[Q] Mirror backplate? - EVO 4G Accessories

Since they have clear backplate, any chance of a mirror backplate (like the iphone)? To me this is more useful than a clear plate for a number of reasons:
1) Good for camping as a signal mirror (yes, I would take my Evo camping, cuz I can listen to podcasts & watch movies).
2) Chicks would dig this as a compact mirror (I'm not a chick.)
3) Great for slaying Medusa!

A phone this size... it's bigger than anyone's arms I know. I just figured nerds that guy the Evo probably don't play sports.

HAHA, that is exactly what I was thinkin. If you have this phone, it's doubtful you'll have muscles any larger than it
I know the phone is large. I do a lot of running and I would like to use this as my MP3 player.
i actually got it to fit into my belkin ipod touch 2G arm band...just need to cut a little at the top to make it stretch wide enough to slide in the evo...it will be a snug fit.
My arms ar much bigger than the evo... haha... im just... serious
Google EVO armband and you'll find one. I got one for $4.95 shipping was like $ 6.95 but now I'll have one. I'll give a review once I get it and try for a few days.
Look it up on Ebay. 10 bucks. With free shipping.

Let us know how you like it.
I like using buddy trainer or something like that to track my runs and I'd much prever the EVO on my arm instead of my waist band.
Thanks!

It seems like a good deal. It fits into a neoprene slip that will hold the device tightly for when you are working out plus it has a zippered pocket behind if you want to store say a key, id, or money. It seems like it is of decent quality but not OEM or made for the device specifically. I ordered one for my EVO and one for my wifes blackberry and they looked different online but seem as if they aren't any different but for $4.95 I don't regret the purhcase.

Not much option out there right now, but this one it about 20 buck.
I got a lot of 3 universal ones from shnoop a while back. Look similar to this one except a bigger version I think. I don't have an evo yet, but I've used it with my Sansa e270 and Vogue both squeezed in. It zippers all the way around so nothing is going to fall out, but you don't have quick access to the screen either.
how is it that it works with the ATT HTC Aria as well as the evo...
why oh why...... just.... get like a sansa clip or something, they can be had for like 30 bucks. This reminds me of that british iPad spoof video where the guy is screaming while talking on his iPad in public.

Why do people have such difficulty understanding that not everyone has the same needs and desires as they do? Perhaps these folks want to use GPS program to track their run? Perhaps they are on call and need quick access to their phone? The reason doesn't really matter.

Agreed. I used to run with my Zune but after getting my Evo I've been using Cardio Trainer to track my runs. That being said, I ordered an arm band from Amazon the other day. It looks like it's out of stock now, but it's not bad. It's universal so the buttons aren't the easiest to get to. But, in my opinion I really don't care; it holds it on my arm that's good enough for me.
I stand corrected and apologize.

Maybe you try this one? Slimmer than some of the others ive seen and its designed specifically for the EVO. Ive not seen it in person but it looks ok from the site. Give it a shot, let me know!
Would work awesome with Google My Tracks

um bb, can you post a link or the site? im interested in seeing one specifically designed for the evo, thanks!
i am still looking for one that will fit my arms...and yes i am a bodybuilder geek. the only one i see out there only goes up to 15" arms and i am at 19" maybe keep it on my forearm?

Magnetic EVO case for motorcycles

Hey guys. i was wondering if there is a magnetic case for the EVO that would allow me to stick it to my Motorcycle gas tank. that way i can see incoming calls/texts and decide if it's important enough to pull over and deal with.
if anyone has any suggestions, even DIY's i'd love to hear 'em! thanks
Lots of tank bags with clear windows would be your best bet.http://www.newenough.com/parts/luggage/tank_bags/
What I am interested in is a solid handlebar mount that would let me video my ride.
you don't think that shock would be a problem? bouncing over bad roads, potholes, speed bumps, normal riding vibration would be a problem? also, i have yet to see a good bike solution that would secure the phone well enough. my fear has always been it would vibrate loose from it's enclosure and fall out during a ride. that would SUCK!!

I'm with you on that. With some rubber or foam to dampen vibration, and a solid stand, I don't see how this is out of reach.
One would have to wonder what the effect would be on a phone with a powerful magnetic field right next to it. It may mess up stuff like the compass, the GPS, and the accelerometer. If powerful enough even the battery. I would be careful.

Changing magnetic fields are what mess up electronics so the magnet there stationary *should be OK*. Here's an option - a rare earth magnet inserted into the Seidio 3500 mAh battery back - i.e. use a standard battery and put it into the case for the extended battery. Then put the phone in the extended Innocase and it'll all be held together. Throw some felt on the back to protect your tank and away you go.
* I am not responsible for any damage to your phone.
EDIT
And for power you can use an SAE (i.e. Batterytender) to 12V socket adapter from Powerlet here.
I just bought a bike and have been thinking about this too.
I don't want to mount my phone for the stated reasons, vibration and risk of losing it. But have you seen this Sony LiveView?
http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/28/sony-ericsson-liveview-acts-as-a-1-3-inch-remote-control-for-you/
I'd love to get one of those and stick it to the gas tank!
Wow! i hadn't seen that(and i frequent engadget) good find! any word on pricing?
i had another thought the other day. what about using a football playbook wristband? i dunno if it's even feasible but i figured id run by the local sporting goods and give it a shot

I have a couple small rare earth magnets in my battery cover. The only drawback is the compass and metal detector functions are unavailable (no loss to me). Personally, I would worry more about my tank scratching than anything. The tank bag with clear cover is likely your best bet.
Personally, I ride to ride...not to look at my phone. Be safe.
* I am also not responsible for any damage to your phone.

I fee like a wristband would be more of a pain than it's worth. Of course I also listen to music from my phone on a bluetooth helment, and woud like an easy way to skip tracks. With the phone on your wrist, you obviously won't be able to interact with it at all.
I haven't seen any pricing info, and "final quarter this year" is all I've heard on release date. But hey, we are now in that final quarter
no offense but when your riding i really really hope you arent interacting with your phone anyway. People seem to have death wishes now a day.
I had a handlebar mount for my droid incredible for one main use
gps maps/directions
It worked great on with phone mounted right in front of you there is no worry about taking eyes off road, you still see whats going on in front of you while glancing at maps, in fact easier and safer than changing you car radio etc!
it was also nice if a call came in while on a long ride on great roads here in tennessee, i would see it ringing and just pull over to answer/call back
makes it very handy while out riding for the day

mountainbike mount

Hi guys,
ive found some bike mounts for the s2, but none of them looked solid enough to be ready for my mountainbike.
The phone should be completely covered by plastic, plexiglass or another material solid enough to survive light blows, dirt and light rain, and it should not fall of after passing the first curb.
Any suggestions?
i´ve seen mountainbike mounts for other mobile devices wich could work perfectly for the SGS II, maybe you shouldn´t look for a specific mount for the SGSII, just look for a mountainbike mount for a mobile device with a similar size as the SGS II.
Another interested here ^^ When i got the phone in a few weeks, i´ll look for that mount too.
Be very careful.
If you are MTBing versus riding on the road. The vibrations are too harsh and cause issues with the internal connectors.
I personally have lost a garmin GPS and my HTC Polaris phones. First ride and within 15 mins started rebooting etc. Garmin stated to reboot with just fine knocks.
Warned a mate when he was mounting a iphone, decided to risk it and 5 mins his touchscreen failed. Another mate his iphone started to reboot.
this may be ok... :

I bought one but still waiting for delivery
Agaryt, please report when you test it. I'm rally curious if this will do the job.
no problem
I should have it before Thursday , so no late than Monday I let you know how does it work
Very interested too!
Looks exactly like what I was looking for, looking forward to hands-on report.
I was thinking about buying this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004Q4Q6QS/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=stdscaba-21
but one found by agaryt looks better, although it is bit more expensive.
Was biking the other day and wondering this very thing, however...

...this post does worry me. Biking can lead to very sharp knocks while riding along the trails, and even a phone in a lined case would be at risk.
Normal city and tour riding would likely be fine... but proper mountain biking? The potential something to be concerned about imo.
The one agaryt linked to on Ebay does look great though... if I was to get one out of that one and the one posted on Amazon i'd definitely spend the measly few pounds extra and get that one.
im also quite worried about vibration on the bike even without any connector.
i'd much rather have something to snap the phone on my (inner, up, to protect it) arm for example. you can see still the track etc quite easily (not as easily as if its mounted on the bike, but much better than in the pocket..)
I think ill buy one of the allready mentioned universal mounts where the s2 is put into a "bag" (the one from ebay looks great).
As there is no solid connection between handlebar and s2, i don`t think that those fine vibrations are a problem. Maybe theres even enough space in the bag to add some extra, soft material to absorb vibrations.
Also i think that the phone is safer on the bikes handlebar than on my arm, as i landed in hospital twice while my bike was undamaged ^^
Hmm, I would be a little nervous about the connector from the case to the mount.
Also, I assume you can feed a charging cable in where the two zips meet?
I would love to be able to use my phone on my bike and do away with my seperate SatNav. After a mount I would just need a bluetooth helmet!
Have you looked into these? I have universal mount for my iPhone and works perfectly.

I've got it for couple day now .
I have to say , It is really waterproof , I don't mean you can swim with it but I was running when rain and my galaxy was safe . After finish was totally dry ... That the most important for me .The problem is when you want to use headphones . There no hole for it . But to be honest if you biking better option is bluetooh headphones anyway . Quality is really well .
I took some pictures for everybody.
Any questions just let me know .

Thanks for the update Gary.I have to say that I wouldn't want to use my S2 in the front of either my road or mountain bike even if these holders do look fairly secure.
I have a Garmin 705 which is a dedicated unit for cycling. Routing is way easier to sort out and I also get helpful stats such as cadence and HR too. A bluetooth HR monitor is quite expensive for what it is.

i made a mountenbike trip last week from 400 km in 4 days
and i whas using a universal bike holder but the weather was dry and sunny.
i used Osmand to navigate and its realy great i think its the best app for the bike.
The bad thing whas my battery (only 4 hours of navigation)
so i need a 3500mah or more battery for a minimum of 8 hours navigation.
Thanks Agaryt!
Few questions:
1. Is the screen remains visible under the cover?
2. Can you use the touch screen?
3. What about the vibrations during the ride? Is the phone OK inside?
Some general advice from someone who used a mount with his old SGS1:
Most of these mounts have a mounting part that is attached to the bike and then some kind of click-lock system to hold the actual device in place. If so, then that is a very important weak point that you will want to look out for! These point can get loose and will sling your phone into the air if you don't secure them additionally with some straps or whatever fits your specific holder.
My I9000 had to experience that several times (albeit with no permanent damage outside of scratches) and this was not on something as wild as a MTB but something as "smooth" as a racing bike (on flat asphalt, although you need some kind of bump to make the phone fly off)

Hello .
Screen is visible very well and touch screen works more than good . Honestly I didn't ride with it yet . I was running twice so far included once when rain and both times phone was dry after .
I used two different arm band for my galaxy and galaxy 2 but nothing protected as good as this one . I mean protection against damp (sweat ) or rain .

Video Review: iOttie WATERPROOF skins for Galaxy Nexus (I DUNK MY PHONE IN WATER!)

Hey guys,
Got my hands on a very cool product, the iOttie waterproof skins. These are thin plastic skins that make your device fully waterproof, allowing you to dunk or submerge it in water. At first I was skeptical of the product, but in the video below I actually demonstrate dunking my Galaxy Nexus in a tub of water and it coming out super dry!
If you need a waterproof solution for you device, I really cannot recommend this enough.
Check out the video for the demo dunking test:
I go to the beach quite a bit, even with an Otterbox Defender I still get worried. Thanks for the review!

pretty cool -- but unless you just have money falling out of your pocket 20 dollars for this for a single charges worth of protection is a bit steep.
Charging wouldn't be so much an issue with me as I have the induction charging mod on my phone. So I could in theory leave it in it's baggie for weeks (or as long as the material didn't degrade)
Did you try to make any voice calls on the device while it was wrapped? I know it's impossible to listen to any music via the mini jack... bluetooth could solve both of these problems. That being said if your phone is around water, I dont think bringing a 100 dollar bluetooth headset would make too much sense.
Still interesting - if I was rich and could scuba dive in some tropical paradise -- would be interesting to see if you get a signal under water, hah scuba video chat anyone?
You have guts to dump it in the water haha!
The things you do to help out the community!! Thanks a lot!
I used ziplock bags, bought bulk from Costco, for my water trips. I usually double bag them if I am going swimming with it.
Also boat shops, and others such as Academy, also sell waterproof carriers.
Kudos to you for actually going the extreme to test the product. I would never test a product like this. I'd probably just take their word on it.

Sorry, I forgot to mention call quality in the video. I did test it a couple of times and it was very muffled, more than anything the volume output was low, so it was tough to hear the caller on the other line.
I probably wouldn't recommend making calls with the iOttie, however it is possible, so if you desperately need to try it - it will work.
it looks amazing
but i dont really give my nexus a try in water pool
It seems work, but I still won't put my nexus into water even with it, thanks for share anyway!

My nerdy Note accessories for active lifestyle (pic heavy)

Yeah, I'm a geek with no fashion sense but I'm happy and the Note is always with me, handy, and well protected.
I've got the Seidio active with kickstand case for protection and so I can wear it on my belt.
I run several times a week here in Houston and I sweat like a pig. So I put the note with its case inside a LokSak bag. The Loksak'ed Note goes inside a SPIbelt for workouts so I can use the Zephyr bluetooth heart rate monitor and my Jaybird headphones while I run.
For the car, I've got the X mount from RAM Mounts. It is a snug fit but with a little practice I can get it in and out of the cradle without taking off the case.
For the bicycle / motorcycle I've got the RAM mount Aquabox. The fit is perfect, it is a friction fit in the frame of the aquabox. The aquabox is way too deep but for now I just store my wallet there. Eventually I will try to throw an extended battery there if I can figure out the electrical connection. Touch events don't work through the plastic screen cover but if I hope to cannibalize a spen for a workaround.
Hope this helps some note accessory freaks.
Can you actually see where you're driving in your car with the Note directly in front of you?!
I've got my mount clipped to an air vent, still in reach and doesn't get in the way of my view! Also, your Note won't get fried by the sun on a hot day, instead it'll be cooled by the AC.

It looks bad in the picture but sitting in the car you are much higher and it does not block much view. I'll put it this way, if something is close enough to be obscured from that angle, you're already gonna hit it anyway .

Search for "air vent mount carkit" or something like that, they're pretty common. The one I got is a universal one, not specifically to the Note. IMO, much more convenient, because other people can use it too. And you don't have to get rid of it when you get your Note 2
