Desire: no boot constant vibration - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear XDA developers,
a few days ago my internet connection started to fail so i decided to normally reboot my HTC desire by using the power button. After the restart it kept rebooting and showing the AlphaRev boot screen. I decided to reflash the phone by using a standard RUU. I tought it all worked out well, untill it crashed at 99%.
When i press the power button, the phone starts a continiuous vibration and shows a black (blanc) screen. I can not enter the bootloader / fastboot / recovery. It seems to react on nothing. I tryed to charge it, in case it was a battery issue, but no luck and no charging led.
I was running Leedroid + root + s-off with H-Boot 0.93.
On the XDA forum i found a way to blindly access the bootloader if there is no screen, this is not working out either.
Can someone help me out? Or is it ready to throw away? Besides that, is it possible to send it for guarantee? Or would there still be rooted/custom rom footsteps on the device?

it sounds like u flashed the wrong ruu. theres 2 types
amoled
or slcd
find out which ur phone is and flash that ruu

I will try but the computer does not recognize the device. Keep you updated.
edit:
Don't think this has anything to do with the screen. On the forum i found a topic with a trick (blind navigating to the recovery screen), but i think nothing happens when i follow this steps.

Maybe the HBOOT got fubar'd. If that's the case, your phone may be bricked. Take it to HTC for a look-see.
alpharev.nl said:
Is there any risk involved?
Yes, there is. Flashing HBOOT will flash a critical part of your phone, if that gets corrupted, your phone WILL be bricked.
[...]
If your phone no longer turns on anymore, please return to HTC for warranty purposes.

Do you think the warrenty will void if i send it for repair? Because there hase been a custom ROM and bootloader installed?

[Q] HTC Desire blank screen after stock update

Hi guys,
first time poster but long time follower.
Last night i attempted to load the stock 3 UK rom onto my desire so that i could recieve the ota update today of froyo but now my screen is completly blank. It shows nothing at boot up and nothing when on the home screen. I know it's on because i can see the keypad light up when i press the power button. I can't boot it into recovery mode because i can't see the screen. Also i don't have a gold card neither so im pretty stuck. I believe it has something to do with different version of screens but i didn't see anything labelled on the rom to say which is for what screen. My desire has the AMOLED screen. Please can someone help i've tried allsorts but i need to get it fixed or i may try to return it at three but im guessing they'll know i've rooted it. Thanks in advance.

hold the volume key down and power button and hold till phone powers up. if your phone is rooted and has a custom recovery u can boot into that and flash rom.
I bet you have a slcd screen. Look for slcd brick fixed.

I can't because i can't see if it's gone into the recovery menu or not.
I had this problem too, you can fix it tho.
Start the phone as usual, install HTC Sync first, then connect it to your phone via USB.
Download the HTC Bravo stock rom from shipped-roms, and then just run the .exe file, it will reflash the stock android OS and your screen will be fixed.

I am having the same problem guys. i tried to unroot and reflash with a stock virgin mobile ruu... would i use the bravo rom too?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821656
as long as you can get to recovery (even if you can't see it), you should be able to fix it.
i fixed my phone fine when I tried to install a wrong amoled ruu and bricked my screen.
my solution in the thread above
Repaired
You try reflash your HTC Desire this ROM RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe. Me helped it.

stuck on start up screen. cant do anything.

Ok, I have been looking for a solution to my problem, without any solution so far. I temp-rooted my phone with visionary. As soon as I rebooted my phone, the furthest I could get is the HTC load screen. I have set up every zip I could find in hopes that one would let me set my phone back to operational status. Nothing is working. Does anyone know what I can do to get back. If you need more information, please let me know.
Try the Q&A forum, which is the right place for questions like this
Can you get into recovery or fastboot? Try holding down the volume button while holding down power when powering on. Also, try holding the action button while holding the power button while powering on. If nothing happens then your almost out of luck. If you get fastbook (white screen with multicolored text as opposed to recoveries one color and black screen) you can adb push a rom onto your phone and fix it.
I didn't have a problem with visionary but I think my phone was rooted when I got it.

I am s-on. or at least I was. I have been following the link you sent me, but I cant do anything because it is constantly saying the device is offline. it was an ota g2.
Can you get into hboot ? With the phone off, hold Volume Down then press Power.
If you can get into hboot then at least you can flash a ROM from your SD card.
If you can get into recovery from hboot, then you can use adb from there, but you can't use adb if the phone is stuck at the startup logo.
Sometimes it seems that if you go into the stock recovery (when you see the screen with the red triangle, hold Volume Up and then press Power), you can try mounting everything you can to see if that makes a difference to being able to boot.

ADB will not connect to my phone. It recognizes it, but says it is offline. How can I fix that issue?
I had the exact same problem and fixed it. Go into your hboot mode and do a factory reset from the phone.....I was stuck in a boot loop. I think I was s off at the time

You still not have awnsered any questions from the above posts. Can you get into the HBoot screen (phone off, then volume-down+power)? If yes what does the first line say on the page with the skateboarding andriods? It should say VISION PVT SHIP(orENG) S-OFF(or S-ON)? What does it say?

adb won't work while the phone is stuck in the boot loop, I said that you need to get into recovery to be able to use adb. But as joemm said, we still need you to try the other stuff that you haven't commented on, i.e. getting into hboot in the first place.
S-ON with Vision PVT SHIP
This shouldnt be happening if he was just using a temp root. It might cause instability while the phone is on, but once it turns off the root is gone, the software is reset. Did you attempt to perm root with visionary? also, if he isnt rooted, the phone will be able to recover itself easily from the boot recovery. unless he doesnt have an sdcard with the recovery on it. also this all means that if he isnt perma rooted, he wont have a custom recovery.
Anyways, Pull the battery, press the powerbutton while holding the VOLUME DOWN key, use the volume keys to select recovery after it performs the test, and select restore phone or whatever it says in the orig recovery.
edit: dont forget to put the battery back in before you turn it on.

the version of visionary that I had (r10) doesnt have the perm root option. Does visionary automatically update?
no visionary was taken off the market after version 10? i think. you'd need to have downloaded visionary from somewhere else to get version 11 or higher with the perm root. is the stock recovery working at all for you?
I don't believe it does. Updates were through different releases all the way to r14.

[Q] Freeze on hboot

Hi, i just bought a cheap Desire thinking, that i can repair it myself. Nothing I try works. Im starting to be desperate. I found an older thred (died about a year ago), but nothing is solved there, so i just copy the problem described there (mine is exactly the same).
- phone doesnt boot up, it is stuck to a screen showing htc
- no access to recovery or bootloader menus (by holding power + vol down/back)
- installing stock RUUs with hboot dont work. there is a progress bar on the phone's screen that is normally green, but turns red when the radio is being written
- fastboot oem boot restarts the phone, but then it gets stuck to the white screen having htc in the middle (like when you start up the phone and after this quietly brilliant shows under htc, for me it doesnt go beyond this initial point)
- fastboot reboot-bootloader restarts the phone into the same screen with htc in the middle
- adb doesnt work as it doesnt show my device
- any power + vol down/back combination brings the phone to the htc screen
Any suggestions to get my desire unbricked?
Thanks for any help!
Sounds bad, but did you tried to flash recovery with fastboot if that worked eventually you could be able to flash custom ROM.
Also have you tried flashing radio, probably won't work but worth trying.

Looks like a radio brick. Possibly only HTC can fix this.

Do you think they can fix it in an non HTC service? I dont have a warranty.
Why no warranty?
They usually swap the motherboard and then flash the nand and nvram to re use your motherboard for someone else

[Q] G2 won't power on! Please assist!

Hello fellow G2 users.. my G2 phone won't turn on ... I had it rooted for a few months running Sense 2.1 and 3.0 roms then last night I tried going back to stock because the roms kept freezing and causing all sort of problems.. wifi failure, fc prompts.. ok, I had hboot for the desire z then I tired going back to hboot for the g2 ever sense then the phone refuses to turn on and there's only a orange light flashing and sometimes stays still.. please help.. I don't know what to do.. when I try loading boot loader volume down and power nothing happens..
I'm not an ace but bootloader should work, how long are you holding the power button? Does plugging it charge it? Is the battery dead, it have you pulled it? Does ADB see the phone at all? Have you checked the guide you were following?
30 seconds.. I held the power button for 30 seconds it worked before.. now it's not turning on or going into boot loader. . when plugged in it flashes orange.. I pulled the battery out and put it back in and nothing happens just keeps flashing orange.. my computer doesn't' recognize the phone anymore.. I don't know what's going on..
30 second with and without holding down the volume down button? Weird, no flicker on the screen or anything? Sounds like a possible brick, anyone else have any ideas?
Sound like you need a new phone.. coz if you hold down power button and down volume for 30 second it should boot up. If not your phone might brick.

What exactly did you do to restore the G2 hboot? Am I reading this correctly that this is exactly when it wouldn't turn on?
a friend of mine tried loading hboot from eng-hboot.. still there's no way it would brick the phone!!.. I don't know what else to do. my computer can't recognize the phone anymore.. I'm trying to use adb reboot-bootloader.. but it says device not found..

Flashing hboot is a potential way to brick the phone. Flashing recoveries and roms is relatively safe (recoverable), but if you flash a bad copy of hboot, then I think JTAG is your last option.
Do you know exactly what your friend flashed? md5 hash, file name, which fastboot command?
I'm not sure what the file name is called I'll have to ask him. What is JTAG?

I am happy that we have someone around with these capabilities, but please get your website working correctly.
Every time I go there and click on a link, it takes like 2 or 3 minutes to come in, rather than fractions of a second - and it seems to do this no matter where I access it, whether home computer, work computer, public wifi or smartphone.....
Not having trouble with any other websites, so might wanna get that fixed
When you connect the charger to the phone if it flashes orange it means it needs battery to boot up wait for about 10 minutes and then try to turn it on with the charger still connected
If it doesn't boot up you have a serious brick

Stock Boot-Loop, out of options!

I was at work the night before, and my capacitive buttons stopped responding, so I went for a restart in hopes they would kick back on, this just caused my phone to enter a boot loop. Soft resetting and hard resetting both continue the loop, trying to enter recovery mode throws me back into the loop, entering download mode locks the phone on the small HTC screen. I tried to flash the current RUU onto the phone, but it won't proceed with the install due to a low main battery error despite the fact I've had it charging for 6 hours. The only thing I can think of doing now is sending it back in hopes they fix it, but theres a lot of information I ignorantly haven't backed up, and now can't access before sending it back.
If anyone has any helpful tips or ways to move forward I would be grateful.
you might be able to intervene in the process. when the phone restarts (ideally right after it restarts), hold Volume Down until the grey HTC logo appears, From here, you are in the download menu (or what is now basically the fastboot). If you are stock, you can unlock the bootloader if you havent already and flash a custom recovery (TWRP). Being in TWRP will give you USB access to your phone. And it will provide the ability to flash ROMs, including stock ROMs. Beyond that, you could always try a factory reset from either the download or the bootloader, but not much else I think you can do.
Someone might have more information than me though

Try the same thing, but this time with Volume Up, hold it until the FTM menu appears. From here, you should be able to access the bootloader.
If that also does not work holding Volume Up and Down at the same time takes you straight into the bootloader. Sadly, unless you are S-OFF, there is not a lot you can do from this menu. I dont think it accepts the fastboot commands, particularly fastboot flash commands. But if you can get into the bootloader, and then try each option, download, recovery, etc.
If you get into the recovery, it will be stock (unless you flashed a custom ROM). You have to press volume up twice to access the options, but if you get stuck, hold volume down and power and the touch keys on the bottom flash. After about 15 flashes the phone reboots.

Holding Volume up just continued the loop, I can get into the bootloader like you said, but theres not very many options, download locks the phone onto the HTC logo and doesn't proceed, the recovery option just restarts the phone into the loop.
Im afraid then, that I am out of suggestions for the time being.
Presumably your phone was charging whilst off, and not boot-looping?
Otherwise you can power down from the bootloader and try charging it. That may give you a better chance with the RUU

Mine does not charge either...and RUU does not work because of the battery < 30%
The funniest thing is that I've never touched this phone either (stock, no s-off, no unlock, no custom recovery, just updated via OTA to get Nougat), it just ran out of battery during the night and found the boot loop the morning after when I plugged it. Can't believe it could turn into a f...ing brick by itself.

My friends s7 completly bricked doing the N update. If you havnt done anything to your phone just take it back and get a new one.
Same exact issue here after the Verizon OTA update.
Failed after the first reboot after the update.
The storage was pretty maxed, wonder if that has something to do with it.
