So my buddy sent me some ringtones he made through gmail, but all i can do is preview them. Any idea how this can be done without havin to open gmail in the browser?
Any help would be appreciated.
Pretty sure you have to open Gmail in the browser...
major fail for the gmail app and the pop3 client won't do it either... how ghetto.
When you do the save in the browser it gives the filename some crap with a different file extension too.
Save My Attach on market/appbrain
Search blackmoon in the market, free version works fine.
You can try GSaver to save or open your gmail attachment on Android.
just search GSaver to find it out. It's completely free

I have the same problem. My workaround : when needed, I save attachments with the htc mail app.
My workaround is to use gmail in the browser. Works great.

I think the solution is to totally dump the gmail app and use the mail app and Google's exchange server instead. And there's also the web app (as the other poster pointed out) which lets you search old mail etc.

install OI Filemanager from Market and that should fix ur problem
unfortunatly, OI filemanager does not add any "save to" option to the gmail app afaik
Only "preview" is available... I don't get it - shouldn't it be possible to save an attachment without opening it first ?
You can try GSaver to save or open your gmail attachment on Android.

So all my work faxes come to my G2 via e-mail through outlook but they are .tif files. I have searched through the market but have been unsuccesful to find a viewer...any suggestions?

If you can't find a tiff viewer, there's always TIFF2PDF on the market. It might be a hassle to always convert it to open it, but meh...
I also heard gmail preview works on .tiff ...?
Try "Fast Image Viewer Free" in the Android market. It does a good job with TIFF and can display animated GIF and others...
KUDOS to you My Friend!!! Works like a charm and very simple! Thanks!

I'm glad you like it. A kind comment on the Android market page would be greatly appreciated
Currently working on adding support for viewing scanned-image PDF files. Should be ready by Monday.
New version also has long-press option in the file browser to share images (email, mms, etc) and set as wallpaper.

Im looking for an app that allows multi-selections on emails to mark as read, the HTC mail app on the Evo 3D allows this.
I tried to take the mail.apk from the evo but it will not install on the gs2, anyone know of an app that allows multi-selection or is it possible to get the HTC apk?
I use the email app called Enhanced Email. Not sure if it does what you want but can't hurt to check it out.
Is there anyway to get the HTC apk to work on the gs2?

Most likely not, as I believe the HTC mail app requires Rosie.apk aka the sense home.

The AOSP email does what you want. Comes built in the AOSP rom.

Droidmail (market 2nd favorite )
K9 mail (market)
I liked the stock email app on the galaxy S2, I figured that once I got my s3 that email would be similar, but it's not, it is much much worse. Is there any way to install the old mail app from the S2 on the S3?
I have tried the alternative email programs from the play store and I just don't like them.
Please help!
Thanks a million.
Enhanced Email...
I may not be correct, but.... I believe the GS2 used an email program built by Seven.
You may look and find an apk for Seven email+IM that should be similar. I personally cannot find a download link for it.
If you go their website, they do have a BETA Android program. http://community.seven.com/download.php Again, not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but may be worth a shot.
Edit: It appears they abandoned Android in the last year or something and the only client they currently are shown as making is the one for Hotmail's Android client. Sorry.

Another recommendation...
K-9 Mail is IMO a good email client. I don't know if it's one of the alternatives you tried and didn't like.
It's larger that Enhanced Email, but cheaper... (free)...
I'm new or I'd post a link to the Play store.
(I have no affiliation with K-9 Mail whatsoever.)

I'm going to try and push the SGS2 email.apk and exchange.apk later this evening. Please feel free to try it first if you have access.
I have been using Secure9 Mail for 6 months. And it has built-in encryption (if you want to use it).

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I've tried all the free email apps on the play store and none of them really did it for me. Finally tried enhanced email too and that is a step in the right direction, hopefully I don't have any troubles from it.
p.s. I have the Gmail app, but I need to access my work email somehow.
Try touchdown by nitrodesk. It's one of the best

Only one I found I liked was Inomail,
What about the AOSP Google email? I think it looks great and works very well.
yea if you need to check an exchange acct at work I usually go between nitrodesk touchdown and moxier mail. One of those should be perfect for you I prefer touchdown really.
What is it about the stock SGS3 email app that you don't like?

do you have the apks for AOSP?
the rom NoAOSP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1759245
uses the email client from google nexus; a user there said it was the only email client they've used on the S3 that allowed them to connect to their work email.
perhaps download that rom, open the zip with 7zip and pull out the email.apk and put it on your phone.
try to install it normally, if not you may have to copy it to system/app with root explorer (reboot afterwards)
might be worth a look

In the SGS2 email you could make it inverted and control font size from the app.
I pushed the old app every way i could. No joy. May try a flashable zip, but I can't see that making much difference... I guess it would have to be ported.
I know we are in an early stage of development but just curious if there is a way to get a Gmail 4.2.
The whole zoomed out email view is awesome and it's probably only thing I'm missing. I will appreciate if you have any guidance.

For some reason on stock AT&T when going into Settings > Application Manager (Select ALL) I see two Gmail apps. One is Gmail 1.0 and the other is Gmail 4.1.2.
Anyone else notice this? Any idea why there are two of them and if both need to be deleted in order to install Gmail 4.2?

sent using gNote II.
If you are rooted then use a File Manager like "Root Explorer" & go into /system/app & rename gmail.apk to gmail.apk.bak. Then copy the 4.2 gmail apk to /system/app and lastly change the permission (4.2 gmail.apk) to RW-R--R--.

The app itself looks pretty much like the old version, you can just zoom all the way out so you can see the entire email. I'll post a picture in a little bit

Don't remove Gmail 1.0. It's useful label, which is responsible for the opening Gmail mails with Gmail by default.
Without Gmail 1.0 my phone is restarting by itself each time when I try to set the default access to the mails.
