Hi folks,
I updated my EVO to Froyo yesterday. Now both of the front and back cameras are not working. I can not open any app that use the cameras. Just want to know does anyone have the same problem? I have tried to restart my EVO a few times, but no luck. How I can solve the problem?
Thanks in advance.
I have the same problem or at least a similar one. Camera app force closes after update. Running omj's latest 2.2 w the custom kernel

Did u do the official ota update? The one directly from HTC via your phone or did u use a custom Rom from the forum? If you where running stock Rom before the official update then am not sure why the cams would not work.
If ur phone is rooted and you're running a custom Rom then it may be the Rom. In that case check the Rom thread to see if there were any issue with the Rom. Try wiping data, etc and flash a different Rom if possible.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I did the update via the official update. I have not rooted my EVO yet, so I think I am still on the original Rom.
I had a problem when running the netarchy kernel 3.7.6c, with the Froyo updates. Camera's worked fine, but as soon as I changed the resolution settings (From "3mp") the cameras would continually force close. I had to wipe cache and Dalvik (Left Data alone) and re-flash the ROM. This "Reset" the camera settings, and the camera has been working fine since.
Maybe re-flashing the ROM may work for other people as well.
I did an "Factory data rest" under "SD and Phone storage" and now I can use the cameras again. The cost is that I lost all the apps I downloaded, which is OK. I will reinstall them. It seems like an app I installed caused the the problem.

I just re downloaded the kinged shooter rom because the the camera wasnt working. It still doest work after reinstalling it. I didnt read any bugs with the rom so I installed [ROM] Synergy - [RLS1+GodMode 08/05/2011] - Now With Warm Sprinkles! I tried the camera and still doesnt work. Any suggestions?? Thanks...
What happens? Force close, black screen, won't open?
Does it happen on the stock rom?

sorry...Before I had a rooted stock rom and it worked fine.. Since I flashed a rom it doesnt work. It doesnt come on...black screen..
Are you sure it's the rom? Have you tried a nandroid restore of when it worked to rule out a hardware issue?
Also, are you doing a full wipe when you flash a new rom? If you're not wiping thoroughly or if you're restoring system data with Titanium Backup then it could cause issues.

I dont think its the rom anymore since I put 2 different rooms on there and its doing the same thing. I did do a full wipe and I did back a backup of the stock rom...
If it's happening across all roms even after wiping fully, then it's probably a hardware problem. I guess it's just a coincidence that you flashed the rom & it stopped working.
You'll need to unroot & take it to Sprint for a replacement.

I recently rooted and installed the arhd Rom and I love it. The Rom has just been updated and I am looking for some answers with regards to flashing this update.
I know the procedure is straight forward, however is there a way I can do it without losing my downloaded apps, data and the way I have configured my screens ?
I used an app to backup my stuff before but it did not store the data. Any help is appreciated.

If you are already running ARHD 6.1.x, you can flash the newest update on top of your current setup without any changes or losing data. No need to superwipe or anything. It's all based on the same base, the changes have been minor bug fixes or app updates here and there.
And just so we are clear, boot into cwm/EXT4 recovery and flash the updated ROM zip. Always a good idea to manually wipe cache and dalvik cache but it's all really straight forward.

Basically everything is in the title. My wifi just doesn't work, I can't connect anywhere! using a lot of data on things that I could really be using wifi for. I've tried different rom's including the latest nightly cm7, the problem started on nightly 48 latest being 50. I'm now using miui and the problem still occurs. Anyone got any idea?

Look like every roms not work with WIFI for you and is this only issues from custom rom? Have you wipe the data/cache in your quest of finding the root cause? How about retail untouch stock rom.
Before sending it back to the store for repair. Could you try flashing retail stock rom to your Defy original state and wipe it in stock recovery. See if it work again and report back.
I assumed you know all the steps of downgrading, flashing and recovery things yourself.
This started happening a while ago (app crashing) on a different rom, and since then I've tried the following with no success;
New rom
New kernel
Full wipe
New gapps (not required on my current rom)
relocked and unlocked bootloader, upgraded from 0.95 to 1.28
Nothing seems to be working on any rom, and now I have just got out of a battery bootloader bootloop the past couple days my phone seems also unable to handle connections; I supposedly have signal however I receive no texts, data connection isn't working as my gmail account has not been synced (so I have no contacts etc) and wifi crashes when I turn it on.
I'm starting to worry this may be a hardware fault! However considering I have unlocked my bootloader I won't be able to return it under warranty! Can you suggest anything else to try? I haven't fully wiped my whole storage (sd card and all) is that an option to try?
Thanks for any help I can get
bump, really stuck here
If you you are using an AOSP Rom a special kernel is required for the new HBoot. Or has this happened on the old HBoot too? If so a hard reset might solve the problem.

Yeah I am using an AOSP rom but it happened on HBOOT 0.95 and still on 1.28. Is that a factory reset from the bootloader? Also which kernel is it? I just used the boot.img included in the zip
You can do it from the bootloader. Essentially its just wiping everything including the sd storage. I dont have much time to look for it right now because im working. But if you use the search function you should find it have you tried to redownload the rom?

This is the rom I'm using atm http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784185 (CM is based on AOSP right?)
and is this the kernel you're talking about? http://htcfanboys.com/download/seadersn/?action=view&file=14552 ? However don't I also
need the zip to flash in CWM?
Yes it is an AOSP Rom, but you dont need the the modified kernel because tripnraver solved the problem in his kernels and Rom. Since you have the problem on other ROMs too i would suggest to perform a hard reset and see if the problem still exists. Just backup everything and reflash Rom.

I might try this AOKP rom that I used before, according to the OP there is a specific boot.img you must use for HBOOT 1.28, so I've downloaded that to and when I get home I'll give it a try. It says a full wipe is required, does that just mean cache/dalvik/wipe in CWM or do I need to run the SuperWipe.zip?

Sorry I just saw this reply, I'll try a factory reset before I try the other rom, cheers
I cant factory reset, everytime I do it just goes into CWM?
I just formatted each partition separately in CWM, re installed etc and pretty much everything seems to be back up and running However I am still having the SMS crash issue :S even though my whole SD card is wiped
At least the rest is working still weird though. Does that happen with any sms app?

Hello,
I'm sorry if this is a repost of any sort . I am currently running a 4.1.2 rom and as it turns out any 4.1.2 rom that I run will have a functioning camera for my phone. However whenever I try to flash any 4.2 .2 rom on my phone the camera ceases to run correctly. I'm flashing the rom with clockworkmod touch and I have also tried flashing a camera fix I found on xda. I have even tried using third party camera apps, but those don't work either. Can anyone try to point me in the right direction or even try to help me troubleshoot this thing??
Thanks in advance

i'll begin with the question of what did you wipe before you flashed 4.2.2 and what ROM/release have you tried flashing?
Flash to factory stock and if ur camera still doesn't work it must logically be a hardware issue. Please guys correct me if I'm wrong

I had just updated cwm to the latest touch version about a month ago. After that I was still on stock TW 4.1.1. Then, I tried flashing a 4.2.2 jellybam v7.6 and the camera stopped working so I flashed back to stock and the camera worked fine. I then tried flashing to the latest realease of CM 10.1 nightly
about 3 weeks ago but the camera didnt work so I flashed to 4.1.2 CSROM v1.4 then 1.5 and the camera worked fine. So I then tried CM10.0 4.1.2 and the camera still worked so last night I flashed to the latest CM nightly and the camera stopped working. Any thoughts?

I did and it still works. So it can't be a hardware issue. It has to do with how my phone flashes the software because I haven't seen anyone else having the same issues with the ROMS that I have been flashing.

if the camera stopped working simply from updating your current ROM to the latest release than a wipe and reflash could possibly have ironed out this issue. this is assuming you dirty flashed the update. we all do that, but in the event things dont funtion properly afterwards, a wipe is required.

Well before I flashed any rom I always wiped all user data, I wiped the cache and dalvik cache and in some cases I even formatted the system in advanced settings. In every case the camera never worked.

i would back everything up. you have a working nandroid to fall back on?
then i would fully wipe the device and start over. you seem to be having problems with 4.2.2, not specifically aosp. it appears aosp and touchwiz 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 are working for you. correct? when transitioning android versions, its basically required to wipe everything in order to avoid issues. make sure you have the latest gapps for 4.2.2. that may be your problem right there.
in the event you choose to wipe and reflash a 4.2.2 rom,
- backup your files
- have a nandroid, the rom you want and gapps on a micro sd card.
- boot into recovery
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache
- wipe dalvik
- format /system
- format /data + media
- flash rom from external sd card
- flash gapps from external sd card
- reboot and let your phone sit a few minutes then reboot again. check it out.
you wont get any ROM support from devs on your issues until you come from a complete wipe. a hassle to set everything up again but it will likely be your fix. if not, we can go a different direction.
Alright I'll try this now. I will keep you updated

Alright I followed all of the above steps and my phone camera still isnt working. For clarification, gallery app works but when I actually try to use the camera I get a "Camera Error - Cannot connect to camera " popup window with an okay button below it.

ROM: cm-10.1-20130521-NIGHTLY-d2att
Gapps: gapps-jb-20130301-signed
EDIT: The problem described in the post#11 has always been the case
i would do 1 of 2 things: flash this 4.2 camera zip in recovery and see if that camera and gallery work or flash a different 4.2.2 ROM like tasks. this will help determine if its just cm10.1 thats giving you grief.
if you download and flash the 4.2 camera, just wipe cache, dalvik and flash the zip. in the event you get a freeze up when taking a picture with auto-focus, you have to set the scene to "Action" mode.

Alright so I ended moving the gallery, then flashing the new camera app in CWM then wiped the cache and dalvik. No luck, so I tried restarting my phone, fixing permissions, and nothing worked. I then full wiped my phone and flashed Vanilla Rootbox, tested camera and it didnt work. It still said "Camera Error- Can't connect to camera" . . I flashed the camera zip provided followed by a cache and dalvik wipe but I got the same message. Following the above steps I did the exact same thing with AOKP and the exact same thing happened.
Is it possible that my phone just can't support 4.2.2?
