Hey xda forum!
I just bought the awesome phone, desire, but i noticed that my screen is blue-greenish tint, compared to my friends Desire. I think i can live with it, but is there anything to do? i've searched for this problem and found that the samsung vibrant also has this problem.
what can i do, is there any way u can change the setting of ur display? turning brightness up helps, but outside, my friends desire is easier to see/read compared to mine.
You may have it set so that brightness is Auto,
Settings > Display > Brightness
It was set to auto but that really look awful
So it is on full brightness now

the amoled screen does have a blue tint, from what i beleve blue led's die out really quickly, Samsung on purpose made the screen to over display blue, and as time goes on, the blue will die to a yellow. So if your phone is more blue today, it will last longer tomorrow. also Samsung tunes all of their displays (TVs and all) towards the bluer end of the spectrum because it gives the display a higher apparent brightness because our eyes perceive bluish white as being brighter than yellowish white even with no actual brightness difference.

thanks for the info, that actually good news followed up on ur info and read about it on wiki.
i guess thats the only way they can expand the life time of old amoled displays.
back to auto brightness
I just bought my desire and have same problem ad u guys. I accepted the fact that blue had a low lifespan, but was still trying to hunt for a solution. After dl many brightness apps I found, Brightness profiles. I started playing around to change the brightness and notice some weird flickness. Example at 74 % it was more "yellow" than on 75%. At 96 % had less blue tint than 100 %. I could see it clear under no light before I went to sleep. So I guess they are defect but Ye, that's my workaround cuz I'm too lazy to return the phone and I like the cool tint now, or well it got better

Hello All
Just came across this forum and a thread on the pink screen issue.
Do you reckon this one has the same issue?
All of the phones are the exact same and have the exact same "issue". I use my phone on maximum brightness all the time so I never notice it. It's only noticeable if you use the phone on the lowest brightness setting (Why anyone would buy an AMOLED phone just to use it on the lowest brightness is beyond me)

Is that true? Does everyone have a pinkish screen if u run it in the lowest brightness? (Havent gotten my Desire yet.)

Yes i'm fairly sure they do. But at anything over the lowest brightness it doesn't occur. Again, why you would buy an AMOLED to use it on lowest brightness is beyond me

Check the appropriate thread: there is a huge difference between handsets. Most are like this, some are totally unaffected and some are basically defective.
Yes poor answers, I do not have any pink even on the lowest brightness settings. This means your device is defective and you should get it replaced as many others have done. And yes there is a thread dedicated to this issues:

Im a total OCD for these kind of things. pink issue, dust under screen, dead pixels etc... I don't have the pink issue. It was one of the biggest concerns for me when I ordered the phone. I had seen sample photos from the nexus one that had pink etc. I think there are two issues. A screen issue, and a camera issue? anyway, I don't have pink in my screen at low setting (which I use ALL the time indoors to consevre battery) or any other setting. I also don't have pink in any pictures or videos I made with the phone.

What do you think of the examples i posted?
I only notice the off-pink tint in GMail. Nothing major tbh.
I cannot see any pink on your photos at all, but I went to my brightness settings and copied what you did in the screen shots and YES my gray looks like it has a red/pink/rose tint at the VERY lowest setting. At 5% brightness it's fine, gray. at 0% setting it has the rose tint. This is NORMAL and a limitation of the display technology (pentile matrix). If this is what you mean, your screen is normal. It's only certain shades of gray that will be affected by this and normally only at minimal brightness settings. I thought you meant you had a pink blob on the screen centre etc? If you just mean the gray menu and ntificaiton bar etc appearing slightly rose coloured at lowest setting, this is normal. I presume the grays are fine when the you move the brightness bar up from 0% to 5% or 10% setting?

Hey guy,
So a friend of mine had a strange problem with his htc desire
Last night while reading some stuff his displayed color changed,
first thing i noticed was the rly pinkish tint, everything was slightly pink Oo
noticed this Thread but that wasnt the issue here
hope u guys can see sth, it seems its only 8bit color depth, 256 color
since some pictures are getting some rly ugly "blocks" in it
Well my question is, is the display broken? should he get a new one?
can a new rom fix this problem?
Thanks in advance
Kemo~
Try resetting brightness to auto.
we did that already, the pink tint increases with lower brightness
we also did a hardreset of the phone nothing changed
When i take a picture with ddms.bat it looks normal
its rly strange :/
Is it an LCD (slcd) or AMOLED Desire?
Its an amoled
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
The AMOLED screen on the Desire has more red pixels (not quite right, but the easiest way to put it) then blue or green. What this means, is that the screen of the Desire is inherently tinted red. This is mainly more noticeable when the brightness is at low level as the color spectrum on a screen uses light to adjust the colors. With less light, the red has more of a bleed through effect and becomes noticeable. I really don't notice it unless it is at VERY low light or I have the screen with a white background and next to a device with another high end type of display such as the iPhone 4 or the Galaxy S which don't have the bleed through effect... well, with red anyways... they have the effect with blue.
Strange... I've seen oled displays look like that after only a year but that's in very rare cases. They wear out but not just like that if it happened almost insantly.
Did you look at the display just when it happened, did the other colors just sort of fade away or did they go in a snap?
it happend in an instant, an no i didnt have a look at it when it happend
but it seems the display is broken
well he gonna replace it, lucky he still has warranty =)
Thanks guys for the replies
Cheers

So I just got my gnex last week and I know that there are issues with purple color at low brightness so my main question is do most just leave the phone on full brightness all the time?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Full brightness? Wow, that would just kill your battery. I just leave it on auto. I never had had the tint issue though.
Anything lower than like 60% for me has purple tint. I have adjusted and used Franco's kernel and everything. Should I request a replacement phone while I can because I don't know if this is normal or not
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
That's not normal. I get it at the lowest brightness level. I usually have mine at 30%.
Sent From My Sprint Galaxy Nexus via XDA Premium
I have no purple tint at any brightness.
If it really bothers you you're within your rights to exchange it.
However, there's no guarantee that your replacement will have better tints and there's the possibility that it will have a different sort of defect instead.
I exchanged my purple GNex and received a new one with a dead column of pixels. My 3rd unit is flawless though.
Just be aware that you could be starting a long, tedious and frustrating process of exchanges until you find your Goldilocks Gnex.
No tint at all for me..
"Long is the way, and hard, that out of hell leads up to light."
At the lowest brightness I see the tint you speak of, but anything above that it looks ok.
I've actually gone through 3 devices recently, and on my second one I definitely noticed this issue. Another thing strange is that there was a clearly visible circle at the place where the LED is (under the screen) that is completely invisible on the other two (which do not have a purple tint). I don't know that they're related, but it's just an observation.
Mine has a purple tint at any brightness lesser than 50% also it has a horrible yellow tint, which i managed to improve a lot by using franco kernel color control but the till os still there, since I bought from Amazon us and I live in latinamerica an exchange is totally out of the question I'd say fight for an exchange until you get a perfect screen
, brightness at 100% is too bright for me and besides it eats up the battery. I leave auto brightness on most of the times but it can dim the screen too much, it's very aggressive, so sometimes I just set the brightness to 50%
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
No purple here at all. I was expecting to have it on the lowest setting based on what Samsung considers "normal," but even that setting has nothing but grays when I fire up the Calculator app.

Good place to check, i don't seem to have it on any setting of brightness
Mine has a little bit of graininess at 0%, but anything over 0% and I can't tell.
As for the purple thing, my whites have a slightly blue hue, when not looking head on, but again, it's so faint and not really noticeable that I don't care, plus the brighter I go, the less i notice it.
Mine has a horrible purple tint as well as heaps of other issues. Even on full brightness, the purple still shows through in some places, like the settings menu.
I tried sending it to Samsung and they kept it for two months, did a data wipe, and sent it back to me unfixed.
Edit: And yes I leave it on full brightness all the time, and I still finish the day with about 40% battery left.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
No purple or grain here, like others said the calculator is the best place to check.
I don't have the purple tint problem at lowest brightness thank goodness. But I've seen the issue on a Verizon nexus.
Using the color controls the purple tint could be lowered to a bearable level
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I have my brightness cranked and my battery is still pretty great. After 14 or so hrs I still have about 40%. I do get the purple at lower brightness settings, but I always have mine way up no matter what phone I use.
My gnex nave no noticeable tint at any level of brightness.
This is my second phone without purple tint at any brightness, but this is my 7th Nexus. I was trying to find a phone that didn't have the signal drop issue and in the process got many phones with horribly purple screens. This is a Verizon Nexus btw.

I actually bought it from a store and sent it to my friend in INDIA he seems to have a dim display one,the bit on the reddish side. Now,he isn't enjoying his new mobile because of the forum about screens being on a warmer side. Please help me out how to adjust the contrast. If at all I can do something from here to help him out because sending the mobile back here would be pain in the arse.
I dont if it will solve his problem but settiings/general/accessibility/color adjustment there is a dial you can move around to adjust to your liking. As far as being dim, ive heard others say the same thing. I keep on my 35%. Anything above 70% and i need to wear sunglasses lol
He was actually using his mobile at 0% brightness and thats what have him a red tint of he increases his brightness to 40% or 50% He has no issues about this. I showed him the picture comparison of two G3 s. He said that the left one is exactly what it looks like at 10% brightness and right one about 60%-70%. I guess the photo in the forum was fake. He has no issues now.

At 0% brightness, my g3 has reddish whites or a slight purple cast. You cannot notice it at all unless you are under the perfect conditions. Plus you need another device or phone to compare. But my g3 has whiter whites than all the phones I have seen. Even the s5.
i don't know why i seem to be the only one, i always wanted a note because it's been praised as the best display of all time i finally got a note 10+ and the display disappoints me to no end, first off the colors are dull, my xperia xz1 on super vivid mode has more vibrant colors, second off the brightness it's not amazing if i compare my note 10+ to my huawei mate 10 pro the huawei appears more vibrant and bright, the huawei is running a custom rom, my note 10 + has custom white balance settings with green and red turned down to 0 and it's still too yellow for my taste the screen mode is itensive and yes bluelight filter is off, when i use the note 10+ on it's own i get used too it and i see no issues with the display but then i start up my mate 10 pro and get a much whiter better white and overall brighter image, my note 10+ is set to +10 brightness and high performance mode all auto brightness off and max brightness, white still appears dull colors appear dull, why am i the only one who feels this way?
Was gonna ask if your blue light filter thing was on. The white seers into my brain unless I have the filter on. This seems to be the best display I've ever used. And you're saying other phones are brighter? I haven't found a single phone brighter than this one. Maybe a defective screen?

it's set to high performance which forces max resolution and max brightness, the images i posted earlier show the difference between my note 10+ and my mate 10 pro you see how the color of the white has a red tint despite being as cold as it possibly can get

my tweaks are the following
max performance with brightness 10+ enabled and brightness slider to the highest possible settingm, intensive with the temp slider to the far left as in coldest as it gets then advanced white balance both red and green turned down to 0 blue turned to max meaning the screen should have an extreme blue tint it doesn't, i tried the google books method and blue light is always off when i launch the app so it's not that, i even tried calibrating colors under accessability where you have to rearrange colored balls result are almost identical to what i had with a slight yellow tint to the white so worse than before i turned that off again
i had this issue with the original display and now the replacement one when i havenothing to compare to white looks great colors pop screen looks good white feels slightly dull but it's hard to tell, but then i go back to my xperia xz1 or mate 10 pro and feel a huge difference in white and overall color performance, both displays pop a lot more than the note 10+
might i add i am ultra sensitive to warm displays so what looks great to someone else might look like a yellow mess to me i always increase blue on all displays i have my sony af9 is set to cold with all color enhancers to max i need colors that pop with no yellow tint what so ever, i am not a fan of accurate colors at all
Being the most accurate display of colors doesn't mean it'll be your favorite. Maybe you prefer less accurate (seriously, no snark here). But brightness should be pretty clear cut... No idea why yours wouldn't be as bright.

well i already know i hate accurate colors i want bright vibrant cold colors anything accurate to me looks dull and yellow the surface pro i have which is known for it's accurate calibration almost looked black and white to me until i got it decent by forcing intel control panel and increasing color intensity but the screen was so terrible on it i stopped using it i just couldn't deal with that display so it's been collecting dust ever since, my xperia xz1 is using super vivid mode with blue turned up to 171 the screen becomes complete trash without super vivid mode and it becomes the best display i have ever seen with super vivid mode turned on, i wasn't a huge fan of the display on the xperia 1 either that phone has no super vivid mode and the display was rather dull to me but the brightness and white was miles better than the note 10+ especially when it forced the brightness to max on apps like youtube (it dimmed outside of certain apps which i could not handle so i sent it back but on youtube the brightness was just mindblowing the white was so perfect and clear then it wen't gray as soon as it would dim when i exited the youtube app)

I believe that the Note interface is more greyish than white. This is why even without the blue filter, if you do not increase backlight alot, it is not quite white.
It can be seen on the Home screen, when you group-up some apps icons in a folder, have a look at the white of the icons and compare it to the white of the folder itself. Not same white. The surrounding white of the folder is grey, not white.
Same goes for the google search on home screen, it is not white compared to the the white of say, the Google Apps icon.
Maybe try another theme if you do not like it ?
