Anyone else have a problem where sometimes when they slide the keyboard out or close it and the phone just goes off. Is really annoying when you just type a long SMS press send and as you close the keyboard it it turns off and dousnt send the message.
PS: dousnt seem to do it when i try to make it lol, just randomly sometimes.
This is a bug or defect I've seen discussed by a few people on these forums before. Its not normal/typical behavior. Some have theorized that the ribbon cable connecting the tilt screen to the keyboard is damaged, but I don't know if there was any definitive proof of that.
Did you try to put a little piece of paper between the cover and the battery? Maybe the battery has a little space, so when you close your keyboard it can move? Had this problem with some old phones.

Hi all,
I'm having a few intermittent problems with my phone but before I start asking to have it swapped out, thought I'd check to see if they are just with my phone or if others have the same and if the latter, whether there are any workarounds. All are occasional but have happened enough times that it wasn't just a one-off glitch:
1 - using the physical keyboard when writing a text if I hold delete to get it to delete a sentence rather than pressing it repeatedly it deletes for a bit, then stops updating the display. You can keep pressing delete and it will delete characters, you can even move the cursor and delete characters from elsewhere but you need to close the keyboard and rotate the display before it updates the screen. While writing that it occurred to me I can't remember if other keypresses show up, whether holding any button pressed causes this, or whether it happens in apps other than the SMS app. Will try those later.
2 - wifi sometimes turns itself off for no reason. Not just not connecting or forgetting the password (although it occasionally does both of those too) but just disabling itself. I can pick the phone up to do something and notice no wireless icon and if I go into the communications part of settings, wireless is disabled and I need to reenable it for it to start working.
3 - the rotation sensor sometimes stops working and no screen rotations work. Sometimes restarting the phone doesn't help (but on that occasion shaking it and tapping it seemed to!) I once solved it by recalibrating the sensor (it froze a few days ago while I was using Teeter to demo the motion sensor to a friend) but it's not happened since then for me to try that again.
There are other niggles too, but those are things that I've already seen mention of - these three are things that I've not seen any other reference to but might be too minor or intermittent to be noted. Anyone else seen the same issues on another handset or is it just mine?
Cheers,
Steve.
It seems the magnet on our old kaiser cases make the tilt 2 screen turn on. We figured it out with a little help from the att sales guy cause the wife was getting pissed that every time she put the phone in the case, the screen turned on.
Cant seem to find any info about it, why it does this. Forget the sales people at the store. They dont know jack
I am also lookng for something that tells what the indicator lights should do. We get a solid left light for charge and a flashing left light for unread anything.
Though there should be a blue flash when blue tooth is enabled,
Judging by the kaiser,
Effects of Magnet on TP2
Yes I have Telstra model TP2 and i can confirm this behaviour as well with a case with magnetic clasp. Also I find that passing it by the magnet will also make TP2 go from portrait mode to landscape .I t can be very annoying because even locking TP2 makes no difference
It due to the keyboard sensor. The phone thinks you are sliding out the keyboard.
There is a patch to disable that "feature" (First thing i do when i install a new ROM)
Is it that or the stylus sensor?
Here's video...
To see this happening, here's a little video of the magnetic effect

Do you have a link for this patch?
yes, please link us to the patch.
here's the post I used (key info below, not much else in the actual post): http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=1093353&postcount=37
reg edit to disable the ''Slide Wake Up''
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Hardware\DeviceMap\Keybd] Create new dword "SlideWakeup" with value of 0 and soft reset.
To revert, delete the key or set it's data to 1
Hmmm, if thats the only way to stop the magnet problem, im not sure i am willing to do that. I like the slide to wake up thing.
well, the other way is a non-magnetic case
I just tried the above reg edit on my TP2 and it did indeed work as described on my unit. Thanks a lot eknutson
Just as an FYI, many if not all HTC devices with slide-out keyboards are like that. My Apache did it, my Kaiser did it, my TP2 does it.
It appears that the OEM case has a magnetic clasp (I just ordered an AT&T Tilt 2, which does not come with a case). Does the magnetic clasp on the OEM case cause the phone to turn on?
I would think a magnet is a magnet. OEM with magnets should see the same result.
I turned on my keyboard sound and ran the magnet over the tiny keypad and i heard the keyboard slide sound while the screen turned on.
I cannot reproduce it in my European pro 2. Am I doing something wrong, or is the case magnet too weak?
(I have lost the original case, and I have an EASECASE with 2 magnets now...)

Thanks for this reg edit....worked perfectly for me. I am a bit bummed I lost the wake to slide feature but the magnetic clasp is more important to me then a velcro case thus I'm willing to lose the wake up feature....thanks.
I tried this on my Tilt 2 and my magnetic case ans could not reproduce the issue. Maybe my magnets are too weak. Seem it may not be an issue for everyone.
True, the magnet issue may not be an issue for everyone - but it also applies if you open the keyboard just a tad while it's locked.
This was problematic for me when the phone was set to wake when the keyboard opens - it'll bypass the lock application (at least it did for me w/ my setup). Adding the reg value prevented me from accidentally unlocking the device when I'm trying to grab it out of the case - which while fumbling around you may tap the wrong part of the screen and can ignor an incoming call
Well, i have thought about this a little more. I am thinking, WHEN the heck do i grab my phone (while its sleeping) and pop the keyboard out to wake it up .... NEVER
I never slide the keyboard out unless there is a reason. ONLY when i am using the programs or get a notifacation. When i get a notifacation, the screen turns on, so ...
I guess i will be turning off the slide to wake after all, since i come to realize it is a useless feature to me anyways.
Okay I think I found another bug in the HTC sms program which I discovered today and wanted to see if its just me or anyone else. The other is hoping someone has a fix for a signal problem, and a solution for the third. I have the HTC EU Official ROM WinMo 6.5 with sense 2.1, and the phone is HardSPL.
1) I noticed today a bug in the HTC SMS program (I know who hasnt), but this doesnt seem to fall under anything I've read so far. Here the problem, When you click the contact icon on the slider bar it brings you to the flip contacts, when you click the contacts picture you go into their "profile" when you click the second sms icon here you can txt back and forth, now what I noticed is if you txt thru there when someone responds to a txt, the tone set (be it the default, or custom) doesnt ring completely. It rings for like a 1/4 of a second. I noticed this as I was txting a friend. Has anyone else have this or encountered this? This is completely different then not being notified of an incoming txt, but runs along the same possible reason why we dont get one.
2) I use a bluetooth 85% of the time, I have one major issue. I saw a possible fix, but I dont remember where or what site, but I dont know if its for this issue either. I normally keep my phone on my belt clip on the right side and the bluetooth on the right ear, but if I decide to move the earpiece to my left ear, the signal seems to get weak, and I start hearing crackling until; I move the earpiece back, or move the phone to the same side. Is there a cab or registry edit that improves the signal strength for this? I have two bluetooths, sony erricson and a Jabra V250, both have the same symptom.
3) Everytime I get a call or make a call, when I am talking the proximity sensor kicks in, which is fine, but everytime I move the phone away from my ear, thescreen isnt at the dialpad but at the black notification screen. I understand that if there was a txt, missed call event then thats fine, but when none of these exist its annoying. Is this by design or is this just something thats going to annoy me to hell and back?
Bumpy Bumpy...
Anyone?
Also I found I think another bug, I dont know if its been mentioned, if it has sorry, but has anyone realized that when the phone is on and at standby and the screen goes black that the volume keys still adjust the volume? I normally keep my phone in a leather case on my belt, and notice that when I bend down the buttons if hit will adjust the volume up or down, I ran into this by accident while bending down all of a sudden my phone vibrated briefly checked the phone and saw the volume was all the way down, thought maybe the screen was up and thats why it happened after the second time I tested it and sure enough you can adjust the volume. I know for a fact the Fuze never did that. Anyone else have this issue?

I don't know that this is related to your symptoms above, but several TP2 owners (myself included) have experienced the fact that this model seems to be particularly sensitive to cases with stronger magnets in the clasp...the magnets are just strong enough to trigger the magnetic switches in the phone that register when you slide open the keyboard, or remove the stylus. It drove me nuts for a while trying to figure out why my phone seemed to keep randomly turning itself on in the case, especially right when I was first sliding it in/out. I had thought it was because there were hardware buttons still active even when the screen was dark, but some thorough experimenting/testing proved the issue was due to the magnets....a conclusion that was confirmed by several other users once I actually bothered to go looking online for a solution (....after I'd spent hours figuring it out for myself lol). So, it might be the cause of your screen coming on and then the volume buttons are just the first ones that get pressed by your particular case and/or posture.
Unforutuately, I doubt there's any possible connection between that and your other issues...
I know there isnt any connection with the other issues, I just didnt want to make another post and have XDA shoot me for it.
Also I know about the magnet interference I read up on that long ago, but thats not my issue. I thought that was it, but I can do the same thing while holding the phone in my hands. So the magnet in the holder does not apply. I can have the home screen up, hit the power button to blackout the screen and then hold the volume down key and it will lower the volume cause by holding it down the phone will vibrate, when I turn the screen on, the volume is all the way down.

You get a shortened notification if the phone thinks you are looking at the screen when the message comes in. It would be nice if this could be turned off, but that is why.
The Pro2 isn't necessary 100% at fault with the Bluetooth problem. It can be a combination with your handsfree earpiece too.
Every Jabra unit I own has always exhibited this problem with every HTC phone I have. The first time I bought a Jabra I remember reading in the manual about their recommendation to keep the phone and earpiece on the same side of the body to avoid "interference" (referring to the body??). And if I'm listening to music through A2DP, and I move the phone to the other side of the body, the music cuts out too.
I also have an old Sony Ericsson HBH-660 and it doesn't have this problem if I wear it on the other side of the body, so it's appears both HTC phones and Jabras emit a weaker bluetooth signal.

My Sony Erricson is a HBH-GV435 And both the Jabra and the Erricson exhibit this behavior. I dont know where I read it, but I think there is a registry edit about improving the signal, unless it was something else and I read wrong, was hoping someone knew what I was talking about.
Zylograth,
I wouldnt want it turned off, if anything it should ring normally. And I think that maybe in connection to the possibility of the SMS alerts not coming in when the screen is off. I think its related somehow. But do you know where this shortened tone noticification is located?
But now what about the other behaviors? Anyone else have them?
The noticification screen is really starting to bug me with I move the phone away from my ear.
all was well with my Dinc except for I had 2 blown speakers. I ordered new ones from ebay and replaced both. After replacing both, the bottom of my screen seems to not be working correctly. Whenever I go into SMS and hit the bottom for the keyboard to come up, it doesn't. I try using Whatsapp and it does the same thing. Its weird because the "attachment" button on the bottom of a sms works fine. It might just be that bottom/middle area. Is there any way to fix this? I had a feeling once I removed those ribbons to replace my ear speaker It was gonna mess something up .
I'm on MIUI android 2.3.5.
Is there any fix to this? or am I gonna have to just live with it for awhile?
EDIT: forgot to add, when I'm in WhatsAPP and I try clicking the bottom to bring out the keyboard, it highlights the message a little bit above where the text box is at, so its not reading where I'm pressing correctly. Its reading a little higher when I press in the bottom/middle area of the screen. Hope I explained that well enough for you guys to understand
A quick way to test if your screen is buggered is to downloading a drawing app and try to draw on the parts of the screen that you think aren't working. If you can't draw there you either a.) didn't connect a ribbon all the way b.) damaged a ribbon c.) electrically damaged something.
or d.) terrible coincidence and your touchscreen was on its way out anyways
It might be time for a new touchscreen. I had a similar problem where my screen wouldn't respond to touch in certain parts. I never took apart my phone prior to that so it wasn't (i don't think) my doing. Replaced with a new screen and I was good to go.
Take apart your phone and disconnect/reconnect the ribbons to ensure they are on there good. If that doesn't solve it I'd say a new touchscreen is in your future
Hey guys, I've got two problems with my unrooted stock HOX , which both are touchscreen related
1. When I push a little harder on the upper right corner of the touchscreen while in lockscreen, the diplay recognizes 3 other inputs on the left side of the screen (all of them about 2cm apart from one another, sometimes there are even more inputs randomly placed) which are slightly shaking but always appear in the same places. When this occurs, the display doesn't recognize any other inputs for about 4-5 seconds, then the 3 faulty inputs disappear and touchscreen works again. Okay, this could be of the harder pressure but the thing is, that when I'm doing the same in my homescreen or somewhere else, it doesn't happen. The problem with this occurrence is, that I often can't unlock my phone immediately and it also appears when I get an incoming call, so I am unable to answer it the green circle won't react on my input. But the fact, that it only occurs in lockscreen makes me wonder if it could be a simple software error and not hardware.
2. Sometimes (usually in combination with problem number 1) a part of the diplay doesn't react to any input whatsoever, but the rest of the screen does. I usually recognized that while typing messages and the area affected is an about 1cm high horizontal strip which is located in the height of the letter A in the portrait keyboard and goes all over to the letter L (I hope you understand what I mean ). I made it visible via a painting programm and it's a perfectly straight area. But when I now turn the display off and on, everything is fine again, so this makes me think (and hope) that this is a software error too.
I tried factory resetting but this wouldn't work out, at least the first problem still occurs (did the reset yesterday, so I can't rule out, that the second one still exists). I don't want to send my HOX in again, because this one is apart from that very nice and has no other faults.
So the main question is: soft or hardware and what could I do against this?
Hope you guys can help!
