Hi All,
Old Winmo User here, glad to be back on XDA-Dev after a stint with a Moto Milestone.
I picked up a Desire yesterday. I love most of the HTC tweaks. I like the black theme and glossy skins more than stock android.
However, I can't seem to sync a Facebook account, only 'Facebook for HTC Sense'.
One of my favourite things on the Milestone was being able to click on someone's photo in any app and have the option to contact them via facebook, twitter , gmail, gtalk etc. This has gone on the Desire. I also liked being able to jump to a contact card straight from the Facebook and Twitter app, but this option has gone now too. The integration, which is the shining point of Android is missing on the Desire.
I think the problem is possibly because the default contacts.apk is missing, and the godawful HTC one is there instead, so Facebook and Twitter don't know what to sync with. Is this right?
I have found the contacts.apk from this thread however I can't install it. Is this because I don't have root access?
If I root my Desire, and install this APK, will my Facebook and Twitter integration return?
Cheers in advance
You should be able to send it with htc sync to your phone. (once connected a third option will appear in the programme)
Just make sure that in settings->applications that unknown sources is checked.

This thread indicates otherwise.
Is there something that HTC Sync does that just running an .apk does not? I've installed several other .apk files without problem.
You should only be able to sync with 'Facebook for HTC Sense' from the sync menu. If you open the facebook app then it will also sync with 'Facebook'. I think so anyway.
This is how I understood it too.
I 'had' a stock Desire yesterday morning and Facebook HTC Sense etc was working swimmingly there, got all updates and contact pics on the 2.1 release (out of box night before), since i rooted and dropped on a different ROM i lost all of that but my memory recalls;
Stock 2.1>Root>setup and the pictures were there fine
then Cooked ROM>setup = Fail
My suggestion is try for a root on stock and if it works all ok your golden! i think my issue is the ROMs i use dont support Facebook Sync,,, yet
please don't throw bricks at me
I just wanted to know how the new iTunes sync with froyo works?
I would like to know as well
I have tried HTC Sync v.3 (can't remember where did I get it), anyway this version has complete different interface to version 2. In the music secion, it does has sync with iTunes playlist, but when I select it, it doesn't sync to my phone.
thanks, i got version 3.
phone says connected
htc sync says no phone connected
i'll to reinstall
Where did you get HTC sync 3 from?
http://www.2shared.com/file/rkpjM_J5/HTCSync305372.html
I would like to know how the ITunes sync feature works.
But also of interest to me and i think everyone here, is how the iTunes streaming feature works so that you can play your iTunes collection on your PC via your Android 2.2 device, that would rock.
It would be nice to have HTC Sync for Mac too
Ah I was just looking on the HTC website for the update to the Sync - not that I want to sync iTunes with it - but if the functionality was there I wanted to see what it was like... before I never use it again!
I wonder why the Sync tool isnt on the HTC website..

HTC sync always says to disable anti virus before you install. Even from the official site it says that

Works fine for me using FroYo and the latest version of HTC Sync, am doing 2 way sync for both photos and iTunes without any issues. I DID have to uninstall the original HTC Sync first though and reboot both the phone and PC after installing.
The .exe I used can be found on this page - http://www.mikesouthby.co.uk/2010/08/how-to-sync-itunes-with-htc-desire-via-htc-sync/
Kia Ora all.
Yup works great!
You need the HTC WildFire released sync app version 3.0.5387, all previous versions removed, reboot both phone and pc, connect up and OLE! Why it isn't clearer i'll only put down to STUPID HTC approach. Or the fact that its not supposed to work? I'm a happy camper so who cares..
Works sweet. I use doubletwist normally, which i love. Its just the annoying sync read time of doubletwist to process through iTunes after i've made a change thats hard to handle.
running on Windows 7 64 bit
have a great day with froyo!

Guys. Worked great for me also, BUT, even though they are on the phone, my Music app cannot see them and just shows 8 default demo mp3's? Any ideas?

If you wanted to sync music/video/photos you could always use DoubleTwist.
I'm so relieved about this, when I got my Desire (since my SE c905) I missed this program big time. You need a client from the market and version 1.8 from http://www.fjsoft.at/ you can do all sorts of synching with it, edit phonebook and calendar n stuff... best of all you can take screenshots without root
could you have edited playlists etc with this?
that annoyed me no end with my c905 - not ebing able to apart from on the phone itself
You cant but its worth writing to the developer, he's really sound and I'm pretty sure he's up for adding as much as is usefully possible with his app. At least you'll get an answer to know whether it is possible or not.
I should add, you can use it to send texts and make calls from your PC using your phone.
Top spot & thanks for the heads up, used this loads when I had SE's. Don't miss the phones but did miss this when I moved across to android.
Sweet ! Never expected that, also used this program alot with my old SE.
This is sweet! Haven't tried it out yet but have fond memories of it on my old Sony Ericsson devices!

Just tried it out and I can't believe how good it is for a freeware program, works better than Nokia PC suit and over WI-Fi
Yeah its a great little bit of software.
Only problem I'm having with the Desire is Synching the phonebook. Everything else works perfectly.
Yeah, phonebook sync seems to be phucked, but i can live with that :]

My "myPhoneExplorer" cannot connect to my Desire. Have SDK, ADB drivers that are displayed problemfree in device manager (vista 32bit). USB debugging is selected. Have tried with different connection types; charge-only, usb storage, HTC sync... no difference. so, what can i do ?
HTC Desire, on original froyo, unrooted & unbranded... suggestions?

Its possibly something to do with the Facebook contacts being involved. Be nice if it gets fixed, well the dev is aware of the problem anyway so maybe a fix will come. I'd prefer to be able to backup/manage my phone offline with MPE so it would be great to see this fixed.
Be sure to encourage the dev with some Euros, I gave him 10E back in my c905 days but I think he deserves a little more for this new revelation (along with an email with some requestifications)
@iLHaNroID, as the above poster says, do you have the client installed from the market? I connect by USB (faster than WiFi) and selecting HTC-SYNC.
@iLHaNroID said:
Hmm.. Nope! coz I thought it was necessary for conn over wifi only.
Thanks for the clarification, will do so. This is exactly what i want & better than the org sync prog IMO.
Cheers!

Hi,

Hello,
I have been looking around, but cant seem to find the answer to my seemingly unique situation.
I have rooted my evo using the Unrevoked Forever / ClockworkMod method.
In these instructions, it said to remove any sync software such as the htc sync or doubletwist.
I now want to be able to sync with iTunes, so what would be a good suggestion to do this? I liked the iPhone i had from work where when I synced, it would keep track of where i was in a podcast and go back to / start up from where i left off on the computer or on the device. This along with the management of my music would be great to have.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

TuneSync, in Market free version and paid version (worth $5 if you ask me)... But I'm pretty sure you're gonna get the "This belongs in Q&A section" from a few.

...expecting it
but with the all the rooting questions and such in here, I figure it may be a better place to ask.
The mod can move if it necessary.
If you're just looking for something that syncs, you may wanna try winamp. it pulls in tracks from your iTunes library, and has a ton of good functions. Plus, it syncs via wifi. I was looking for an iTunes sync, but when i came across it, i liked it better for the evo. Now, iTunes is relegated strictly to my iPod. Hope that helps.
I use isyncr.

Yep, it works. I've been using it for months now.
**Had no idea about WinAmp though. May try that one out. Thanks Uk!**
I use iTunes Agent and could not be happier with it. It loads all of my music in my iTunes library (including purchased songs) onto my Evo. Google iTunes Agent to find the download the program uses your computer and any music application on your phone. No root required.
Isyncr and album art grabber. It works wonderfully. I've been using it with my Evo since July
I'm using doubleTwist with AirSync (WiFi syncing add-on), works pretty well, and can access my music with the stock Sense player
I have heard Isyncr was good and iSyncher wifi, syncs wirelessly, if I am not mistaken.

+1 on this one.
iSyncer seems to work well, but it doesnt retain where in a podcast I am at when I pause and exit the application.
It also doesnt update the location I am at on the computer to the phone.
The podcasts are long that i listen to and would like to be able to stop it on my computer, sync, and then pick up on the phone in my car without having to fast forward to, or have to know, where i left off.
Morning all...
So then, I'm still playing with my phones setup having had it for a month....
My main gripe is the lack of internal memory but thats another issue!
So then, I use Windows Live for all my personal stuff (contacts, calendar, and email) and want it to remain that way. I have tried using the official hotmail app however when I used that it used too much internal memory and the phone as a whole suffered.... So I would rather use the integrated android email solution. This works fine for everything when set up as an activesync account bar one thing. When you delete an email it will reappear on the next sync.
I currently get around this buy moving messages I want deleted to the trash box manually (Menu -> move -> Trash). Has anyone found a solution/fix to get the delete button working when syncing with hotmail!?!?
I'm used to Windows Mobile 6.5 so my thinking is that it shouldn't be too hard an issue to resolve... but I have no experience with Android yet! Any suggestions welcome!
Thanks all
Use standard mail app. See the thread of miui it includes link from me. Works great, Hotmail with puch and contact and calendar sync.

Should have mentioned... I am S-ON with the original o2 ROM....
So despite this....
If I download and use that mail.apk
it will overwrite the mail.apk installed on the device and resolve the deleting problem!
yes?
No it's just another app. I'm s-on too. Only allow to install non market apps
