Hi all,
I was preparing my Desire for a LeeDroids ROM and was about to partition the SD card. I pressed back up current ROM by accident and the phone switched itself off. Now i cant seem to get it up and running again.
I have tried to enter recovery mode but nothing seems to happen. Does the process of getting to the exclaimation mark screen (where you press and hold vol up and press power) take long? All i see is the white HTC screen followed by a little black band at the top of the screen and then nothing.
Am i being impatient and is there any way of sorting this out?
Thanks in advance

Take the Sd card out and see if it boots. If it does its the partition on the sd card needs doing again.
Yeah i sorted it - thanks for your reply.
I am still having a bit of trouble loading a custom ROM though - the zip folder is definately on the root of the SD card but every time i try to boot to the recovery screen the same thing happens. I get the htc screen - a black line at the top followed by either a freeze or a reset that means the handset can only be restarted if you take the battery out for a few seconds

I think...flash a original rom from your provider or from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
and flash unrevoked 3 (recovery)..
make a ext3 using rom manager from market
and then flash a new radio...and rom
edit: unrevoked

and a (german) instruction with pictures

Thanks very much for your detailed reply Alex-V.
To be honest though i would even know which ROM to choose out of all of those. I've read that people have been unsuccessful due to HBOOT version incompatibility etc so i wouldnt know where to start
These are the details i have recovered from the bootloader menu
Bravo PVT3 Ship S-ON
HBOOT - 0.83.0001
Radio 4.08.00.09
My phone is unbranded and unlocked so no tie to any network but Orange UK is my provider.
I have seen other threads where there are different RUU's for different HBOOT versions but i havent come across any for 0.83 just 0.80 & 0.75
0.83 ...
Is your screen SLCD or AMOLED?
I would be very careful with 0.83. Search around there are a few threads specifically for 0.83. Sorry I can't help much as I don't follow them except that some 0.83 come with SLCD and quite a few people got their desire messed up. It's been fixed. So read around first.
I was under the impression that my screen was AMOLED and had seen something briefly about the SLCD problem elsewhere, but if i'm honest i didnt realise that some desires had different screens (how can you tell the difference). Didnt really have chance to read it properly though so i will go back and have a look.
Like you say i havent seen too much info on the 0.83 HBOOT.
I appreciate your help

Hi guys,
first time poster but long time follower.
Last night i attempted to load the stock 3 UK rom onto my desire so that i could recieve the ota update today of froyo but now my screen is completly blank. It shows nothing at boot up and nothing when on the home screen. I know it's on because i can see the keypad light up when i press the power button. I can't boot it into recovery mode because i can't see the screen. Also i don't have a gold card neither so im pretty stuck. I believe it has something to do with different version of screens but i didn't see anything labelled on the rom to say which is for what screen. My desire has the AMOLED screen. Please can someone help i've tried allsorts but i need to get it fixed or i may try to return it at three but im guessing they'll know i've rooted it. Thanks in advance.

hold the volume key down and power button and hold till phone powers up. if your phone is rooted and has a custom recovery u can boot into that and flash rom.
I bet you have a slcd screen. Look for slcd brick fixed.

I can't because i can't see if it's gone into the recovery menu or not.
I had this problem too, you can fix it tho.
Start the phone as usual, install HTC Sync first, then connect it to your phone via USB.
Download the HTC Bravo stock rom from shipped-roms, and then just run the .exe file, it will reflash the stock android OS and your screen will be fixed.

I am having the same problem guys. i tried to unroot and reflash with a stock virgin mobile ruu... would i use the bravo rom too?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821656
as long as you can get to recovery (even if you can't see it), you should be able to fix it.
i fixed my phone fine when I tried to install a wrong amoled ruu and bricked my screen.
my solution in the thread above
Repaired
You try reflash your HTC Desire this ROM RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe. Me helped it.
I just got this HTC Desire(2.2, root) and played around and I'm afraid I bricked it ): the phone's screen stays black till now. Please please help me out.
Here is what I copied from the screen before fooling around:
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.09.05.30_2
Aug 10 2010,17:52:18
There was only one file PB99IMG.zip on my TF card(8g, FAT32, one partition, the original file name is
PB99IMG_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed_txt.zip ).
I booted to fastboot mode and selected recovery from the menu and after the zip file was checked up I pressed button volume+. The phone's screen went black at once and it seemed totally dead. I waited a while and unloaded the battery and put it back. The phone wouldn't boot to fastboot anymore. Pushing power and whatever button doesn't help. The screen stays black. If I just push the power button only, the phone vibrates and after a while I can hear startup music just like it's normal except the screen is black. However, the music is looped with silent gaps.
Is my phone totally dead? Is there anyway to save the phone? What should I do?
Guys, please help me out. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks.
You've flashed an AMOLED RUU on an SLCD Desire...big mistake
Get the PB99IMG for 2.29.405.2, put that on the SD card and turn it on holding the volume down key. Leave it about 5 minutes and then press volume up and leave it. Assuming it takes you'll reboot into stock 2.29.405.2 and should be up and running.
This obviously assumes you actually have an unbranded Desire

Fabulous, searching and reading would have worked too. EddyOS must be a saint for still answering to questions that have been asked thousands of times. Pollution is bad, hmkay.

Whereas I definitely agree that searching has to be done it was easier just to say what to do in this case in the hope people in future find the information.
Other days I won't be so nice
my desire is with 4 triangles at the corner ,i use jtag n run but still same, flash Ruu roms but with a lot of error, any idea to help?.thks
Dear XDA developers,
a few days ago my internet connection started to fail so i decided to normally reboot my HTC desire by using the power button. After the restart it kept rebooting and showing the AlphaRev boot screen. I decided to reflash the phone by using a standard RUU. I tought it all worked out well, untill it crashed at 99%.
When i press the power button, the phone starts a continiuous vibration and shows a black (blanc) screen. I can not enter the bootloader / fastboot / recovery. It seems to react on nothing. I tryed to charge it, in case it was a battery issue, but no luck and no charging led.
I was running Leedroid + root + s-off with H-Boot 0.93.
On the XDA forum i found a way to blindly access the bootloader if there is no screen, this is not working out either.
Can someone help me out? Or is it ready to throw away? Besides that, is it possible to send it for guarantee? Or would there still be rooted/custom rom footsteps on the device?
it sounds like u flashed the wrong ruu. theres 2 types
amoled
or slcd
find out which ur phone is and flash that ruu
I will try but the computer does not recognize the device. Keep you updated.
edit:
Don't think this has anything to do with the screen. On the forum i found a topic with a trick (blind navigating to the recovery screen), but i think nothing happens when i follow this steps.
Maybe the HBOOT got fubar'd. If that's the case, your phone may be bricked. Take it to HTC for a look-see.
alpharev.nl said:
Is there any risk involved?
Yes, there is. Flashing HBOOT will flash a critical part of your phone, if that gets corrupted, your phone WILL be bricked.

Do you think the warrenty will void if i send it for repair? Because there hase been a custom ROM and bootloader installed?
Hi there.
My partner recently tried to update his HTC one m8 Telstra phone. The screen got stuck on "android is upgrading" starting apps. With a little blue loading circle going round and round. Eventually his phone went flat and now the phone will not load past the HTC one powered by android screen. Have tried pressing volume - and power button to go into boot loader and the same thing happens. If I select recovery a little red triangle appears. Have wiped cache. Still no change. If I do factory reset, it goes through the process of "optimizing apps" and then gets stuck on android is upgrading screen etc.
My partner is even more technologically ignorant that I am so he has never done any back ups or anything .
SD card slot does not work (as he ran over his phone last year) however phone has functioned normally for the most part, up until he attempted to update. Please help if possible.
If it is not hardware problem .. only possible to fix it if the bootloader is unlocked.
Why ? because there is no Telstra RUU available, you can only fix it with a nandroid backup
To get to bootloader, press & hold both power + volume up buttons until the screen turns black, release both buttons and press & hold volume down button only to get to hboot. Then select "fastboot" on the menu to get to bootloader screen.
Can you tell what's written on bootloader ? Is it LOCKED, UNLOCKED or RELOCKED ?
Thank you for replying.
Ok so firstly, how do I tell if it's a hardware problem.?
Secondly, although the phone displays a Telstra icon upon startup, my Optus SIM card, well any carrier SIM card really, works in the phone, therefore would it be possible to use another RUU? (What on earth is an RUU?) And nandroid??? Please explain what all these terms mean, if you don't mind of course.
Because his phone screen is damaged from running over it last year, it is hard to see all the information. I'm fairly certain it is still S-on though. Is there any way I could view the boot loader details on a laptop?
I have tried the fastboot option and it still returns to HTC one screen.
How do I get a nandroid back up? Is the phone at all fixable in your opinion? I don't believe it's hard bricked from what I've managed to learn so far, though I could be wrong, as it still goes through the cycle of "optimizing apps" and attempts to start apps after selecting factory reset in boot loader.
I apologise for my lack of knowledge and ignorance on this matter and I appreciate all your help
A lot of your questions are answered here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52484527
I don't say it is really hardware problem, I say if it is not then it is fixable by restoring correct software.
That's why it is important to get to bootloader because most info are available there.
I want you to give the details of what's written there before I can guide you further.
Those details will tell whether that's a Telstra device, whether the device was rooted which may explain the problem and so on.
If you can't get the right button combination works as I mentioned above, then you need to switch it off (maybe let the battery runs out), charge it for a few hours. Take out from charger then press & hold volume down (read again above I mentioned volume up & volume down because which volume button is important) then connect to PC or charger (this comes after you press & hold volume down button not before)
No bootloader .. not possible to fix (unless it is send to HTC centre)
I am able to get to the boot loader screen (I googled so much before posting on here) but most of the information is blacked out due to the screen being wrecked. I will try and gather as much information from what I can see and post here when I get home and I will also try and upload a picture.
Do you have any advice on how I would determine if the issue is due to hardware?
I will provide further information shortly and once again I'm am sincerely grateful for all your help.
Not easy to know it's a hardware issue when it is still can boot-up but bootloop.
hard brick means no response at all (still sometime it is due to no battery)
Ok so here a few photos of the boot loader screen, the fast boot screen and the recovery mode screen. Please bear in mind a lot of (possibly vital) information is not viewable due to screen damage that happened last year.
The most important detail that I need to know is not visible there.
Really need to know whether the bootloader is LOCKED, UNLOCKED or RELOCKED because that portion is blank out with the damage screen.
What you can try ... while on fastboot/bootloader screen (your pic #1), try to install TWRP recovery
Download TWRP 2.8.7.0 from here : https://dl.twrp.me/m8/
Make sure your PC has the required drivers, ADB/fastboot - if not sure, install these :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926362&postcount=4
After connecting the device to PC, install the TWRP recovery with command :
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.7.0-m8.img
advise the outcome, if it successful then it is easier to fix the problem.
Ok thanks. I'll download those things and then try that. From what I've learnt so far, I'm pretty certain the boot loader is locked. He got the phone brand new and has done nothing further than change his ringtone, screen display and lock screen. He's worse at technological stuff than I am lol.
Hallo everyone!
my old HTC Desire (Bravo) seems to be bricked. When I turn on the device, it appears the HTC Logo, then the screen turns only black. I have been trying to remove the battery for some minutes and put it on again, trying to go in the recovery mode (vol down and power on togheder for 10 seconds) but it doesn't work, it just shows the HTC Logo and then black screen.
The device is rooted, if I remeber correctly there's a Cyanogen Mod installed.
There's anything that I can do, or he's dead? :crying:
Have you tried the troubleshooting guide stickied to the top of Q&A?
If you don't have any crucial data on the phone, I would try and find the 2.3.3 WWE RUU to flash, research the PB99IMG.zip method.

Thanks, I have been looking at the stickied thread only right now, but I'm afraid that I don't know how to categorize my HTC Desire problem.
I have no important data on the Phone, and I can reset everything without problems. I have been trying PB99IMG Method , I could install the PB99IMG.zip in the SD Card without problems, but as before, the volume down and power button togheder doesn't work, it just show the HTC Logo and the black screen, so I can't get access to the fastboot/recovery mode
Bump, any idea?
