I understand there are now some apps which allow you to watch digital TV via android. I wondered if you could recommend any and where to find them.
I had heard that one called TV.Center was quite good although I can't find it on AppBrain nor on Market.
Search on tv.centerr on Market although it needs flash, so i think the app is dependent upon Android 2.2
UK mobile telly
m.tvcatchup.com gives most UK Freeview channels, probably the best of anything out there at mo.
If you're running Froyo then you can also use the main site - www.tvcatchup.com and use the Flash feeds.
Note, UK only, no VPN trickery accepted either!

Ashame I no longer live in the UK... any other recommended TV watching apps that are not geo-ip locked and ideally don't rely upon ADOBE Flash so that they will work on 2.1 ?
hey guys
thanks for your interest in TV.Centerr (tv.centerr.com)
Facts:
- Yes, it requires Flash 10.1 and Android 2.2
- It is only available in the Swiss (Switzerland) Market, because I haven't found something similar for other countries.
If you urgently need to watch TV, take a look at zattoo.com maybe this works in your country.
Try www. Yamgo. mobi
Work's very well but not sure if it's uk only

Just gone to www.tvcatchup/mobile and its quality for watching live uk TV. Yamgo is also good for viewing but doesn't have the content if TV catchup

Move to a country that doesn't persecute the people for wanting to access information?
The HD2 is not only a more feature-complete port (they have camera, bt, etc working) but the phone is MUCH more powerful. Not really a fair comparison.
If you want a VPN that badly, figure out how the HD2 guys got it working and port it to our lowly MSM devices. I'm sure other Chinese nationals will appreciate your efforts!
Good suggestions, I'll consider later

don't worry so much, as is confirmed, china will launch the white-list system at this end of the year, only the sites they need us to visit will be available. everyone should be registered in the government if they want internet access. at that time, we cannot even visit xda. so the general vpn won't work anymore

I use it. Well, *used* it. It's not perfect, but I love using it. I just emailed the BBC and I hope others can too because without people requesting stuff, the BBC can be as slow as a very slow thing in quick sand.

isn't this a Flash problem rather than an Auntie Beeb one?
There are quite a few apps which are waiting on adobe to pull their finger out.
I'll have a moan at the bbc anyway see if it helps grease the wheels a bit.

That's exactly what I was thinking, I'm sure it needs flash to run
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
D'oh. You're both right! I was thinking the app didn't need it but the mobile version of the iPlayer did. The app does indeed need flash.
Ok, on to Adobe to hurry up!
EDIT: Though thinking about it some more, they will need to do a Flash-free version anyway. iOS has an iPlayer. So we still need to give them a friendly nudge not to wait on the final big Flash release.
Had a reply back from Auntie Beeb, she says that Adobe need to authorise the device for Flash then the app will work. So as we thought, flash problem.
Getting flash will release a lot of apps, I am guessing.

BTW... this is exactly what they said....
Hello,
Thanks for your feedback.
Until Adobe support Flash on ICS, we can't update the apps to work on
these device as our playback relies on Flash. Even if we enabled the
apps for ICS, a user would need Flash to make them work and Adobe blocks
Flash on the market for these devices.
Regards,
BBC Mobile
Just check my mail. I got exactly the same response. Word for word. I think the Flash is used for DRM stuff which may, may, be why Android gets live streaming content and iOS doesn't.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Since flash is being abandon (Apple, and now android), BBC must have got something else in the pipe line - perhaps html5?
Does anyone have an iplayer apk that we can try, now that Flash is running on ICS?
As you can now get iplayer for the iphone as well which of course does not use flash then hopefully we will get a version which will use other codecs so that flash is no longer needed to use the app.

I've tried the apk with Flash installed and it still doesn't work. I can view iPlayer through the browser as long as I request the desktop site.

Thanks for contacting the BBC iPlayer Support Team.
I understand you're enquiring about when the BBC iPlayer App will be available for Android Galaxy Nexus mobile phone device.
The BBC want to bring BBC iPlayer to as many audiences as possible, across a range of devices.
However, we don't have any information about this at this time, I would advise you to get in contact with the manufacturers directly.
I hope this helps and thanks again for taking the time to contact us.
Kind Regards

Hi.
I am based overseas and I know there are restrictions placed on video streaming outside of US. If there are some ways to bypass this restriction, please share .... thanks
Not sure, but I'd say VPN, but it's more trouble and costly than it's worth. And I always feel like the VPN servers are snooping at what I'm doing. :-D
I live in Japan and Unblock-us works great for me, we watch netflix, amazon videos, etc, very easy to set up and it works perfectly on Kindle fire.

Register on unblock-us for a one week trial, change your DNS with the ones provided and then, if you thinks it's worth it, pay for an annual subscribtion ( as I did ). And honestly is worth every single cent, since I can also stream HD videos on my PS3 ( using the Netflix app ) with no glitches or interruptions.

Hi! Like Stocaprimo said, you can try the service for free first, just go to their website, unblock-us. I tried for maybe 15 minutes just to see if it really worked and was very happy with it, I could watch Netflix on apple tv for the first time and on kindle fire too and it's only five dollars a month, I changed the DNS on my router (netgear)with the one they provided and now all the computers and tablets plus iPads work great, it's like we were back in the US. Hope it works for you.

I was facing similar problem as I am a big fan of US netflix but when I moved to sweden, was missing it. Then I tried various options to get access and thank God an expert suggested me unotelly. It is a DNS service, now I can get access to netflix, hulu and rest of the popular US channels without any glitch. try their free 7 days version and you will love it for sure. If you need any help, just let me know I will assist you to install it.
I had a search around but nothing comes up in the OZ market.

The wildfire s doesn't have a IrDA port, which is needed to emulate the infrared led that tv remotes use. Unless your tv/remote utilises other communication methods like bluetooth or wifi I don't see how this is possible.

Hi guys -
I am switching back and forth between my old Nexus TV and Fire TV because ZDF or ARD apps aren't available in the Amazon US region.
The stuff that comes up when googling is fake, not for Amazon devices and requires Google Play services.
If anyone could make the APKs available I'd be most grateful.
Thanks!
Might be pointless. I could imagine there is a regio block...just my two cents..
Try a vpn that simulates Germany as your location.. It's worth a try..

Wow, You're the best rainman!
So ZDF (most important...) seems to work just fine.
ARD aborts with an error "You don't own this app", which kind of sucks, but oh well... I guess I'm going to watch more Heute than Tagesschau
Region-lock - The apps and programming is available in the Google App store and runs just fine on the Nexus Player (or in web browsers). It looks all good besides some Amazon nonsense enforcing ownership of the free ARD app. Does anyone know an easy hack-around? No big deal if not...
Cheers!
Perhaps you could simply buy this app via German-VPN-Server, e.g. Frankfurt ?

Yeah, already tried VPN. It depends on where the amazon account is registered and all hell broke lose when I switched to D.
Anyway, just found a solution.... Amazon seem to have released the Silk browser for Fire TV and I am now simply using the web site. Works great.
