Azmer cases break very easily - EVO 4G Accessories

I bought one from Amazon, broke the first time I dropped it. I'll go look for the link to the case. Will update the thread when I do.

So, the case broke instead of the phone?
Sounds like it worked perfectly. It was a cheap eight bucks.
Perhaps you should shop for one with a neck lanyard.

LoL no, the case didn't work perfectly, it broke.
I have a gun case sitting next to me, it has whats called a rifle in it, If I drop the case, It doesn't break, does that mean my gun case is faulty because its supposed to break when I drop it? damn!
or how about my sunglass case, I just drop that, nope didn't break, hmmmm, let me try my laptop case...nope, still not in pieces.
guess its just your phone case thats supposed to break when you drop it, thats why when you drop otterbox's they disintegrate.

Chalk and cheese. You want to add the bulk around a cellphone that a rifle case puts around a weapon, or the space and padding a sunglasses case adds to a no-mass pair of glasses, you'll be set.
The snap-together cell cases are more for styling and scratchproofing the plastic. If you can stand the feel, and the difficulty it can add to pocket-sliding, you might try an Amzer Jelly case. But you know the damned phone will still manage to land face-down on the one stinking pebble that was within fifteen feet of you.
Or, go high-dollar for the Seidio cases that offer even more protection. And if you're going to be dropping phones, then no, you can't have a sip of my beer.

rocking the best buy plat case right now dropped it 20x and it hasnt broken yet, look, its not that complicated, these case's should not break, not unless they are pure trash.
all I can recomend is buying a not super cheap case thats the same fitment and you will have better luck, but dont tell me its made to break.
the product is just cheap garbage.
I will however say you get what you pay for.

Am I making a mistake?

I have been carrying the JJ around without a case now for over a week. It fits perfect in my shorts pocket, jeans pocket and in my suit coat so I just go without the case. I have the unit closed so the screen is protected and I am careful to not put keys or coins in the same pocket.
Do you think the JJ will hold up without becoming worn looking? Is anyone else doing the same thing?
I have had a ton of pda's, Palm, Sony, HP, Imate and I have always used a case but until I see one that doesnt add so much thickness to the unit I plan on just carrying it without a case. I hope I am not making a mistake. If the screen wasnt covered I would not be debating this.
BTW, I have a proporta case, very similar to the one sold for the JJ, I bought it for my old HP 6315 and it is nice and well made but THICK and adds way to much to any PDA. I hope Vaja makes a thin case but unfortunately it seems they do not make super thin cases anymore. They did years ago for the Sony Clie that had a rotating screen. It was great but more recent cases by them for example for my Ipod is too thick in my opinion.
Interested to hear your thoughts.
Darrin
I think it is a mistake. After the case for my previous pda broke I carried it without a case for a while, and a lot of accidents happened.
First of all, things fall out of pockets. Ok, if you have the right kind of pocket on a garment that is the right kind of fit, it may not in all likelihood, but with a $1000 gadget, I am not taking a chance.
Second, I always find things in pockets get banged around more. Things attached firmly to my belt don't.
When sitting down, it is hard to take it out of the pocket. So, you may decide to take it out before you site down and put it on the table. Then you are likely to forget it, or just go get a napkin at the Starbucks for 2 seconds. Sometimes it takes only 2 seconds.
Without a proper and definite place to put it (like a case on your belt) you are likely to put it in this pocket or that pocket one time or another. Just put it in your shirt pocket for a minute as you are gathering your things to get out, then bend over to tie your shoes. Happened to me more than once (although I still believe it was a subconscious attempt to break the old one to justify the new one).
I also think the proporta (or PDAir, or some other names, they all seem to be the same) book case is clumsy and thick, so I got the pouch case until a better choice comes out. Vaja is bound to make one.
Thanks for your thoughts, you make a lot of sense. I agree a lot of accidents can happen since its not attached to my belt in a case.
I would love to see more pics of the pouch case you mention. Are there any on the internet? Once you receive it I would love to hear what you think about it.
Darrin
This is the info about the case:
http://pdaden.com/shop/cart.php?target=product&action=view&product_id=17394&substring=jasjar
As you see it is the same case Proporta is selling, and is made by PDAir.
Someone posted pictures of their proporta case, and it said PDair on it too. So I am sure they are all the same case, but this one is half price.
They are shipping from HK, and charged me $8 to mail it to US.
Great, thank you for the link. I had only seen one picture of the case, that looks perfect. Lot of pics to really see case. I purchased some other cases from that retailer in the past. I was already registered.
I ordered one. Thanks again. This case looks like the best choice for now, maybe can be only case. Fits so close to body in picture, not even noticeable under a shirt or suit jacket.
Darrin
Haven’t ordered mine yet but when I do, its naked for me
I have had and XDA II for just over a year now and apart from a screen protector it went naked too. I work in an office so it lives on my desk all day. I try to be careful not to put keys in the same pocket when travelling but I don’t get paranoid about it. If it scratches, oh well, it will get replaced as soon as something better comes along

Sprint's BodyGlove looks promising...

Check out the review with some Q&A here...

As for this vs the Siedio case, I'm thinking this one is a bit thinner and would fit in my pocket easier.
wow like the bodyglove cover.whats the price? and can i buy one online?

It's 29.99 - and will be available at Sprint stores upon launch. You might be able to grab one now depending on how charismatic you are...
As for online, the online sprint store may be selling them - not sure, you'd have to check on the 4th.
Nice I like the look of that case and I just orderd the ghost armor case as you get the whole body armor for 14.99, the bodyglove might be better but I might use both, and then be covered for everything...
im usually not a fan of these type cases but i think ill grab it for the honeymoon period also
Will never get another body glove again. Their tabs break off all the time. Went through two of them in a month for my TP2.
damm i checked the sprint accessory online store and its not available yet i guess but ill b heading to the store to c if they got any before launch.so far got screen protector for the SUPERSONIC.
I've been searching online for the past couple of days for a case for my Evo. I really want this body glove case. I am going to stop by my Corporate Sprint Store tomorrow on my way to work to see if they have any and if they would let me buy one. I called them earlier last week about another matter and the store associate started talking about the Evo. When I told him I would have mine this past Friday he was shocked and wanted to see it. So maybe...and I mean maybe if I go up there show them my Evo and everything they may be nice and let me get one of the cases. Plus I have a Sprint Premier Account, so we'll see.

Has anyone had similar issues? Have you tried other cases? If so, what would you recommend for protection and as slim as possible...

YES! I've had the exact same results with the Samsung moment case, the front panel is held on by 4 small plastic tabs.
These tabs easily break off just by taking the case on and off. I replaced my case twice after giving up completely and going naked. I'll never buy Body Glove again.
I would be very careful with the Body Glove or Seidio cases. I bought the Seidio Innocase II and put it on my iPhone 3GS on day one. When I got it ready for sale a few days ago, I removed the case to find some scratches on the chrome bezel. The felt on the rear protected the back just fine. If they lined the entire case with it, then it would be good. The bezel on the Evo appears to be shiny plastic, so I would expect it to scratch even easier than the metal iPhone bezel.
I've tried other cases...

I have tried other cases, they are of the cheaper rubber cases that have this interlocking mechanism on top and bottom that were okay, the fit wasn't good but the cases were good. The unfortunate thing is that comparing a TP2 case with the Evo case is apples and oranges.
That IS until I saw that the Evo case is also a 2-piece snap on. If there is no sliding keyboard why then is it a two piece snap on and not a once piece hard case? The tabs break, pure and simple. If the reset button is under the back cover, every time you take off the back bodyglove cover, you risk breaking the tabs holding the case in place.
When I say I have gone through two bodyglove cases, I wasn't kidding. The thing looks good, until the case parts start randomly popping off because the tabs have broken off. Not really a protector then, is it?

Hmm, well thanks a lot guys, I've definitely changed my mind on this case. I'll probably go naked until Otterbox comes out with a case (in which case the honeymoon phase will be over, and I'll be more worried about long-term protection).

Give the Sprint Silicone Case a try. I got it and love it. It's nice and cheap especially with a 25% premier customer discount. It covers everything, slips on easy and comes off easy, good fit, and it actually makes the power button easier to hit and feel.
http://shop.sprint.com/NASApp/onlin...=Carry+&+Protect&selectedAccessoryID=CZH1980R
Its pretty nice. I have it and its decently built. Only structural issue I see is by the volume keys. But otherwise seems quite solid.
I like the look of the case, very cyber, but if it splits the longest way around the edge& is only held together with little tabs, I'd look elsewhere. On a one-piece phone with no moving parts there is no sense in it. I'm looking at the Seidio since it has the smallest seam, it goes around the middle, and is made to be held in holster. I don't like shoving phones in my pocket any way and especially not this giant thing. Second choice might be the Sprint one with multi colors or the silicone one.
I love my Evo body glove
I bought My body glove from the Dover, NH Sprint store from wireless link. The thing is amazing picked it up for $20 (special discount)
When I bought my evo, they had that body glove case at the store for $20. I got it, and I like it. It almost has an "iron man" type of look to it. The thing I liked about it was that it was thick enough to protect the camera, meaning when you laid it down, the camera didnt touch anything.
It is a pain in the butt to take off though. It has the back piece and then a really cheap-feeling front piece, and they clip together around the phone. Its hard to un-clip them at that point. I've already bent the hell out of the side of the front piece, but it still looks alright.
Regardless of that, I'd say its worth getting.
i have it like above mentioned feels cheap when taking on or off but when on its great protects camera lense i have no complaints so far i might be grabbing one of those 3500mah batteries so ill probably have to change sooner or later

[Q] Case Drop Protection

Hi, yes, it seems I'm too cheap to own an EVO. I really don't want to pay $25 for an Seidio Active even though they seem to currently be the best cases available. I'd like something with drop protection, but not sure of what actually offers it. I don't want to spend over $15 since I need two of them (wife and I).
Do the TPU cases offer any drop protection? What about the Amzer Silicone Jelly Skins?
Thanks for any help, I've done quite a bit of searching and haven't found much with regard to drop protection (even for the Active).
Has anyone dropped their phone with no case and had it survive, not that I'm considering no case, but was curious on durability of the phone in general.
I saw this on Amzer's site: http://www.amzer.com/Amzer-Simple-Click-On-Case-with-Screen-Protector-Rubberized-White-P88424.htm# but it doesn't seem to cover much of the top or side of the phone, guessing because it's hard and only one piece so there would be no way to get it on otherwise...
my phone definitely didn't survive a good drop.. roughly 5 ft to sidewalk. I turned into the most depressed drunk ever

Cracked glass or worse? Did it have a case on it?
I'm using one of the platinum cases from BB and a Clarivue screen protector. I dropped my phone from about 4 feet up, it hit the pavement and slid another 10 feet. The case is nicked a bit, but other than that the phone is great.
i would not say your to cheap to on an evo but its normal when you have a new phone come out for manufactures and retailers to up the price.

I went with the Epik TPU cases, I'm sure they are all basically the same, but I had read quite a few posts about those that liked it better than the other TPU cases. Plus was in no hurry since who knows when Sprint is going to have my EVOs available for me so ordering from Hong Kong was really cheap.
On launch day the only case I could get was the gel case from the sprint store. I have dropped my phone getting out of the car, was sitting on my lap and forgot! Seems I always do that... anyway I did survive was only about a 3' drop to the pavement and landed on the corner phone survived without a mark. I'm sure I got lucky though cuz it hit the corner. If it would have fallen on the screen it most likely would have been replaced. So while the gels do offer some protection it really matters how they land! Do yourself a favor and decide for youself how much protection you need so you can't blame someone else for not telling you the right one to get. After all you did spend 200 on the phone! What's another 25 to protect it.
I don't really disagree with you, but my wife is on edge already about us getting them... Originally only I was going to get one, then she played with one at the Sprint store and said she wanted one too... She normally just gets free phones... So we start adding up the accessories we need and she's like 'wow', of course. I already told her to be prepared for the first bill because it's basically 2 months, which is mainly why I think she's so uptight about getting so many accessories at the moment.

There are videos of the bb and ipad.
But honestly, what's ur alternative?
Almost 100 bucks? Now I need a case to protect my Otterbox.
i have one of this case from Kevikev http://kevikev.com/addtocart.sc it only cost be abot $35 back when i got it. believe it or not it is a lot more of a professional looking case and very stylish. i can walk into work with it, or even church. with the otterbox case i'll look like a construction worker. or someone who work with a lot of kids and don't want my xoom to damage. and honestly i don't see the extra protection in the otterbox case. cuz i won't be droping my xoom anytime soon. and so the case is mainly to serve as a stand and a jacket for the device. not a bullet proof.
i also just came across this from the walmart site. it actually look similar to otterbox, obviously not as strong from the looks of it, but design wise it is very similar without the hard screen cover/stand for the otterbox. check it out, if i do seem to find more information on it, i'll give it a try, they also do a free site to store, so yo can pick it up at your local walmart for free. and it only cost $14. maybe a couple dollars extra for tax. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Amzer-Transparent-Jelly-Case-for-Motorola-XOOM-Black/16539974

If you're fine with putting a $600+ tablet in a standard folio case just because you're worried about what people with think when they see you with it, then have at it. Personally I want a case to PROTECT my device and I don't care what other people think about it's appearance. It's known that the otterbox cases add a little bit to the size, but the protection they are known to afford the devices make up for that.
I had a standard plastic shell case on my phone and after I dropped it onto asphalt getting into my truck one day it broke apart. The phone was undamaged so I was lucky. I got an otterbox case after that and I don't freak out now if I drop the phone (which I have a few times) because I know it's not going to get damaged. I have the standard motorola folio case and have been waiting for this one to come out so I can stop worrying about dropping my xoom. I'm not going to buy it from otterbox though because I know I can get it cheaper elsewhere.
The one from walmart is just a silicone case. The otterbox is a polycarbonate shell with a silicone case around it. BIG difference there in the protection. Even in the name is says "transparent JELLY case".

i obviously bought my case becasue i like it. not becasue someone said to buy it. you seem to have miss the point. by stating that the case is a professional and stylish case was my opinion based on my needs. and for my job, the otterbox case is just not going to cut it, also my opinion. and FYI, the cases i have do "PROTECT"t my device so it wouldn't matter what people say including you. my point that the case will me look like a construction worker, was also my opinion. becasue it goes to fact that if i work consruction i would want the extra protection. i don't drop my xoom, like you have. so the extra wight and looks is not my style.
otterbox cases was made for folks who want maxumum protection, i for one had an otterbox case when i had an iphone. it was worth it then, becasue i could drop my phone often. but my XOOM will not be tasting the floor anythime soon, becasue i am very carefull with it. unlike a phone i have no reason to have it on my lap when driving and will never forget it's on my lap before i get out of the car, i have made that mistake with my phone several time.
as for the case on walmart, i was just giving an alternative for a cheaper case for those who will want otterbox but can't spend that much. that's why it's cal;l alternative. it cost less, and it will obviously not be the same as the otterbox case. as i said in that post it looks similar in design, but obviously not the same strenght. otterbox do have their customer market, like you. which is not a bad thing, it's just not a one size fit all. some people like me don't have the need for an otterbox case, because i also bought my xoom the looks. i like how it feels and it's design. so i want to enjoy that.
that's why i laught when i see people with the ipad2, saying it is so light and thin, but they have it cover in an otterbox case that makes it looks and feels like the original ipad.to me it;s like why did you buy it based on how thin it was, only to put it ina bullet proof jacket. and i mean let;s face it, a couple yes from now, when there is a xoom 2 or even xoom 3, you know you'll be wanting to get that one as well. and will likey pass this on to someone or sell it. technology is leap year ahead. so there will always be the next generation product.
otterbox did build a name for themselve with good quality product. it was popular with alot of people, mostly teenager, who don't want their summer paycheck to go in breeze with one drop. so ennjoy your otterbox case my friend, i was just stating my opinion, i wasn't dogging otterbox. it's just not a one size fit all. and some people like me bought my xoom for the look as well as the brain. and looks does matter in the tech world. that's why everyone want to make the pretty phones, thin, big screen, shiney cover, and all tht good stuff.
i bet you won't be buying a old IBM laptop over an HP or Apple. cuz you want the pretty choice not the big and bulky IBM. you want the thin and lightweight next generation laptop. same thing with cars and just about everything else. so let's face it looks matters. and it's not about how others view it, it's about how you will like it, cuz you the one that's gonna spend the most time with it.

Your exact words were "i can walk into work with it, or even church. with the otterbox case i'll look like a construction worker. or someone who work with a lot of kids and don't want my xoom to damage". That says you don't want it because it will make you LOOK "like a construction worker" to your coworkers and church members. If you don't care, then it shouldn't matter.
i don't drop my xoom, like you have. so the extra wight and looks is not my style.

I never said I dropped my Xoom. I've dropped my cell phone and there have been times where I've worried about dropping my Xoom, but I have never ACTUALLY dropped it. My point is that if it offers more protection I could care less if other people (including yourself) think it would make me look like a "construction worker". I've never received those opinions about my phone and I doubt anyone would make the same opinion about my Xoom were it in an otterbox. Now, if it had bright yellow markings on it and was much heftier than it is, I could see someone saying it looked like it belonged on a construction site.

I don't see how something that is completely different from the otterbox would be an alternative to it. That's like saying any other case out there on the market is an alternative to the otterbox. Sure they may be alternatives to "cases" in general, but they're not good alternatives to the otterbox unless they are similar in design. Now if you linked to a cheaper shell case with a silicone outer case instead of just a simple silicone case, there would be no argument that it would be an alternative to the otterbox.
otterbox do have their customer market, like you. which is not a bad thing, it's just not a one size fit all. some people like me don't have the need for an otterbox case, because i also bought my xoom the looks. i like how it feels and it's design. so i want to enjoy that.

Which is the same reason someone buys an iPad. I bought mine for function over form. You can take a piece of **** and put a pretty bow on it and it's still going to be a piece of ****. The Xoom, on the other hand, is a pretty slick device inside and out so even if you buy it because of "the looks" then you're still getting a good device.
that's why i laught when i see people with the ipad2, saying it is so light and thin, but they have it cover in an otterbox case that makes it looks and feels like the original ipad.to me it;s like why did you buy it based on how thin it was, only to put it ina bullet proof jacket. and i mean let;s face it, a couple yes from now, when there is a xoom 2 or even xoom 3, you know you'll be wanting to get that one as well. and will likey pass this on to someone or sell it. technology is leap year ahead. so there will always be the next generation product.

I couldn't agree more with this statement
otterbox did build a name for themselve with good quality product. it was popular with alot of people, mostly teenager, who don't want their summer paycheck to go in breeze with one drop. so ennjoy your otterbox case my friend, i was just stating my opinion, i wasn't dogging otterbox. it's just not a one size fit all. and some people like me bought my xoom for the look as well as the brain. and looks does matter in the tech world. that's why everyone want to make the pretty phones, thin, big screen, shiney cover, and all tht good stuff.

I for one know that when my daughter gets old enough to have a cell phone she will have an otterbox on it. My wife is pretty clumsy and I have a bad feeling my daughter will be the same way. lol
i bet you won't be buying a old IBM laptop over an HP or Apple. cuz you want the pretty choice not the big and bulky IBM. you want the thin and lightweight next generation laptop. same thing with cars and just about everything else. so let's face it looks matters. and it's not about how others view it, it's about how you will like it, cuz you the one that's gonna spend the most time with it.

Actually I wouldn't buy any of those, but I wouldn't buy an "old" anything. I would never consider buying an apple laptop because they charge too much for what you actually get, and I have never really liked hp laptops. Even IBM knows that lighter is better because laptops are more portable as ever these days and with competition between laptops/netbooks/tablets they have to keep up. Their new lenovo laptops aren't the big ol bricks they used to be. I buy for the purpose I need it for. If I'm going to have a laptop I never take away from the house I would go for something like an alienware or XPS system that aren't the lightest things in the world, but they're powerful. When I was in the military I had a panasonic toughbook and loved it. Damn thing was almost bulletproof just on it's own. I would prefer to have the whole package of form AND function, but if I had to choose between an old datsun 280Z that ran like a dream and a brand new nissan Z that could barely go into gear/had no stereo/transmission falling apart I would go for the 280z that ran. I will choose function over form any day as long as it gets the job done.
My last post was a little off topic, so to be a litter more ON-topic XD if they sold a commuter case as well I would be all over it. For anyone that doesn't know the difference, the commuter case has the silicone around the device and the poly shell on the outside instead of the other way around with the defender. It seems like the commuter cases are only made for phones though.
lol..you are such a fun guy to chat with. you broke it all down. which i like. however to all your point as stated it is simply opinion. by me saying i can walk into work or church is my opinion. and i'll say this otterbox on a phone doesn't look bad, becasue of the form factor. it is small and not as obvious as it would be on a xoom. that's why i can quickly pick u when someone has an ipad2 with the bullet proof jacket on. and so you might not have gotten the construction worker comment, becasue people wont say that to you, especially after when they don't know the device you have. ie. i have had aye people as me if my xoom was the ipad. the look on my face usually answer the question.
but i'll tell you man, when i see the otterbox on a tablet (so far only the ipad i've seen) it reminds me of constructon worker doing survey in the field, and that's just a picture in my head, which i not a bad thing i should say. there is nothing agains construction worker. it could easily be one of those at&t workers on a poll connecting telephone wires, or a comcast cable guy doing connection test. those are the target market for otterbox. not that they don't appreciate you the regular folk buying their product. but they are targetting a different market with those bullet proof jacket.
Otterbox
Got my otterbox for xoom and installed it:
Pros:
Great protection
can dock without removing case
access to power button with and without outtershell attached.
well built
can power without removing from case
ports are wellsealed
Cons:
the outer shell design adds too much thickness via excess space (see comparison pic between iPad I and Xoom Otterbox case.
Outer shell squishy due to excess space.(poor design)
1st pic outer shell on Xoom. So much space you can see through it
2d pic outer shell on iPad nice and sleek (looks good)
3rd pic side by side comparison

Any ideas how you would redesign it to remove the excess space? I'm assuming that space was put there on purpose to accommodate for something else.
i think the space is to prevent any damage to the screen by scratching. because the cover has parts that prop it up to make a stand. that could be a reason. but i don't have one, so i can't be sure. but we'll find out soon.

Mine came in already, just wish I was home to unpack it. I'll update you guys tomorrow night.

Rockin' a case, or running naked?

Was just wondering if you guys are or are not using a case, holster, ect. for your phone.
if your are using one if you could say which one and maybe some pros/cons, how you like it type of stuff.
I'm currently waiting on the otter box commuter to arrive, I had the incipio case much like the commuter and loved it but felt the commuter would add the extra protection I need.
Naked. I can't find a good case for my Dinc2 with ext battery.

Case. Really like the new kickstand Verizon case. Sits the phone up AND awesome holder for the finger when using it. Doesnt protect the whole phone though so Im going with the eBay Griffin Reveal look alike for now.

Naked, for the same reason.
I'm going nude also. I roll with a naked Dinc2 because the slimness was one of the reasons I chose this phone, and since it is on my works company plan, if anything does happen to it I will get a new one no charge (to me that is, my company may get hit with a bill).
Has anybody tried the body glove for the Inc2.

Running naked. I don't like how cases bulk up the phone. Haven't run with a case for many years now across several devices without incident, and my devices have survived numerous drops.
I have the silicone one from the verizon store naked feels too slippery to me i'm afraid its going to slip out of my hand on the subway. Its doing pretty good. dropped it once on the stairs in the subway and its still fine. the only thing that bothers me is sometimes i have to take the case off to use the headphones jack. can anyone recommend another one? (i like silicone cause it lets me get a good grip on it. too afraid i'd drop it otherwise)
Anybody check out the TPU cases for this phone? I also admire the slimness of the DInc2 and was thinking about this as an alternative to both hard and silicone cases.
Cheap on Amazon too.
EDIT...nvm saw the TPU thread down below. Definitely getting one!
Using the Incipio two piece case half the time, the other half running naked just for the slimness of the phone
Naked.
Look at this phone. It's basically already wearing a case. I mean, I know accidents happen but I feel like this phone was designed to not need one.
I have the otterbox defender series and love it. Adds a lot of bulk if your not into that.
Would love to get there extended battery if they would get a case to fit it.

once you scratch that aluminum in the front though you will be sorry. even WITH a case I dropped my phone in between my dashboard in my car and my seat and it scratched the aluminum so I had a nice long scratch of the aluminum. sucks.

Aluminum? On the earpiece grill? That's the only part I can think of that you're referring to...
the whole front is aluminum from what i saw from the scratch. it sure isn't plastic..
the entire casing besides the back case,, give it a run with ur finger nail, once that starts chipping, or you scratch it you will see what i mean, i could be way off with the aluminum but it sure isnt plastic like inc1

It is something close to aluminum or other soft metal, at least that's what I thought. I also scratched the edge of mine just taking off a mobi hard plastic case I bought. Didn't take much at all to make a scratch.
Now, the back is plastic but made to feel the same as the front but I'm pretty sure it's not.

I agree 100%.
if it's the hard gel case from verizon, I bought mine the day it came out, it was the only gel case they had, but they gave me a full refund as there was a Tech Bulliten out fromm what I read here on the forusms, no receipt or anything and it was a diff store and got my money back so I was happy, cmae home and ordered an ottterbox. sucks just from a case the potential for damage is there. hopefully in a few months we don't have a bunch of complaints about this. I returned my scratched device for a refurb. no charge. told them it happened with a case on it. they had no prblem with refurbing it.
Using a cheap TPU case off Amazon for now. Waiting to find that "perfect" case for my prem-case.
I wish they made these for the DInc2. I would pay big bucks for that.

wood? I wonder how well that would protect that. personally I would never put that on my phone. but it's cool. I am awaiting on the otter box commuter to arrive on Tuesday, and I can say from experience, that otter box is very well made cases, and come with a screen protector if you're into that.. I don't use them, but I will give pictures and a review once the case comes and I use it for a day or two. high quality case, can get it cheap on amazon, and great brand name, that isn't bulky. they also make a defender case, which isn't my style but looks like a truck could run over it and be fine lol.

Yeah, I used the Seidio for my Eris, and I am considering it for my DInc2. Never been real hot on the Otterbox look, though I haven't seen one in person. I like my cases low profile and simple looking. Maybe I'll meet an Otterbox one day and fall in love.
I don't even care if the wood case broke the first time I dropped it. If I could find a good one I would rock that thing like hobos rock trench coats and buy another if it broke.
I wood pay more for the case than I would the phone.
