Hi all I received my new Desire Tuesday on 3UK network, but I have a few questions I was hoping you could help me with.
I currently have all my contact saved to the Desire is there a way I can delete them all off my Desire and get my contact list to look at my google contacts to save space on my Desire ?
I have installed Handcent but now I get two SMS notifications for every SMS I get one on the default and one on the Handcent this also happens when I receive an email how can I stop this ?
hi
on the contacts i dont know but whit the sms notifications you have to turn it off in the stock sms settings
Google contacts are the best way to keep your contacts on any android phone.
They actually sync with your phone, your phone doesn't look them up online so it takes the same amount of data as having them on your phone in any other way.
Google contacts just makes it a lot simpler to resync your contacts on new phones etc.

Hi, I have just got my desire and am very very impressed so far, however when I go into my contacts I see the ones I have synchronized from gmail and also my sim contacts.
Is there anyway I can stop the sim contacts showing in the app?
Thanks
Stewart
Wonder if this helps. Under Contacts there is a View option where you can set the sources. SIM is one of those and you can deselect that option to avoid any SIM entries.
Yeah that kinda helped! Now when i go to people the gmail only contacts appear, however when I go to phone dialer, my sim contacts are still appearing? Thanks, stu
I was annoyed by this too and the only workaround is to delete all contacts on the sim.
Desire couldnt do it and neither could the sim app I tried, so I put the sim on my old phone and deleted it from there.
Now I live happily ever after

I was able to delete the sim contacts using the desire. Long press on the contact, view contact, hit menu then delete. Job done. Might take you a while if you have alot to delete, but I didn't mind doing it one by one as I was also adding them to gmail as I went along.
I only had 60 sim contacts and even that would have been too much to go through one at a time for me - I am lazy

I have read some posts which mention that the phone dialer includes all contacts and therefore what is applicable to contacts is not applicable to dialer. I am afraid that deleting contacts is the way to go (for now), unless someone is aware of any other option.
Well I deleted the contacts from my sim, so only my Gmail contacts are showing now. However, it seems like the contacts are not actually stored to my phone, as it doesn't show any contacts being saved to the phone.
Is there anyway I can copy all the Gmail contacts to my phone?
All you have to do is select contacts to be sync'd under Accounts&sync>google>sync contacts and press the sync now button. Once you do that all your gmail contacts should be available on your phone.
Guys, how the hell can I stop Facebook syncing contacts to my phone?
I want it to see what contacts I have in my phone and then sync them to Facebook, but I really dont want Facebook pushing all my friends to my phone.
Is there anyway this can be turned off? I know you can hide them in "People", but thats not the point. I dont want them on my phone in the first place
No way apart from removing sense all together in the sync settings. I wish htc would sort this out I want to chose who goes into my dialer

Just choose to see only SIM and phone contacts. That way the rest ( google, facebook etc. ) won't be visible.

I like htc sense, but don't like facebook contacts being synced to my phone and wish they'd update it so that you get the option. There are two ways to stop it, one is permanent and one is permanent until you reboot the phone and have contacts synced to a cloud, such as google mail. The only problem is when you reboot the phone it then switches facebook contacts sync back on!
Method 1 (Permenant)
Under settings menu, in Accounts and Sync. Remove the account Facebook for HTC Sense.
Method 2 (Not Permanent - Will remove all contacts unless you have a them synced to a cloud)
Under settings menu.
1. In Accounts and Sync, tap on Facebook for HTC Sense and untick option to sync contacts
2. Under settings menu in Applications, tap on Manage Applications and then Tap on Running Applications, at the top of the screen. Select menu, just to sort them in abc order.
3. Wait for the screen to update the icons with images and then scroll down and find Contact Storage. Tap on Contact Storage and then tap on Clear Data, in the options. This will remove all contacts, and then the cloud base contacts will update your phone back with your normal contacts.
Method 2 is not permanent and is only effective until you reboot the phone, or replace the battery. Once this has been done then the contacts sync in Facebook for HTC Sense get's reenabled for some reason. Be nice if it didn't!
I hope HTC will get wind of some people are annoyed that Facebook contacts sync with phone contacts with Sense and they may just update the app with a more permanent solution to stop it if you don't want it to.
I want my dialer list to show only the contacts on my sim / phone and not add my facebook friends.
I'd also like it if the contacts that are on my sim / phone would update status etc.
There is a page over on the google code site about this:
http://code.google.com/p/android/is...c=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars&id=10618
Can't you just log out of Facebook in the Sense apps? Unless Sense is also talking to the official Facebook app, that should work.
I have recently purchased the HTC Desire HD and its an amazing phone. So glad to be away from Apple - amazing to have so much control over my phone again.
I have rooted, installed Android Revolution - and I am currently trying to find ways to improve my battery life - thanks to all the great posts on here about that, I have spent ages reading and tweaking the phone. The best thing is however I can carry round spare batteries! Good bye iPhone
Anyway I have a slight problem that I think is related specifically to the HTC. I have a Google Apps Domain account. I have set up the Gmail Sync for Contacts / Calendar - but the sync is only one way. So all changes online from my laptop change the contacts on the phone but not the other way round? E-mail syncs fine as well... just not calendar / contacts - I have seen problems online with Gmail accounts - but not with Google Apps accounts - do you guys have any ideas?
Cheers

Clear data of any google applications from setting may help.

And let it resync? Won't I loose all the new data off the phone??
Cheers
anyone got any more ideas on this one?

Weird...you have it set to sync manually or automatically? Also check what google synchronizes under accounts and sync...see if contacts and calendar are there. I ve never had any problems
hey thanks for getting back to me... I have set it to auto sync in background, contacts checked - new ones come down to phone from account but when a new on on the phone is made - it doesn't go back up to Google Apps account

Hi,
this is an old topic, but I had exactly the same problem. Clearing the data and cache from Gmail totally helped. It resynced everything and it is working normal again. Thx for the idea jokies.
my girlfriend is having an issue with the facebook contact linking.
apparently she needs to add a 1 to the beginning of every phone number to be able to manualy link phone contacts with facebook contacts. also NONE of the contacts auto linked.
does anyone know anything about this?
is there away to discard those contacts that do not have a phone number attached to them with over 300 FB friends it can be a bit much.?
i have an HTC hero running CM7.0.3 i dont know much about 3.0 sence but it should auto link the contacts that have he same name....
some info her contacts was imported from a BB curve.
also how do i make sure those contacts are synced with her new google account online? i have found this is a great way to quickly edit large amount of contact data.
thanks for the help XDA!

First thing, The incredible 2 does not have sense 3.0. It has sense 2.1 on top of Android 2.2.1
Download an app from the market called contact analyzer 2, it'll help with deleting duplicates and it should give an option to automatically add a +1 onto all of your contacts.
When you're looking at your contacts you can click on menu then view. It'll give you an option at the top to only show contacts with phone numbers then you can also choose which accounts to show up in your contact list.
Once all that is complete you can try a sync with gmail to see if it'll sync with all the contacts from that point.
worked like a charm thanks
I have an Amazon Fire Phone bought from the USA and unlocked to any network but using in the UK on 3 network.
I've rooted the phone and using a different launcher + added Google Play, so for the most part it act's like most Android phones.
However one major problem I have is the device seems to keep losing the names and phone numbers of everyone I have on Gmail. It seems to retain the names and numbers of people on Facebook who have shared their phone number but the majority of my numbers (over 800 people) are stored on Gmail.
The only work around I've found is to go into gmail on my PC and export all my contacts to a VCF file (vCard format) and if the phone loses the contacts I can import them back again from the VCF file but this of course misses out any new people I've added since the last export.
Is there a 3rd party app that will manually let me resync my gmail contacts over the internet at will?
my phone is firmware: Fire OS 4.6.3 (463001620)
I'm using both the original Firephone Contacts Manager and Email software to help keep the contacts in sync with GMAIL
One of the main reasons I also like to use GMAIL to handle my contacts is I like to add photos of people to their details
I had a similar problem but it was because I froze a background system service that was involved with syncing gmail contacts. As soon as I unfroze it problem solved. So make sure you didn't freeze any system services. Sorry I forget exactly which system service it was. You could also go into account settings, delete gmail and re add it. Give it some time and it should sync your contacts.
One other problem I had in the past was that for some reason I had a couple hundred duplicates of one contact (not sure how this happened) and it broke the syncing and the phone just refused to sync contacts giving me a fail message. I went into my gmail contacts and deleted all duplicates. Problem solved.
Also could be a bad contact with a unique field or bad code or just weird symbols. Try making a new gmail account. Add a couple contacts and add that gmail account to your phone. Does it sync fine with the new gmail account?

The built in contacts app is seriously stupid and its driving me crazy.
it shows several contacts sources and I can't disable the sync of any of them rather than changing the view to Gmail only or so...therefore I ended up with many repeated contacts on my phone from 4 sources (Gmail Contacts , Whatsapp Contacts?!?, Facebook and Linkedin)
I stopped the sync with Linkedin , but every single number that was synced previously is saved in my Whatsapp contacts and everytime I try to delete it says that I can't delete and it will be hidden...I openend a case with Whatsapp and I am pending them to get back to me.
When I use the (join) option to merge the contacts I end up with a very long repeated list of numbers or old numbers that I can't delete....very frustrating.
I tried using third party contacts apps and ended up with too many duplications.
I did send a feedback to amazon about this, advised them to take a look at the HTC contacts app for inspiration as it really outstanding...if by the end of this year they dont fix this phone I am ditching it and getting either iPhone 6s, Samsung S6 Edge or HTC
