if i root my desire with hboot 0.83, soft number 1.24.161.3 using unrevoked, ill get clockwork mod recovery and be able to flash custom/offical unbranded unrooted roms ?
Yes, this is exactly what I have done. I was having trouble with the windows version of unrevoked3, However the linux version worked perfectly.
awsome, thanks. maybe ill try it tomorrow then. apart from problem with unrevoked did you run into any other problems?
No I've not run into any problems as of yet.
After using unrevoked I flashed this ROM:
hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775 ( Sorry I can't post links)
I made sure that I flashed the radio ROM first though to ensure that I didn't suffer the SIM lock issue which can affect Orange UK users with this update so if you Orange you might want to make sure you that first as well.

Hi, I`m a complete NOOB when it comes to Android, had my HTC Desire a few days now, it came pre-instaled with Vodafone UK bloatware on it.
As far as I know it the OLED version, on box says model A8181
Currentley i have Software v1.24
Hboot v0.83
ALL on a sim locked to vodafone UK.
I was looking at a guide on a different forum for De-branding the Desire.
I have made a Goldcard already
It seems ok but have a few questions:
Is hboot v0.83 ok to begin with for the process ?, i thought v0.80 was the best one ?
I was looking at the Un-revoked3 guide....would the ROOT with that app be done first ?, OR Is it a NEW process after the de-brading ?
thanks
All you'll need is a goldcard. See:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741836
thanks.
Done the Goldcard, looks like the Hboot 0.83 (which I have) is ok from what I can tell, one of my main Questions,
Also can I just ROOT after Installing froyo update, is the unrevoked app ok?, will it mean Re-installing a ROM or does it `add-onto` an existing install ??
cheers.

Don't install Froyo as that'll flash Hboot to 0.92. unrEVOke now and flash a ROM from the Dev forum. There is a rooted stock HTC 2.2 there if you're just looking for Froyo + Root.
I'm using LeeDroid 1.8 ROM on my previously VF bloatwared Desire ('unrevoked' to root), very happy.
Ummm ok, I have tried loads of times to do the De-brand, apparentley the VF software v1.24 I have stops De-branding as it just times out the Bootloader...it eventually gives a `usb error 171` every time.
I tried with the phone set as both usb mode or sync mode makes no difference,
I looked into the Unrevoked 3.1 program and apparentley its not working with Hboot v0.83.
Code:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748618
try this guide!
Is that 1 ok for OLED Screens like mine though?, also am I OK in ROOTING whlle it still vodafone BRANDED ?
ok....just read the guide linked, IF that works, will I be able to put Offcial HTC ROM + froyo update?, or does it have to be pre-rooted ROM ?
thanks.
You can download stock froyo Rom here and just use that

Hello everybody,
i´m new here and i´m searching for a way to make a SLCD Desire stock.
I wanted to install cyanogen 6, but got a black screen after installing.
because of this i used clockwork recovery to install a custom rom with SLCD support, but now i want to install stock ROM.
Could anybody tell me where to find it? I dont understand everything here, please keep it simple^^
Thank you
From which country/carrier did you get your Desire? That might help.
I don't own a Desire but this thread could be of use:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748498
Thank your for posting this link.
I already fixed my problem.
I used this site hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=749551 to fix it, but I had a lot of problems while making the GoldCard.
But I will give some more information for others having this problems.
My gf´s Desire is a German T-Mobile one, buyed yesterday.
Hboot is 0.75, but everybody says it must be higher if its SLCD, but it is wrong.
It really is a SLCD.
Installed was Android 2.1 but i don´t know the exact version number.
I rooted with unrevoked and this was a big mistake. After installing clockwork mod recovery the screen was black in recovery. I seachred long and found the SLCD version, installed it via unrevoked by using custom recovery.
Then installed cyanogen, second mistake. Cyanogen doesn´t support SLCD.
By using recovery installed OpenDesire, worked fine but wasn´t what i wanted.
Made GoldCard about 10 times (didn´t work), then used GoldCardTool and installed RUU from link posted on top.
After a short time of sleep phone wanted to install update to 2.2, working for now.
May i should post a new topic because of hboot 0.75 and SLCD?
Hi, im a bit stuck here, I have a telstra desire with their 2.1 rom, and a hboot of 0.83.0001 it seems to be able to install clockworkmod ok, and I can get into it but when I install a custom rom, after the reboot, it sticks on the telstra splash screen and vibrates 7 times. at this point if I try to boot into recovery it also does the same thing, the only way to recover is to go into fastboot and update the official telstra RUU again.
I have tried the latest Modaco rom and the latest Leedriod rom, both same effect.
this is exactly what I did to install Leedriod:
install clockworkmod from unrevoked3
copied these 2 files to SD:
32.46.00.32U_5.10.05.17_2.zip
LeeDrOiD_V2.1a_NoA2SD.zip
boot into clockworkmod, Erased Data, into advanced, erased davlik cache
install from zip > choose zip to install > chose LeeDriod > installing......
once that finished, I installed the radio, then chose reboot from the clockworkmod menu.
it rebooted and got a little picture of a box and an arrow coming out of it for a few seconds, then I got the telstra spash screen and 7 vibrates.
has anyone got any idea where im going wrong? I cant seem to find any information and im a bit of a noob to android, just defected from the world of WM (Tytn2)
ok so I have done a little bit of trial and error, turns out my problem is the radio.
Tried 2 different radio roms, both end up stopping the phone from booting at all. must be something different to the hardware in this new desire that needs a special radio rom maybe?
jayme,
You've likely hit the nail on the head with your issue. Telstra models of the Desire (8183) use a different set of radio hardware. Telstra runs their own 'Next G' network, which is a different frequency network to the rest of the world.
This frequency (850Mhz) requires different hardware to be installed on the phone, which is why the Telstra version of the phone will only ever work on the Telstra network.
My suggestion would be to find a rom that supports the 850Mhz network, using a compatible radio module. Failing that you may have to learn how to build your own.
Good luck.
I actually installed the leedriod froyo rom fine and it works as long as I leave the original radio module untouched, but then I get the stability issues associated with running earlier radios on froyo. what im wondering is what are all these other telstra users running custom froyo roms using for their radio. ive read guides taht say which radio to install on a telstra desire and mine just doesnt work with those versions.
I may have to wait for the official telstra 2.2. update and the compatible radio rom that comes with it
Waiting sounds like your only option. I bought an unbranded phone to use on the Optus network. Thankfully Froyo 2.2 came out a few weeks back, and I'm quite happy with it.
Waiting can be a pain in the arse and considering how long this country has to wait for things from Telstra, getting 2.2 might be a belated Christmas present next year...
Good luck with whatever you chose.
Try teppic74's Rom here <forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997>.
I had full success and converted my Telstra branded Desire into generic HTC Desire.
NextG functionality was not affected by flashing teppic74's Rom with the Radio.
Cheers
Wow... so many people commenting that the Telstra (A8183) requires different radios etc...
Wrong.
I bought a Telstra A8183 and rooted it, installed clockworkMod, then have installed several versions of Leedroid through 2.1a, and have recently also applied the S-OFF hack and changed the splashscreen.
I've also flashed about 4 different radios up to the latest as of today without any problems.
My particular phone is an AMOLED model and came with HBOOT 0.75 - however many people with different versions of the HBOOT (anbd including SLCD) with the Tesltra hardware have successfully upgraded.
Sorry I don't know what your particular problem could be - but it's not something specific to all Tesltra A8183 Desires.
Cheers - N
Hi there. Another telstra desire user here. I've had mine since July, amoled and hboot 0.83. I rooted soon after getting it and have run roms from t-mod and cyanogen from whirlpool.net.au. it's. A great place to start and lots of awesome advice too. I wouldn't be here if not for muskier, Bog, and s-murphy. They have links to radio and roms there. Good luck.

well turns out the 2 radios I flashed happen to be the 2 radios my phoen wont boot with. both of them have _2 at the end. all the rest seem to work fine, I have since updated to the latest radio and im a happy froyo user. as for t-mod, wtf is the point of it lol, my UAstring is not the special telstra one and everything works fine, even data usage

How did you do the S-OFF hack? I really want to get rid of the splashscreen...

+1 to talkiet...
I've had about 15 different ROMS and maybe 8 radios on my telstra desire, never had a problem. (mine is the AMOLED version originally HBOOT .75 now .93 version). The only thing that sometimes goes wrong is the APN settings and thats easy to fix.
I'm not sure how all those UA strings work, but to be honest i've not bothered checking my data usage or so on for a fair while, and the Bigpond unmetered sites are pretty worthless anyway. I never go over and I play around with the phone a lot. So, you can put pretty much any ROM on and just tweak the APNs a bit and no worries!
concerning S_OFF,
its not hard to do at all. just follow the instructions on the alpharev site to the letter, I was worried about bricking my phone, same as the first time I put a custom ROM on there, but if you do your homework, you'll be sweet. When you think about it, the S-OFF process is pretty safe as so many people do it and have a look about, there's not many saying they have ruined their phone using the S-OFF program.
The only thing i've actually broken on my phone over the last year is the sd card (very recently), trying to reformat it for data to ext ROM. Of course it was a cheap one and the card that came with the phone (samsung brand i think) worked fine when i formatted it and stuck it in.
Phone: Desire A8183 AMOLED S-OFF
HBOOT .93 and CWM 3.x
ROM: Crystal Kingdom v0.2 D2EXT+ (damo is a legend!!)
htc a8183 show welcom and vibrating
how to s-off this phone
hboot-0.75.0000
radio-4.50.00.11
any one help me
For all of you having branded phones, go to htc dev site and download 2.3 RUU and flash it. You will get 0.93 hboot and newer radio plus the phone will be debranded, because 2.3 upgrade is made for all versions: amoled, slcd...
After that s-off and root is very easy, use revolutionary and you will have everything...

For me it's the easiest way to upload radio and hboot, get s-off with revolutionary then root and you're open to all possibilities...
That RUU is simply made for all Desires, no brick issues, no radio compatibility issues...
I purchased my Desire back in June and as soon as i found out about rooting
i used the one click unrevoked 3 method. Due to it being unbranded i didnt need a gold card i simply did so. After which i had problems installing some roms and its become too difficult so ive decided to unroot it and use it as it was meant to be until i gain more knowledge.
My problem is no matter which RUU i use following the unlocker method nothing works. I continue to get the error that none of the RUUs are suitable for my phone.
I have looked through the other posts but couldnt find an answer that worked for me.
my radio is 32.44.00.32u_5.09.05.30_2
Im running AuraxTSense 7.6.1 Froyo FRF91 by NeoPhyTe
Can anyone help me?

Hi,
Is your Hboot 0.93 ?
try this RUU : http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.exe
Enter bootloader (vol.dw+power), then plug the phone to USB and run the RUU it should work...
Have u installed HTC Sync again after using unrevoked?
U need the htc drivers installed
Have u tried LeeDroid?
Running stable and fast in my Desire, I rooted nd unrooted the phone twice, but every time i go back to unroot status i get bored, so root again, i think u should try another ROM first before unroot, try mine : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768703
Download de ROM,
Install thru ROM Manager or directly thru Recovery, but remember to Wipe data before u install make a clean install, if u still experience any issues go back to Stock...
My Hboot is 0.93.0001
Ill try the RUU tomorrow when i have enough time at my disposal
Although ill try leedroid first just in case. Hopefully it works and is good enough
thanks for the help
Just curious, but did it work?

You need to enter FASTBOOT (back + power) to run an RUU outside of Android
hi guys, as mentioned i am interested in rooting my desire.... below are some details of my desire and questions
- i bought a 2nd hand desire ( i suspect its rooted before *forgot to check* cos it has the superuser icon
- its running the bravo PVT4 S-on currently. Hboot 0.93.0001 Aug 12 2010
- current version: Froyo WWE 2.13.707.2 (suspected the user has applied OTA update) release 274424, baseband version 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2
-------heres comes my question------
rooting should be simple (from what i read using unrevoked)
i will be using unrevoked and creating a goldcard just incase...i will read the rest up.
1) how to remove the superuser icon when i unroot?
2) considering this has the OTA update can i use the official RUU and unroot without issues?
3) will my apps be there after i root?
4) how abt if i restore using rom manager wif the backup i create once after i root, will the apps be there?
PS i am totally new to android and its my first android phone and i dun wanna brick it....i also believe there are alot of nice people here as i have been here since the Touch HD days
1 & 2. You can only unroot by flashing the stock RUU, and I'm pretty sure the one you're on doesn't exist. You can try the .1 RUU on Shipped-ROMs but don't know if it'll work
3. Yes
4. Yes

yup, the current one has no official RUU cos i believe its the OTA update
the RUU i can find is 2.13.707.1 (and afew differences) now my concern is if i wanna unroot using this RUU will it work or will it have any complications?
(take note that i am rooting on 2.13.707.2, and some differences in some other numbers)
any help?
thanks
Unless I am mistaken your phone is already rooted. The only way to have the superuser app is if you are rooted.
It should work but I dont think anyone will be able to 'guarantee' it!

Why not return it to stock WWE version by using RRU and start from there?
You will need a goldcard and probably for it not to be SIM-locked.
