Anyone gotten the official 2.2 update? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im wondering if anyone has gotten the official 2.2 update not from htcs leak or from the forums here but by getting a firmware update on their phone. If so how does it happen? And what should we do if we do not want to apply the update?

Sorry I broke my crystal ball so I can't tell you when. If you don't want to apply an update, click cancel on your phone, it's not exactly rocket science. If you want to prevent your phone from checking for updates, remove, rename, or delete your otacerts file.

is everyone but me on OTA now?

I am still not seeing the OTA update from my stock evo. Just wondering if they are still rolling it out or if everyone but me has access now ;-)

What ROM are you running?
If you're running a 2.2 rom already it might think you are current already
Also, just in case you've missed the other billion times it's been said:
DO NOT UPDATE IF YOU LIKE HAVING ROOT ACCESS TO YOUR PHONE

Then just keep checking, it'll show up eventually.
Try updating your profile, and rebooting wouldn't hurt anything.
Thanks for the ideas. So I guess no one knows if its a gradual roll out or if it's available for everyone yet...
I thought it wasn't coming out till thurs? What did I miss..anyway I won't be updating right now. Waiting for all you impatient people to report the bugs and for things to be updated.
Running rooted 1.47. Happy with it...but want that new PRL and wimax because reception here stinks and can't hold 4g if you step in any direction from where you connected.

T-Mo OTA Question regarding auto-install or download

Just wondering if this OTA will download and apply automatically or if I have to OK it. I have a rooted slide with slidemeroot5 and I don't want to lose root or anything. If someone can answer please let me know, thanks!
Its for the stock ROM so you wouldn't even be able to apply it anyway. If you were stock and rooted it would take the root away. I would say best bet is to wait until a Dev applies the changes to their ROM and then flash that.

To implement the OTA into a ROM, the dev needs the OTA file. If he downloads the OTA and doesn't install it, then pulls it as described in a thread in the Slide General forum, then contacts a dev such as ChiefzReloaded and gives him the OTA file, then proper development can continue.
There is something on the tmo press release that confused me. It says that you will be notified by a free sms msg. Is this how all ota updates have come out? I have never had a stock android at the time of an update (rooted my g1 first day out of the box). If so, then I know how to go about pulling the file down for a dev; and I will when my daughter gets her update (if someone hasnt already beat me to it that is). If this is not the usual way; will pulling the file still be possible?
The press release also mentions something about them not being able to manually update subscribers any sooner than the 19th. Is this just their way of saying dont call us if you havent gotten your update yet? Thats kinda funny if that's all it is, lol.

That's exactly what it means. What else could it possibly mean other than that? I work for T-Mobile and if you were to call asking about the update before then, I'd tell you to call back if you don't get it by the 20th. We literally can't push the OTA.
It could possibly mean that there is no download for it available to public devices. Im just trying to make sure that when my daughters phone updates i will be able to pull the logcat and have a download url

New OTA - but running a different ROM?

Just curious - I think I know the answer... if you are running CMx, SkyRaider, OMFGB or any other ROM what will your phone do when the OTA upgrades start trying to be pushed?
My guess (and it's just a guess) they will all fail as you don't have all the bloatware in place - but will they even try to download/install?
If you've gone on your own way with a different ROM, I assume you don't really want to get the latest... unless you want to see what Verizon/HTC have been up to?

You're talking about the Offical OTAs, right?
Well, you won't get them. You won't even be notified them unless you're on the stock ROM. And to my understanding, it won't update unless you have the stock recovery.
Yes - official.
I thought OTA was Over the Air - which the only way that is happening if it's official? Maybe I am wrong!

[Q] OTA Firmware update unroot?

Sorry if this question has been asked, but I'm curious. Samsung has released 2.3.6, and I'm hoping my issues of LOS, games crashing and charging issues get resolved.
So, I am wondering: If and when update is available and I accept, does it uprooted my phone or brick it?
I'm running Calkulin Rom and Kernel....
???

You received an over the air update notification?

Sent from the future.
Sorry if my post was not clear. I have not received update, I'm assuming our et4g should be coming soon. I've been itching for update to fix problems I'm facing which is major to me.
My question is when the ota update does come, what happens IF I accept?

simple; you lose root, and possibly brick your phone
I was browsing around yesterday and found that it locks you out of being able to get root on the gsm phones. Haven't herd of the cdma update yet. The at&t phone had security issues that et2 did not. Don't chew me out if I'm wrong.
Yes, in most ota plan to lose root.

[Q] Software update installed itself. Is the March root impossible for me?

Software update installed itself. Is the March root impossible for me?
My Note 4 pestered me constantly to update the software, and I kept hitting the home button. Eventually I got tired of it and hit "Update Later" thinking it would stop nagging me every 15 minutes if I hit that button.
Well nope. Instead the phone shut off in the middle of downloading my apps and starting installing the software update.
This pissed me off so much.
Are my chances for root lower in March? Is it possible to downgrade the software?
Thanks!
What version did it install? And who said there would be root in March?

It installed 4.4.4, not sure what else it did. I saw a thread about the root supposedly coming in March.
Lol. Nobody said "root is coming in March."

That was what I read. That's why when the software update installed without my approval I got annoyed. If a root does come, and it's not for my software version due to the OTA update, I'll be screwed out of root. Could I flash back to stock then?

You read it wrong. It's a question not an answer. Do you THINK we will have root by March 1st? As for your question I wouldn't loose any sleep over taking the update. You can flash back to the previous NI1 with Odin if needed. If you are worried about any future OTAs being forced on your phone see this thread or this one and follow the directions to block the OTA.
