in less places now. Any ideas?
Cheers
Alex

[Q] Telstra Desire GPS not working

I've got a rooted Telstra Desire and am currently running Opendesire 4 (purely to test the gps). Before that I was running nextsense and leedroid both of which did the GPS did not work on either.
My radio atm is 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 but before that was 32.42.00.32U_5.09.00.08, both of which the GPS did not work.
I just let it sit outside for 40 minutes with google maps navigation sit there stuck searching for GPS. (normally i'd test with GPS status but this time i did not want to install anything and test it clean.)
Has anyone got any other ideas on what to do from here?
Cheers
Hey mate, I'm with Telstra and haven't had a problem with my gps on stock and heaps of different rooted roms.
I'd suggest downloading the Telstra RUU recovery from here and flashing that. If your gps still doesn't work, take it back in to telstra and get them to replace it.
Wierdly GPS did work on my telstra device with OD4 and 32.43.00.32, then i flashed the 32.46.... radio and it stopped working, so I flashed the previous radio and that has stopped working as well.

A few questions. Do I just flash the ruu like other Rom? Do I need to downgrade my radio? Will thec ruu affect root? Will it change hboot?
Cheers for any help.

Think i bricked my Desire

Recently upgraded my contract with Orange and picked the HTC Desire previously having Hero and enjoyed it.
Having previously owned the Hero i had some knowledge on the Android system, so began to root, flash custom recovery and rom.
After rooting using unrevoked and flashing amon ra recovery.
I selected Cyanogen 6.0 desire rom, all flashed well, also flashed the latest radio which is where i think the probelm persists.
After reading that flashing the latest radio onto branded orange desire locks the sim, i purchased an unlock code htccode.com to see if that solved my problem, didn't help one bit, i don't even think the code will work unless im running the stock orange rom, but tried anyway with tmobile sim card, network unlock successful but phone says emergency calls only, so obviously didnt!
Can anyone help me get my htc desire back to orange stock rom? so i can then unlock the phone properly and flash a generic rom.
Hope all that make sense.
Andy.

[Q] Desire HD No Signal after Flashing Radio

Hi, I'm a complete noob here, so forgive me for my "stupidity".
Okay, so I downgraded my DHD from 2.37.707.3 to 1.32.405.3 by making a goldcard and then flashing it. After rooting my DHD (Visionary), I proceeded to S-OFF it. After playing around, flashing some ROMs (CWM), I decided to change my radio. I went to look for a ROM, then I downloaded its recommended radio. After getting ENG S-OFF, I went to flash my radio, then went to flash my ROM after wiping my data, dalvik cache, etc... But now, I am experiencing a horrible signal, and most of the time, the phone says: "Limited Service Emergency Calls Only". When I try searching for networks, I get:"The SIM card does not allow a connection to this network", even though this IS my home network! I am at my wit's end. I have tried many methods. I tried re-flashing the radio, switching back to S-ON, changing back to Stock CID and Stock ROM, and also simple stuff such as rebooting, factory reset, etc. I know it has nothing wrong with my SIM because it works with my other phones. I've tried searching online, but to no avail. My phone is not tied to any carrier.
Any ideas? Any help will be appreciated!

It's not obvious from your OP, have you tried to reflash your original radio?

Re: Desire HD No Signal after flash
okay, so I tried to revert to stock rom (revert the CID, change S-OFF to S-ON, etc) so after I started up my phone, there seemed to be a signal, but it slowly died away and now I'm stuck with the same problem.
Now, my phone info is:
Android ver: 2.3.3
Sense: 2.1
Baseband: 12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2
Kernel: 2.6.35.10-g3bf3222 [email protected]#1 Mon Apr 11 22:46:37 CST 2011
Build number: 2.37.707.3 CL56018 release-keys
Software number: 2.37.707.3
CID: HTC_044
I radio S-ON and reverted my CID to my default one (HTC_044) before updating using RUU: RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.37.707.3_Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2_release_188759_signed
did I do it correctly? before I started rooting and downgrading etc, my software version was 2.37.707.3, so that was why I changed back to this software. Am I doing this correctly?
the phone can suddenly get a signal, but after a while, it soon dies.
