I've got an O2 Ireland-branded HTC Desire.
This means when I turn it on, the first thing you see is a big O2 logo. After a few seconds this disappears and changes to the the boot animation.
Flashing ROMs changes the boot animation, but it doesn't affect this initial logo.
Does anyone know how to change this logo?
I'm assuming it's stored on some part of the phone which is... hard to change? Is it part of HBOOT? Can it be replaced with the unbranded version?
if your phone is rooted then the easiest way would be to install root explorer and copy and paste the bootanimation zip file you want to use over the original one. or you can buy bootanimation changer app from market and do it that way............sudeki300
I know how to change the boot animation. But that's not the problem. What I'm trying to change is the logo that appears *before* the boot animation. You know, the thing you see the instant you turn your phone on.

Hi, I was in this case, the best way is to re-flash the droid with an original (you will have the HTC logo in place of your operator), after that you can use a custom rom.
Does anyone know which part exactly of the offical HTC update would replace this logo? Is it HBOOT? SPL? Something else?
Could this be extracted from the HTC update and flashed separately?
the only way i know of is to debrand the phone by rooting it and flashing a custom rom. or just get hold of a generic htc desire official rom and flash that....................sudeki300

the file in question is bootanimation.zip. It's not simple to extract it and re-compile the rom; 2 solutions:
- use a kitchen to create your own rom.
- try to replace bootanimation by another one, I try it since few days without success, I'm working on it because the HTC logo is no so sexy.
The original rom from HTC is RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121865
Not that i know the answer, but just to clear things up:
-he is rooted.
-he has changed bootanimation.zip.
He is talking about the logo before bootanimation. Normally 'HTC' in green, in his case 'O2' (I guess in red).
The question is: where is that 'pre-bootanimation-logo' stored and possibly how to change it?
Flashing rom or flashing bootscreenanimation.zip does not work.

You will have to flash a stock rom and put up with the htc logo, as it stands we cannot flash the splash screen seperately because we do not have an unlocked spl yet

Hello sir - are you saying that I could get rid of the ugly Telstra boot splash screen and replace it with a stock HTC splash screen if I flashed a factory ROM? (Yes, I am talking about the boot splash, and NOT the boot animation).
Anything would be preferable to the splash of a carrier I am not even using.
If so, would I need to re-root, or would I have to de-root first, then re-root?

Is there any new solutions for that ?

Hi there,
The title really says it all!! I've done some searching and cannot find anywhere how to do it. I've installed MoDaCo's rom (1.4.1, excellant, cheers Paul) and this has replaced 50% of the home screen, but just as I turn my Hero on, I still get the T-Mobile screen 1st, before the Hero screen.
Is there anyway to remove this back to the normal Hero boot screen? I just want rid of T-Mobile

I had some cool custom splash screens on my HTC Magic, would be nice to get rid of the T-Mobile G2 one on my Hero and replace it with a good'un.
As with all these things though it's probably better to wait until the Hero has been ripped apart a bit more.
got the same "problem" and waiting desperately for a way to change that ugly screen
sorry guys
as paul has stated....we will all have to just wait....a bit
Oh, come on - the guy on T-Mobile work experience must have spent a whole 10 minutes doing that logo in MS Paint. Give the man a break... ;-)

Just thinking: Magic is essentially the same hardware as hero, but there's no way of using any of the magic stuff (HardSPL, if 'm not wrong and it runs only on dream, not sure) over to the hero. Is this a "32A/32B board" kind of problem?
But I guess we'll just have to wait for someone to leak it (if it even exist :S )
+1
It just sucks to turn on the phone with an ugly bootlogo like that.
Isn't the T mobile splash screen part of the Hero ROM? I thought networks just add it when they brand the ROM? So if you flash it with the generic rom wont the screen disappear?
the G2 Touch screen that appears as soon as you turn it on, is not part of the ROM.
The T-Mobile logo that appears instead of the hero logo on unbranded devices can be changed, but not the initial one.
not yet, anyway....
I know it's being worked on....
oh right, so if I buy the G2 touch as opposed to the HTC Hero, I will be stuck with the T mobile boot screen?
Also does EVERY SINGLE G2 Touch come locked to T-mobile? can you flash a generic rom to remove simlock? Sorry for the off-thread question.
If you buy the G2, then yes, you will be stuck with the boot screen, but this is a minor issue as most people leave the phoen turned on all the time, even at night (you have to or the alarm wont sound) so you won;t really notice it, but if you REALLY want rid of it, you;re stuck for the moment.
yes,. they're all locked to T-mob. or at least the UK ones are, can't speak for the dutch, german etc ones.
no, SIM lock is NOT linked to the SIM. flashing will not get rid of it.
Just wondering if there was any progress on this since 12th October (last post on the topic)?

I do, but it involves booting the kernel with some extra parameters and some commandline stuff. If it's a easily obtainable some other way it's prefered. For example if it's a branded logo from some other ROM it's easier to grab it from the RUU than a running device.
If you want to I could write something up later on how to get current one from a running phone.

hmmm, no i doubt renaming as update.zip would ever work (There's a bit more to it than just naming a file to be honest)
to change your bootscreen (the t-mobile splash you mention) you will need to root your phone, and then put the spl released on nov 24th onto your phone (it's a sticky)
and use the fast boot program to send the required file to your phone in the rgb565 file format.
there is a how to on modaco with some custom bootsplash screens -- with a few submitted by me i might add
check here (if you're a member, otherwise look for the thread "Custom Splash & Boot Screens for the Hero " in the htc hero thread in the android forum

I'm answering only so you don't waste a lot more time looking, and probably won't otherwise get an answer.
I have the same phone (A8183 from Telstra) and that initial logo cannot currently be changed by anyone due to that part of the ROM not being able to be unlocked.
Even rooting your phone and flashing any rom currently available doesn't grant access to this splash screen.
Sorry... not what you wanted to hear I'm sure but it's currently the case.

This is relevant to my interests... So am I right in thinking this is the process?
- get OTA 2.2 ROM for Desire and flash using current process? (Do I need to change radio?)
- Has this now unrooted me? Do I need to re-root? Is it possible?
- Reapply (say) Leedroid 2.x and the original HTC splash screen stays?
Cheers - Neil G
I rooted my Telstra Desire using r6-desire-root-alt.zip a few months ago, and that changed the initial boot splash to the default HTC splash.. so it can be done.

It's almost ready for public release.
You have to convert it to a specific format, but yeah.
It's not a filesystem, its a raw part of the nand
with a rgb framebuffer format.
Some generic ruu zips contain splash1.
Check inside the zip to be sure.
That is the green-on-white HTC logo.

Thanks everyone - this is all great news... When I got my Desire I couldn't find anyone that was able to say the splash could be changed (either to HTC default or to a custom image)...
Sounds like S-OFF is close so I'll just wait it out.
Cheers - Neil G
When I had a Hero, I was able to change the initial boot image after i installed an engineering spl (obtained from modaco)
Not sure if the same method would apply for s-off on the desire.
But the criteria for the boot image then was, obtain an image you like, crop it to an exact pixel size, and covert to 365rgb format
then using fastboot on your pc use the command fastboot flash splash1
(bearing in mind it's been a while, and it's late, I may be remembering incorrectly)
But if the process turns out to be similar for the desire, you should be able to easily create any boot image you wish, as long as you follow the process carefully and correctly. An image with the wrong pixel size when converted and flash will not display correctly at all.
Hope that helps.
S-OFF is now available! Just installed on my Telstra Desire and changed the splash1 screen successfully!

I got a t-mobile branded DHD, and had no problems with root s-off etc. and im currently running revolution 2.0.11 ROM.
But the tmobile bootscreen is still there. Is there any possibility to remove it?
I already tried to replace the bootanimation.zip in /data/local/. So first I thought that worked because when fastboot is turned on the new bootanimation shows up on restart.
But when I go into CWM or when fastboot is turned off the tmobile logo is still showing up.
I also flashed Kernel and Radio but still no effect.
Does anyone know where this logo is stored or how it can be removed?

Yes it's on the /splash2 partition. To nuke it you need a new splash.img. You can get one from extracting from an ruu or there is a thread for custom splash screen in the themes section of the forum.
You also need eng hboot s-off not radio s-off then you can boot to fastboot and do "fastboot flash splash2 splash.img"
-----
Someone Swyped my idea.
like mox said it's not the boot animation, its the splash, you need to have eng s-off, then find the image you want as a splash, you need to convert the .bmp to an .img, then you can flash it from fastboot using the command "fastboot flash splash1 xxxxxx.img"
thx for your fast answers!
how do i convert a bmp to img? i guess it wont work by just changing the file ending?
im so glad i wont have to see that t-mobile logo anymore now my DHD is completely liberated from all this provider crap

Problem Vodafone has no RUU Stock roms....I try it with the PD98IMG.zip from a HTC Stock Rom but I get the message in the bootoader after checking: CID incorrect....
So I delete the hboot file in this zip and after checking the zip it comes NO error message, but sadly he get back to the bootloader....so I think that CID request is defined in the hboot file...
I hope everyone can open this file and change the CID to my Vodafone branding (VODAP102) ... i uploaded on zippyshare.

DHD doesn't boot anymore
Hello everybody,
I'm new around here and also a noob when it comes to rooting Android devices. Anyway, I think I might have screwed my DHD while trying to root it. I downloaded the AAHK and followed the steps. I mean it shows the HTC logo on the white background, but then it turns black and only shows a picture of a phone and a red triangle. And that's it. Can I still save it? Please, help me!
