Hello
Im new to posting, but not new to the forums. I read this forums daily. I would like to take this time to say thank you to the whole community, I personally have benefited from all the custom roms and tutorials.
I have a question:
I was on 2.1 rooted and decided I was going to unlock my nand and get Fresh Evo rooted 2.2 rom (which is amazing by the way) so I did a NAND backup before starting the process of unlocking my nand and flashing the Fresh 2.2 evo rom. Now that I am on the 2.2 Fresh Evo rom I would like to restore my 2.1 nand backup to take a look at some important data on there, after restoring that backup can I come back to a backed up nand of 2.2 Fresh Evo rooted rom without having any problems?
Simply, can I go from 2.2 rooted to a NAND backup of 2.1 rooted stock, then come back to my 2.2 FreshEvo rom?
I appreciate the help!
Thanks

why wouldn't you be able to? just make a nand of the freshevo rom
EDIT:
<--- NOOB AS WELL
Yes you can. I keep a Nandroid of Rooted 2.1 Stock, Rooted 2.2 Stock, and my latest CM6 Nightly that works handy at all times.
Thanks!
So just simple restores will do it when switching? No need for cache wipes or anything?

Im currently running the following...
3.75 fps fix kernel
Rooted through unrevoked3
1.47 ota unrevoked update.
Im wanting to try cm6. So im going to have to reroot through simpleroot for cm6. My question is if I take a nand backup of my current running system , is restoring it as simple as running recovery and selecting restore? I've rooted devices before just never have ran diffrent roms than stock ones.

Yes it is. You probably want to do a data and cache wipe before restoring, just to be safe.
Yes and no. If you do a nand of your unrevoked rooted phone then do full root then decide to restore your old rom you will wind up with unrevoked back instead of a full root rom running on top of the engineering hboot which allows for unlocking nand. You would probably be better off flashing another 2.1 based rooted rom even if it's a stock rooted ver rather than going back to unrevoked.
I never saw an answer to this question. But I did see someone say that they went back to 2.1 after they were running the new leaked 2.2 ROM. I also recall reading somewhere that once the new radio is updated, you can't go back.
If I am currently running Froyo 2.2 with version 2 radio, can I just RUU, then run Unrevoked to restore root, and then restore my nand backup to go back to were I was before I started, which was Eclair 2.1 rooted with v1 radio???
No speculation please. I want to know if this is possible. Preferably from a dev or someone who has done this successfully.
Thanks in advance!
You're making this way too complex (RUU, etc.). Just nandroid back and you're good.
Will nandroid also downgrade the radio??

No.

The OP stated that he wanted to go back to V1 of the radio. So if a nandroid restore won't downgrade the radio, then what options are there?
I believe this is what you are looking for.

My question is... if you do this Froyo 2.2 as in the developement area, because your phone is rooted when you are done, I don't think you will be able to get any further updates until you un-root. So do we have to revert all the way back to 2.1 or radio version 1?
I think I'll wait.

No, the OP stated that he'd "heard somewhere" that he needed to go back to V1 of the radio. I said he was making it too complex, just nandroid restore.
Really, it's that simple.
I forgot to nandroid after unrooting and installing the 2.1 ota leak. I am now rooted with the 2.1 ota leak and flashed the froyo leak. How would I go about getting back to stock?
So if we had previous 2.1 nandroid backups we can just restrore those? (while leaving the new HBOOT and radio of course)
I just want to be clear.
I love the new 2.2 Froyo. I'm currently running Ava V3RevA. I need to return to 2.1 though. Slingplayer Mobile isn't available in the 2.2 Marketplace, and I want to save it to Titanium backup then return to 2.2. I have Nandriod backups (from 2.1) and OMJ still on my sd card. When I restored a nandriod, the market was the exact same as the 2.2. Is this because I flashed the radios and the wimax?
Will I need to go back to the old radios? Or should I just try to flash OMJ? I havent tried that yet.

That is really weird. Go into Settings>About Phone>Software and see if you really are on 2.1. If you restored the nandroid properly, it should have downgraded your Rom and changed your market back to the old version.
Thanks, I'll retry.
I tried again, with no luck. Oh well. I tried to be good and pay for it. I just d/l the free version and it's working great. I guess that $30 will go to a donation for Ava.
Currently I am on Uk 2.21 2.1 rom and I want to upgrade to the new leaked UK 2.2 rom.
But actually I am happy with my rom because it is quite stable. So if I upgrade to 2.2 is there any way to go back and why? What about I build a backup for the Rom in advance and restore it later?
Thanks.
Hey before you flash uk rom 2.51 you shout do a nandroid backup because if you flash 2.51 you couldn't go back to 2.21 by flashing a sbf file. You only could root 2.51 with superoneclick and restore your old nandroid backup of 2.21.
Just follow the guide on Development forum. Got the uk 2.2 rom working yesterday, played around a little bit and are now back on 2.21 stock again and just restored a nandroid backup, nothing has changed. No prob.

Hi, I've been having some problems with my Htc Desire (Running Hboot 0.80, rooted & CM7). A couple of months ago Super User needed an update and required S-off. I didn't feel like doing that at the time, but after a while and a updated clockworkmod the phone locks up when i try to backup my current Rom.
So now I'm considering S-offing my phone and I was just wondering if i can use alpharev on my current Hboot considering that i'm running CM 7.03? '
Most guides use some kind of stock-Rom so i just wanted to check in advance rather then being sorry later.
It's just a matter of having a non A2SD/D2SD ROM, so it's safer to return to a stock ROM (You should have made a backup of it after rooting), you can try it on CM and you never know it might work.

Sure, I've got an old Leedroid and Htc original 2.2 so I'll pop the 2.2 back on and after the S-off is completed I can simply restore a older CM7 backup? It's a shame that the Super user needed S-off.

yeah just do that, I don't see why it needs S-OFF though :s Either way it's better to have it than not
