Would you be so kind and tell me how to video record on this device (HTC Desire)?
I go to Camera, choose video, format (for example 720p, MPEG4), then it sasy ''press optical trackball...'' (just like when i take photos).
Ok, when I press this optical trackball nothing happens.
So I assume I can't take videos.
This phone is 2 weeks old and I've updated it with 2.2 FOTA.
Not rooted.
Thanks in advance!
P.S. Would ''reset to factory defaults'' help?
Strange.
Do you have a microSD card installed?
Yeah, I have.
The one I got with the phone.
Samsung 4g, sdhc, Class 2 I think.
edit - Few hours ago I've tried reset to factory defaults and that didn't help.
Contacted HTC and will see their response.
But if any of you know what might be a problem, please help.
edit 2 - also tried another SDHC card, 8gb, clas 4.
Got the same problem.
I have video problem as well
whan I starts the video recording the phone stop working and for 10 seconds I get alarm sound the the phone restart
Hi. I have a similar problem. I cannot record videos although I can take pictures. For video recording when I press the trackball it disappears and after I stop pressing my figure the trackball appears and automatically adjusts the zoom and clicks like when it takes a picture but nothing happens. I can move the trackball around the screen. I have an 8 gb micro sd but the same problem was with the original card of 4 gb.
Think I have same problem
Cannot record videos with camcorder anymore.
Nothing happens when pressing trackball.
Exit to home is slow, and after a failed try, an application/service called "Mediaserver" takes cpu and drains battery.
Searched, but have not found any solution, only many more having the same problem.

If I am right, I read about this problem. Try to delete the last video you've recorded. Or remove all the content from your camera folder (sdcard/DCIM/100MEDIA) - in case first solution didn't work.
Thanks!
Deleted all pics, movies and thumbnails from sdcard/DCIM/100MEDIA.
Works like a charm, really thought it would be something more tricky.
Think the app needs a bugfix, one corrupt jpg-/3gp-file shouldnt break camera, camcorder and drain battery...thats bad error handling.
Thanks a lot for the tip!

Hello djboulette, I had the same problem: dropouts when turning display off and randomly while playing music. Also the system hung from time to time. The only way to solve the problem is to do a factory reset. To do this go to Settings->SD & phone storage->Factory data reset. I recommend to backup your phone because this wipes your entire phone memory. The system software and the files on the SD won't be touched.
I hope I could help you.
thank you for your reply, but problem occure with fresh install too.
But it's weird that nobody with froyo sense experiment the same problem.
Also i have a friend with froyo sense rom and same laggy sound bugg...
I have a very similar problem with the HTC Player. Besides of that everything seems to work fine. I don't have any hangs etc. I think the dropouts are happening when the SD card is accessed.
I tried MixZing and have very similar results. Maybe the SD card is too slow, no idea?
Hello, i don't think is the sd card too slow, because with 2.1 eclair no problem at all.
I have a class 4 16go Lexar card
and my friend class 6 16gb transcend card
It seems to me that the memory management changed. I'm not sure if as much cache is available to the music player as it was on 2.1. If this is the case the storage has to deliver faster. It's a long shot but I can see the same problem with different players and different tunes that used to work fine.

my htc music widget seems jumpy, when recving txts or using copoilot, when using coplilot espicially, the music seems to jump when i tap the screen
Hello, i found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723073.
I think all is linked, maybe the sd card gestion has changed, and perfomance too.
As in the signature of my posts, I have the stock ROM on my unrooted Desire. However, after the OTA update it occured to me. The sound of the music player dropped frequently. After I hard-resetted my Desire, it was gone. I could browse through my galleries without a single drop of the sound.
The thing with the SD or generally the file system speed of my Desire was never a problem. It was fast all the time. Maybe it had something to do with my goldcard or it was a coincidence. I don't know.
Sadly problem still here after factory reset.
Nandroid is my friend, but thank for your help ^^
Hard-resetted, formatted my SD card.
Still choppy. This is really sad.
Flash is rubbish, russian froyo has some localisation problems (like when i want to type space, it types "!" instead, yeah, that bad), SD card copying is slow, and music is laggy. I wish i've stayed on eclair.
I have no problem with Music Player, yesterday i've listen more than one hour and a half of continuous music playback without any kind of problem with some tasks in the background (Last.fm, Seesmic, Facebook, weather widget etc).

Did you tried to load gallery, or some apps that read to sd?
I tried so many ROMS (ap2sd+ or not), all with problem (Whatever the music player: spotify, 3, stock player, etc.)
Except with vanilla ROMS, music run smoothly.
I have a LEXAR 16gb micro SD, class 4, with ext3 partion.
I also had the problem on Froyo, and traced or back to a widget I was using. Pure calendar. Not saying the widget is faulty, but it seems that the widget and maybe other widgets that call on processor power regularly may affect the music player. Changing the settings on the widget sorted the problem. See if there is a process or widget that is polling regularly, and that may be your problem. To be honest, on a multitasking phone with a processor like ours, this shouldn't be an issue, but hey...I may be wrong. Not sure if it will help you guys, but hope it will.

I tried different combination, even with no widget at all, and no running apps on backround, same problem.
I'd restore a old nandroid backup of my eclair stock rom, no problem a all, even with a tonne of widget and running apps.
HTC froyo for sure...
I'm getting the same problem only since the ota update. Listening to music as I'm writing this and its fine but as soon as I access photos the music becomes laggy. I have a 4gb class 6 sd card so can't be the speed of that. I'm using task manager and there is loads if free memory... strange.
Can I ask aswel, the people who are having this problem, have you tried recording in 720p. I tested his out earlier and it seemed to record fine but The playback is really poor. Very jerky and laggy.
What transfer speed are you getting from the class 6 card? Measured on the phone, not on a pc.

Ok I have just tested my mem card. It states class 6 on the card although the app that I used says 4mbps write and 6mbps read. The app states that this its a class 4 card so can't see that being the problem.
Any ideas anyone

I just noticed that when try recording 720p video on my SRF 1.1.0 Epic, it FCs at around 10 seconds. I seem to recall reading on here it could be an SD card issue, but before I go and reformat my card, I wanted to know if anyone had found an alternative solution to fix the problem.
Rarely use the video camera, so it's not the end of the world having this issue, but it'd still be nice to get it fixed for when I do need it.
Also, it seems to work on lower resolutions, just not 720p.
Almost like my SD card can't keep up with the data rate of 720p video.
EDIT: just occurred to me I didn't mean FC, it just says recording failed.
on stock desire, 720p playback on moboplayer or rockplayer, the same 720p videos were runnning smooth (only some rare very brief freeze at times) but on cyanogen using moboplayer, 720p; the video runs very very slowly and sound is totally out of sync.. what settings do i need to change to get playback as smooth as on stock rom??
edit: thought cm7 was supposed to be better than stock rom in terms of performance...
no one has this same problem?
i've had similar problem. let me say first that video recording worked great on unrooted device, then on rooted with stock rom, then on InsertCoin 2.0.1. rom, then back on stock rom (i went back with clockworkmod recovery), then again on Insercoin for a week or so...(don't ask, i did some experimenting )...
but then all of a sudden, after a full week on Insertcoin ROM, without me installing something new or fiddling around, out of the blue, video recording went loco. everything looked ok while recording but when playing video would pause every few seconds, then quickly catch on, then pause again, and so on...as if sd card couldn't catch up writing the video. but that couldn't be the case because everything worked fine before. i forgot to mention, both 720p and 800x480 recording didn't work...
i didn't try removing setcpu app and defragmenting sd card. instead i went back to unrooted stock rom and now everything works fine again. now i'm little tired to root and flash any custom rom over again. if anyone has the idea what went wrong please share...thx!

i will try defragmenting sd card. If it does not work, will switch back to stock rom. Got some other issues with cyanogenmod 7 also.... it is not as great as everyone keeps to say...
today recorded video started pausing again. i forgot to mention it earlier, but i bought new 8GB class 4 SD card and it didn't help. i don't think defragmenting will work (at least for me). it seems that this prob might be hardware related...

i read a few threads on this issue and it seems to me that it's because of gingerbread which does not have the necessary codecs... let's just wait for official gingerbread and see if it works again...
i have tried cyanogen 7 (android 2.3) and miui (android 2.3).. in both roms 720p lags
thx for suggestions, guys. but i'm on stock froyo rom. i'll try removing some apps and see if it's related. after i flashed back stock rom it all worked fine, but now it pauses again. i removed poweramp and rockplayer but no luck. i really don't want to remove all downloaded apps all over again....any other suggestion?
720p works fine for me. Maybe hardware issue?
i have some update on the stuff. today i uninstalled all apps i've downloaded since buying the phone, including the updates to it's native gmail and facebook apps. after that, i restarted the phone and voila, video recording worked again, smooth and steady.
so i went to install all apps again, one by one, and after each one i tried video recording again. the result was that after some apps video was recorded with pauses, and after some it wasn't. so i uninstalled those apps again and tried video recording, but it didn't help. then i went to install them back again but not in the same order as the first time. again video was fine after installing some apps and not fine after the others. but, it didn't pause after installing some apps for the second time, the same apps which i have installed the first time when video was recorded with pauses. so it seems it's not app related after all.
but, after so much installing and uninstalling it became clear that video recording worked flawlessly after each phone reboot. at some point after rebooting the phone video begun to record with pauses again. after some more testing i can confirm that this occurs after installing new (any) apps. as long as i don't install anything, video will record normally. i cannot possibly imagine what can cause such behavior, but for now it seems to be the pattern. i hope it'll help some of you with the same problem. but nevertheless this shouldn't happen at all. i have sent a ticket to HTC support, maybe they'll come up with a more permanent solution.

720p video playback is smooth on your cm7? i have tried cm7 and miui (gingerbread) and 720p video is slow and out of sync with the audio
seems it's related with your sd card.. what class are you using? i think the more apps u have installed, the speed at which sd card is accessed is slower.... my 720p recording/playback is not smooth as well, i have like 60-70 apps installed (lol), that's probably why
I have some issues with my Desire Bravo so I want to ask is this for repair or not, he is still under warranty.
When I'm typing message vibration often suddenly stop working, but when I shake phone a little bit It works again, and that only happend when I'm texting. Second problem is when I'm recording a video (720p), like 40 secounds or more, and when I'm watching it, video lags on some parts of the recorded session, and that lag appears for just a secound, and then video continue to roll normally, sometimes lag appear more than once in same session. I have stock 2.3.3 GB rom 16Gb Adata class 10 microsd card, phone never fell or anything like that.
no one to suggest something...
Hello everyone. I have few problems, as far tried PA, CM7 and CM10.
1. flash videos
when using browser, I can't really use any flash player. I mean, I can see the player and the button, but when "play" is clicked there is a short blink when "play" switches to "pause" but then it comes back in 1 second and still it looks like nothing was clicked.
2. camera
when I turn on my camera, sometimes everything in preview looks like this:
i32.tinypic[dot]com/dd27fn.png
so, when I use it for a while it turns to normal but when camera restarted it comes back.
When I try to record videos, it is horribly lagging. Also, the recorded videos lag as well.
3. youtube
it is about youtube application - normally, videos play just fine. but when i tap the screen to see the video length bar it starts lagging and blinking.
4. unlock screen
so basically in normal situations the unlock screen shows up shortly after clicking the power button, as it should, but when I want to check the clock shortly after I turn the screen off (it means I click the power button twice within few seconds) it shows up after about 5 seconds or doesn't show at all
5. mSDHC
When putting things onto SD card, sometimes it says "can't find file" and it just stops. Doesn't happen when using adapter.
And sometimes the phone says "SD damaged", tried with 2 sd cards and don't know whether it's phone or card.
Please help, I'm total newbie in rooting.
You're trying new and "in progress" ROMs. If you want 100% stability, stick with gingerbread. Oxygen 2.3.2 is rock solid.
First 3 issues are present in ICS/JB ROM's only, if you want something stable stick to GB ROM's.
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
These issues may be due to unstable ROMs. Use GB Roms like Oxygen or Miui and it should be fine.
Thanks! That helped.
The problem has been solved so you can close the thread.
I wrote about this problem on PA forum and nobody helped me, they didn't know what's wrong.
Now I have only problems with my SD card, but will test some other cards and eventually post a new thread soon.
