I was about to install the FroYo update, but unfortunately it failed, so i tried to format everything from something called "ClockworkMod Recovery" (i'm an android newb). Now i can't boot up in android, the only thing i see is the bootloader startupscreen (idk what's it called).
Hope you can help
Thanks in advance
so you can not boot into recovery or fastboot?
if so, try running unvrevoked 3, it should flash you a new recovery where you can install froyo
if that doesnt work, just download a RUU from the sticky in the development section to get your bootloader back
use unrevoked to root it quickly
go into clockwork mod, just wipe data + cache and install official froyo + radio

I can boot into recovery. But where can i download the froyo update?
can you please give more info, i take it you used unrevoked to root
you dont need to download the RUU then
just download any working ROM from the development section and flash that.
this will get your phone working again
or you can download from the dev section here any of the official froyo roms and flash it via clockworkmod

I've flashed the oxygen 0.2.2 ROM on my Desire and have ROm manager recovery installed. I want to go back to stock recovery and ROM. I've downloaded stock RUU but when I try to install it, it errors about bootloader verification failed. What should I do? Thank you in advance.
Which RUU did you download and which were you on when you first got the phone?
I've downloaded this RUU:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe
I don't remember on which I was when I got the phone, because it did the automatical upgrade the first day I turned it on. I just know that it was on Android 2.1. Should I try with the latest available stock RUU?
You could try getting 2.29.405.2 but you need to make a note of the exact error as there might be a chance you're on a branded handset.
This is why I stress to make a note of the ROM on your phone out the box before doing anything. I wish people would add it to rooting threads as it would make life a lot easier
I don't think that it is branded. Downloading the newest RUU. i'll post after I try it.
Ok. the newest one passed. Thank you for your help. Did this install the stock recovery as well?
Try it and find out
(Yes, an RUU puts EVERYTHING back to stock)
Hehehe I've tryed to enter the recovery but all i got was a picture of sign with exclamation mark. What does this mean?

Stock roms don't come with a recovery, you need to pull the batteries out or you can't use your phone. If you wan't a recovery installed use unrevoked3, you can also use a custom recovery (AmonRA) in the unrevoked3 setup. unrevoked3 comes standard with clockworkmod, and that one is not working correctly on my device.
Yes they do, that IS the stock recovery!!!
At the ! just hold volume up and press power and you'll get the stock recovery menu
Ok, thank you. marking this as solved.
Read my last post as MichelN gave you incorrect information...
I just did. Thank you very much, you've been very helpful.
Hey everyone i'm kind of a rookie rooting but i know the basics. I had a rooted evo running cyanogen 6.1.2 with clockworkmod recovery i tried to flash ra recovery but my backups were on clockworkmod so i had to install an early version of MIUI and now rom manager thinks my evo is a incredible and wont go into recovery. Can someone please help?
Sure... just add punctuation and post in the right forum.
If you do this, I promise to help.
Uninstall rom manager and redownload from market.see if that works

Try running this RUU from here and you will be returned to stock and you might loose root in the process. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=800582
Thanks for trying to help guys, but i cant get into any type of recovery. When i try to download the latest clockworkmod recovery it asks me what type of phone I have, but it only gives an htc incredible(CDMA) option. When i do try to boot into recovery I just stay stuck on the evo 4g white screen

+1. This should do the trick, you WILL have to root again.
Thread moved to Q&A.
power button and volume button down puts you in hboot then go into recovery

You will not need to be in recovery for this. Just turn phone on connected to a pc as just charging and run RUU and follow directions. You will need a PC to do this though.
I tried to download the ruu but it said it was out of date. Before I rooted I was running the 3.70 ota. Is there a ruu exe for the 3.70?

Sorry for the double post but depending on which way you root (unrevoked..etc.) If you have the older version of unrevoked you will have to search the dev and hacking thread for the most recent unrevoked do to HBOOT
Hi, running wildfire (buzz), froyo 2.2.1 hboot x....0002.
I have tried following the big messy sticky guide in general forum. I think I have AlphaRev and CWM installed. The HBOOT shows 6.01.0002, S-OFF and I get CMW when I go to recovery. But when I try to test if I have root when I boot into htc sense the test app says no. No superuser or root. Am I missing something? Every single guide I have found here says alpharevx or revoked should give root..
The guide says to RUU from 2.2.1 to 2.1. Is this necessary when I want to install a custom rom?
Any and all help much appreciated.
Unrevoked will root the phone along with installing custom recovery by a nand exploit.
But alpharevx neither roots the phone nor installs custom recovery. It turns off the nand security to make rooting (+ installing custom recovery) easier. So if you made s-off with alpharevx, then you need to root and install custom recovery on your own (which are very easy)..
And you dont need to downgrade with an RUU. Just go with this link..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15226717&postcount=68 .
Also check the complete wildfire index thread from dev section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318 .
Edit: oh.. didn't get you clearly. Looks like you have custom recovery installed. Anyway, you can check the above link for rooting. And to install custom roms, you just need cwm recovery installed. Downgrade from 2.2.1 to 2.1 (using RUU) is not necessary in any case. And to root your stock rom just use superone click root method or gingerbreak.apk or you can also install Su binary (= rooting) from cwm recovery. And you dont need to root a custom Rom because custom roms will be already rooted. Another thing you need to remember is some roms need cwm version 2.x while others need cwm version 3.x or above. You need to shift between recoveries according to that need . On how to do that, check the index thread.

Flash Superuser Binary in Clockworkmod. There's absolutely no need to use any RUU / Unrevoked if you have got Clockworkmod Installed.
Download SU Binary here:
http://bit.ly/su2361ef
Flash, and check for root again. This will give you a rooted Stock ROM.
Alternatively, if you just want to change ROMs , you dont need to be "rooted". Just a Custom Recovery like Clockworkmod will do. So, if that's your ultimate goal, just flash the new ROM. Again, dont touch RUUs/Unrevoked.
Thank you, both for clearing that up. I must say the sticky post is way way over complicated and dead wrong on the process. Since it's a sticky it needs to get cleaned up by someone who knows about it.
It's not a sticky actually. (I assume you are referring to this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035)
I posted my views there but everyone seems happy with that, so whatever suits the individual I guess.
I have posted an overview of the process here (This is a sticky thread, so I kinda hope you are not referring to this one ):

Hi, I have the same problem as micnolmad.
I'm running wildfire:
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.01.1002
I used AlphaRev to get S-OFF, and change from HBOOT 1.01.0002.
I thought it was meant to convert HBOOT to 1.01.0001, but for some reason it's now 6.01.1002. Not sure if this is important? At least the phone's now S-OFF, which should enable rooting?
However, booting into HTC sense, rom manager syays I do not have root!
I have clockwork 3.0.0.6 but when I use it to install cyanogen 7.0.3, the installation says successful, and then freezes on start up.
Any ideas?
Did you perform all the wipes in clockwork (Data, cache,Dalvik Cache) before flashing your new rom, these are important and cause problems if not done!!
Also read this thread, the posts above mention flashing su binary to get root.

Hi guys
I have a desire bravo that i updated to the new gingerbread ruu when it came out.
Sorry but i have a few questions. Im on holiday at the moment and im using my desire wifi hotspot to use the internet at the moment so i really dont want to mess it up.
1) I used the clockwork mod to S-off and install a custom recovery this morning.
I know that the S-Off worked and i manged to install the custom recovery as the superuser app has shown up in my menu and the hboot menu shows S-Off.
First thing i did was to do a back up that i have saved to my computer..
I then moved on to Root the rom and it showed as being complete
When i installed root check from the market i get some problems. The first is : Application superuser has stopped unexpectedly. I have to force close the app to continue. Root check then tells me that "Root Access is not properly configured or was not granted"
Anyone have any ideas about what i did wrong ???
2) if i cant root the rom should i just install a new custom rom. Does anyone know what is the best GB rom with a new sense (not bothered about what one) i should install. Not worried about App to sd yet as i thought if i start small with a stable rom then i can always change to a rom with app to sd built in at a later time once i get used to changing roms
Thanks for your help as i said i really dont want to brick the phone as i will lost internet access and will be stuck till i get home.
Thanks Guys
BTW big thanks to the clockwork guys for all there hard work
When your phone is s-off, you don't have to root it (or rather the os). So if the s-off process finishes (you cannot s-off with a recovery, so I assume you did it with revolutionary), just flash a rom with root access and you're done.
There is no "best rom". It depends on personal preferences. Just try.
yes i used the revolutionary way to s-off and install the recovery files and i have to say it works very very well very easy to understand
Thanks for the info about rooting the rom. I think i understand now
so can i install any rom now as i updated to the offical gingerbread ruu when it came out ?
If so can you recommend a good gingerbread rom with a newish sense on ?

After you run the revolutionary process successful, flash a custom recovery with fastboot (how to use fastboot -> see my sig). I recommend 4ext or rmd. Now boot into recovery, make a full wipe and flash any rom you want (save important first). Just follow the given instructions in the corresponding thread.
For the sense rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
thanks guys. I think im going to give the AceSMod007-Lite (Sense2.1+3.0 GB ) a go as a lot of people recommend it. 1 quick question.
Can i install this rom even though i installed the offical RUU Gingerbread update and s-off'ed using revolutionary??
Thanks Guys
sorry one more question.
I did a backup of my rom via recovery. If i dont like the new Rom can i just restore to my standard rom via retore in recovery mode?
Yes, you can. Just wipe everything and restore. If you cannot to this, a backup would be senseless, don't you think?
Swyped from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
Thank you soooooooo much. I just flashed the rom and eveything is working perfect
my phone now shows that i have :
885 MB on Ext Partition
34.27 MB on /data
3.97 MB on /System
Does that sound right?
Looks fine.

Have a look for a clockworkmod (cwm) download for this model (buzz). Look for version 5.0.2.0 or above as a pc49img.zip download. add it to your sdcard and then reboot to bootloader. Allow it to update. After it is successful take out your sdcard and then reboot into bootloader. Scroll down to recovery and hit power. You should now boot into cwm recovery and be able to flash cm9. Follow the instructions in the cm9 thread for flashing, and remember that controls in cwm and different from when in hboot.

not unless you want your stock rom backup to have root. cm9 is pre rooted and by wiping and removing your stock rom you will have removed any previous rom mods like root. therefore its an extra step thats not needed
to Clarify further most people need to root to flash a custom recovery, but with your current hboot ( which is hacked) you can flash a recovery without root. so you can flash a supersu zip after flashing your custom recovery but its not much use if your just gonna wipe the phone and flash cm9.
