since virgin uses sprints tower would it be possible to use the evo on virgin because im think about buy a used one from a friend and i dont want to sign a 2 year deal
Nope would not work. If you really want a evo and your friend will sell you his then you would not need to sign a two year contract. The two is only required for people who buy a new phone or upgrade there phone and do not wish to pay retail price

the thing is that sprint doesn't a have plan where some one can buy a phone at full price and use it on a month to month deal or do they and i just cant find in on there webpage like with Verizon i bought a droid when they first came out but paid full price but used it mouth to mouth does sprint have somethink like that
Try going to a Sprint Corporate store and asking.
PROTIP: Bestbuy is not Sprint Corporate.
The Evo on metropcs works great for me for the $40 a month price, though you'll have to get the esn added through houdini in a non-official manner so to speak. Search craigslist and there'll be a ton of adds of people who can add the evo to the metropcs network.
so in other words, yes it's possible as the cdma radio hardware is the same,
however some people who are not lawyers think it's illegal to change the ESN
even though you're not stealing any service.
Protip: Sprint bought Virgin last week. They already had 51% share and decided to purchase.
Virgin does not allow flashed phones on their network (sprint). Now you can flash evo to verizon, cricket and metropc and other verizon based providers. Cricket is nice because for 55 you get android plan with everything unlimited and it runs on network that evo was designed for.
Nothing is impossible in our world.
Anyone out there dedicated and financially capable of trying? lol

You had the Virgin Mobile Intercept though, not the Sprint one, right? It doesn't matter that they're technically the same network. They use different databases to check ESN numbers. You'd have to buy an Android phone from them (get the Optimus V, it's cheaper and better than the Intercept) and spoof the ESN of the Evo to match the other phone's. Make sure only one is turned on at a time though or the ESN will be banned, and since they'll have the same ESN neither will work!
Is it illegal? No. You're not scamming anyone. You'd still be paying the same amount of money. Plus, you own the original phone with the ESN you'd be copying, so it's not illegal.
I'm using HTC Evo on Cricket now, and next couple weeks I'll try to make it work on Virgin base on what I did to transfer from Sprint to cricket. Just change the prl ,ip .........I'll see
Google it and I found the prl from the thread called : How to flash a phone to virgin
Good luck everybody .
I think I know what thread you are talking about, does data work on the phone as well as voice?
I've heard of people getting talk and text working but not data, so far with the evo.
Hello, So I have an intercept already and just bought an EVO, how do you spoof the esn of the evo? I really need your help guys! Thanks.
I got the email, but I've never done it.

You can find out what the data settings are on howareforums, in a thread called How To: Flash a phone to virgin mobile, but they won't tell you how to change an esn.
Some people thinks it's illegal to change esn # so we aren't allowed to tell how it's done on most forums.
If you look around online and youtube you can find out.
If you end up getting it working let us know.

Cant they track it?
You could sell it, but that's kinda morally objectionable.
Plus it will be flagged as having a bad ESN, so it won't be able to be activated on Sprint.

Yea But cant you still use it??
the point is you can do what you want but sprint is not going to let it be put on a line. The ESN has been blacklisted so if you want to use it as a music player or whatever you want that does not use phone service or data then yes but as a phone No.
I will buy it for forty dollars!

Once you lose a phone, Sprint places it on a lost/stolen list. If you sell it, the purchaser will not be able to activate it.
Sell on ebay and state has bad esn
I think if you only went through asurion the phone might still work. I had a phone that was lost and I did it through the website and i gave the phone to someone else when i found it and they told me that it activated. So maybe have a friend try and see if it works.

Why even ask a question like that? Once you accepted the condition to file the claim then the phone belongs to the insurance company. The only sense to this question is that you want to know if you will be in any kind trouble.

i thought the same thing too when i lost my phone in the movie theatre after it fell out of my pocket. I filed a claim and got the replacment then i was able to find my lost phone shortly after. i checked the ESN and it was still clean. i was surprised but now i have two evos. You can always call them and check if its still a valid esn.
Because I don't want to cause anyone any undo trouble. I would like to get my deductible back so I will say bad esn on eBay for $100 as another forum member sugested. Thank you for all input into this discussion.

You certainly can activate it still.
I lost my TP2 and got a new one thru insurance and then Sprint called me and told me someone turned in my lost tp2.
I reactivated my original the second I got home. I sold the new TP2. I called Sprint and they told me I was supposed to send the lost one to the insurance but it was up to me. They didn't really care.
Moral wrong..yes... doable .. yes.
if you call ausrion and get a replacement phone they send you another one out but by law or sprint policy (not sure which its to early for me to google it a few sprint employees have told me though) they cant contact sprint and flag it as bad ESN your suppose to do that yourself. So you can activate the old one if you like with 0 issues. Been their and have done it. (on accident found the missing phone like a week or 2 later) sold it to a friend and he is still using it.
There are methods to make a phone work on another carrier if it has a bad ESN on Sprint. Cricket and Metro PCS are the carriers that are most commonly used in the US. I actually bought an Evo on Craigslist a while back for a good price. It wasn't listed as lost/stolen, but it was still tied to a suspended Sprint account. I later sold it on eBay for $360 and listed it with a bad ESN and a bad headphone jack. I think the guy I sold it to was planning on using it in Mexico.
Even without activation, an Evo makes a pretty nice MID on Wifi. Just be warned that most Android devices won't connect to an ad-hoc Wifi network, so it's hard to tether it to another phone.
You could sell it for more than $100. Can't you hack it to work with VZW PRL? Maybe that'll sell for more.
Technically you could sell it to someone on metro pcs or cricket.. they dont care about esn's being blacklisted they'll activate it anyway.

Oh God the moral police is here. Its a very valid question. I would do the same damn thing this Guy is doing. Just think of it as a way to recover that 10 dollars extra a month we are ALL getting hosed for every month.
Sent on my cursed EVO
The "moral" thing to do is call the insurance company, explain that you found your old phone and you would like to return the phone and get your deductible returned as well.
I would think they would go for it as they make out in the end.
And you can sleep at night knowing they won't catch on to you some day and deactivate your phone. (highly doubt that could ever happen, but I tend to have a really guilty conscience. what's a $100 anyway.....)
Im going to sell my epic 4g on ebay because im going to australia for 6 months and it will not work there and i need the money. If i transfer my phone number back to one of my old phones on sprints website, will my epic have a clean ESN and be able to be activated by whoever buys it on ebay? I dont want any problems when the buyer tries to activate it because i know no one wants a phone with a bad esn.
thanks
Yep. Just make sure when you talk to the CSR that you ask them to verify that the ESN is clear.
Jared
Yes. If your account is still active, I would activate your old phone and make a call on it to make sure the rep did it right. Sometimes the rep will do the swap and forget to save the work at the end.

You can have them print what is called an MSN Lookup. with show the device is deactivated and my on the lost/stolen database. its even handy to put it in the auction that you have proof that it is clean and send the paper with it.
Alright, so due to Sprint's new policy of premiere customers I won't be able to upgrade this june like I normally would(for 1 year upgrdae)
So i decided to buy a clean ESN HTC EVO Shift 4G via eBay.
My plan was to, buy the evo shift, which I did, and sell my evo on ebay.
but now, maybe I'm just paranoid... but will I be able to activate the Shift when I get it in the mail?
How does that work with sprint? would they not let me? hellpp??

Not only will sprint let you, they'll even help you. Of course. Why wouldn't they?
You can call them and tell them you bought a Shift and you want to activate it and they'll help you out no trouble at all.
I bought out the remainder of my contract to receive full upgrade early. For me 6 months remaining cost $65 to save $250 on new evo.
Cancel Sprint Contract
So if I cancel my sprint contract and pay the final bill succesfully, including the cancellation charges, I will be able to sell my EVO as having a 'clean' ESN?
The only way you get a bad esn is if you don't pay your bills, and sprint has to shut off your account themselves, or if you report it stolen..if you switch phones through contract, you won't get a bad esn.
Thx for the info. That's what I thought but wanted to make sure I didn't misrepresent myself.

Basically I bought a phone from a guy off Craigslist.
I asked for the ESN before purchase.
Called Sprint, was clean+clear and ready for activation on ANY account.
Bought phone.
Sprint says the phone is still tied to an account, and they cannot do anything unless I have his permission.
The guy I bought the phone from, when I was on my way to get it. Texted me and said, call this number when you get there.
So I did.
6-7 hours pass, I call, no answer. I text, says its some 70 year old person and to quit texting them.
I have his E-Mail, phone numbers all that in the settings>status
Cops won't do a damn thing. I'm just in the air.
I could be that guy and re-sell it to someone who was as stupid as me.

Listen.
I have a Sprint S3 which I am using and is active.
I wanted to buy a Note 2, I found a guy to sell me one.
I asked him for the ESN before I went to buy it. Called Sprint, was clean and ready to be activated.
Met up and bought the Note 2 for Sprint.
Sprint now says they cannot do anything to the phone unless the owner gives them permission too.
Guess I'm just screwed for using this on the Sprint network.
Cricket said $75 to flash, and 60 a mo for service.
Or, I could be that guy & re-sell it on CL and screw someone else over.
Then just go buy a new one.
You could be honest and resell, someone might want it for cricket. There's no need to pass along any BS.
Yeah its your mistake. You should have gone to a sprint store or at least called sprint on the spot to activate it before you pay.

Cricket dont sell GS3's so people with cricket love that phone and will pay $$$ to have it work on their network

I was looking to buy a sprint galaxy note 2 with a bad esn. I was told that it can be reflashed to work on boost mobile. The phone is apparently still sealed in the box. This is the response I got when I asked how the phone could have a bad esn if its still sealed in the box. "Hey Jason the esn is bad because I got these through upgrades. I tried to cancel my contract after but they refused to let me without paying the termination fee. If you're interested let me know be cause I have 2 people in the city that wants it and I'm just too lazy to travel." Im wondering whether this is legit or whether I should stay away? If it is a good price, then buy it, the esn does not matter cause it is in the sprint data base as being bad and you are not going to activate on sprint.
Anyway the sprint bad esn is going to change via a "donor" which you need when going to boost so again that takes care of the bad esn issue.

go incognito, cause mostly all flashing docs are based on the xfering files from the incognitio.....just remember you will only have 3g, as you know the N2 does not have 4g wimax and there is still no hack as of yet to piggy back on sprint LTE network.
there are cheap incog phones on ebay, also you can just buy the files needed (NV and ESN) I think like $30 which is also all you need if you dont a phone.
Any help you can give in terms of either of those options is appreciated. I simply figured its an easy way to make a few extra bucks. Nothing major just $30 or $40. Where do I find these files? And in terms of buying a phone, I saw a 3g boost phone for $20 on ebay. That would be sufficient?

well the simple way out, when I put my GF on boost was just having CDMA workshop, I bought version (3.9):
I bought the (nv and esn) files from ebay, loaded them up to a S3 called up Boost activated a new account since she was new to Boost. They had me dial ##msl# then enter the phone numbers in the proper places, reboot and that was it. It was up and working, also make sure you change the mmsc to http://mm.myboostmobile.com so that your mms will work.
What do I search for to find these files on ebay? Does it even make sense for me to do this? Is there $ to be made buying phones w a bad esn and flashing them to boost mobile?

I dont know if buying files and phone and flashing then selling might make $$$$$$$. Example note 2 bad esn +/- 450 after if you were going to just do N2 you would need to sell for about 500 to 600 if you want to make a little something....and that is a lot of $$$ even I would pass. Now if a person brought over a N2 or any sprint phone and you put it on boost for about 100...... ten phones 1k easy money and that can be a day or a week...still good $$$, even if it is a side job. Of course - $$$$ for buying the files I think still pretty good.

sure you can, it is really not that hard like Evil stated, non boost phones that come from sprint are worth it and people will bite, now that the S2 is on Boost it is not that much of a high demand...people want S3 and Note2 on boost...even EVO's...etc.
Fak! Not worth it. 420? You can buy a xbox360. I would be at the most is 150 $.

if you are going to do it as a side job, then it would be worth buying CDMA Workshop(3.9) that is all the software you need. It also helps the dev a lot which is always good and you get free upgrades etc......
1. buy the files
2. load them up to the phone
3. call boost activate
4. change the mmsc
that is it.....pretty simple.
