My friend has a Desire and he isnt pleased with the battery life at all.
I told him to root and install a custom ROM and it will help, as it did with me (Motorola Milestone).
Do the custom ROMS for the desire have better battery life? How many hours can you get out of it?
He hardly gets a day and doesnt even use much data, mostly texts, maybe short calls, and just brief stints of data
i use oxygen 2.0.2 and had the same usage as your friend, more or less.
my battery stands for almost 20 hours.
do check the auto-sync options and 2G-3G network setting.
turn-off the GPS, WiFi bluetooth if it isnt used.
and maybe your friend could install Juice Defender from market to conserve battery.
hope that helps
I second the vote for Oxygen. I heavily use data for Twitter, Facebook, four email accounts and several short browsing sessions daily. I also make a handful of calls (often with Bluetooth) and SMS a lot. I jump on and off MSN with imo.im beta (my current multi-protocol IM client at the moment) and get almost 20 hours a day. I've always had battery life problems in the past.
Your friend won't regret it.

Another vote for oxygen. Phone out of the box for me I only get about 24 hours. On oxygen 2.0 with moderate use - wifi always on, browsing forums and email, calls, no widgets except for weather and date, I got 2 days 9 hours! That's also with setcpu and rokee mod (check oxygen forum). Very happy so far and don't think I will be upgrading anytime soon unless I can get better battery life.

I am using the RCMIXHD and for now I haven't seen a huge improvement ... but I keep everything on and still have to tweak around .
AuraxTSense v8.4
Standby Time 8day's.
With checking time/date and mail from time to time.
Google latititude enabled and face book enabled.
Allmost no wifi involved btw.
So with oxygen, since he doesnt leave wifi or data on all the time, and only sparingly uses it, I assume he would get a lot more than 20 hours of use?
wow the auraxtsense sounds good

I would agree with the people suggesting oxygen, although i haven't tried the most recent one I have tried other AOSP ROMs (Such as Cyanogenmod and Redux) but you do however sacrifice the incredible camera for a terrible AOSP one, so I personally like to use Sense ROMs for that reason. There are some Kernels that can improve the cpu usage-thus improving battery life when using HTC sense based roms. I would either recommend either LeeDroid or AuraxTsense (the one i currently use) and with heavy use i can easily get a working day from it (from 9am to 5pm) and it'll only JUST reach the 20% mark for me which is fine
Using the Redux 1.1.0 rom with newest radio (32.54) and coutts99 2.6.38 CFS HAVS kernel. Battery life has never been better, 2 days since recharge, couple of games of Worms and 3d table tennis, some emails, browsing for maybe one hour, listened to a Brian Eno CD and maybe 15 minutes of talking on the phone. 56% left!
I was positively shocked. I reckon the largest cause for this was the new radio and kernel, Wi-Fi reception seems to be a bit weaker TBH than with 32.49 but this battery life is definetely worth it.
I was having severe battery issues with my desire - looked at logs via currentwidget etc - found I'm use around 55ma on standby !!
Long story short and after lots of research I found I was a victim of the usb brick bug... anyway, unbricked and now my use is around 4 to 6 ma standby on CM7 RC4..
I'm running Cyanogen since the Release Candidate 1 with the latest RADIO and this kernel: http://mirror.couttstech.com/android/index.php?dir=bravo/kernel/aosp-2.6.38/CFS/ (CFS, HAVS, Ginger).
I only use 3G when idle and WiFi for downloading updates.
Sync is on
Bluetooth and GPS are off.
Underclocked to 800 MHz when active, Max 256 when idle. Min-Frequency set to 128 MHz.
Undervolted by 50-100 mV.
I'm listening about 30 minutes/day to online radio (via 3G)
Trillian is enabled in background (ICQ,MSN,AIM,GoogleTalk)
With this, my desire loses around 40-50% in 14 hours (around 3% hour). Most battery hog is the online radio (drains 15%).
If I do not listen to online radio and if I disable Trillian but keeping everything else enabled, the drain is around 1%/hour (tested over night).
For me this is the best I could get and I'm fine with it (Also: My battery only has 85% of original capacity left).
vote for Oxygen2 or CM7. Try this Kernel too. Sync only every 3h-6h (FB/Twitter/Weather/...)
In my case Oxygen 2.0.2 is draining approximately 1% of battery every 4 hours on standby with wifi on. Kinda hard to beat that I guess.
I am using InsertCoin 2.0.1 Data2Ext
My Settings:
-Syncs: FB 6hr, Push e-mail for yahoo and googlemail, News 4 hrs, weather 3 hrs, and htc sense based on change.
-2G/3G set to auto
-CPU freq: 384-1075MHz with interactive...yes I am OCing a bit.
-Night in the City live wallpaper.
-WiFi always on at home.
-(not really a setting) GSM signal strength is somehow always full at home.
-advance task killer every 1 hr.
I have tested the battery life at home and it resulted with those settings above about 25% reduction in 12-14Hrs on standby.

I know that one.
I have tried not to use any task killer but the battery usage is somehow better with task killer running.
On the other hand, if I set the task killer faster than 1 hr, the battery life is drained drastically.
Longer than 1 hr will not give me any effect on battery life.
I also know those are only based on subjective judgement.

oh i was going to post something like this.
Using Stock 2.2 Rom.
I've found i actually get better usage with WIFI always on rather than OFF and switching between 3G to WiFi and then tun it off.
so switch phone on at 7am @ 100%, switch off at 11:30pm and im around 85% usage.

I think I might have this problem as well, been doing a search, but not sure where to look, did you follow the procedures for usb brick, or are you talking about something else. I downloaded the current app and it shows 44amp all the time, any info on where to look for a cure is appreciated.

Yeah - followed procedures for USB brick and worked fine.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691187
Having a little trouble with usb brick procedure, I think my cache was corrupted, so I unrooted and thought I would start again. So far unrooted, replaced original battery back in taking out 3000 mah one, and funny the amps go down, when gone into idle, but they do shoot up to 130 something or more when doing things. Then I replaced it with the 3000 amp one, and it still stays at 44mah, so I think it is the battery, it won't go down in amps for some reason, well atleast I have a backup battery incase.
Aight so I downloaded juice defender free last night cause I've been having battery heat problems.....but it shuts off my 3g connection when the screen goes off and I can't seem to find the setting for it....I use Pandora radio so this is a bit of a *****.....any solutions?
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Thats pretty much the only thing Juice Defender free does that can save your battery, that and turning off wifi too. So if you disable it why even have Juice Defender installed? I too tried the free version for about 2 days and could never get my wifi or 3g to come back on so I uninstalled it and thanked god I hadn't paid $10 for the paid version. IMO its crap.
Juice defender is terrible. It kills your battery. well thats my experience...

Terrible app. If it does anything then it kills the battery... Brings android system to the top of the usage list, because it shuts off 3g and wifi..

Screen is still the top on my usage.
I have the paid version. It gives you the ability to lock items (like Pandora) "on" for data usage. Then, they don't get killed.
I had amazing battery life with it on my D1. Jury is still out on the Incredible. I'm still working through ROMs and Kernels.
I use it also. It has this new feature that you can tell it your local wireless and leave it alone. Problem is it doesn't work. Keeps shutting off my wireless when I'm using it! Very frustrating.
Also their developer is not very accessible. They want all issues solved through their forums. I hate that...The best software also has an accessible support system.
The one good thing I will say about it is it has the potential for taking over all aspects of managing your phone. A one stop shop. Just not there yet...
I used to use Juice Defender with 2.1 and found that it helped battery life. However, with Froyo, it just made the phone unstable. (It'd just sponaneously reboot sitting on my hip 2-3 times a day.) After uninstalling all is well.
A co-orker's Sprint phone had the same flakyness until he uninstalled JD.
Wild! I have never had random reboots. But, we all know how unique these devices are... even between the same model.
With warm twopointtwo, it doesn't seem to be turning on all the time... or warm is somehow killing it.
dbaps - are you still in 'training' for the wifi? It takes JD a couple of times to fully learn your location (based off of towers) and remember that as a wifi location. Check under the settings...it'll tell you what percentage of training it has completed.
Those of you who say its crap obviously dont have it configured correctly. I bought "ultimate juice" and when you go into the custom or aggressive profiles you can tweak everything until your heart's content! It still seems to shut off data when Im streaming stuff with slacker and connected to wifi, even though I tell it not to. Other than that it definitely will give you a few extra hours if you spend the time to configure it properly.
Terrible app!

There is no correct configuration to this app. That is why it is called "Custom". The reason it is CRAP is due to the reason you list as a problem among numerous other features that don't work.
Seriously, why have an option to automatically tweak CPU values if the option doesn't work with 99% of the kernels on the market, which also includes the STOCK kernel?
Yeah, it's a GREAT app!

True. For clarity's sake, I was using JD free so I don't know if any other version would have been better or worse. It's possible that the complex WiFi network at work (multiple APs per floor with a centralized controller) confused things.
My phone is a droid incredible, the co-worker's is a Sprint Epic. Different symptoms - he had phone lockups requiring battery removal to recover. Rooted, re-ROMed and still crashing until Juice Defender removed.
If you use Ultimate Juice and set up things correctly. This programs rocks.
It will turn on and off your data (3g and wifi) when you need it (according to the conditions you set).
It takes a little bit of reading and intuition, trial and error, and PATIENCE.
Use it for more than 1 day. Your phone usage varies day to day.
Again, read the text, THINK, and setup the conditions according to the way YOU need them.
I get at least 20-40% more battery depending on how I use my phone. I rarely charge mid-day any more and I can count on my phone having battery throughout the most useful hours of the day.
On light to moderate use, I get at least 14-18 hours. Just for fun, I once tested it and got about 29 hours before the battery hit 5%. That's with a little texting and a few phone calls. I use the stock, standard capacity battery as well.
SET IT UP RIGHT!
I've had no issues with JD running on 2.2.
Set on Aggressive. Only annoying thing is that I get the error notification icon for Weatherbug Elite every two hours because data is shut off.
First - I've got the most recent JD installed. The old one was kind of lame. People have made some good points, but there is a lot of incorrect information in this thread...
It works. If you are *NOT* actively using your phone, it will save your battery by disabling communication you don't need. I can go to bed at 80%, wake up 7 hours later at 79%, maybe 78% at the worst case.
If you are using your phone, it's quite nice - it comes on quickly - and manages my network well (at home, uses WiFi, elsewhere - 3G).
It's not $10.
My wife is using the free version and has had zero problems.
I've never tried aggressive, but maybe I will.
I cant comment on the CPU stuff - never used that.
Scott
I've never had a problem either. I'm running Skyraider 3.5 with incredikernal 2.6.32.27. I have the free version set on advanced. The best battery lift I've gotten with light phone use, texting, data syncing and browsing was 72 hours. Same use with stock rom and kernal my best was about 18 hours before I needed to charge. I know everyone is different, but that's my experience.

When I tried it back last Fall the paid version was indeed $10, its now down to $5. Which I still believe is way too much for this app. My 3g would not turn back on no mater what I did and yes I read the tutorials many times and had it set properly.

Perhaps for you. For me (stock ROM on my dinc) it made the phone unusable. Calling that observation "crap" or "lame" is convenient, but doesn't reflect the experience that I had (and which others had).
Again, with Android 2.1 JD did help a great deal. With 2.2, it didn't help battery life but made the phone crash. This was not a positive trade-off.
With froyo, I can go two days on my incredible between charges given light usage without it. Why put up with the instability just to get a few extra hours of battery life?
For example, I'm currently at 62% after 15 hours since unplugged with moderate usage of the phone, with WiFi and Bluetooth enabled. I could just turn off Bluetooth except when I'm in the car, but I doubt it'd buy me more than a few extra hours of useful life.
Juice defender has caused me multiple problems. Was the source of phantom call drops and sleep of death!! As soon ad I removed it, problems solved.

Also corrupted two SD cards, losing all my files, because of sleeps and reboot caused by JD. Does not play well with Z and HD roms at all. Works at first but soon became the cause of a lot of problems.

Hi,
I just got my HTC One X and I love it. The only downside to it so far is after leaving it on charge overnight im lucky if I get 5-6hrs out of it.
Im on the default OS and ive only installed some apps but im pretty much in the dark where to start.
Can anyone recommend the best rom to use or even just good apps or ways to make my battery life extend?
Thanks and again sorry if this is a noob question.
Have you updated your device with all the official updates? Have you disabled fast-boot, auto-brightness, satellite-GPS and all other wireless options that you don't need and opted for a 30-40% luminance rating (screen remains legible) in Settings? The operating time you get, as stated of 5-6 hrs seems pretty low. I get at least double that with intensive usage, and I mean it, THD Games! Keep in mind however that the screen of HTC ONE X, REALLY, IS the most power-demanding component of our smartphone and there isn't much that can be done about it.
As to your question, Villain rom is considered by many to be battery-friendly although pretty basic. In addition and if you have a rooted/unlocked device (I still haven't rooted mine because I'm perfectly satisfied with it for now), you can also give a try to the SetCore app that can be found i the Apps section of the HOX forum and as its name implied it allows you to control and deactivate cores at will. Also try out the well-known SetCPU app to underclock the processor and get more life from it.
Although, if you've purchased your phone recently, you may simply have to charge some more to condition the battery and then it will get to normal levels, of ~12-15hrs of serious usage.
first of all you do not need a rom that is based on battery life..all roms are the same with just few different modifications to it. choose a rom that YOU like and not based on what other people tell you. Then you can do a few things to get better battery life. as the poster above me stated you can do what he mentioned..but i still with autosync on, GPS on and autobrightness i can manage to get over 3hrs screen on time and over a day and a half battery life. Go into settings and sound and untick touch keypad sounds and lockscreen sound and dialpad sounds...come out and reboot the phone..you might think why but trust me that causes drainage to the battery and keeps the phone wake when the screen is off. second if you use twitter and facebook i would suggest to use them only when you log in..do not have it on in the background. if you still need more help PM if you like
but search for Touch Xtreme rom by Smarberg...that is a good rom based on battery more than anything else.

Im sure all the official updates are done. I use wifi in house and 3g when outdoors. Ive got bluetooth and gps disabled and as of now my screen is off automatic. Ill keep charging like you say to condition the battery but can you overcharge it?
I'm on stock and my battery seems to be OK.
The multitasking on another hand is shockingly bad.
Please someone give me aokp or cm9

I fixed multitasking with an init.d script that lowers the low memory killer values. All the apps stay in memory now without closing... like they are supposed to.
Some say HTC set the values so high to save battery, but that is crap. No power is used when the app is held in memory, infact less is used as the apps aren't constantly being opened closed and reloaded. I think they just messed up.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
Recently i installed ICJ. Since my Battery started decreasing quiet fast, i remembered a guide from the good old Desire days. It was a really good, indepth view on how to determin
what burns your Battery and how to set up your phone perfectly.
In the last view days i tried applying some of these tips and found them more or less usefull.
Since HOX is a Tegra device some things are handled differently. So i thought it might be time to update this a bit and let you participate in my hunt for the best battery performance.
First of: I couldn't find the original guide. So no link here (sorry). I will correct this if i find the right thread. This is all my own work! I don't use any part of another post.
By now this is nowhere near complete, but i'm constantly adding. If you wan't to contribute, PM me and i will consider adding your content (with credit ofc).
Since a lot of testing and time intensive tasks are included here, it may take some time to come to some "final" results. Please bare with me because my phone is my daily driver to.
Introduction
To final start of, i think i should determin the goal of this guide. I hope that this will grow to be a reference for general Powersaving on HOX and finding what is wrong (or could
be improved) with your phone. To be clear:
This is not done in 10 minutes! You need time to test different things. So you won't be able to read a short post, change three settings, deinstall an app and double your Batterylife! Period! This is a approach of finetuning and getting the most
out of your phone. I don't want 24h Battery life with a laggy non useable phone. which leads to:
Setting your goals
It is crucial to determin what you expect from your phone. Remember: this is a quadcore phone with high-end-graphics. You won't be playing Shadowgun and get 10h of "Playtime"
My personal goals are as following
I plug of charger at 05:10 and come back home around 19:00. I would like to have 15% left when coming home (already done with ARHD)
Usage per day:
3h Music
4h forum reading
some browsing and reading webpages
4-5 phonecalls
a bit of texting (SMS/What'sApp)
a bit of playing with settings and homescreen settings
nearly no gaming and if so then no tegra games
a bit of lag is no problem, but i don't want to wait for my phone to load anything
flawless music playback while screen off
Video playback up to 1080p
no Radio issues (to low voltages can make radio instable at times...)
So all in all no great things, but i'm using my phone a lot and have high screen on times. But i'm not pushing the tegra chip to it's limits (not nearly ) I think my goal is
realistic. Remember that your goal should be doable. Just think of what you expect, and you will see relativly fast what can be done and what can't. So what are we working wwith?
My Setup
Just to give you some insight, and to make values comparable, i give you all the relevant information about my setup. You might skip this paragraph if you're just after the tools
and techniques.
My Phone
HTC One X (Obviously)
Black one
Vodaphone Germany Branded

I got mine relatively early and have one of the first badges...
My Software
atm (16.10.12) IceColdJelly 3.0
Android 4.1.2
Nova Launcher (No theme)
BB10 Lockscreen Mod
NCX Kernel (comes with ICJ)
Apps (most recent used, Basic Setup. The Core i use. Others come and go ):
Airdroid
DB Navigator
ES Explorer
Noom
S-Finanzstatus
Tapatalk
Titanium Backup
YouTube
Gapps 20120726
Rest is stock and preinstalled
Other things relevant
I Use HTC standard charger with original HTC USB-Cable
most of the time i don't use a case, nut now and then i have a HTC Flipcase installed
No other accesoirs (No Bluetooth things, no BlingBling or dock or anything like this!)
...
General idea
The idea is, to determin how much current is drawn on a fresh install without apps and only google account entered. After that i want to determin what apps/accounts/settings draw
how much power. I will start from my current setup (see above) and not with a clean install. Reason for that is, that i want to give you a guideline to follow. I think most of
you have your phone setup ready and need more batterytime now.
Atm i'm not on Sense and until there is no universal JB Sense for all CID's i won't go back. So right now, you Sense user might be able to follow parts of this guide but settings
may vary. So you might have to get your head around that for yourself.
Preparation
No, finaly, we dive into geting our hands dirty.
You will need some tools and apps to measure different things. I highly recommend using the apps i use, because they are on the market for a long time, they don't draw aditional
power while in background and i use them for nearly 4 years now without problems. Also no adds, which is great because adds are one of the things that rape your battery like mad!
Things you'll need
A wallcharger (USB on a PC will work, but increases the time you need for this process alot)
Apps
BetterBatteryStats (free Version on XDA. Link will be added later)
CPU Spy
Current Widget
What the apps are for
BetterBatteryStats gives you an overview of what is using your Battery/CPU. Not as clearly labeld as the System option, but much more in depth and highly usefull to
determin which part of certain apps draw your power. Also you can see if your phone goes to deepsleep.
CPU Spy lists all CPU Frequency steps and how long they have been used. Again, seeing if your devices goes to deepsleep and if an app keeps using the CPU more
then it should be.
Current Widget is probably the most usefull app to date. It shows how much current is drawn from your Battery and writes it into a log. So you can directly see
if a change affected your Batterytime. And you don't have to have your screen on to measure (great plus here )
Reseting battery stats
To start of clean i highly recommend wiping your battery stats. Do do this, fully charge your phone (100% and then wait till charging light goes green, but minimum 30 min).
plug of charger and shutdown your phone. Replug charger and again wait till charging light goes green. Plug of charger and reboot phone. Now your Battery history should
be clear and we're good to go.
The rest follows as i proceed. I'm currently in the process of investigating and testing on my phone. If you think this guide might help you or others, give a thanks.
If something like this is already done stop me now, before i spend 100h writing this Suggestions or tips for improvement are welcome and highly appreciated. If i made a mistake or have given wrong information, tell me and i'll correct asap.
Please bare with my english and my spelling since i'm from germany and english is not my primary language.
Other than that, bye for now. Enjoy reading.
Thanks to all XDA-Members, Devs and Content creators. I've had 4 awesome years in this forum till now and enjoy giving back a bit to the community.

It's not about finding the one app that eats up all our batterylife. It's more of a guideline to determin which specific apps and habbits burn your battery.
For me Juice Defender always used more battery running in background than it saved, but it's up to you to test it, and give me some feedback. Surprise me and i'll add it to the guide

Sorry I missed that point – it's to discover your own personal usuage habits that tie in with (excessive) battery drain. If you want me to run it seperately as like, a comparison then yeah of course. I will reset my battery stats and use JuiceDefender. For how long though?

I think 1 hour of the same activity should be enough to determin a percentage of gain or loss in batterylife.
Well, I have recently installed a new ROM (ViperX) and installed Google Now which has battery drain issues. In the hour tested I've received 10 emails, four texts (sent three) two facebook notifications, downloaded a 4mb app and listened to approximately 16 mins worth of music. I suppose that counts as moderate to high usage. With Juice Defender I am on 89% I was loosing much more than 10% per hour before now.
Hopefully this helps?
Yeah, I have a drainage of 547mA after fresh reboot which is crazy... Google location service is one of the suspects. I'm investigating in that now, which would respond to you saying Google now is draining. I dropped 10% in 3h of screen off which would mean 30h of standby. Sounds somewhat low to me.
I'm in the testing today, and tomorrow I will write part two. Let's see what's to find there...
One thing. What settings did you use with juice defender?

Just had it on 'Balanced' – there is a fix for the battery drain issue with Google Now combined with Sense roms. But the apk decompiling process is a little out of my comfort zone!
Sounds interesting

Good luck with this man. I was thinking of doing something like this once Faux's kernel 12 comes out of beta, but I don't think I need to anymore
ATM I'm struggling to get consistend results. I have hours where my battery is sucked with over 600 mA idle. And then everything is fine with around 190 mA. All without changes in the last days. Really strange...
Gesendet von meinem HTC One X mit Tapatalk 2
190mA is really high for idle
I just installed Current Widget, it doesn't seem to record idle screen-off usage. Battery Monitor Widget is waaay better for recording mAh used. Even works with screen off.
How many people here use juice defender and what do u think of it? I recently purchased juice defender ultimate and want to know if it is really worth it or not.

From my own opinion, don't use any app that said for saving battery, I feel useless.
Warmest Greeting From Batam - Indonesia
It's useless tbh
Battery can save only by low brightness, less active connections and less ram consuming apps...
Battery savor apps do it automatically... don't waste your money on this kind of apps... do it manually; like me...
I see thanks for the input

Any app that claims to save battery only uses more battery by doing processes you can do yourself, so all you are doing is wasting battery instead of saving it...

well actually it does save battery but it depends on how well you know your device
if you know you can manage it yourself then ok you dont need it but it also helps by turning off data when the screen is off
but really for most people its not worth it and i would highly not recommend it
I used it on another (older) phone and it helped noticeably and I bought the plus version.
On this phone, I'm not so sure. Newer phones seem pretty efficient in the way they turn on/off radios. Currently, I can see JD offering a little benifit if you use it to schedule your syncing times at longer intervals (and you get a lot of email/notifications), and using the night time feature to shut down sync altogether during the night.
On this phone, I've actually had much better results using some customized init.d scripts put together by someone in my other phone's forum. I'm still testing them out, so perhaps I'll have him post it here once I know for sure there aren't any issues.
on this phone, those scripts made much more of a difference than JD did. here's some screen shots of the last two charges. The scripts seems to help most with saving battery when the screen is off. I'm a light user also, and hardly used my phone yesterday.
What are your settings?

I'm on Darkside Evo rom (ICS 4.04) and the jedi ics kernal basted on 3.0.8
I turned JD off last night before I went to bed and when I got up for work this morning, my battery had dropped from 68% to 48%. With JD on, I usually only get about 9-10% drop. So I'm keeping JD.
======
*edit* I had tried that cpu sleeper app (old version I believe), and I think it messed up some things I had going before I installed it, since my batter life dropped off a lot. So I'm going to reflash the rom today and set everything up again without it. I see there is a newer version in the market, so perhaps I'll try that one later.
======
For JD, I use the customize profile, and have the mobile data option enabled (turns off when screen is off),
I have the wifi option disabled (since I have it off most of the time anyway). And you can't use wifi calling if it's enabled because it turns wifi off when the screen is off.
sync is at every 30 mins
Night mode from 12am to 6am
I don't use app control, since I didn't want data enabled when I wasn't using my phone
Also, go to the google play store app, and disable automatic updating. I only have it set to update over wifi only. And be sure to disable notifications in any social networking app like facebook.
and use dark wallpapers, since the screen sucks the most juice. Mine are nearly black.
with the jedi kernal, you can use antutu cpu master to underclock and undervolt the phone. I just enabled some minor UV and UC, so we'll see how it does.
I paid for JD a long time ago....before I ever knew about programs like gsam. And when I saw it woke my phone over 200 times in a work day on aggressive mode....I uninstalled it and will never use it again.

Alot of people talk alot of smack about Juice Defender. I decided to go awhile without it and noticed a considerable difference over a week period. I'll never go without it again. It's reliable easy to use and I've got the free version so it's even better. I know it's not for everyone for whatever reason but I work in a building 10+ hours a day and the fact that it turns my data off for me as needed is great..

your experience differs from many, pretty much everyone else lol. but whatever works for u. but I'm almost sure that with proper configuration even with the data left on all day u'd get more juice. that being said I'm not u and I don't use your phone so I agree to disagree
well i never trust third party anti viruses and battery savers - for a belief that they are all gimmicks has somehow been implanted into my mind during the early stages of my xda induction. But following the hype all around regarding jb i have had tried it once but didn't notice any difference - neither did it make things worse nor did it make em better - so i gave it up and now believe that a power user has many stuff at his discretion that he could configure to his liking to make extraction of juice from his pack more or less suitable with respect to his usage patterns
just my 2 cents
why fix it if it ain't broken ?
Juice defender is for noobs who don't know how to turn off sync, GPS, data or wifi.

CPU spy and better battery stats will demonstrate that this app does not cause wake locks or cause you're phone to wake to often. All juice defender is is essentially a toggle for data. And I'm apparently not the only one with a positive experience with this app. I put forth an effort to not use it because I trust most the guys in these forums especially ASD's this was just one area where personal experience out weighed others. It's a free app. Heck, test it yourself. Lol. That's the real best answer for anyone.

Anyone can turn off simple toggles. The handiest thing about JD is that it's automatic and easy to set up. I don't have to turn on and off all these various things all day. Set it and forget it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
yeah, it would drive me crazy turning toggles on and off every single time I touched my phone to look at something. JD automates things and limits how often your phone syncs if you set it up properly.
right now I'm sitting at 18 hours up time with 72% battery left. 37 minutes of voice calls and 14 minutes with the screen on. I don't use my phone much at work because I'm in front of a computer all day, so I typically get better battery life than most people who are out-and-about all day.
I just got this phone 2 weeks ago, and I was getting about 18-24 hours total for each charge.. Now that I've got some things figured out, using my init.d scripts and JD, I'm getting about 48 hrs on a single charge.
after this charge, I'll disable JD and see how the phone does. typically at night, my phone loses less than 1% per hour. so maybe 7%-8% battery loss over 10 hours or so. before JD, it was like 15-20% loss over the same amount of time. I figure that's a pretty good test since the phone isn't being touched at all. But I'll test again, just to be sure it wasn't anything else I installed (since I had been trying different roms and apps a lot).
I haven't installed anything new since the weekend, so the phone should be pretty well settled in by now. Next charge, I'll disable JD and report back.

Here's the thing. I consider myself to be a power user. Maybe I just don't know what some of these other options are. If there's a better way to do it I'm open to more education. I like to learn new things. So let's here it. What else can I use to turn off my mobile data when I turn my screen off to save battery. Something automated and easy to use.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
I can tell u straight up if you're using JD to disable the internal radios and only turn them on once every 30 minutes or so you won't get as much without it to have 48 hours total time off one charge, u must be doing that, or having it switch to airplane mode inbetween certain hours. nI would also think u probably have location awareness on, and switch to WiFi at work.
