Hello,
I'm sorry if this is a repost of any sort . I am currently running a 4.1.2 rom and as it turns out any 4.1.2 rom that I run will have a functioning camera for my phone. However whenever I try to flash any 4.2 .2 rom on my phone the camera ceases to run correctly. I'm flashing the rom with clockworkmod touch and I have also tried flashing a camera fix I found on xda. I have even tried using third party camera apps, but those don't work either. Can anyone try to point me in the right direction or even try to help me troubleshoot this thing??
Thanks in advance

i'll begin with the question of what did you wipe before you flashed 4.2.2 and what ROM/release have you tried flashing?
Flash to factory stock and if ur camera still doesn't work it must logically be a hardware issue. Please guys correct me if I'm wrong

I had just updated cwm to the latest touch version about a month ago. After that I was still on stock TW 4.1.1. Then, I tried flashing a 4.2.2 jellybam v7.6 and the camera stopped working so I flashed back to stock and the camera worked fine. I then tried flashing to the latest realease of CM 10.1 nightly
about 3 weeks ago but the camera didnt work so I flashed to 4.1.2 CSROM v1.4 then 1.5 and the camera worked fine. So I then tried CM10.0 4.1.2 and the camera still worked so last night I flashed to the latest CM nightly and the camera stopped working. Any thoughts?

I did and it still works. So it can't be a hardware issue. It has to do with how my phone flashes the software because I haven't seen anyone else having the same issues with the ROMS that I have been flashing.

if the camera stopped working simply from updating your current ROM to the latest release than a wipe and reflash could possibly have ironed out this issue. this is assuming you dirty flashed the update. we all do that, but in the event things dont funtion properly afterwards, a wipe is required.

Well before I flashed any rom I always wiped all user data, I wiped the cache and dalvik cache and in some cases I even formatted the system in advanced settings. In every case the camera never worked.

i would back everything up. you have a working nandroid to fall back on?
then i would fully wipe the device and start over. you seem to be having problems with 4.2.2, not specifically aosp. it appears aosp and touchwiz 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 are working for you. correct? when transitioning android versions, its basically required to wipe everything in order to avoid issues. make sure you have the latest gapps for 4.2.2. that may be your problem right there.
in the event you choose to wipe and reflash a 4.2.2 rom,
- backup your files
- have a nandroid, the rom you want and gapps on a micro sd card.
- boot into recovery
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache
- wipe dalvik
- format /system
- format /data + media
- flash rom from external sd card
- flash gapps from external sd card
- reboot and let your phone sit a few minutes then reboot again. check it out.
you wont get any ROM support from devs on your issues until you come from a complete wipe. a hassle to set everything up again but it will likely be your fix. if not, we can go a different direction.
Alright I'll try this now. I will keep you updated

EDIT: The problem described in the post#11 has always been the case
i would do 1 of 2 things: flash this 4.2 camera zip in recovery and see if that camera and gallery work or flash a different 4.2.2 ROM like tasks. this will help determine if its just cm10.1 thats giving you grief.
if you download and flash the 4.2 camera, just wipe cache, dalvik and flash the zip. in the event you get a freeze up when taking a picture with auto-focus, you have to set the scene to "Action" mode.

Alright so I ended moving the gallery, then flashing the new camera app in CWM then wiped the cache and dalvik. No luck, so I tried restarting my phone, fixing permissions, and nothing worked. I then full wiped my phone and flashed Vanilla Rootbox, tested camera and it didnt work. It still said "Camera Error- Can't connect to camera" . . I flashed the camera zip provided followed by a cache and dalvik wipe but I got the same message. Following the above steps I did the exact same thing with AOKP and the exact same thing happened.
Is it possible that my phone just can't support 4.2.2?

When I try to open the Camera through the Camera shortcut, it says "Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped."
I think this happened after I flashed NexusHD 4.1, Talk stopped working right after I flashed it (I didn't care because I don't use it), I didn't notice the camera/gallery problem until today (a day or two later). I flashed 4.3 today hoping it would fix i t, it didn't.
Then I tried flashing CM10 Nightly, no luck. Then tried flashing an odexed rooted stock jb rom, still have the same problem. I have tried installig a different camera app, didn't work. I'm now on a factory image.
I did recently open up the phone to fix the power button, I'm not sure if I didn't reconnect something properly to cause the camera to stop working, but this shouldn't cause Talk to stop working right?
If anyone can help me out here that would be great!
Edit: The apps crash on startup.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but camera and gallery app shouldn't matter with the gapps, should it?
I always use the gapps on the ROM thread. And it still has problems even on stock ROMs so it is definitely not gApps. I have tried a rooted OTA ROM and I'm now on a rooted factory image, still not working.
If you can't find any solution and if you're willing to start everything over, do a SuperWipe.
Flash SuperWipe.zip erases EVERYTHING. That includes sdcard folder. This means that you can start over just by flashing this and then flashing ROM of your choice.
Hope that helps
Anybody use Talk? Does it try to use the camera on first start up? I don't have a picture on Google I believe. If Talk is trying to access the camera then maybe I did screw up when I opened it up.
Do you have a link?

Yes gallery and camera is in fact part of gapps I believe. Additionally Google merged the two gallery and camera into a single gallery2.apk. so you definitely need to flash gapps.

Hi there!
I have had an s3 for a few days now and love it!.
Any TW rom and my camera works just fantastic.
Any cm10/aokp/miui/etc rom and I just cant use the camera no matter what app I use to try it, whether it be the built in app or camera360/etc.
Driving me nuts and would love someone to help me. Anyway research I have done hasnt told me what I'm doing wrong.
I wipe cache/dalvik/factory reset/system before each rom. I have tried different kernels but nothing has helped.
Any gurus out there have any ideas on what I can do to fix this?
Your install process would be and please link the files you are flashing... I'll try and help you. I've seen a few people mention this the past couple days.
The most recent I tried to flash was Illusion v1.1.18 - (d2tmo, d2att & d2vzw) - 1|18|13 from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2037028
I downloaded Illusion-v1.1.18-d2tmo.zip and gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip.
I went into recovery which is twrp and the most recent version. I installed it with the goo.im app.
When in recovery I did:
1) Factory Wipe
2) Wipe Cache
3) Wipe Dalvik
4) Wipe System
I would then click Install and select the rom file, and after it succesfully flashed I would then flash the gapps file. All were successful.
I would then reboot and the rom would boot up fine. I setup my google account and all that then for the heck of it I would reboot.
I then would try the camera app and it would complain that it couldnt connect to the camera basically. I went into the play store and tried a free version of camera 360, puddle camera, etc and all would not work.
I went back into recovery, wiped cache and dalvik again, hopped on one foot, faced east, and clicked my heels together. Upon reboot the camera does not work.
I have wiped all that and tried to install [Kernel][JB] Leankernel: Minimalistic Kernel for D2TMO/D2ATT (AOSP) v2.3 [1/17/13] which flashed fine. Upon reboot I could change voltages to undervolt, mess with governors but cameras still do not work.
I have a backup of two TW roms (one stock) and both of the those roms work beautifully with whatever camera I try, including the built in/stock camera.
I hoped I didn't leave out something. If there is something I missed than I'm an idiot because it seems like I am really missing something.
Thanks for your help.
I don't see any reason your steps lead to that, the exact steps I take every time to flash. I'm researching but in the mean time, go to app manager and wipe cache and data from gallery... Are you using the same Gapps over and over on each try? Might wanna try a different set.

I did that earlier with no luck.
I just force stopped on gallery, wiped cache/data, rebooted, and I tried the camera only to get the same message.

I have downloaded this gapps twice for the last rom http://goo.im/devs/itsmikeramsay/gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip.
For the miui rom there was a gapps that was specific to miui and had miui in the name. The miui rom's camera didnt work.
I'll look for a different gapps if that might be the problem but since I have tried a couple roms and a few different gapps I feel that might not be the issue.
I still will give it another try though. Just have to find another gapps to try.

Hey guys,
I recently moved to the gs3 and jelly bean so this may be a known solution but for the life of me I can't find it. I've tried liquid 2.1 and 2.2 both with multiple gapps and still have the problem on clean wipes. Phone itself is only a day old.
When I start my camera it lags for a minute showing no picture then crashes, saying gallery has stopped. The funny thing is it actually WORKED before I updated my google apps through play? Worked fine on original rom also. This is driving me nuts as it is literally my only problem and I need my camera, but love this rom.
Thanks!
EDIT: BTW. Gallery starts fine on its own and I've tried the camera32_patched_v2.zip fix I found on another site and no luck(just have two camera icons and both do same thing)

Did factory reset first from settings(not sure if you should do this from inside a rom but oh well) and then rebooted into recovery. Tried rewiping and reinstalling again... Not sure if this will help, but I suggest: Do factory reset from custom recovery, wipe cache and dalvik. Then, install the latest M Snapshot of CyanogenMod found here. Then flash the latest 4.2.2 GAPPS from here. Reboot into system, try out the camera and check if it works. If it works on CM, do factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik then install Liquid Smooth. Good luck!

What I recommend doing is having phone charged to at least 70%, using Titanium Backup to restore your apps, and follow these instructions to the dot. This is what I did while using TWRP 2.5.
1) redownload LS v2.2 and gapps 20130301
2) backup all apps to TB
3) boot into TWRP

What I recommend doing is having phone charged to at least 70%, using Titanium Backup to restore your apps, and follow these instructions to the dot. This is what I did while using TWRP 2.5.
1) redownload LS v2.2 and gapps 20130301
2) backup all apps to TB
3) boot into TWRP
4) select 'Wipe' then 'Advanced Wipe'
5) wipe dalvik cache, system, data, cache
6) flash ROM then gapps

Is there a zip for the old camera to add it back? I just need a working camera don't care which it is.
Have you tried this one? The gallery seems to work. Maybe it will for you too

Does it give you an error, or just close out, FC, any thing? Sounds like an issue that may need some other type of edits. Oh and update your recovery, that's why you have multiple /0 folders....

Didn't work same issue
Tried some of the fixes from that thread too and nothing...
My question now is, I've seen someone saying turning on geotagging fixed the issue. I always turned it off when camera starts the first time, is there some way to turn it back on without redoing rom? Installing that other cam didn't even give me the option again and can't find it in settings.
Still can't get this camera working. Have not even been able to get it to work at all for 2 days now. Someone has to have an idea?
Solution - switch roms. You aren't stuck with roms. Try the aokp port. It's good. So is cm.

I HAVE switched to cm, I'm running it right now. Same exact issue. Works once in a blue moon but usually gallery has stopped and force close of camera. Worked on stock, this is a brand new replacement I got last week.
Ok guys, these are modded versions of TDJ's tools to add the preload partition. This should allow you to wipe cache and dalvik without jacking up the symlinks. Also for you guys having issues installing a ROM, the superwipe should fix that. First flash the ROM and reboot (important), then if you are having issues flash the super wipe and then the ROM again. Reboot and you should be good.
Thanks again TDJ!!! You rock bro.
Note to other developers: Feel free to link here from your thread, just don't re-upload them please. Thanks
Everyone else: if you see these uploaded anywhere else please let me know. I have no problem with others linking to these but do not want them uploaded anywhere else. Thanks

Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app

If on a TMo based 4.1.2 ROM, yes.
Whats the difference between the two downloads?

One is cache/dalvik, superwipe is data/factory reset.
Well before using the scripts ROM would not boot but after super wipe no problems, TWRP 2.5.0.0

Jamison-does the cache wipe also fix permissions?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Yes it does.

I used these scripts installing a ROM and I am having very serious issues. I was using Clockwork and when I rebooted I got stuck in a boot loop. I booted back into recovery but I was not getting fully back into recovery. I tried several times. I finally ODINed back to stock but I can't get the ****ing phone to boot up. It gets toa popup that says ""unfortunatley google partner setup has stopped" and then if I clear that "Google account manager has stopped", "google calender storage has stopped""unfortuantely the process com. android.phone has stopped". ****. I have tried ODIN to 3.5 stock and 4.0.3 both having similar issues.
Anyone have any idea, may have absolutley nothing to do with these scripts but any ideas would be very much appreciated.
What are you running and what are you trying to flash? Wouldn't be the scripts as they only wipe, format, align the partitions.

I was running CWM 6.0.2.9 touch and trying to flash the StockWalk ROM. I don't know if you have seen something like this before but it seems like I am totally unable to install any GAPPS even when flashing stock ROM in ODIN. I had flashed the same ROM before attempting to use the scripts, the reason was that I was unable to add my google account (may be a defect in the ROM but others are saying they have not had issue).
*when I say install GAPPS I am just refering to the ones that install on TW ROMS, I am not flashing a GAPPS file of any kind

OK so I thought I knew enough to not feel like a noob, but here I am with three questions.
First question is what is a "preload problem"?
Second question is this will only work on 4.1.2, and not 4.2.2 (CM 10.1)?
And the third question is will using the original DS wipes mess something up?
T mobiles 4.1.2 loads a preboot partition. Wiping cache with anything but these scripts also wipes these partitions. This script is modified to not do that. No preboot partition = boot loop.
Thus, if you're on anything BUT Tmobiles 4.1.2 you don't need this script and there's no advantage to using it.

Hi I was trying out the new 4.3 camera and this happend.
I downloaded the apk. It couldn't install so I backed up the original camera and installed the new camera. After installing the new camera freezes, everytime I open the camera again it says Camera could not connect. So I uninstalled the new camera and went to titanium backup, but the backup wasn't there, so I went to system/app but there was no gallery or camera app. My last hope was gapps. I went to recovery flashed gapps, wiped dalvik/cache and still no camera or gallery. And also before installing the new camera I disabled the old camera. I tried to reset app perference but it did not work.
EDIT: Factory reset did not help.
Sounds to me like the problem is you disabled the old camera instead of deleting it outright. You have to completely remove it for the new one to work. I just did a quick backup of it and uninstalled it. Installed the new app and its working perfectly. No having to click focus before taking a picture or anything :good:
Can anyone find a working camera for 4.2.2? I have been searching for hours. Every camera I install, I get can't connect to camera.

Why not flash rom/gapps again in recovery? I'd wipe cache & dalvik then flash and reboot. This should restore the camera and will only take 2 minutes
I just reflashed the whole ROM to fix it.

Did you do a full wipe while on 4.2 and then just reflash the ROM and gapps or just he ROM?

you dont have to do a full wipe for this procedure. simply wipe cache and dalvik the flash the rom and gapps. this will replace the (rom) packaged camera that has been removed. you have to flash gapps when you flash your rom. thats the only reason you're even flashing it at this moment.
