[Q] What's the part numbers or the different displays? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know what are the part numbers or the different displays?
I mean, the part number for the original AMOLED unit and it's replaced SuperTFT.
I just cracked the screen after a fall!
I don't want to buy a replacement and end up with a SuperTFT instead of the gorgeous AMOLED.
Many thanks, people...

Theres no more amoled screens for the desire, htc has started shipping them with slcd's now so i doubt they have a stash for repairs, i also doubt samsung are even making desire spec amoled screens so u prob cnt buy em from a 3rd party either

HTC have said if you send it in for repair you'll get an AMOLED back. I guess they're just refurbing. If you buy a replacement it won't specify AMOLED on the box any more.

[Q] Manually replacing an AMOLED screen with SLCD?

Ever since I got my droid incredible I've been rather disappointed with the screen. I'd say its the best device on Verizon aside from the poor battery life (fixed by slipping in a 1500mah battery) and the pentile matrix AMOLED screen. I love the vibrant colors it produces, but I'm a web junkie on my phone. This means that 90% of the time I'm looking at a pure white screen thus contributing to more battery drain and blurry text all thanks to the AMOLED screen.
So when I heard that they would start replacing AMOLED with SLCD, I got a little happy. Not too happy, because I'm stuck with an AMOLED version. I'm almost two months into my dinc ownership and would like then next 16-22 months to be a little more readable.
I got to thinking, I could sell this and buy a new one, yada yada, but what about doing a screen replacement myself? I've seen it done on youtube and it doesn't look terribly hard. But I have a few reservations:
1. Would my current hardware (version 02) accept a SLCD screen? I noticed that the new hardware version with the SLCD is 03, so I don't know if there's a firmware issue here.
2. Can you even buy SLCD replacements yet? I've looked around a bit and many stores offer "LCD Replacements". I don't understand what is meant by that since AMOLED screens are that I've known of to be available to incredibles. Are they cheap unofficial TFT panels? I'm after the juicy IPS panel SLCD, I'd rather keep my AMOLED than a cheap LCD. My concern is that they won't ever become available.
3. Performing such in depth hardware surgery will surely void my warranty and put me at risk to ruin my phone. This is a given though.
If anyone has any info regarding those above points then please share your knowledge. Thanks for reading and hopefully others have thought about this as well
SLCD is junk, it isn't a good thing that they're replacing the screens, they're doing it because Samsung is using all their smiled and super amoled screens on their own devices, thus being back ordered for everybody else. There's a reason HTC used the smiled first, if the SLCD was any better they would have used it.
I completely disagree w/ ogkhaze I actually never considered the incredible until it got the slcd. Amoled sucks imo. I hate the over saturated colors and the pentile's pixel layout. The slcd has better color accuracy and text is nice and clear.
Dunno how the fact that amoled was used first makes it any better.
Anyways you can try getting your phone replaced I.e. with your warranty but make sure you request one with an slcd. Dunno if that will work though
Getting a replacement seems like a decent way to go about it, but I'd need a legitimate reason (I'd think) and I don't have the first idea how to con that
Obviously there are varying opinions on the screen types... SLCD is better for my uses, but AMOLED has its merits as well.
Well if you're trying to get a replacement you can always go the insurance route and hope you get SLCD or you can say that you're phones speaker is blown they aren't going to check it and call you out or anything.

Verizon replaced my phone when I told them that my phone was rebooting all the time, at complete random, and without any rhyme or reason. Granted, it actually WAS having problems, but if you warranty the thing and they find no issues, what will they do, ask for the replacement back? I doubt it.
Say the AMOLED burned in in the corner, where it says AM/PM. People had woahs like that with the N1 and the notification bar. Demand you get an SLCD replacement so it doesn't happen again. If it works for you I'll try the same, I want an SLCD so I can use a white notification bar and not worry about suffering the N1's fate

Just got replacement Dinc///Pink Screen???

I just received a replacement phone in the mail and when I booted it up the white HTC Incredible logo screen seems to be pink compared to my other Dinc (slcd).
Maybe they sent an AMOLED, or is the screen just screwed up? When comparing an SLCD to an AMOLED model, is the screen of the AMOLED more of a pinkish hue??
If not, I have to call Asurion and let them know that this phone is junked. Has anyone compared the 2?

Pink? Like if you look at a white screen (even bootup) it's noticeably pink? I've had both the AMOLED and the SLCD. The difference between the 2 that I've found is that with the SLCD you can see the individual pixels and the colors don't seem as vivid. With the AMOLED colors are bright and you can't see the individual pixels. I can't say I noticed any differences in hue between the 2 screens.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it IS the SLCD, just a effed up one. That's TWO DUDS in a row that I've got from Asurion. The first one wouldn't connect to GPS and now this one obviously has a defective screen. I miss my original AMOLED Dinc....

You can check if its SLCD or AMOLED by checking the hardware version; settings -> about phone -> hardware information. If its 0002 its AMOLED, if its 0003 its SLCD.

thanks for that information... damn, the first phone they sent me was an AMOLED. I hope the next phone is too. But seriously, Asurion is sending out defective devices.

I just read that some of the AMOLED screens have a pink hue. Some more than others and some not at all. I guess it's up to you if you want to send it back though. I would.

is my phone amoled or slcd

Ok i sent my phone of to repair for the scond reboot loop time.
phone was returned eventually.
Havent really used it as i was sent a desire s and a white desire then eventually mine was returned after nearly a month for some reason so been using the desire s.
Last few days waiting for the update ive been messing with it and noticed that instead of white being white its yellowish. which it wasnt before just compared it to the white desire (havent had chance as i gave it to my daughter and shes been away until day)and the desire white is a lot brighter and crisper on the white no yellowish .
My original was a amoled got the box and flashed before so 100% amoled no doubt.
so have they changed the screen nothing wrong at all with it before repair not 1 scratch.
Cheers
Marc
ok just been thinking i had a voda brand on it before i sent it to repair had the same when i got it back different imei though.
but i have flashed it back to unbranded stock rom

I don't think so. Now when you asked, both my brother and sister own Desire amoled while I have a slcd. They do seem a bit yellowish with white background. I'm no screen expert either bit I think easiest would be to compare with your Desire S which is slcd for sure. If the colors seem plain different it is amoled for sure.
no theres a really big difference ill try to get screen shot
desire s is really crisp
desire is on the right of the pics
U have to look at the black amoled have way darker black

My o2 UK branded slcd was made in Taiwan, where as my wife has a generic slcd made in China. My taiwanese model is much clearer and the Chinese model has a yellow tint to it

Look on the box of your desire. If you can read amoled in the displays description, it's amoled. If there isn't written anything, it's slcd.
Swyped from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
yes box is amoled as stated original
went back to repair for second time boot loop
took ages about a month new imei same serial number
i had pushed the camera lens cover out as it became scratched phone was returned with a one that was there so prob a back cover.
just looks yellowish and unbright compared to the desire s
i think it is slcd, need som bleck picture from setings. tray microscop if is 3 sub pixel, then slcd, if 2sub pisel (pen-tile matrix) then amoled.

[Q]Screen damage

Unfortunately my beloved's screen sustained a sever damage
I would like to try and fix it by myself and need to know what do I have to replace
The device works fine
Screen glass is splintered but responds to touch quiet alright
A small yellow spot In the center
Does the yellow spot mean that the board under the glass is damaged as well ... or I can save it by replacing glass only ?
At eBay I find two options
Full LCD Display + Touch Screen Digitizer Assembly - 80 $
New Touch Screen Digitizer Glass Assembly - 30 $
Do you Know whether the parts over at Ebay are quality ... or should I not mess with it and pay full price by sending my beloved to a HTC lab ?
Grieving badly :crying: and waiting for some help
It doesn't seem to be possible to separate the glass from the LCD, without damaging LCD. No idea whether the screens you're looking at on eBay are the same as original or just compatible.
The only thing I can offer is that I replaced my screen on the desire HD and for the time effort and quality I wish I'd sent it off
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA Premium HD app
Don't mess with it, my experience was with my hd2 and it was a nightmare and would of been cheaper letting htc do it, also I have read horror stories about cheap screens being sold for the one x

OK guys
I think I'll leave it for HTC even though the price will probably be a killer
Thanx

[Q] Is it possible to install an AMOLED screen on an SLCD device?

So while i was replacing the digitizer on this beauty, the lcd flex must have broken inside because it didnt seem like it so i have no display
also the optical button flex broke (Now im really screwed Tiny)
So im looking into ordering a samsung amoled screen from ebay even though my hardware version is the slcd version
Is it compatible or were there just screen changes and not motherboard changes when HTC said they're going to slcd for these devices?

I dont believe they are interchangable. Something to do with a graphics chip or something, ive seen this asked and answered somewhere here on xda before. Mabey someome who knows for sure will chime in.
Well this is unfortunate. And the fact that SLCD screens are more expensive than the amoleds online.
Can someone else confirm that they are not interchangable?

I would think they are but I don't know either way. The best thing for you to do is an xda or Google search into this.

I did some googling but couldnt find much. Found a lot of people asking but no one answering. I saw one thread where a guy said he did it, but when he turned it on he just got a pink screen. He wasnt sure if it was because of the screen type change, or if he just messed something up when putting it back together. Then the thread just died. The connectors on both are the same. I did notice though on some sites selling slcd replacements that there are 2 different types of slcd screen that shipped with the inc, and they make it sound as though they are not interchangable. You could try to contact htc, but who knows what would come of that.
They are not interchangable. AMOLED and SLCD. The way the pixels receive signal is different. AMOLED can turn individual pixels on/off while LCD can only change their color. They need different chips/drivers to work properly.
