[q] bootloader version error... - Desire General

So, I'm trying to debrand myu Desire, using an RUU file. My ROM is 1.24.161.3 and HBOOT 0.80. I have a branded Vodafone Desire, that recently got a pointless update (not Froyo!!).
For the past couple of days I've been trying to debrand, already done the gold card and am ready for the next step, however, whenevery I run the RUU file it says that there is a USB connection error, run the RUU file again and it works till it is "Updating Signature", then it stops, with a "BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR"
My theory on this is because my ROM is 1.24.161.3 and every other RUU file I've used has a lower ROM number.
Am I right, or is there something I am doing wrong?

Are you using the right hoot root method?

[Q] Stuck unbranded desire after flashing RUU file

Hi,
I really hope someone is able to help me out - i cannot use my desire......
Since i bought my desire it has been unable to install the OTA updates. It always fails during the installation which has been really anoying since i really want to upgrade the system.
That caused me to start playing around, trying to upgrade using update.zip files with different versions. That unfortunately didn't work, usually with a message:
-------------------
Installing update…
assert failed: file_getprop(“/system/build.prop”, “ro.build.fingerprint”) == “htc_wwe/htc_bravo/bravo/bravo:2.1-update1/ERE27/174215:user/release-keys” || file_getprop(“/system/build.prop”, “ro.build.fingerprint”) == “htc_wwe/htc_bravo/bravo/bravo:2.2/FRF91/218634:user/release-keys”
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
-------------------
Investigating the installed system on my desire I found that my version of the build.prop was containing bravo:2.1-update1/ERE27/155070, eg. probably not compatible with any of the supported versions in the assert message above.
So... I tried installing via RUU files, but this has caused my phone to be stuck on the green HTC logo!
The RUU files i tried was:
1) RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_122704.exe
then (when the above didnt work):
2) RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe
I can still boot in HBOOT and i can still install RUUs, but nothing seems to work...
One more thing... My phone is an unbranded phone...
Please (!!!) help... I'm completely lost at this point!

Put your phone into fastboot mode by starting with back key + power button. Then run the Froyo RUU above.

trying now... i chose fastboot on the Desire, then on pc clicked the exe.
It shows:
From version: 2.09.405.8
To version: 2.09.405.8
Clicking next.... waiting...
Now says Congrats...
Then restarts... green update icon appears on phone... restarts again but then shows the Green HTC logo. (
Is your phone NOT branded or DEbranded?
Try installing an RUU using a goldcard.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick replies...
Yes, it's never been branded. I bought it and have always been able to use any kind of simcard in the phone == unbranded i guess...
Regarding the goldcards... Isn't that only for branded/simlocked phones?
Thx!

I have a debranded phone. I can update OTA only by having a goldcard inserted or else i get problems and restarts. Are you sure yours is not debranded? Also branded does not always mean locked. It just have personalized firmware.

Ok, I cannot be sure. At the store i guess they could have debranded it, but I've always been able to use any kind of simcard.
Hmm, how can I tell if it's branded or not?
Just cause you can use any SIM card doesn't mean it's not branded - Vodafone Desires are SIM unlocked but are still branded in terms of not having the same product code (e.g. 2.10.161.2 as opposed 2.10.405.2)
I don't think there is a way to see if it was originally branded, but usually debranded phones have problems with OTA updates. In any case just make a goldcard and retry installing the RUU. Another thing: for how long have you waited on the HTC green logo screen? Sometimes updating takes very long time.

Ok, so what do I do?
Before flashing with RUU files I could see my versions being:
1.15.405.4
and Radio:
4.05.00
Only thing that i found kinda odd was the "bravo:2.1-update1/ERE27/155070" that I found in my build.prop. Could that be a branded version of something...?
Even if i get a goldcard i guess i still have to find the right RUU file?

No, with a goldcard you just use whatever RUU you like.

Ok, I'll go get a MicroSD card reader and a spare MicroSD card now (YES... It's that important)..
I'll be back in a jiffy...
One more thing. I've used whatever installer that comes with the exe files, but it doesn't allow me to go back from the Froyo version I've installed. Can i just apply the same file again with the exe installer or do I need to do something else once i have the goldcard?
The one i installed: http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...3.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe
Thanks for all your help so far!
Here there are instructions for downgrading but in any case you need a goldcard. Better try applying the same file again. Again, are you sure you waited enough on green HTC icon?
How are you checking the build.prop on a stock ROM? You can't see any of that if updating via an RUU

I mean... Via the ASTRO file manager i checked the /system/build.prop of the already system before updating. That was an attempt to troubleshoot the reason for getting the error message "assert..." (see first post). That error message referred to the reason not being able to install the update.zip (before i started playing with RUU files) -> being that my system/build.prop contained a version not compatible with the one in the update.zip.... I hope i'm making sense
Anyways... off to buy a new microSD. Will a MicroSDHC card work ok?
ERE27 is Android 2.1 so that's right, it should update to show FRF91 once running 2.2
I'd follow this guide to get back to stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
And then look to root after wards...if it doesn't work (CID error or something) then you'll need a goldcard and you have a 'branded' Desire

[Q] Problems installing stock RUU WWE Rom. Any help?

Hi, everyone.
Got a Desire 2.1 update-1 branded by Orange ES. Hboot is 0.83. Dunno if it's SLCD or OLED, does it matter anyway?
Used unrevoked to successfully root and installed a custom recovery (unrevoked standard). Right after this the phone wouldn't go past the HTC logo but I could still get recovery screen. I tried a recovery but it didn't work either. From there I tried installing RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe (which is the one I want to upgrade from to stock Froyo2.2) but I got a problem in the middle of the installation ( installer says I needed to use the proper file for my phone). Then I used the recovery screen to install a custom ROM, AuraxTSense Froyo and that worked (have it on right now) but from this ROM the RUU WWE installer doesn't work either.
Any suggestions?
You'll need a gold card to use the stock RUU file - otherwise your phone doesn't pass the CID check because it's branded...

i did flash my phone using stock RUU WWE Europe (as far as i can remember) and thinking to flash WWE Asia... i cant get 3G/GPRS/MMS settings in my carrier.. im thinking if flashing WWE Asia ROM could solve the problem...
Quite possibly yes, and yes you can re-root with unrEVOked once done
thanks again EddyOS ill flash right away
Ok, so now I did a goldcard and the process seems to go a bit further but it stops. It says "Error 104, wrong hboot version - please install the correct version for your mobile phone". Any answers?

That now means the HBOOT version you have is newer than the one in the ROM you're trying to flash...What ROM are you trying to flash?
EDIT: If it's still the one in your OP then chances are you'll need the stock 2.10.405.2 RUU to get the generic ROM on the handset. You can get it by clicking on the version on my signature

[Q] unable to downgrade or root

i performed an OTA (Froyo) update on my phone and now i'm unable to root or downgrade so i can root.
i tried the downgrading method from here and i get an "incorrect cid" error
using unrevoked3 doesn't work, the process takes a long time and the phone just boots normally and it says "root failed"
i tried using a RUU and eventually ended up with an "wrong or incorrect cid" error too
so i'm guessing it's some error with the CID or something else i'm missing. how do i determine which is the suitable RUU for my CID? and how can i determine if my phone is CDMA or SLCD?
i'm not sure what to do now. i can post my phone info if needed.
What ROM version are you using at the mo?
stock HTC desire ROM
Baseband version 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Software number 2.32.415.3
Not seen an RUU with that version so you'd have to debrand (using a gold card) and then root that instead...the CID error is because you're not using a gold card
As for other questions:
- You're GSM, not CDMA, as you use a SIM card in your Desire
- Screen types are SLCD or AMOLED. New Desires (built August onwards) tend to be SLCD so you can only use RUUs with versions 2.x.xxx.x onwards (unless otherwise stated)
i still have to use a gold card even though the phone is unbranded? i'll give it a try i guess. i wanted to avoid making a goldcard but i guess i'm running out of options.

If you get incorrect CID that means that your phone is branded, hence the goldcard
If you're phone was unbranded you'd be on version x.xx.405.x - anything is either a region variant or branded. Most debranding guides use the WWE ROM (x.xx.405.x)
yeah it could be a region specific phone, that would explain the ROM version and the CID errors. but its definetely not branded, no extra software on it and its works with any network. does that mean i have to debrand, downgrade and then root?
Just have to debrand, use 2.10.405.2 and flash it with a gold card and then root - no downgrade required
- Insert a Goldcard
- Flash this using this RUU:RUU_Bravo_Froyo_Vodafone_UK_2.33.161.2_Radio_32.49 .00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157522_signed.exe
see this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...=853178&page=3
then u can root it using unrevoked if u dont have goldcard dowload this file http://www.mediafire.com/?pby74hjgv9t9tmu put it on the sd card turn the mobile off then press volume up while keeping it pressed press the power button then it will go HBOOT then PB99IMG.zip will flash ur desire u can root it again using unrevoked.
Why would they want to flash a Vodafone UK ROM onto their phone?? Bad advice, there...
Get the one from my signature of you still want to be unbranded
This one 2.29.405.2 WWE will not work on desire with RUU ARA_2.32.415.3 this the only way to root the device again pls see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853178&page=3
So why did you post the Vodafone UK one before? And how do you now the EU is on that ROM?? It doesn't matter which you use so long as you have a gold card

Yea..
I think his best bet is to downgrade using Teppic's utility to the WWE 1.720 and then upgrade to whatever version of his ROM is avilable on Shipped roms. And root. And..I have yet to see Unrvoked failing on any software version.
Use a goldcard while using Teppic's utility too. That will bypass the CID check
Why downgrade at all? So long as you're on ANY stock ROM you can root it. Downgrading is completely unneccessary
believe me I got this RUU ARA_2.32 I ve tried all the methods u mentioned here only the vodadafone RUU could resolve this problem all other methods gave different kind of errors without any success.
Of course it'll work, if not THEN use Teppic's downgrade tool and flash whatever ROM you want

Would help if you could describe the "different errors"..
The solution could have been anything starting from incorrect drivers..
I think I know what he's trying to say, he wants me to use the vodaphone one as a stepping stone before moving on to an unbranded ROM and rooting. But won't that still require a gold card anyway since its not the same version ROM?

[Q] Restore my HTC Desire back to stock

Hello All
Sorry if this has been asked before I didn't see it anywhere.
I rooted then upgraded my HTC Desire to Oxygen 2.3 but to be honest not impressed I use my mobile for my business and I just need it to work ..and well it dosent.
So please can someone let me know how I re-install the original ROM and OTA updates enabled. Im with Vodafone in the UK and would be most grateful for some help.
Thanks
Paul
Did you "Nandroid backup" before flashing Oxygen?
If you want ro use stock with OTA updates, you have to flash the original ROM with the RUU. There are the shipped RUUs in the Desire Developement section.

I have had my desire with LeeDroid on it as far back as I can remember, but recently my phone just keeps restating when it gets slightly warm, browsing GPS ect trigger it. It's not the ROM as it's happened before in recovery too. Needs to go back to warranty........
So, I need to convert back to standard, I'm going to do this after the phone has been in the fridge for a while so it doesn't cut out during flashing!
Mines a Vodafone desire, but I never remember any branding on it, or on the box and no voda apps I can think of.
Currently on 32.56.00.32U _ 5.17.05.08
Should I go for a voda specific or an unbranded? If so, can some kind soul point me in the direction of said ROM?
If you did not have a branding, no need to install a branded ROM.
Usually you find all the ROMs at shipped-roms dot com slash index.php QuestionMark category=android And model=Bravo

Pretty sure you have to use the goldcard method, as your hboot version is newer than the one you are flashing.

Hi I have the same problem. im using 0.93 locked to t-mobile, I tried the goldcard on the only Ruu that matched which was non of the t-mobile ones and it failed customer ID error, I have also tried the downgrade method and it failed on CID check I have redone the goldcard several times and still no joy.
currently I have reloaded the t-mobile Rom recovery file from clockworkmod I backed it up on root before I flashed a custom rom and bellow is the version numbers im using atm.
hboot 0.93
Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Software 2.12.110.4
I also loaded stock Rom 2.2 with the latest software 2.29.405.2 and .5 using the same baseband and both errored out Im only a novice at this and Ive prob spent a day in total and a load of dead end results on forums, pulling my hair out on this as I dont understand some of the terminolgy at best of times and all I get is "like the above" yeah it will work doing this. I have tried everything and nothing works ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!
Just download and install the newest OTA-Update by T-Mobile. After this procedure your phone should be un-rooted.

Yes, this error means, your are using the wrong RUU. You really have to use a RUU from T-Mobile, your software-number (2.12.110.4) clearly shows this. So in your RUU name has to be the combination "TMO_UK". And do not forget to compare the radioversion.
I did the exactly that ^^^ after finally getting the goldcard to work, it loaded through the whole process of loading the T-mobile uk ruu and now my phone is buggered I get a blank screen it vibrates on and the keys light up. now its flashed the whole thing, its wiped my recovery so I cant even enter blind and reload previous Rom.
I dont think I can fix this as Unrevolked wont work as phone is stuck in usb charge mode. Ive have no idea how to fix this as it seems very few people have 0.93 hboot with blank screen issue as well as getting 130 or 140 errors on every ruu exept the t-mobile ones that buggered my phone in the first place. All ive returned on a fix is load anouther exe ruu and reflash but I cant because it errors 130 cid on all of them.
plz help I have no idea what to do.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING PROPER RUU... GSM FOR GSM PHONE CDMA FOR CDMA PHONE
run the ruu but do not continue and do not close...
go to temp folder where files extracted and copy or move rom.zip to desktop
(tmp folder varies for windows operating system.. windows xp C:\documents and setting\(user folder)\local settings\tmp\(folder with letters and numbers.. just look in them) )
rename rom.zip PB99IMG.zip and move to root of sd card
boot into hboot;(With power off hold down volume button and press power; do not release volume down untill screen lights up).. wait for parsing file then press volume up to confirm install files.
it will reboot and continue do not pull battery!!
