Hi everyone
Just 2 days ago i got my Galaxy W. Yesterday i decided to install COW rom.
So i followed the instructions. I rooted the phone which and after that i had to flash ClockworkMod v5.5.0.4. However i didn't follow the instructions as i should and i didn't extract the file from the zip archive. So i put this recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-ancora.zip file in the internal storage of the phone. After that i performed recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-ancora.zip manual flash with adb shell for the zip file. After restarting my phone the samsung logo showed up and after that i was in the download mode. I can't get into the recovery mode. Now i can only get into the download mode or ramdump mode.
When i connect the phone to my pc it is marked as unspecific device which means that i can't do anything with it. I tried connecting it to mac, ubuntu, win 7 but i got the same result. I tried using One Click UnBrick program but that didn't help. The odin doesn't recognize my phone as well. I have also reinstaled drivers, kies but with no results.
So far i haven't found anyone with a similar problem.
Is there any chance to unbrick my phone? Or should i just take it to samsung service?
Uninstall drivers. After install them again. Use another USB Port, for best result one of the backsided ones. Put your phone into download mode, start odin, connect phone to PC, flash stock rom.
worked for me and for my friends SGS II also. I'm hoping for that it works!

Forgot to mention, restart after uninstalling drivers und again do a restart after installing drivers and uninstall kies, sometimes it disturbs odin
Sent from my GT-I8150 using XDA App
Followed your instructions but the odin said that i don't have a phone connected
Any other suggestions?

have u try to go to download mode? (turn off device, press volume down + home + power)
I never had a problem for that, just get in to download mode, connect it, then Odin will read it automatically
Similiar with my problem before, but in my case when i turn on device, mine showing false download mode. I can't go to download, but only showing menu...
Have you go to download mode with voldown+power+menu key? Or just use 'false' download mode?
Sent from my GT-I8150 using XDA App
I get into the download mode by pressing power+vol down + home and after that a menu shows up and i press vol up. Then it says:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-I8150
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
CURRENT KERNEL: UNKNOWN !!
Downloading...
Do not turn off target!!
Just tried connecting to Odin again without success. Any other ideas?
omg im so happy.
Odin somehow detected my phone and i reinstalled it.
Thanks everyone
OK guys so this is the issue, I'm trying to reset my buddies Samsung Galaxy S 2 on T-Mobile. He forgot his password and he asked me to help since I'm handy with cell phones. So I tried the easiest thing and tried to do a hard reset. Now I press and hold Volume Up and Down and Press and hold the Power button until I feel it vibrate and let go of the Power button while still holding Volume Up and Down and it will take me to where it says "# Manual Mode #" but when I scroll down and try to select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" I can't select it. I tried pressing the Home button and the Power button to select it and nothing. I tried all the buttons and nothing. I also tried putting in Download Mode to try to reflash the firmware but when I connect it to the computer I don't here it connect and Odin doesn't recognize it not even in the Device Manager. I tried doing the same on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and the computer and Odin recognize it just fine. So i'm stumped and need you guys help! Thanks in Advance....
Have you installed the proper USB driver and Kies for the phone on your computer? Make sure you are using the latest Odin.
Also, try flashing a different recovery system such as TWRP once you're able to get Odin working.
As long as you are able to get your phone to connect to Odin, you should be fine. You can even flash a stock ROM through Odin if all else fails.
Good luck!

If you can't get Odin to work, test it on another Galaxy S2 to see if the problem is with the computer. Just a tip.
I have been having the same problem. this t989 i have been working with does not show up on any laptop in the house, and they all have the kies drivers installed. it is "usb device not found." i have been considering wiping the usb storage and sending it straight back to factory settings. but without odin i am going to have to manually flash recovery and all that.. any ideas?? I hooked my phone up to both laptops in the house and it shows up instantly. i am definitely confused. and the worst of it, is ubuntu didnt even recognize the phone.
Do yo have any belkin router software install on your computer. If you have, uninstall it and try.

No luck, installed Kies and didn't recognize phone in Odin. What's weird is that it will not let me factory reset thru the 3 button combo in # manual mode #! I would try a different pc but don't have one atm.
i think i am going to try pointing the phone to googles oem driver
Windows 7
To install the Android USB driver on Windows 7 for the first time:
Connect your Android-powered device to your computer's USB port.
Right-click on Computer from your desktop or Windows Explorer, and select Manage.
Select Devices in the left pane.
Locate and expand Other device in the right pane.
Right-click the device name (such as Nexus S) and select Update Driver Software. This will launch the Hardware Update Wizard.
Select Browse my computer for driver software and click Next.
Click Browse and locate the USB driver folder. (The Google USB Driver is located in <sdk>\extras\google\usb_driver\.)
here is something interesting the phone i am working on the usb storage is not mounted on the phone. has anyone seen anything like this before?
My PC doesn't even recognize the phone while its in odin mode??? It's like it's not even connected!!!

the phone could be borked. one that i hve been working on is the same way. i got ahold of samsung and they told me to send it in for repair.
My t999 is running on root box custom ROM. I can tell this ROM is quite stable but after 3 weeks of using, I turned off the phone and now it won't boot up. I didn't flash or anything. It still vibrates if I try to turn on with the power button. Any idea what happen?
Is it plugged into a charger port? Unplug after letting it charge for 10 minutes, hold power until vibrate let go. If not that then might be the recently popular dying S III issue.
Update. it doesnt let me boot into safe or download mode.

Just use odin from there, read up and do the process. Make sure you have it on the charger while it's sitting. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687

This guide will get your phone back up and running properly
Follow the instructions below.
Easy and sure way fix your problem - Here is s step by step guide:
Download this pre-rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 Jellybean v4.1.2 rom: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=22946563261203914
After downloading make a folder on your computer's desktop and unzip the
file using Winzip or 7zip so the .TAR file is in the new folder you just made.
Download and extract Odin into the same folder you made containing the TAR file
Here is the link for Odin: http://d-h.st/Q14
Download ODIN which is required for flashing the stock rooted firmware (a windows app)
Download the Odin Flash firmware for T999 Tmobile then copy it to the same folder as Odin
Run Odin by double clicking the Odin.exe within the same folder as the TAR file you extracted
Turn off your phone and boot into DOWNLOAD MODE (Volume Down + Home + Power Hold until phone powers up, then release and press Volume Up to enter Download Mode)
Once in Download Mode, connect the USB/Charger cable to the phone and plug into the USB port on your computer.
You should now see a COM** port listed toward the top-left of Odin (under ID:COM)
Click on the PDA button in the middle-right area of Odin.
Browse to and select the Firmware you downloaded (TAR file)
Make sure Auto-Reboot and F. Reset Time are the only options checked and that PDA is the only other thing checked.
TRIPLE CHECK your settings and that you have selected the correct firmware for your model phone and are using the correct options.
If you are using a laptop, make absolutely sure you are plugged in, or if on battery, that it is charged enough and will not go into sleep mode during flash.
Click Start to begin the flash. This will take a while, so be patient!
Once complete, in the top-left box in Odin, it will say PASS and the phone should have automatically rebooted.
You may unplug the phone and close Odin if you wish.
Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the system to boot the first time and then build its cache!
(It may seem to hang during boot, this is normal and you must be patient!!!)
Good Luck!
Dear friends,
I have a bricked t989. Screen wont start. I thin the phone ran out of space when I was trying to flash a ROM (silly me).
Here is what happens when I connect the phone to:
Windows7/XP laptop:
It start asking me to format the USB drive. Phone is not detected in Samsung Kies. It shows as a USB device ni system tray. IN computer management, a lots of drives appear and all seem to be healthy. The icons disappear when I hold the power button and come back when I press power button again. So it tells me the on and off is occuring, but nothing occurs on screen.
Linux PC:
I can see all the drives with all the contents. Including all my files, apps, system folders, etc. I see folders like image lib etc. And its writable too.
IS there any way I can flash a stock rom or something by copying some files to these folders or anyway I can use what I can see in Linux to put life back into my phone?
Many thanks for reading.

If u can see everything like that then ur not bricked, u need to put he phone in download mode by turning it off and holding vol-vol+ and connecting to PC, a screen should show and give u option to continue or cancel, press continue, now connect to windows via Odin, Samsung kies will not see the phone because u have a custom recovery, make sure kies isn't running/uninstall it if u can, open Odin v1.85 and wait till it says added, from there flash twrp v2.6.1.0 tar.file from here techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hercules load the file via PDA option and press start in Odin, do not touch anything else besides PDA to load the file and start to initiate the flash, when its done and u get a green passed sign, DL ur fav ROM to ur PC, boot to recovery on the phone and select advanced/mount USB, transfer the file, flash the ROM (and gapps if needed) and reboot, phone should recover fine..

I have this same problem, but can't get mine to work.
While back, I flash and play around with lots of roms. One day my t989 went dead, after flashing, can't remember the detail. Anyway, so now, when I plug in the usb cable, the computer dings and a message pops up saying I need to format the disk drive before I can use it. Options are "Format disk" or "Cancel". I can't format, it keeps saying to check the disk and make sure it is connected properly and try again. Only option is Cancel. Odin can't see it either. Kies can't see it. Also, Kies is uninstalled and PC is rebooted. Still no luck.
What else can I try?

First of all u never never format a phone from a PC like that, the device has certain partitions that hold crucial info such as imei, sys data, recovery info, and formating wipes all of that so that's a no no, second if by chance u flashed the wrong ROM or a wrong anything bad things happen, the fact that it even asks u to format the disk tells me something is wrong, try holding vol-vol+ while connecting phone to PC when the phone is off, if its recoverable it will enter download mode, if that doesn't work u can try a USB jig, which will force the device into DL mode and at most there a couple dollars on eBay or amazon, so its worth it to fix the phone, if neither of those options work then congrats man u have officially hard bricked ur device, frame it an mount it on the wall lol

OK I have a Galaxy Tab3 GT-P5210, I have developer usb debugging enabled, I have the Samsung KIES package installed on my PC and I've downloaded Odin307, the TWRP package and the ROOT package that is well documented in this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525630
The problem I'm having is with the step that says:
Power down your device and put it into download mode. To do this, press and hold the Home + Volume Down + Power buttons simultaneously for 3 to 5 seconds until you see the warning screen.
When I do this it goes into something called 'Android System Recovery <3e>" with a prompt that says "# MANUAL MODE #" with the following options:
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
and it does not show up in Odin so I cannot get further...how can I resolve this?
as a rant here, I really wish Google would mandate that all providers supply an option to root the device and install stock Android...this nonstop jumping thru hoops just to have basic control over a device you spent good money on is ****ing stupid

Hey man download mode is where you flash custom recoveries and custom or stock Roms on your device. The answer to you for download mode is your not holding it down enough. first power off the device. Second hold these buttons all together: power + Volume Down + home button. Keep holding these buttons for a minimum of 10-15 seconds or more and it will go into download mode. From there you open up Odin on your pc and then you should see in a box your com port this means your connected. From there you it PDA and you select your recovery file. It should end with
.md5! Make sure re-partition is not checked or you will brick your device! Now it start and once it's done it will say Res OK. Good luck!
got it

You know what it was? Its a brand new tablet for me and so when it is held lengthwise (like you'd hold a phone normally) the Vol+ button is at the BOTTOM, not the top like every phone I've ever owned. So I was holding Vol- instead and that's why it wasn't working for me...boneheaded mistake but thanks for the reply...I can now boot it into Download mode ...though I still can't get Odin to recognize it
thanks for the reply

connecting to odin is the same for every samsung device. I am going to try my best to help you out so here we go. Check to make sure you have the samsung usb drivers. to do that go to my computer then local disk then go to programs and files. if you see the SAMSUNG folder and when you open it and you see the drivers folder containg the usb drivers then if you don't see it then we need to install the drivers. first uninstall kies. you don't need this.the download and open this exe file: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_nizg6yUZ0NS1RodDBxd0E1MFU/preview . install it normally.

After trying some different things I got Odin working, was able to install TWRP and root the device so that's all good
Now I've downloaded the framework-res.apk and decompiled it, modded it as i wanted to and recompiled using the Android Multitool app and the final issue I'm having is pushing the new framework-res.apk back to the device. The Android Multitool app claims it pushes the file but it does not. So I downloaded the latest sdk and I'm going to try using the raw ADB tool to push the file and see if that works...wish me luck
You can use twrp file manger to do that.
Just copy your file to sdcard while connected to pc and then reboot to recovery use file manager in advanced settings. Find your file and copy it to where ever you need it.
