Wifi tether not working on Fresh 1.0.1 - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running Fresh 1.0.1 and when i try to run wifi there it just says unable to start tethering. How can I fix this??

By installing netarchy's 3.7.6c kernel. The stock Froyo kernel that is out breaks wifi tether.

Uninstall and in stall the pre4 from here:

May I ask why you are still running Fresh 1.0.1? Fresh 3.1.0.1 is awesome!

No, you don't even need to do that. It's on page one of the thread for Fresh 1.0.1. Yes searching would have revealed that too, but simply reading about what you're about to do before you do it would eliminate the need to even search. The laziness of some people here is astounding.

I have WiFi tether working on Fresh 3.1.0.1. It must be WiFi tether version 2.0.5pre7 though.

If it is would someone be able to walk me through the installation. I am confused as hell!

New evo owner, want one click root and a good kernel.

This is like my 10th android phone however with trying to root this i noticed some techniques have a built in image file or whatever that won't let you install roms? I want to be able to install roms, is there a good one click root option for me? Also what would be the best kernel?

1. Unrevoked
2. No one can tell you what will be a good kernel for your phone
3. Wrong section
They're all good kernels. Some just work better with some phones. It really depends on the phone.

I found its trial and error with different roms also like three previous poster stated depends on phone. Kernels are easy to flash. Just give em a couple days to settle in. its like getting a new puppy. At first it may not look like its going to work out. After a couple days and conditioning things are better lol. Well you'll need to run unrevoked again because z4root only gives you temporary root, and goes away once the phone is rebooted, meaning you'll have to run it again.

Not trying to scare you, just saying from what I heard, you lose root after rebooting after z4root, unless the unrevoked did work. But if its all good, no need to go messing with it.

ok if you just got the phone you probably have the newest hboot. I got my phone in december and i had the newest one at the time. (i dont know if its been updated). i wasnt able to use unrevoked, but maybe that has changed since. If you cant use unrevoked, then there should be a sticky on one of the categories, ( i think android development) that will tell you how to root your phone using SDK, abd, and your PC ( thats the way i did it).
As for kernels, like everyone has been saying, it really depends on how the device accepts the kernel, but I am currently using netarchy toastmod 4.3.1 cfs no havs sbc more universal. I would try using the netarchy toastmods, they seem to treat me the best. Download a few and then give them a try. For hardware version 004, dont use BFS... they will cause reboots constantly...
Enjoy your new phone and welcome to the family.
here is the kernels page i use...

Just plug your phone into your PC and launch the program. The program does all the work until your phone is rooted and nand unlocked. After it's rooted, you can install custom kernel, ROM's, radio's, etc.

Umm no if he was rooted properly. Not boot by bout basis. You are OK. Your S-Off. Just would need to put latest Amon RA recovery named PC36IMG.ZIP in root of sdcard. Then let hboot flash it. Then flash rom like normal. Works that what I did

You can if you did a nandroid backup before flashing. Just restore.

I would say give it a few days. I'm pretty sure someone will have EVO rooting again. Next time I would recommend unrevoked 3/forever.

It is so easy & fast. Root in 5min or less. Still able to unroot later if wanted/needed.

Worth a try, but I would definitely do a google search and have several RUUs on hand to try in case you get an error (i.e. attempting to load software older than original) with the first one.
I can't believe that people are still asking this question. Thread count like 50+ for the same damn question. Face it you screwed up now sit back and wait for someone to bail you out. Next time read then search then search then read

Hi there!
I received one of those download "errors" myself.
From experience, when you click on the link, choose "save file."
If tyou are using a download manager (I do), it will cause a those .html files to download instead of the actual file. I sincerely believe download managers "confuse" the hosting server.
Try the above trick. It may take about 10 minutes so grab some coffee while you wait. =)

[Q] Still without root...

So, I have tried time and time again, and am still no closer to getting my phone rooted. I have spent hours reading all over these forums, and Google in general, and have yet to get a straight answer to my question as to why my phone refuses to root.
I am thankful for the advice offered, such as trying SuperOneClick that does... well, nothing. [Says my device has no drivers, yet,. Windows sees my phone as an Android device, and the program generally locks up after]. Was told that my image is faulty, and yet, somehow it's still installed on the device/working fine. [Was suggested to re-download the CW MOD image, and re-install] And it just goes on and on... then silence from the community.
So, to boil it down to the nitty-gritty, the only thing I am getting is, while I -attempt- to install SuperUser via CW, I get this:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed!
So, please, someone, assist me in getting my phone rooted!

try installing superSU...
Now, super one click ... don't use it, it isn't for our roms.
you should be using Odin to flash CW, and then downloading roms and flashing with CW
If you want support from the community, why not offer more information...
What are you running now ? UCLH ? UCLJ ? Jellybean, Gingerbread, ICS ? How did you obtain the version that is running on your phone now ?
i've discovered the only way to root Gingerbread is to download a pre-rooted rom.
ICS, install CW w/ Odin and then flash supersu or superuser .... There was, at a time, I couldn't get ICS to root and had to download a specific SU or SuperSU not on google store that I found by searching the forums ....
Give us more info, as much and as detailed as possible and we can help you further.

I used the official update from Samsung when it was fully released... finally. So, running 4.0.4.
What's SuperSU? Is that different?
For more details, I posted already to the fourms here before they went silent:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35750419 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35811065
As you can see, I tried everything, it's like my phone's being annoying... is it do-able to just re-set the phone to stock Gingerbread, and then just update using another ROM? And, if so, what one do I use? I just want a stable experience. Like, with the leak that came out not too long before the official, there was the keyboard error, and I even had issues with placing and receiving calls...
At this point, it's getting to the point where I am willing to basicly go back to out-of-the-box, then root the sucker, if I can do that. Seems perhaps a clean slate is in order, anywho.
Thanks for the quick reply, though.

At this point, it's getting to the point where I am willing to basicly go back to out-of-the-box, then root the sucker, if I can do that. Seems perhaps a clean slate is in order, anywho.
Thanks for the quick reply, though.

#1 what version of Odin are you using?
#2 What version of CWM are you using? Where did you download it from ? (Here I hope : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2007198 )
#3 Where did you get SuperSU from?
#4 Are you downloading it with your phone's browser, or are you downloading it to a computer and transferring via USB ? (It's possible you have a bad flash card/RAM in the computer/physical hard drive in computer).
Do NOT use Superoneclick, there is no SOC that will work for our phone.
It has been some time since I have used ICS. I had completed the stock download from samfirmware.com, installed CWM 6 with Odin 1.85 and (taadaa) attached to this thread the same version of Superuser I used to install via CWM.
I stumbled on this randomly.. no usb hubs i guess..
Are you using a USB that is a direct connection to the motherboard? usually that can cause issues, if your not on a connection to the motherboard it won't work..

From my computer, via USB, and not likely at all. Every component is new, and to make it more amusing, I did all this in the past with the leaked ROM before I got this new system on my last compy, so, yeah... if -both- computers does the -exact- same thing... prolly time to format the phone, and try again, somehow?

Guess that's one reason why it doesn't work at all.

And I thank you, however, that, again, is the same link as before, and, thusly, gives the same error.
Thanks for the reply... think it's time to just tell the phone to start all over, try again?

Nah, just a data transfer connection hooked into the hub on the -back- of my computer.

..okes.. I feel like somewhat of an idiot. I decided to just try one last time to get the recovery mod in there again, and, for whatever stupid reason, instead of seeing a blank background with the Android, I saw the CW icon, and a silver icon... I told it to apply SuperUser as I have tried so many other times, and it just... worked.
The closest thing I can figure is that my browser, and my eyes told me that I had multiple copies of the current CW Mod, but, in my working directory, I unzipped the -old- version.
To make it simple; I -now- have root on my Glide, woot!

I didn't realize that CW hadn't installed properly for you ... good to know it's working for you now! ..
