Hey guys, I need some help...
Last night I did a nandroid backup of my DC3.2.3 install, so I could update to 3.5 (as well as installing the WIMAX update, which I hadn't done previously).. Today, I wanted to flash back to it for a minute, so I went back into nandroid to restore it, and when I tried, I got an error "couldn't open directory /sdcard/nandroid/"
So, I booted back into android and checked it out.. No nandroid folder on my sdcard, but the backup is saved in the root of the SDCard.. So I created a folder and moved my backup into that folder.. tried again, and then got an error "couldn't open directory /sdcard/nandroid/recovery.img"
Any help?
Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but couldn't you have put it here?? http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=652

Sorry, didn't occur to me. Mods can feel free to move it.
Rooted with Simpleroot..
Did you use rom manager to back up? If so, you need to use clockwork mod to restore. You can't switch between ra/clockwork.

Restoring boot image…
Error while flashing boot image!
I think my HBOOT isnt the write version but im not sure.
Did you change the name of it and use invalid characters, such as a space? Or seems your backup may be corrupted.

What recovery are you currently using? Clockwork? If so, what version?
Well, do you have signature verification off? And what's your bootloader say? Have you switched recoveries in the process?

Yes they are off, What info do i need form my bootloader, And yes I went from Clock work to the green one that starts with a A then back to Clockwork.
Well thinking back, bootloader wouldn't matter, as long as you're rooted. And well are you trying to restore an amon_ra backup from clockwork?

You can't switch recoveries like that. The recovery you used to backup is the one you must use to restore. Backup with clockwork you have to use clockwork to restore you can't use RA.

Not sure I'm following ya but if you want to go back to green aka RA then there is a thread in DEV. on how to do it. The pc36img is the easy way. I think its pc36img any way can't quite remember. You put it on your SD boot to hboot and it will ask if you want to flash it. Basically
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
I just made a backup and none of them will restore. No matter how old or new
How are you doing it? Are you choosing to install zip from sd card? If so... that wont work. Go into backup and restore and restore from there. Make sure to wipe everything first.

I did that, Ill dont know i try and fiure it out.
I rooted my HTC Evo 4g 2 days ago using revolutionary and replaced clockwork mod with amon ra 2.3 and I flashed the Synergy - [RLS1 + GodMode 08/05/2011] rom and it worked fine.
Last night I flashed the Warm Synergy Theme For RLS1 and it didn't work and it was force closing on multiple apps like messaging, people ect. so I restored the nandroid I created right before flashing.
Now today I go to recovery and try to go to nandroid restore and it says "E:Couldn't open directory /sdcard/nandroid/"
I also had deleted the recovery zip off my SD card because I thought I no longer need it so I tried putting it back on there and nothing changed.
Anyone know whats going on? I couldn't find any threads with this same problem.
If u created nandroid with cwm then u can only restore with cwm. Same with RA
Sent From My Pocket
It was created by RA but it won't even let me go to Nandroid restore, when I try to go to it it gives me that message
Any other ideas?

Sent From My Pocket

Honestly, you don't TRULY need the nandroid backup file to resolve your issue. If your nandroid was just a backup of your stock ROM then just flash a rooted stock ROM. If it was just a previous flash of Synergy then just reflash that ROM.
lol the rom isnt the problem the only problem is that it wont let me go into my nandroid restore.
do you think that the rom is causing this?
Did you rename the nandroid restore?
I believe he said he did and put it on root of SD. That is wrong location for it hence his problem

Check the name of the backup. Make sure there is no spaces or characters, other than -
While you can add to the end of the default name that the nandroid backup is given, you cannot change or remove that name. or have any spaces in the name. Also, it has to be in the folder that it was originally set in when you did your nandroid.
For example, the name I have for my last nandroid is
BDEARS-20111008-1719_MIUI-10-7-complete
hey thanks everyone for the help but I figured out that my backups got deleted idk if I did it or not cuz I made another backup and then went to restore and it worked fine.

Try to re-flash your recovery. When I got that "something went wrong error", that worked for me.

You can change that name completely. My backups typically look like:
CM7_30_Oct
The only thing is: you can't use spaces, or invalid characters, like an asterisk. Underscores and hyphens are fair game.
And yes, you can't change the name of the HT.....[device name] or it'll say the backup is corrupted.

Seems like something is missing inside it, like the txt file, ect. Make sure the name is PC36IMG, case sensitive [use all caps].
I wanted to tryout cm10 nightly build for my s3. I backed it up and installed the rom. After playing with it, I went to restore and now it says no files found?????
Any clue how to find it?

Created another backup, so I was able to put my original backup in the new backup folder and restored it from cwm recovery. Worked.

Sorry, was a bit shocked when it happened.
Well i found the back up, but when I go to CWM to restore it says no files here. But I can access them when I connect my s3 to my computer. Whats an alternate of way restoring this backup?
Where is the backup supposed to be? I have a feeling this is an emulation issue.

Its supposed to be in Internal Storage/S3/Clockwork Mod/Backup
When i try to boot into recovery and restore from there it says
"Couldnt open directory"
No files found
What version of CWM are you using? Check /storage/emulated/0 and /storage/legacy/0.
Hey guys;
Essentially; if I do a nandroid backup before I flash a new rom, can I go back to stock by doing a nandroid restore?
Did a search but wanted to get a proper answer.
I have a n7105 with Vodafone software from Australia. There is no stock rom to download for this, and my main concern is keeping some sort of backup so that I can flash back to 'stock' if anything goes wrong and I need to do a warranty repair.
I have flashed many phones in the past but this is the first time I haven't been able to download the stock software.
If I root the phone, flash CWM, do a Nandroid, then flash a different rom, can I get back to my original software by loading my nandroid backup? Is that how nandroid works?
Thanks people; I really appreciate it.

Awesome! So, again to clarify, I can move from say, cm back to Vodafones 4.1.2 or whatever it is?
Also, I would probably want to move the actual backup image off my phone once its made, is that possible?

When you will restore your backup you will come back to your ROM (included settings) you had when you proceeded to this Nandroid.
You can move the backup but be careful: you will have to put back the folder in the same directory and name.

Yes look at you sdcard/clockworkmod folder after backup. You should not cut it. Copy it in anywhere and dont touch any of this file or you will get md5 error..
Any time you want to back just press the restore button ...
Now flash any rom..

First thing you want to do is take the whole back up folder and COPY it to your pc incase you wipe it or muck up re-bumping the TWRP
