[Q] Froyo broke the Calendar!! - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When you edit calendar entries the Description field gets overwritten by the Where field's contents! Is anyone else having this problem? This really sucks for me.

YES, I am having the exact same problem! It's very annoying to lose information that I spend time entering on my calendar.
To recap, using the calendar application, there is no way to edit the description field. Moreover, if you attempt to edit, then the description field is over-written with the location.
My workaround is to use Jorte Calendar (from the Market), which allows editing of the description field and doesn't corrupt it, unlike the native calendar.

Moreover, note that the description field is always one line, no matter how big of a description was entered through other interfaces (such as Google calendar on a browser or Jorte Calendar on the device). I am running stock FroYo 2.2 with OTA update, unrooted.

[Q] Sense Calendar Question

Quick question... I've just switched back to Sense from CM6, and I'm wondering if I am losing my mind.
Am I right in saying that it is NOT POSSIBLE to edit calendar entries using HTC calendar? That seems unbelievable to me, but so far the only options I can see are to create an entry or delete. There is no "edit" option. I'm 99% certain that the AOSP calendar has this.
Can someone please confirm?
Thanks,
Matt_TX
EDIT: Even more bizarre... I CAN edit entries created on my Exchange Calendar, but I CANNOT edit entries created on my Google Calendars. So weird!
My edit option seems to depend on where the entry comes from. If I add something striaght to the calendar I can edit it as I please. If it's something that sync'ed from lets say Facebook then I can not edit it. My work exchange also syncs and it all depends on what the event is and if it's something I originally made or not. All in all I think it depends on the type of even it is but I will also be watching this thread to see if someone has a little more info they can chime in with.
This is really very strange...
I can add, edit and delete apppointments on my Exchange calendar - regardless of where the entry was orignally made - Phone, OWA or Outlook.
I can ONLY add or delete (NO EDIT) appointments on my Google calendar(s) - regardless of where the entry was originally made - Phone or Web.
Anyone know why this is the case? AOSP calendar works just fine... Is this a bug in Sense?

[Q] Calendar Recurrence and End

I want to be able to set recurrence for calendar events for bi-weekly. I'd also like to specify when the recurrence would stop happening.
Neither seems to be possible in the stock Calendar app. Is there a way to do it or is there an app that can do it? I'd like to avoid having to use the browser to do it.
Does anyone know?
Don't know if you can do it on the phone. But the Google Calendar browser interface on your desktop/laptop computer has the ability to specify both bi-weekly repeating events, and the number of occurrences.

Click to collapse
Yeah, I know that's possible but I was hoping there'd be a native app available so that I wouldn't have to use the browser.

[Q] Show one number per contact in Messaging

Whenever I compose a new message in the stock Messaging app, when I enter in a name, I get not only their mobile number, but also their email, their house phone, their work, etc...but I only need to see their mobile. Is there any way to make this happen? I wouldn't like to remove the numbers permanently off my phone (some of them I cannot, they are from facebook).
As far as I can tell, there isn't a way to do this through the phone's options.
The only thing that comes close is this: when choosing names from the contacts list, you can specify a preferred number to use for messaging, but this only appears to apply to choosing names from your contacts. Typing in a name will still suggest all of that person's numbers.
Hmmm, ok. Is there a modification to the messaging app that I could use perhaps? Or, if I were to root my phone (maybe), is there some things I can mess with in the apk to disable this?
To be honest, I don't know. There might be, but I have little experience modifying the system apps.
I did a bit more searching on this issue and it appears there used to be such an option in Android 2.1 or 2.2, but it's missing in 2.3. According to the majority of forum posts I came across, the "solution" to this problem is to install a third-party messaging app like Handcent, which apparently does have an option to filter contacts so that only mobile numbers show up.
Also, I poked around in a decompiled version of Mms.apk (the messaging app) and there doesn't appear to be any easy way to change the current functionality. I think the solution lies in changing what suggestions the app returns when you start typing a name (so instead of returning all numbers/emails, it just returns numbers categorized as mobile), but I can't find what file contains that behavior. I'll keep looking, though.
Ok, thank you for looking. Keep in mind that this is a Samsung phone, and I think they install their own flavor of the MMS app. If you'd like, I can see if I can track down an APK (probably from a rooted Galaxy S II Skyrocket) and send it over to you.
And, If I need to use a different messaging app, is there a way to make it blend in as much as it can, like instead of seeing custom icons/names/ads, seeing something like the stock Messaging shortcut/app.

[Q] Creating Google Calendar Private Events

Hi everyone,
I've been searching for an answer to this one for a while, but no one seems to have this issue.
On may old HTC magic, when I created a calendar event I could choose "More options" and set the event to private. With the one x, this option appears to be missing and all events are created as"default".
I am using the calendar app that comes with the one x (I would prefer to keep using this app if possible, I think this is the google calendar app with a sense skin). I only sync and display google calendar, but I also have hotmail accounts setup on the phone (only sync/display mail with these).
I can create the calendar event and then go to the web version and make it private but this kind of defeats the purpose of creating the events in the phone. I need to make some events private as I have others looking at the calendar to see when I am available but I don't want them to be able to see the details.
Has anyone seen a solution to this? I was really hoping that with the150odd people that have looked at this thread that someone might know of a solution.

[Q] Marking a Calendar Event as Private

Hey all,
All of my email and calendar settings are correct, and I am sync'd with the Exchange/ActiveSync for work. When trying to create a calendar invite it will show correctly in my Outlook client as well. The issue I am having is when creating a calendar invite on the phone itself - it doesn't give an option to mark it as private. After you've created the event and go to view it - it shows Privacy as "default". If you click "edit" on the event you don't seem to get the option to change it.
I know there are options for rooted phones, (I searched to the best of my ability) but wanted to see about a stock GS3 (you know how it is, work phone).
Any ideas or different calendar suggestions are more than welcome. Thank you for the help.
-Kenny
