Hello All
I am a newbie to Android. I have an Orange UK HTC Desire. I rooted it and installed ClockworkMod recovery, plus LollyRom (0.2 version) for Froyo and App2SD.
Now I want to revert it back to original ROM in light of upcoming update for European Desires. Please tell me:
1) Is there a way to unroot my phone back to a GENERIC ROM rather than the Orange version?
2) What is the easiest method for that? And do I need a goldcard (I rooted using Unrevoked so did not need one). Please note that my phone was not locked as such, just displayed Orange splash screen and some (horrible) Orange apps
3) If I unroot it and install a generic ROM, will it be detected as a generic Euro unrooted Desire (so that it can be updated)?
Urgent help would be appreciated

I believe if the rumors and gossip is true that Euro will get updated by this weekend then you need to unroot to HTC_europe version in the official ROM that is available in the sticky post.
I am also pretty sure when HTC rolled the update, it will also be made available everywhere too as long as it is official ROM version. So yes, you will get the update.
Thanks very much.
I just need to know: will I need a goldcard or something to unroot? I did not require it at the time of rooting.
Secondly there seem to be two versions of the generic Euro ROM - which to choose?
Seeing as you're on orange, unless your phone is unlocked, you'll need the 1.15. The 1.21 one updates the radio as well and causes a sim lock on orange phones.
Yes you will need a gold card to flash a generic rom. Imo, the generic rom is much better than the orange one with all the demo games and stuff. If you struggle making a goldcard, google goldcardtool - makes the job easy. Just a few mouse clicks and its done. Simple

I'm on mac os x, can someone link me to/ extract the rom.zip for
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U _4.05.00.11_release_121865.exe
??
ps. what is the difference between
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.1_Radio_32.30.00.28U _4.05.00.11_release_121684.exe
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U _4.05.00.11_release_121865.exe
iinga: Many thanks for the reply. Please bear with me the repetitive questions though:
1) You say I am on Orange. I WAS when I bought the phone, but I am using a different SIM now (in another country) and its working perfectly without unlocking etc. After rooting and installing LollyRom all traces of Orange have vanished from my phone. Does it still mean I have to be picky with generic ROMs?
2) I did not need a gold card to root it and install another Froyo ROM. Is it confirmed that I will need a gold card to unroot it back?
1) What network are you now on? I know that orange are very picky with radio updates. Despite rooting/debranding, updating the radio would mean that they simlock their phone. However, as you mentioned you are on another network, I believe that you may have an unlocked phone?
Also, as the froyo update requires a new radio, it may well be worth your while to unlock regardless...I originally unlocked mine (despite being on orange network) to update to froyo roms with the necessary radio update.
2) Yes, you will still need a goldcard to install a generic rom.
I had Orange UK ROM. I've unlocked it with a code. Then I made a goldcard and installed
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U _4.05.00.11_release_121865.exe
Everything works fine but one thing. Red color is rather orange than red and is too saturated ie. faces of my friends are very reddish. I hope Froyo resolve this.
Just a quick point the Rom coming out this weekend is for unbranded and unlocked phones only not Orange or vodaphone or t mobile just unbranded and unlocked HTC desire.

I think that after unlocking and actualizing to official ROM my HTC is the same as brand new unlocked Desire. I don't suppose that OTA checks IMEI numbers and knows which phone was unlocked phone from begining.
Iinga: actually I am in a third world country having imported orange branded desire. I did update the radio before updating to a Froyo Rom . The phone is working perfectly with a local 2.5 g sim from day one and continued to work perfectly after rooting and updating . So far as I am concerned my phone IS unlocked despite initial orange branding. So I think transition to a generic HTC euro Rom will be possible . Am I correct ?
Secondly I didn't need a gold card for rooting and installing a custom Rom and it worked so it shows my phone is not network locked. So why do i need it to revert to a generic Rom ? Sorry for repetition again and thanks for the help

Ok, i guess you are unlocked.
From my understanding, if your phone was originally flashed with an orange rom, you will need a goldcard. You only don't need a goldcard if your phone was originally unbranded.
Rooting is a different process
Ok I guess now everything is clear . Just to confirm: using the goldcard I will be able to turn my currently rooted phone into a generic euro phone right ? Now the only question is which ruu to use of the given two.
since your phone is unlocked, use 1.21, it's the last official update for unbranded phones:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
So this will revert me to generic euro? What about those ruus labeled euro or something like that ?
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
Use that one as you're unlocked. And yes it will revert you to official stock rom.
So what if your IMEI isn't in the 'database'?
Yes, an OTA has sim-locked the phone. Yes, I am on Orange. Yes, I went to htccode.com.
No, my IMEI is NOT in the database (it's three months old!). Will be chasing for a refund from htccode so let's see what happens.
What next? I could flash the earlier ROM again, but I want the Froyo upgrade to work. I did try to go to Orange for the unlock code but, despite being an Orange-branded phone, I bought it through Phones4U. Apparently I have to go to them for the code. Sounds suss to me, but will be popping to the shop today to ask.
SavCom
I've just been to htcunlock.com. Paid my dues, got my phone back and we're now running Froyo properly as of an hour ago.
Off to htccode.com to get my money back
I have a Desire that had the Orange rom on it, I debranded it with a goldcard to the generic 1.15 rom, then i did the OTA update to 1.21.405 which also updated the Hboot to 0.8 and the updated radio and simlocked the phone so I bought an unlock code and all was good.
Next I rooted the phone using the modaco r6 rooted 1.15 rom, used a few rooted roms then decided I would unroot to get the official froyo update. To do this I used the 1.21.405 zip from shipped roms, put it on the sd card (gold card) named as PB99IMG, booted to recovery and selected fastboot, this is the only way to get back if you have the 0.8 hboot. That took me back to generic unrooted so yesterday I was prompted to install the 2.2 update. I didn't install it as the new hboot sounds like a nightmare. Instead I rooted again using unrevoked 3 and installed a rooted version of the official 2.2 rom, I didn't use a goldcard for this.
Hope this helps.

I have a debranded orange phone, used a goldcard to debrand to a generic 1.21 ROM, since then I have upgraded to the new froyo 2.2 official and ever since my phone is on a continuous loop of restarting all the time every 2mins, no SD card, No WIFI and no GSM calls etc.
I've tred various RUU's and updates and nothing has worked. Im thinking maybe I need an Orange RUU file, but just can't find one anywhere...
I tried using 1.21.405 zip, renamed to PB99IMG then went through recovery mode and fastboot, but when fast boot was selected nothing happened just another menu with - reset, bootloader, clear data etc nothing to say install anything?
Hi everyone,
as can be seen in the title I got a branded Desire although i bought it as unbranded.
Long story short: I am now undecided what to do and it depends on the following:
So after hours of reading I am still not sure if it is possible and safe to completely remove the branding and have a permanently unbranded desire with official european rom and radio with which I can receive further updates from google/htc OTA at no risk AS IF I HAD BOUGHT AN UNBRANDED ONE. (I am not interested in custom roms etc since I have that with an earlier htc winmo device and ended up with backupping, restoring, flashing every second day and it costs me a lot of time)
The warranty is not so much an issue. But as far as I know I can completely revert the debranding process through nandroid... (?)
I would really appreciate any answers to wether it is possible to turn my desire into a "official/original" unbranded one.
Thx
touchhdizzel
Yes. Root & apply a stock (rooted) ROM. Problem solved. But if you accept any OTA update, you lose root.
You don't have to root but then you'll not be able to go back unless you can find the ROM that's on your device. Just make a goldcard and flash with a WWE or Europe ROM.
Thx for the answers.
A few more questions came up for both methods though.
in general:
where can i find a pure stock rom? in the wiki there is only a link to a 1.15 one.
for johnstevedoe's method:
loosing root is no problem since i dont need it. as i said i want to use it like a stock one and be able to recieve updates without having to wipe the phone.
i cant remember where but i read that ppl who had branded desires (i think orange) and used the ota update got further problems with their wifi etc. so it seems that there is still provider specific software (or hardware??) in the phone and it is therefore not behaving like a unbranded one. i guess if i dont encounter problems with the 2.2 update i might get some with future updates.
for steve228uk method:
do ihave to leave the gold card in the phone?
do i have to put it in for the ota updates?
and lastly, is there any resource for the original shipped branded roms? the xda wiki only links to one unbranded stock rom.
Thx for ur help
Dizzel
There was shippedroms.com but HTC asked the guy not to release the ROMs. You only need the one update: WWE 1.21 or 1.15 and then OTA up to 2.2 Froyo. You don't have to leave the goldcard in there but it's definitely safer if you shove it in for OTA updates as some people have had issues when they hadn't used it.

so that means that it is not possible to fully debrand with this method in some cases?
do you know anything about the method using unrevoked? is this capable of turning the desire into a unbranded one since it replaces the whole rom and parts of the boot etc. how can there still occur problems with ota when all branded software was replaced?
cheers
Hi,
I recently received my DHD branded to '3' and all i wanted to do was revet to the official htc unbranded version.
After reading up on the subject i created a gold card and downgraded to 1.31.405.6 which seeems to have done the trick with regard to unbranding.
The question i have is do i need to go through all the other steps i keep reading about (s-off, radio-off etc.) if i just want the phone to stay unbranded, or can i now carry on using the phone as normal?
If i am able to carry on, am i ok to upgrade to the latest htc unbranded version (via OTA or through htc sync) or will that cause me problems?
Thanks
If you followed the guide, you are currently using 1.32.405.6. The 1.31.405.6 is just to fool the device
You can use it normally, no problem. You can change the CID to HTC__001 (unbranded) using Radio S-OFF Tool, but you do not have to do Radio S-OFF if you do not want to. Just use the Stock CID option. You only need Visionary temproot. CID = carrier ID. Radio Tool can also Sim Unlock your device if it is locked.
Ok So i need to install visionary and do the temp root (i take it i don't need to permaroot after this?)
Then open easy radio tool and change the CID to htc_001.
After this is done is my phone in a completely unbranded state (as if i has bought it that way)? If so am i safe to update the phone via official htc methods?
Also what would i have to do in order to restore the phone to branded (in the event i needed to send it back)? Has the gold card/downgrade prcedure i followed made a back up of the branded software?
Sorry for all the questions, it's just i want to be clear before i carry it all out!
You do not need to permroot. After you set CID to HTC_001, you can use WWE HTC RUUs normally, but you cannot receive OTAs due to stupid "dual" CID in branded phones.
When you want to return to branded, just get stock RUU from XDA, change your CID to stock (you can find it [stock] out via terminal emulator, type "getprop ro.cid") and run the RUU. Downgrade method does not back up your stock ROM, it is unfortunately not possible to make a backup at that point.
Ok i have used visionary to temproot and the used easy radio tool's stock cid option to change it to HTC_001.
How do i go about updating to the latest htc unbranded firmware now? i assumed i could go through the phone now it is unbranded but it came back saying the phone was up to date with 1.32.405.6 on it! Also you have stated below i am unable to update in this way.
All is i want is the latest official firmware and the ability to easily update when any future releases come out
Thanks for your help so far - really appreciated!
There is no newer ROM available, HTC pulled the update due to bugs and problems.
You can however use 1.72.405.3 RUU to update, get that from the dev subforum.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
is 1.72.405.3 the version you said was pulled by htc?
I want to change from 1.32.707.5 to 1.32.405.6 since I couldn't get some needed apps like Google Maps 5.1 from market due to the region my phone came from Asia, can I just
temproot to achieve this or it requires permroot using visionary to do this task

Yes, it was out there for a couple of weeks maybe, but then it just disappeared.
Hi guys,
After much searching on this site I'm still none the wiser as to how to actually debrand my DHD to stock HTC firmware. I found a guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10113881&postcount=11
But steps 1 and 2 both link to the same URL - does step 2 not actually need doing?
Then I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917513
But then lots of people criticised it for missing bits out like S-OFF and using 1.72 firmware as opposed to 1.32.
I'm lost now over what all the H-BOOT/ S-OFF/ Radio S-OFF stuff means and where I can actually obtain a 1.32 RUU from. Visionary seemed to be the only bit that was simple and well documented.
Ultimately I'm not interested in rooting long term, nor applying custom ROM's/ radios etc afterwards - all I want to do is get my DHD as HTC would have it, minus all the Vodafone nonsense and so I can get updates from HTC as opposed to waiting 10 years for Vodafone to butcher them first. Luckily it at least currently accepts any carriers SIM....
Can anyone help un-muddy the waters for me?
Thanks in advance.
Chris.
OK, I've had my Desire HD for 18 months and have not had a single problem with it with lots of flashing which I learned a lot through you guys - thank!!! Just got a second-hand Desire for the Mrs as her Wildfire was a sack of s**t and I felt guilty as I recommended it
Desire was branded Orange (not a problem as we're on Orange). Came with MUI ROM (which I hate) so I stuck a Sense ROM on it (as she likes it) and it seemed to be working OK except it starting playing up with the mic in calls recently so went back to stock (although I pretty much bricked it using the wrong RUU getting a black screen!) but got that all sorted with the correct RUU and a gold card and now back on a European 2.2 ROM with S-OFF and root thanks to revolutionary and su binary.
What I can't do now is do is apply the OTA ZIP's which seem to check the CID which is set as ORANG001 I think and just fails. I have used the SIMUnlock Tool which reported to work OK although we have no other SIMs in the household other than Orange to check.
So after all that the question I want to ask really is... Is there a way to actually SuperCID the Desire (I sure can't see on)? If not is there a way to get the OTA ZIPs to install from recovery without error'ing? I'm sure I did it with the gold card in there.
Hope you can assist.
Mike
no supercid for desire as on newer phones, no ota
