Where is the vanilla 2.2 Froyo ROM? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It seems like all of the available ROMs have either Sense, or ADW launcher. Why no pure vanilla Froyo 2.2, with the stock launcher?...or am I just missing it? I'm talking Nexus One pure, with no additions or changes whatsoever, besides root.

Stock and Vanilla in this case don't mean the same thing -- stock roms are Sense based, and Vanilla refers to android without any sense -- as you would have on the nexus one, or compiling from Android Open Source Project code.

vanilla as in, not be slashed and hacked by a developer...untouched in a sense, that is vanilla to me

I'm working on porting the stock FRF91 from the N1 as we speak. I have never done this before and am therefore using only the basic kitchen. If it works and I can verify little or no bugs I will post it in android development. I can't make any promises though.

hey tc, i tried to port frf92 as well, but my question is, why are folders missing after the port.
hope your port goes well. i made a patched cm6 to hold myself over until there was a vanilla port, but as the time goes by, i just feel more and more like the real vanilla. good luck.

i hear that it is hard to port from the basic kitchen. whoever o talk to says that it wont boot.
check the /system folder. im sure some subfolders are missing. i tried to port EVOlution from the evo not too long ago, but when i realized folders werent there, i just decided to forget it.
quick question- what rom did you use as the one "from your phone" as the kitchen would put it???

Skyraider 1.0, all it was looking for was the kernel I think. Might compile the kernel myself and use the zimage I generate. When I have time that is. I would love the stock nexus froyo.

maybe try cm6 or just stock 2.1 when you get a chance.

After trying both CM6 and SkyRaider Vanilla, I'm still looking for a true vanilla rom!!
CM 6.0.1 is vanilla, but it's still HEAVILY modified. Plus, it freezes with a blank screen, or Exchange stops updating, or force closes pop up every once in a while, etc.
SkyRaider has a "vanilla" version, but again it's heavily modified.
I'm not asking for just a vanilla UI, I'd like a vanilla UI AND OS. Give me a vanilla OS that hasn't been screwed with...please? A clean, stock, VANILLA UI and OS that's as near to Google's code as possible (like the Nexus One for example), that hasn't been tinkered with, and that just works on the Incredible.
Is this possible????

Check out the Ruby rom in the development section.

CM6 is the ONLY ROM without Sense right now.
Can't you just download launcher pro from the market? What about adw launcher? Root your phone and delete the bloat. A lot of stuff can be deleted manually. Message enomther and see if he will port his nexus Rom to evo. It is a great Rom.

There is a Senseless Froyo-Fusion out, but I haven't tried it.
I personally tossed around the idea of a stripped down ROM, but like 2.1 can't get the AOSP dialer working, and the AOSP calendar had some wierd issues.
I know of at least one more established ROM dev that is currently working on a 2.2 version with sense stuff stripped out. I'm guessing we will see it in the next few days.
But other than CM, none of these are true sense-removed roms. They still are Sense at the core (framework level) but have AOSP apps in place of sense apps, and a different launcher. If you want a true AOSP, CM is the only one, and I'm pretty sure for other phones most AOSP builds are based off CM.

What do you mean it's not stock? It's wholly stock, except for the part in Settings > CyanogenMod Settings, which a lot of people hold near and dear to their hearts. Otherwise, it's the fastest and most stable Gingerbread build -- nay, ROM -- that I've ever used on my Droid Incredible, even in it's Nightly Build state.
CM7 is 'stock'. I'd say the only thing making it not stock is ADW which can be removed with some basic stuff.

I honestly wish for a stock gb launcher too but CM7 doesn't have that by default. Your only choice is OMGB which is you know...

I've been running the C7 nightlies for a while and love them - What's different in the "stock launcher" rather then ADW? I'm not trolling just curious.
Yea I run OMFGB.
You could always do what i do and just download the roms you want pieces of and pull the pieces and put them into yours. Like download cm7 and omgb and put the omgb launcher into cm7

I ran an early build of OMBG and liked it but it was not stable enough to use as a daily driver at that point - I just don't remember what the differences were between it's launcher and ADW.
I installed omfgb today and then installed adw as i prefer 5 icons in my bar. I will install cm7 #28 asap tonite as omfgb just doesnt "feel" as stable.

[ROM][7/11/2011] Virtuous G-Lite v1.0.3 :: Gingerbread AOSP HTC/G2 base 2.13.531.8

G-Lite is a departure from other Virtuous ROMs in that it is effectively AOSP and designed to be lightweight, yet functional. If you find yourself discarding most of the features of Sense in favor of specific apps of your preference, this ROM is for you. Don't expect anything too fancy.
Features
Supported on the G2 and DesireZ only.
Minimalistic, lightweight ROM with +200MB of memory free at startup.
Extremely battery efficient (best of any G2/DZ ROM I have used to date).
Based on Vision_Gingerbread_S_TMOUS_2.13.531.8, which is effectively AOSP.
All device hardware fully functional, including wifi, bluetooth, camera, camcorder, etc.
Kernel 2.6.35.10 Vision Gingerbread kernel. Do NOT use AOSP kernels with this ROM (i.e. Pershoot, Cyanogen).
Market-sourced applications (Gmail, Maps, Voice, etc) automatically installed on first boot into /data/app for easy removal.
Basic visual enhancements to notification bar, icons and pulldown menus to eliminate green indicators in favor of white.
Replaced stock Gingerbread launcher with LauncherPro.
Wifi calling and Swype conditionally installed for T-Mobile USA users. If your carrier licenses Swype for your DZ, let me know and I will adjust the installer.
Bloatware and unnecessary applications removed.
Additional notifications and ringtones added from Sense.
Massive APNS list.
Rooted, deodexed and zipaligned (should be assumed with all ROMs but people ask so I mention it anyway).

[Q] Rom options for noob with specific needs

So, having tried out three Roms, it's a lot of fun seeing the differences, but the lingo is still way over my head, sometimes.
Sense is an HTC brand launcher/theme, if I understand correctly?
And of the Roms I've tried, stock debloated and Skyraider are Sense Roms, and cm7 is not?
What I definitely need in a Rom is the ability to use the phone with local sim cards in Europe, the ability to turn off/dim the softkey backlight, good signal and battery usage, and reasonable stability.
Skyraider is great, but I can't turn of the softkey backlight (to my knowledge).
CM7 is very nice, but has issues with the sound level. Heard about a certain kernel fixing it, but am too new to understand kernels and how to get back to your old one, if need be.
Does anyone know of any Roms that fit the bill, that are safe for a noob?
Skyraider and cm7 both do all but the back light thing and no Rom does that yet.
Flashing a kernel is just like flashing the Rom and to return to the kernel in the Rom, just flash the Rom again without wiping.

tiamat is the kernel that fixed sound on cm7 you flash a kernel just like a ROM but you don't need to wipe data first. I just flash. don't use aosp (cm7, miui, omgb) kernels on sense roms and vice versa it will cause problems. I like miui that's the ROM I use. stable fast and very customizable. not sure if it supports global mode or not I don't need it. if you have any further questions just ask

MIUI dims the soft-key back lights in conjunction with the screen, and at the lowest screen brightness, the soft-key back lights are completely off. I love how it works, I could never stand how the soft-key back lights on my Fascinate would totally outshine the screen when it was at it's dimmest setting.

I saw you mention the kernel, but as someone who can only follow instructions, and not really understand all the reasoning behind it, I didn't want to jump in with both feet and mess up.
What does aosp stand for?
Is there something like a kernel manager that will show you which kernel is appropriate for your rom?
And once I have tried a bunch of Roms, and made backups of them in CWR, can I just restore the one I want, instead of flashing from sd card, and having to reinstall everything? And if yes, do I still want to do a full wipe before?
Thanks for all the help, everyone!

You must wipe Dalvik cache prior to flashing a new kernel.
If you need something with global access, CM7 and any GSM port really won't be a wise choice. If you want to use ROMs like those while maintaining global access, you probably want to do a nandroid backup of a stock ROM and keep it handy or flash Skyraider. Skyraider is a great choice.
Not sure why you'd want to turn off the keys backlight with them off you can't see where the keys are lol.
I never wipe dalvik before flashing a kernel. aosp is Android open source project. its a ROM built from that source. miui and Cm7 for example are aosp roms

The benefit of sense ROMs is when you flash one, at least one based off the original ROM you can expect everything to work. CM7 won't support it, unless someone figures out how to code the hardware to AOSP. Just like when CM7 was released for the EVO. It took some time for them to get 4G to it. It really depends on how many are trying to get CM7 to the incredible 2...
But that's one of the benefits of a sense ROM. Things just work.
Edit: previous post says it may be working.
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
to answer your question about restoring backups, it certainly doesnt hurt to wipe before restoring but I dont and never had issues, the reason being is that backups are an EXACT system image of when you took the backup so all your settings apps etc are left intact and it completely overwrites your previous rom. backups are very handy but remember they take up a lot of space at minimum they take up 500 mb but in actuality they probably will be much larger

Thank you! And yes, I've noticed that a 2GB card fills up in no time.
I will have to get something larger, so I can transfer the backups (are the files in the clockwork folder all I need?) I made, plus fit my documents, music and videos onto.
Is there a way to verify a CWM backup, apart from actually restoring it?
well I'm sure there is a way to verify a backup but if its no good it just simply won't flash it will say installation aborted so I never really bothered to check integrity. I will say though backups aren't always 100% for example I restored a backup once and the status bar was completely missing but they are usually reliable. and yes your backups are stored in your cwm folder that is all you need

Go ROM

I think it'd be interesting for someone to come up with a ROM possibly cyanogen or liquid based, and replace everything possible with go apps. ie: go launcher, go locker, go weather, go sms, etc.. it would add an interesting theming aspect that I think many would enjoy. Would this be possible??

hes crazy smart and at the time it looked like no aosp miui would really be functional on the fascinate...eventually once jt1134 got cm7 going, andmer took on porting aosp miui to the fasc and up until recently maintained it
even seeing exactly what he was doing at the time made my head spin, lol...i doubt i could replicate it on my own

That makes me think, I wonder if (since I've heard TW is a pita) you could do the same thing with MIUI and sense. So you could still have a lot of the sense aspects but also have the functionality of MIUI similar to your senseless ROM.

its possible, yes...can i/will i do it? no
really andmer would need a sense device or sbrissen would have to care enough to actually try it
This seems like it would be too much of a hassle when you could just as easily install all of the apps the GO Team has to offer and make it look like you have a full GO ROM.
You could always flash MIUI. IMO it's pretty close to the GO with the right theme settings.

It still wouldn't be the same. I'm talking have something fully themeable like MIUI or cyanogenmod but everything is go instead of whatever is stock in the ROM. I guess, yeah you could do it by downloading it all, but it'd be kooler to see more integration.
Oh, btw nitsuj, I messaged andmer about the MIUI/Sense hybrid. I told him I'd be willing to test if he felt like even fooling with it.
