How to block the 2.2 OTA? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I searched these forums and have heard others pose the question, but I have yet to hear a clear cut answer. The forum activity has been in a frenzied state lately so forgive me if I missed it.
Is there a way to block the 2.2 OTA? Does it install automatically? Like many, I'm rooted and running CM6 and loving it and would like to keep my phone just how it is. Hopefully I can just decline the update and not be nagged by it going forward.

The phone won't install any OTA without your permission, even full stock.
With CM6, you'll probably never get prompted because I think Cyanogen removes the OTA capability to keep this from happening.

I sure hope so, that would be best case scenario. Thanks for the reply.

No, its true, you can't even update your prl and profile with CM6, you have to flash a different rom and then nandroid back.
The only issue i have is the temptation lol.. but i'm sure it'll only be a few days before a CM6 or other ROMs are based off the official release.

South Florida sucks. Everyone else.... thanks for the feedback.

No need to, most of the Roms will not allow you to get the OTA update, and in the event you see that update you will have an option to install or not, so you are good.. no worries...

my brother has the nexus one, and let me tell you it is awesome, i have tried a whole bunch of ROM's out there and they are all cool but dont really compare to froyo 2.2. my question is, when will there be a 2.2 froyo root for the EVO?

OTA yes or no..........?

ok just a simple question.......Can we apply the OTA update from HTC or not?
I am not ready to root yet but also do not want the ability taken away, I know that people are reporting that the unrevoked method still works but is this really where the rooting method is going to stay since it seems to me its really not complete yet.
I could be missing something so please let me know what you think as coming from the Hero I am a bit confused
wow, not 1 opinion.........this is weird for this forum
There is already answers in this very forum page, you didn't even looked once before posting the question. Yes, you can do the OTA Update.

man oh man, I post a question in Q&A, and this guy wants to talk trash on his second post since 09' you are truly an asset to this community
If you do update you are going to want to get ready to install atk to kill the calendar app. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695515
I did not use the phone pre update so I have to say the update is actually good beyond the calendar issue. The other sprint bloatware that people are saying are running and draining battery aren't running on their own in the ota.

I would think that a member with your number of posts would know to do so without being asked.
No problem with the Calendar here and I updated, it is something else that is causing the problem. Are you guys that are having that problem rooted?

Should I do the coming update?

I've rooted the toast method and am gonna flash the DamageControl 3.2 rom. Will the update affect any of this?

jesus christ really? ... you really asking this? wow man how did you root your phone without at least reading once out of the many many times that toast has said DO NOT run official updates....wait for the dev community to incorporate any updates....will it break root? maybe maybe not, will it stop you from being able to root? maybe, maybe not... you can do whatever you want with your phone...also we have a search function on these forums...well there may be hope for you yet, at least you posted in the right forum section.....
Taking official updates is risky...it's usually only a day or two behind that the devs of other ROMs (DC included) incorporate the fixes from the official fix into their ROMs in a manner that is safe for use (safe from losing root, etc).
Someone woke up on the wrong side of his mother's bed this morning!
Leave the kid Alone man .. no.matter how many times you read it it still.gives apiece of mind asking it as a direct question.

Just rooted the Evo for the first time, running CM7

I just rooted my evo, and I'm loving CM7. I do have some questions, tho. I keep reading about a sense gps fix and updating prl to work properly with CM7. My gps works just fine I've used it. What is a prl update anyway? Do I need to do these thins if my phone is already working properly? Any help would be appreciated.
If your gps works, leave it alone. The PRL is the roaming list so you can connect to a tower; you update it on a sense rom because you can't in AOSP.
What to look for...
I too, just recently rooted my Evo and am running CM7.
Running my speed test app, it's reporting slower speeds than before I rooted. Is that common or do I need to update/change something?
Plus, what should I look for to know when it's time to update the radio/wimax?
Update: Was looking at other threads, came across ManD5 which is supposed to help check md5. Am I on the right track?
Update #2: Found what I needed in another thread. Sorry to bug you all...took longer to find what I needed.

Well glad you found your info, and not bugging, but at least you actually looked, unlike a lot of people here. And that comment wasn't directed at either of you.

New firmware update today?

Good thing my battery was dead, it did not take the update.
Anyway my phone is rooted, does anyone know what this update is about and should I let the phone take it.

I did, this is where it got me.
I'm running your rom for a long time, what's this update going to do.
Search, sure, here's an example of the search function.
I search for a word root.
It comes back with 10 links, each one is 1 to 100 pages of replies.
Do you really thing I'm going to spend hours, and hours looking through everyone of them pages for the word ROOT, your out of your Fng mind, when it is so simple for a forum lifer to point someone to the right place.
I'm on other forums and there is one, I will not mention, where it does not matter how many times the question gets asked, people help the person and point them in the right direction.
If your best answer to a question is search, don't say anything at all.
Hold your useless reply.

That's why you don't search "root" lol. Any way, just remove the otacerts from Andy's ROM and don't worry about it. If you take the update, who knows what'll happen. I know it prevented people from s-off'ing their devices. Or rather sending them into bootloops whenever they rebooted using a sense ROM.

[Q] To Root or Not to Root: that is the question ;)

First off I am a very experienced modder but what I really want to know is ?
Being in Canada with a Tmobile model will I even get OTA from a different carrier?
When I use Kies to return to factory can I claim for all intents and purposes that it's a 1:1? Or can files, spyware and odd files find there way into areas like preload, efs or other ?
I don't like the look of stock 4.2.2 and miss my cyanogen mod tools...
But Does bluetooth and speaker phone get messed on the s4 with cyanogen mod and all the dev's roms? like it does with SO many other phones ?
And since I pointed that out is there some other weird anomaly that us rooters need be aware of ?
Please respond quick im getting board with stock and your answers could be my freedom :fingers-crossed:
I wont forget to thank those who can help my tough questions..
Yes you can go back to stock.

Those questions you are referring to which are unanswered are simply yet to be found.
So perhaps it might be a good idea to post a lot of answers instead of so many questions! LOL
Why the heck do they have a Q and A section if people just sit around and tell other people that unanswered questions are a problem :
Wish people would just add info where requested instead of clogging the thread.... GEEZ people simple questions here :
1) IS THERE A BLUETOOTH/SPEAKER PHONE ECHO in MODDED ROMS WITH THE S4 ?
2) will other carriers transmit the OTA upgrades ? Have they in the past ?
3) After root is there a way to insure 1:1 return of all data to EFS, PREBOOT or other areas that would suggest for some unrooted is better...
-----------------------------------
Gotta love the answers so far first response don't ask questions search endlessly, and the second is simply don't submit unanswered questions to Q and A !!!!
HAHA
is there a way to delete sloppy posts ?
I can see your going to get lots of help. LMFAO

Or in your case a lack there of. Don't you have something better to do than fill threads ?
The s4 phones have good compatibility so far. Except once you start getting into 4.3 roms, for now, wifi glitches occur.
As far as who gets which updates, i dont think anyone knows yet since it's only been 6 months there is no reliable history to tell. I'm sure you'll get some update but it's not going to be timely and it's not going be frequent.. at best ~4 times for the life of the phone. I say fly solo.
About returning the phone, the only thing u have to worry about is the "knox counter" which isn't included in most roms.

Thanks for taking me seriously and actually answered questions in the QandA section

Wifi just doesnt work. Some people did somethings to have some functionality... but it's not something you want to mess with
You should stick with 4.2 for a couple more weeks until tmobile releases 4.3, then it will be really solid.
As far as OTA, i dont really know because i dont use them. And your case is so rare that i think you shouldnt count on it. Why do you want ota anyways you can flash a new stock ota freely. Those are prominently available on here.

Is this wifi bug on all 4.3 4.4 roms or are there some working ?
That is a MAJOR glitch BTW I don't think I will Root : which brings me to the second answer I want to stay stock because with no 4.3 (with wifi) what incentive is there to even root ?
Can I use Kies to update without the need of a OTA update once available ?

You have to check for the OTA manually through your settings. If you are on a custom rom or kernel, it won't allow you to update. In that case, you simply Odin back to stock and then go into settings and update. This time the OTA will work.
EDIT: Rooting won't cause problems with your WiFi... It's an inherit ROM bug. Stick with 4.2.2 and just root.

Just root. You can go back to stock and many cm Roms and aokp work perfect. You can always find what's best for you and sounds like you want to root anyways.
4.3 twiz is the only one with WiFi glitch. Aosp is fine....

The latest cm nightlies seem like a good fit.
Additionally, I know people are having luck with wicked roms in Canada
Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Well right now wifi breaks for everyone but 4.3 is coming to us (the usa tmobile customers) in a week, so you will be able to flash it and have working wifi.
Why wouldnt you root? There is no downside even if u dont want to flash roms. You can have root on ur stock rom and do hundreds of new things. Greenify, xposed, wallet, backups, call recording...
