Hey all, just wondering if anyone has tried to see if they can root the OTA to Froyo. Not that I need it, but I figure there is bound to be people who do in the coming days (both from their own stupidity, and some from being absolutely new after the update). The PRI doesn't change, so I'm guessing that's got to be at least some good news. I have no idea what it might take to root it, or even what measures were included in the OTA to prevent rooting. Just wondering if anyone is working on it.
Also, does anyone know how we can change our PRI's? I used the Froyo flash without root and still have the old pre-1.40 PRI. Also, does the PRI have anything to do with the market not showing copy protected apps? If it does, then I may actually need root again... LOL. Anyways, just hoping someone is looking in to finding a new root method and perhaps figuring out PRI/market issues.

The OTA is rooted. Search the forums. PRI is tied to the ENG HBOOT, so you are stuck with 1.34 if you want to keep root.

Ditto thats what I think hes referring to as well. Hopefully the method doesn't include downgrading like before and then losing the PRI, but if it does we can get a way of extracting it this time.

If you don't want root, v1.47 OTA has PRI 1.40 in it's HBOOT, same as Froyo release floating around.

As far as the OTA being rooted, no it's is not.If you upgrade OTA you will NOT have root. The rooted froyo roms in the forums all use THE SAME ENG HBOOT, which means you will be stuck with PRI 1.34

My problem is that I already flashed the "unofficial" Froyo update that I got directly from HTC. It didn't update the PRI, and I don't think I can flash a downgraded ROM. I guess I can try, but most likely I'd have to use the RUU and the 1.47 RUU never works for me.

I'm already rooted but would like to go back to full stock so there is no way for me to get my pri back to 140 because others are saying when you unroot it stays at 134

Yeah...even going back to stock you will still have 1.34, unfortunately. You can hex edit it to say 1.40 but that is cosmetic only.

If the Froyo update really did wipe HBOOT, why didn't the PRI change? Maybe it didn't actually do anything to the HBOOT? If that's the case, maybe those who had full root can still gain root through the bootloader. Anyways, someone really needs to find a way to get our PRI upgraded. Its sad that even switching to stock won't fix it.

I just got a new Evo that had the 2nd update pre-installed. Do I have to revert back to the original ROM before attempting to root?
Sorry dude, frankly put your screwed until they figure out a way to undo the lock that HTC put on it.
I did the OTA when I got home without thinking, and BAM, no root for me.

That thread makes the assumption of already being rooted, this person has the 1.47 OTA installed already, so at this point there does not seem to be a way to root it.
Someone posted a tweet from unrevoked in the thread dealing with this, saying the might have something no ETA though. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7042722&postcount=148

Yes I searched for this but got lost...sorry!
So I unrooted my EVO to prepare for the upcoming froyo update. PRI is the 1.3 one...am I just hoping that it upgrades the PRI to 1.4 or should I wait to install froyo until PRI FIX!
A better question is why the f%$^ would you unroot your phone?
this doesnt belong in the dev forum however. Currently there is no known way to fix your PRI. Including updating to froyo at least the version floating around now.
not sure why you would unroot your phone you can already put a root friendly version of froyo on your phone so no need to wait.
Thanks for the input. Not sure why this would not belong here when rooting is the PRI culprit to start with? Anyways I unrooted simply because after experimenting...it is just not for me. I don't feel any further justification is needed. My question was a simple one for a true developer I thought. I guess I will just update the OTA FROYO and cross my fingers?

Hey, I bet this would be better accepted over here:

Unrooted android = iPhone with smaller market and widgets, lol
Some suggestions for asking where your question should go:
- Where did you get the PRI/etc.? Maybe you should post in that thread.
- Since you're using a stock ROM and I'm sure you d/l'd it from somewhere, maybe you should post in that thread
- Your question might be best answered by a developer but it's not "development"
Just my 0.02c.
Seriously omegasun18 why would you unroot your ph, u should know it's only a matter of time when our good old buddies here post a custom rom base on the official update. You could simply wait for a rooted release to be given here. It will be the same rom, only you won't possibly be perma-****ed. You could give it a try, see if it updates the PRI, and if it doesn't then you could install the official OTA. Just realize, you could easily be closing the door to root forever and you have no way of knowing.

OTA v1.47 included PRI 1.40, as does OTA froyo. The newly released froyo does not update PRI beyond 1.40 which was included before in OTA 1.47.

If you are root you will have PRI 1.34. PERIOD. PRI is tied to HBOOT, and the only rooted HBOOT we have is the ENG HBOOT with PRI 1.34. I've you still have a hardon to change your PRI, the only way it's going to happen is if you are NOT ROOT.
As far as I know I am not rooted...HBOOT 0.79.0000...and connectbot denies adb permissions etc. The only change from stock is that PRI 1.3 which has my data transfer all whacked up...and very inconsistent. Some say the PRI has little weight in the Android scheme of things but on my end it does in a big way...
If infact you have to have 1.3 to root then I guess I am only left with taking my chance that the OTA updates the PRI to 1.4. I live in the area where hurricane Katrina busted us up and this may have a direct impact on why my particular setup runs better with the newer PRI.

This is incorrect. No update includes any PRI except for the eng-HBOOT. And the PRI included with it is 1.34. Check your facts, because someone follow you blindly.

Wrong again. Once you root using the eng-HBOOT you will have PRI 1.34, whether or not you are rooted. Sprint has not released the 1.40 PRI yet, and know one knows when they will. I pretty sure if the new 2.2 froyo update included PRI 1.40, everyone experiencing issues with PRI 1.34 would have found their solution.
So to sum it up. Once you have 1.34 you are stuck with 1.34, unless you return your phone or a dev gets someone in sprint to release the 1.40 PRI.

I had the same issue with 1.34, many on this forum and other forums have the same issue that you are reporting, but those that do not have the issue say that there is none. I would take back the phone, and since you will have 1.47 software when you get your new phone, only do unrevoked3 method or keep it stock.
When I had PRI 1.34 my speeds and connectivity was horrible 20Kbps to 90Kbps was on a good day. With my new phone and PRI 1.40 my speeds and connectivity are phenomenal with .96Mbps to 1.4Mbps on a bad day.

I'm at a loss, as I remember reading it but can't find it any where to verify. When Sprint releases 2.2 Aug 3rd, since I'm rooted I should NOT accept OTA or force it to update...or ever do it, right?
Sorry for the dumb question, just wanted to make sure!
You should not.
thanks for the quick reply!
hi im using unrevoked3, how do i go about updating to froyo 2.2 when it comes out OTA? thanks!!
you dont until someone here roots it.
And go ahead and get off unrevoked now. Do a full root and use a rooted rom even if its a stock rom. You will be happier in the end. There are several methods posted in the Dev forum. Just pick one that matches the sweet version your currently running or follow the instructions posted previously in this forum.
Actually, I don't recommend full root if you can get by without it. Full root permanently screws up your PRI, even after unrooting. Until its fixed, people should only do it if they absolutely need it. You can use an ota update, but you will lose root until someone finds a way to root 2.2. Also, you can flash one of the stock 2.2 roms that are rooted. They should work with unrevoked.

It doesn't screw up your PRI, it just makes it a lower version. For some people this causes lower speeds on 3G; others are fine. But yes, once you do NAND unlock your PRI is stuck like that until someone figures out a way to update it.
I think flashing a 2.2 ROM with unrevoked and expecting it to stay rooted is a risky thing to do. I wouldn't recommend it personally. That is, unless someone has tried it and it works.
ok, i thought the 1.47 OTA would download to my sdcard...it didn't. Not without root. Whatever is trying to run is almost certainly on /system, which is not writable without root access. Just let it go and root after that.
Also, NEVER PULL THE BATTERY WHILE THE SYSTEM IS FLASHING! That's a real good way to end up with a half-written (bricked) ROM.
Just let it update to 1.47 and then use Simple Root or whitslacks method to gain root again. Then flash back to 1.32 if you so desire. As mentioned before, do not allow it to update to 2.2 as there is not yet a method to gain root for the OTA 2.2.
Furthermore, check the dev forum for the PRI issue. They need someone with an unrooted OTA 1.47 with a PRI 1.40_003. You could be everyone's hero.

It probably tried to flash, found nothing there, and removed the instructions from the boot process. So you may have gotten away with it. Check your software version in Settings - About Phone to see where you ended up. Also, is your SD card still out of the phone? It may be waiting to spring back on you when you put it back in, but just let it go anyway if that's the case.

I don't think you can, that's why there's a bounty out for it. When you root, your PRI will change to 1.34 because you have to use the engineering ROMs. Correct me if I'm wrong.
You don't want to just upgrade to 2.2 OTA . . . unless you WANT to block root until somebody finds a way to root Froyo on the Evo.
PRI aside, you should probably root from 1.32, no reason to go up through 1.47 and you'll avoid the "Main Version is Older" problem.

***EDIT: Here are the steps he took:
1) Started w/ Unrevoked 1
2) OTA'd 1.47
3) Unrevoked 3 from 1.47 (then was able to flash froyo rooted roms
4) He still doesn't have nand access, but he flashed the following roms: Fresh (most recent), Burnt Droid, the odexed Stock "FINAL" by netarchy, and DamageControl. Burnt droid didn't take, but neither did DamageControl at first, but now works fine. His recovery is ClockworkMod.
Hi everyone,
I know starting a new thread for an overused question is annoying but I really can't seem to find a confirming post.
My evo is rooted and the pri is 1.3. If I install the Stock RUU from sprint and then use the official updated version of android 2.2, would it update the pri to 1.4? I know I would lose root, maybe forever.
No it won't, their is no way currently to update the pri. All of the phones since release day came with the 1.40 pri, it has never been included in an OTA update or RUU. In other words, a pri update does not exist.
ahh thanks! Then can I ask, How did we get 1.34?

PRI 1.34_003 came as a result of rooting and installing the engineering bootloader.
