Well, I know about 95% of the questions at the moment are going to involve the new Froyo OTA question, so if someone can answer this I'd appreciate it lots.
Basically.. I installed the new Facebook app from the Market, and I synced my contacts (maybe it happened before that, I don't really know) but for some reason, it's come up with over 1700 contacts.. All the same people, just with lots saying "com.facebook.auth.login" when I go in to a specific contact.. For example, I've synced most of my contacts with Google aswell, which looks like the image I've uploaded..
But why is there 4x com.facebook.auth.login there? There really shouldn't be 1.. And is there any way to get rid of them?
Dan
i've got the same issue except some contacts just show 1 com.auth.... where as some others have over 8! this is on a desire by the way with the new 2.2 OTA update
I had the exact same problem. It's a conflict between the Facebook for Android and Facebook for HTC Sense apps. Seeing that I could only get rid of the FB for Android, that's what I did and now all my contacts are fine.
Is there any way to ditch the FB for HTC Sense? I don't want it, the Android app is much nicer looking and probably works better, too.

Installed the official 2.5 ROM for my TP2 and synched contacts with FB. What REALLY annoys me is that the birthdate is on the contact card but it doesn't update on the calendar. Now if I type in the birthdate manually it shows up on the calendar.
Is there any way to make this happen automatically? I have searched to no avail and any help would be very welcome

If this one doesn't work i've seen a coulpe other posts around, so take a look.
Thanks a bunch, I'll try them out later today.
Have a great easter
Checked out the thread you pointed me to, and some people say it should update automatically when synching to Outlook, which I am, and it doesn't do that. Hm. Maybe it's an issue with the Sense 2.5 ROM?

One obvious way is to link accounts, do an update to get pictures, birthdates, etc., then disable Facebook for each account for which you don't want status updates. That's what I do. Another way is to set Facebook updates to never, so it never updates statuses (or anything else) until you ask it to do so manually. Most people's pictures don't change that often, and birthdays even less often.
so i deleted friendstream and what not so i can't use the fb that's integrated into sense to update my contacts with fb.. is there any way to do this with the facebook for android app from the market? I remember on my moto droid I could, but it doesn't seem like I have that option int he people app on my DInc.. anyone?
bump.... anything? anyone?

you can try socialite, I think it is in the market, if not you can find it in the interwebs, that and htc sense are the only ways I know of to syn FB contacts.
I think that it has to do with the android version of FB available from the market using the INC. I agree that on my motoDroid I had no problems syncing contacts, and I can guarantee there was no sense running on that
There's some sort of bug... Facebook shows up in Accounts & sync when you click Add Account, but when you select it there's an error or two in logcat and you're kicked back a screen.
If you look at the app's permissions, it IS allowed to read/write contact data, as well as sync settings. It just doesn't work at the moment.
Has anyone managed to figure this out? I'm a bit OCD about my contact pictures :-(
im OCD too, which is why thats one area id never want removed, i understand its to cleanup the phone and all but maybe its better to keep things plugged in so that everything can work and then move on removing things systematically from there. I admit im no programmer at all so i dont know where to ever begin but mi just giving a basic train of thought that id follow.
Afaik, you need Friendstream and Facebook for sense to have contacts sync.
I had to install both again, with the obex for each, to get this working on a custom rom.
There are a couple of ways to sync fb contacts to google contacts, but I haven't tried any of them. Use google to find them. After that you can keep the pictures synced with an app called "syncmypix"

You shouldn't need Friendstream to sync contacts (see Moto Droid). The native Twitter app integrated just fine despite Peep being installed. The Facebook app is poorly written so it doesn't sync on the Droid Incredible. This might be because Friendstream is 'supposed' to do it, so native syncing is disabled? Editing build.prop and a few other files is necessary to create a friendly environment... but it'd be easier if Facebook just fixed their apk.
Syncmypix looks like a nice stop-gap for now though

if you just need contact pics from facebook..not updates or profiles linked...use facebook sync. its an app in the market, not affliliated with Facebook, so it works perfectly. used on my stock incredible and now on my 2.2 rom rooted incredible.

oddly enough, i actually am a programmer, haha.. but I agreet hat sometimes it's better to keep things installed if they're working.. problem was, friendstream wasn't working.. I removed it and fb because I was getting the bg fc's from the friendstream sync issue and got sick of having to re-setup my fb every time..
I've finally had it with my Tilt2 bluetooth issues and am going to drop AT&T and pick up Sprint so I can have the EVO. I've read through both the Q&A section as well as the Themes & Apps section ... not entirely, mind you; just scanned. Anyway, I'm seeing a bunch of themes and widgets that are really cool. Is adding them an easy thing to do ... or does it require a little more labor of love (rooting, flashing a new rom, etc. --- all of which I know nothing about)?
Much thanks in advance and apologies if this has already been covered and I just didn't come across the thread.
pretty simple
You just need to do it in this order
ROOT(lots of simple guides)
Flash ROM (most ROMs comes with intructions on how to flash and load wimax and radio)
Custom Kernel (optional but allows you to over/underclock)
Theme(Flash just like the ROM)
Install custom widgets, backgrounds, bootscreens, ect
I am so not literate enough to know what I do or don't like about the stock EVO ROM yet to even ponder flashing a new/different ROM ... hell, I don't even have the phone yet (hopefully going to pick it up tonight) .. lol.
Do I need to ROOT to do add a new theme or some widgets? Or is it as easy as downloading them to my sdcard and installing them?
widgets no unless they only work on a custom rom but themes it depends on what they used to make it.
Thanks. I'm seeing that HTC is going to be coming out with 2.2 later this year. Are there that many bugs with 2.1 .... should I wait until 2.2 is stock/out of the box?

I would def play around with stock at first but if you want themes, better control of battery, performance, and fpscap removed then you would want to look into getting a rom.
2.2 is already out

Thanks for the insight.

Haven't used it, but yahoo contacts are supposed to be able to sync as well.
I didn't think the 2.2 that was out was the "official" one issued from HTC ... rather the pre-released version so people, like the ones here on xda, could test and tweek it before it got released to the general user population. Does that make sense?

it was released on Monday ota.
yep 2.2 is out and yahoo will work but its not a default install on android since google is android. before you get rid of your old phone see if you can download google sync and sync your phone with a gmail account and then when you get your new phone you will sign in with the gmail and bam your contacts will be there.
Yes android phones during setup require you to have a gmail account.

Well, technically Sense phone's don't require a Google account, though you will need it to use the Market. Definitely recommend importing your contacts and calendars to Google and using it as your default, as its more integrated with Android.
Ugh, converting contacts from Yahoo to Google sucked, only about 1/4 of the contacts actually came over and of those that did they were missing info. It was a lot less painful, and everything came over into Google (notes, addresses, etc.), by saving my contacts from my phone as a csv via AT&T Mobile Contacts and then importing the csv into Google. It was worth the $1.99 I'll get charged from AT&T just so I wouldn't have to retype all 200 contacts info! Not sure if I'm going to keep my gmail account once I get my contacts loaded back onto the EVO ... have had my yahoo account for so long, it could be a pain to convert everyone over to a new email addy.
I'll hopefully be picking up my new EVO tomorrow morning, stopped on my way home from work and they were sold out ..... was told to come back first thing tomorrow morning so that's what I'm gonna do -- it is convenient that I have off work tomorrow .. lol.
Can't wait to play with the EVO!!!!
2.2 is OUT
Developers got a pre-release this past weekend. Then Sprint pushed 2.2 out late on the 2nd or early the 3rd of Aug. Hope this helps!
I say this from reading posts on several BBs.
yea i agree the google sync for contacts is pretty pathetic i do not get why your addresses go to notes. all google has to do is add the same fields on there website and presto. you would think android and google would work in harmony but nopes
Didn't see this mentioned already.....unless I overlooked it.
The 1st thing the Sprint rep will do is update it. If you plan on rooting. DON"T LET THEM!!!! Tell them before they open the box that you don't want it updated. The second you install 2.2, your rooting plans are on hold....till they figure out how to root 2.2. You can install a rooted version of 2.2 after you root it.
I may flash a custom Gingerbread ROM a few months down the road but I'm staying stock until the hardware checks out. The only thing I don't like about Sense is it's gone and added a ton of Facebook friends with phone numbers to my contact list and I really don't want them. Is there a way to remove them? I can't seem to find a simple solution.
Thanks in advance.

I just double checked, contacts aren't being synced for Android Facebook or Sense Facebook. When I go into the contacts app (I think it's called People) I have set my 70 contacts from Facebook for Sense to not be viewed, but they still appear in the list of people to call or send messages to. I don't care if they're there, but at the least I don't want to see them. I have them hidden in contacts but they appear in Handcent and Phone anyway.
Did you ever in the past link up FB contacts to an android phone? In that case I believe it also syncs up with Google's contacts in the cloud...but I may be mistaken
Yeah this got posted a while back, I know what you mean it's annoying. It meant my phone tried to sync a ton of stuff I didn't want to my car stereo unit via Bluetooth.
Someone did post up a solution, try a search for Facebook and contacts.
Im currently running MikG 2.2 on my evo and all the dates for my FB contacts are off bye one. For example, my wifes B-day is Nov. 17 but FB for HTC Sense shows NOV. 16. Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue. Has anyone found a fix?
That's strange for sure, I've never had that issue before. I would try removing your HTC Sense Facebook username completely and then logging back into it and let it re-sync. You may want to log out of the Facebook For Android application too if you have it installed.
On another note, if you don't have it installed, try logging out of the HTC Sense for Facebook and downloading the Facebook for Android app from the market and logging it. It should sync up fine.
I am on Sense, but never use HTC Sense Facebook, just the Facebook for Android from the market. I know a lot of people aren't fond of it, but I don't have any issues with it, I think it's fine.
Thanks. The FB app from the market works fine. It's just one of those little things that annoys me.
having the FB app and FB HTC Sense syncing at the same will give you issues..
that's why I turned off FB HTC Sense and only have FB app running..
I've found that quite a few people are having the same issue as me and it seems to be on the HTC side. I like this better than the Facebook app from market because pictures have better resolution and the sense FB also syncs the last post from all of my FB contacts to the people app and dialer. I know syncing both causes issues, i've done allot of research and tried numerous fixes and was just wondering if anyone found a fix for the FB for sense yet.
