So I tried to root my Evo and now I think it's fubar'd, I try to restore it and get an error where it says that it does not have a or can't find the restore file. Also, when I try to run Unrevoked on my PC, Evo can't seem to find PCIM36 file.
Does anyone have an idea what I can do to fix this error? Help me please, I don't want to have return this awesome phone.
So I managed get the file reinstalled by locating and renaming it!

Hi all
I tried to root my evo (which had received the OTA 1.47.651.1 update already), but I've run into some problems...
I tried using the simpleroot OTA edition, but kept getting an error in step 3 where the script was unable to create a file in /data/app-cache/...
After that I tried the newly released unrevoked 3 method, which appeared to be working until near the end it rebooted the phone and said it was flashing the recovery, but the phone booted as normal and the program sat there saying it was flashing the recovery for >10min at which point I closed the program.
I was going to try one of the manual methods, but new when I boot into the HBOOT I get an error saying the main version is older, update failed. I've tried a couple different PC36IMG.zip files and all of them get the same error. And if I try to do a factory reset the phone just boots into the HBOOT screen and does nothing.
My phone can still boot normally and is usable except the camera will not turn on.
Can anyone try to help me fix my phone and get it rooted? Or at least restored to its original state?
Thanks in advance for any help!
ok scratch the camera part, after leaving the phone off for a bit and rebooting it appears to be working again... but the rest is still messed up
i had the same or similar problem because i had tried both root methods.
i got it to work with unrevoked 3 after:
1. removing pc36img.zip from the root of the SD card (apparently it'll always try to load a local image before attempting to connect to the PC)
2. uninstalling htc sync from the PC (others say this wasn't necessary, but it was definitely the step that allowed it to work successfully for me)
It turns out PDAnet also interferes with the driver accessing the evo.
Once i removed htc sync and pdanet both from my computer i was able to root my phone successfully.
not sure what the issue with simpleroot was though, but i didn't explore too deeply since unrevoked 3.1 worked now.
Man, that just saved the day for me! Thanks for the info about deleting the zip file.
hey I am having a similar proble with not being able to root. I tried all the stuff you guys suggested but it still wont work.
-i never installed htc sync or PDAnet
am i doing something wrong?

Are you trying to root Android 2.2 (Froyo)
Sent from HTC Evo 4g using XDA app
Android 2.2? I need to root so I can use the setcpu app. I'm not real tech savy but I know I tried all these methods and they didn't work. Am I doing something wrong
I wish I didn't have to come to this, but I have exhausted every other resource. I need help rooting my EVO. I had to use the new hack that uses a flash web app to root the phone. This was apparently successful, and in the terminal I have super user access. I even booted into fast boot and check the version to make sure I was rooted.
So my phone is rooted, and also cannot connect to 4G which I have not trouble shot yet, but I have heard that is common and there is a fix.
I installed ROM Manager, and it told me I should flash clockworkmod for a recovery drive. I click to install and then it tells me: "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!" I then clicked on "Fix Permissions" which then throws the same error as before. I am completely lost, and not sure what to do as of now.
If anyone could help that would be much appreciated. I can give you more details as to whats going on if you PM me,
or skype me: sanford787
Thanks in advance if anyone can help,
-Sanford

Did you try installing the ROM from the SD card?
EDIT: Also, you did extract the ROM from the compressed file first, right?
i downloaded the file unzipped it and tried to install it via active sync and get the error. when i try to do it the through the card it tells me there is no application associated with it run the application then open file.. i know that im just missing something but im at my witts end..thanks for responding
When you unzipped/unrar'd the ROM what files did you see? What are you clicking on?
rhodimg.nbh..click on this it unzips and says cant find file to open
rhodium software.... click on this it goes to rom update then says error code 240
Apart from the .nbh file, you need a CustomRUU.exe program to do the actual flashing. The .nbh file should not be extracted; it is the ROM image.
See this topic for a more detailed description.
even when i try to run the custom ruu still get error code 240..the only thing that i have done that didnt give me the code was the hrdspl and that worked just like the instructions said it would but everything else gives me the error.
ok got it figured out my buddy told me to download another zip tool and it works fine i guess that my winzip wasnt doing it right.. thanks for all the help i am grateful
I just tried to download DFS from www.cdmatool.com and i got a 404 error. Does anyone know where i can get this? I can get my phone replaced but i want to try to fix it first so i can learn how.
Edit never mind found it. i just went into the files on the site snd downloaded it.
I have read all of the topics on here and the rest of the internet and so far nothing seems to work, I soft-bricked my phone, I can boot into download and recovery fine, but even if i flash a old backup i cant get past the bootloop, Ive bricked my phone many times before and always recovered from it, but now if I run the LG Flash Tools I get a "failedPreviousLoad()" error, Ive even followed guides that i knew worked, is there something i am over looking? this is my only phone so i cannot afford to lose it, odd that it works halfway though. any help would be greatly appreciated
try uninstalling lg flash tool and removing all files associated with it (DO NOT GET RID OF THE TOT FILE)
then make sure there are no registery errors, after which, reboot your computer and reinstall the software like before.

EDIT: just tried after a reinstall and still same error, i took a screenshot, but i cant upload it here
i have even tried the support tools, but those require a kdz file and i read that the ls980 doesnt have one of those
