Today the update to Froyo 2.2 was officially announced on engadget.
Al the readers will have the update probably installed by now. So all our wishes came true with Froyo. Did they ?
NO : Read the F%&&#%&%#& thread -> Flaws & Annoyances -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=666332
So When will I get :
A good working POP3 client that marks the read mail correct (Hotmail)
Proxy support
ans soooooooooooooooooooooooooo much more....
I hope Gingerbread will solve all those problems (and bring world peace as well).
So I can't wait for Gingerbread at the moment !
Q2 2011.......
I don't have 2.2 update. So forget gingerbread for now.

If you're waiting for an official HTC Gingerbread update for the Desire, you'd better get used to waiting because, IMO, it will never come.
Regards,
Dave
HTC will of released many flagship handsets by the time ginger comes out, making the desire a thing from the past and prob totaly forgotton about ,by the time ginger comes out there will be 10th times better handsets than the desire

Haha, and all this in Q4 2010
I doubt that HTC will release an official Gingerbread ROM for Desire but I really hope that there will be custom ROMs that are stable for the Desire.
BTW, Gingerbread will have to be available before 21/12/2012 or it will never come

Its a bit early for a gingerbread thread isn't it?!?!? I think it will take at least a couple of months before all the carriers release froyo.
I'd guess at there being a 20% chance that gingerbread will ever officially make the desire - even then we would be talking at least a year!

come on, HTC has definitely polished up it's records. It's the first to receive a device specific FroYo.
If they keep up the good work, we can expect Ginger around 01-01-2011 on our desire, And by then i guess the Desire is still a High end Phone, and will still be sold by many cariers. So i do think they are obligated to go for gingerbread as well.
Not the first, probably simultaneously with the HTC Evo

come on, i said as a manufacturer HTC is delivering Froyo to its devices first.
Forget motorola, samsung, lg and the rest. HTC is first (Besides google nexus)
And the Nexus is HTC, in a way! So HTC is best at OTA updates..
Been seeing posts that HTC will be discontinuing OTAs to Desire after Gingerbread. Now that Gingerbread might be releasing before the 11th this month, is that confirmed?
Personally I am not worried about official ota. We seem to forget that we are open source and we have xda devs to cook a new meal.
So an sdk is released and the devs cook it to work and be compatible. Then we test and play and show off.
Thanks xda

I'd rather they just fix Hotmail EAS for that.
Improved Email does a very good job of synchronizing mail though in its absence.
The only problem I have at the moment is moved mail on the handset doesn't move on the hotmail - but apparently that is an Exchange Active Sync problem not handset...

Remember a few weeks back when I posted the rumour about the HTC Desire HD?
Well it appears that it may have been more than just a rumour.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/07/htc-desire-hd-spotted-in-the-wild-with-evo-like-form-factor-and/
Looks kinda crummy to me. I much prefer my Desire to this one. (If it is the Desire HD).
i want 1 it comes out in the uk they wont let me swap it lyk the iphone
that doesn't look like a aluminium unibody to me, saying that i never thought it would have one anyway, that would just make it far too good looking and competitive lol
I want one too... I prefer bigger screen.
The hardware is basically identical to the Desire. That 1GHz Snapdragon is looking a little long in the tooth at this stage, especially if you're interested in playing games on it (I'm not, but still). If I was going to lock myself into a 12 month phone contract I'd wait for something a bit more future-proof.
Apparently the dual-core Qualcomm cpus started shipping to manufacturers in June. So if you're smart, you'll wait a while longer...
damn, i thought that HTC Desire HD will be better resolution ( like IPhone display, maybe even 720p ), dual core 2x800Mhz and better GPU ( better that then Samsung Captivate ).
My next phone will be dual core for sure. but as i see i have to wait for it a little bit longer .
But it look like HTC desire (well, back look like same color )
The HTC site now has a new model listed, the HTC Aria which looks very similar to this phone..

Where are the hardware keys and the optic trackpad?
Good question .. I'd say nowhere.
Yess.. physical buttons much more desired + 4" screen is also ideal size in my opinion like on Galaxy n SE-X10 rather than 4,3 since it is still a cell-phone, not tablet. You can add wifi-n, native divx support and tv-out (both dlna and wired) to existing Desire features. Then we can mention it really desirable, even -almost- perfect!

Yeah, cant wait the announcement (September 15?).
But, I might not upgrade if it is only 4.3" + internal memory (4GB).
Add the new dual core snapdragon and MUCH BETTER video capture (current 480p and 720p are jokes!), I will buy 2 !!!!
As a HD2 owner I say to you: you will get used to 4.3 inches in a day and you will never want go back. Trust me on this.
looks like its available on oct 1st. amazon had it priced at £415, but took the page down.

Trying the serious take:
It is said [read: rumoured], that Android 3.0 will mostly be about the interface. But one problem is that if you have HTC Sense, it'll be unlikely you will see this native 3.0 interface on your phone. But it should at least bring a lot of new stuff to your Desire. - Of course, it's possible to stop Sense from running, but you won't get exactly what I'm talking about this way.
The jump from a number like 2.1 or 2.2 to 3.0 is a rather big one, so I'm expecting a lot from it.
Also, anyone know of an official confirmation that 'gingerbread' is actually 3.0? Since there are rumours going about saying the next update would be called 'honeycomb'. It'd be too early to know anything about another version of Android if you ask me.
My biggest wish is just that this new interface thing they're working on will add the right amount of polish. That's one little thing I miss of Android, the consistency of applications and stuff - everything is different and there are no apps which share the same smoothness between eachother, but that's also due to how easily people can put something in the Android Market.
I know, if I want consistency and smoothness and the best looking interfaces, I should go for an iPhone. That's my own opinion by the way. It's just that I really like Android phones and the operating system, but dislike how everything looks so different from eachother. (unlike on the iPhone)
Please, Android 3.0, make the wait worthwhile..
Turns out 'Jaffacake' has been leaked and will be in a CM6 nightly soon ;D

Yep, as we've seen from the Froyo roms, as soon as Android 3.0 hits the Nexus there will be ports and when it hits the AOSP it'll be compiled for the Desire. It may not ever be officially released for the Desire by HTC, but we'll get it somehow.
From what I read at Phandroid, Android 3.0 (honeycomb or gingerbread or gingercomb or honeybread etc.) might never make it to the Nexus One or the Desire. Reason being it shall be catered to high end smart phones like the Evo and Droid X.
Plus the revamp of the UI and the need for a bigger display, most likely it won't make it to the Desire. There's also a rumor going around that the Android 3.0 shall have no other UI layered on top so no HTC Sense or Motoblur.
Well it's all still rumors. Let's just wait for Christmas okay?
P.S: I think Winnie the Pooh might love Android 3.0.

And you don't consider a Desire "high end"? Droid X and Evo might have a bigger screen but the resolution is the same as the Desire. The Evo, besides the bigger screen and 4G, isn't more powerful or "high end"-er than the Desire...

The Desire fits nicely above the required hardware specifications
Well who knows if they're 100% accurate... Still the Desires probably one of the best Android phones out there so it'll be possible they wouldn't make it so much more needed than what exists now.
Hi All
I want to generate a poll about you, desire users.
About using my desire after a year I'm planing to change it.
Some of the reasons,
Low internal storage
Mismultitocuh screen
Lower process power than new phones.
You! Desire User! Which one you ll buy?

My choice is SGS2

HTC Sensation/SGS2 - depends on the hands-on test, when I'm tested them both.

And as I search for some touchscreen documents and i saw that Samsung using best Touchscreen hardware. (ATMEL)
And also SAMOLED+ pulling me.

My answer is none of those lol..i'm just not impressed enough by the new dual-core processors, i guess i'll wait for some 2ghz(+) one before i drop my Desire
Something that will have an android 2.4 already. Im going to wait till google i/o next month. We might see some monster phones before the year ends that runs on 2.4.
I will not buy a SGS2 cause i might wait another year just for me to get an upgrade knowing how much crap they put on touchwiz. It will take them forever just to port 2.4 on on sgs2. The same for sensation.
No matter what, I am waiting for 2012 for a new phone for a couple of reasons.
1) I want a brilliant dual core (1.5GHz)
2) My contract doesn't run out till Dec this year anyway.
The Desire is still one of the most powerful phones on the market and getting something like a Nexus S will be defeating the purposes of upgrading. So dual core for me with a pretty good graphics chip. Not bothered about OS version. 2.3 is good enough for me.
I think it's good time to sell my desire, it makes 300$ in Turkey now adays and this is a good number for here. If i wait for some more time , i cant sell it for this number.
I think sensation and sgs2 will take 2.4 easily

Same here. Don't see the point upgrading to another single core.
None of the Poll devices. My next phone will have HW keyboard. But not sure will I get a new device for years. Desire rocks. Been rocking a year next month.
I will possibly get the HTC Sensation, provided it's rootable and "s-offable" not too long after release.
I got the Incredible S but only kept it a couple of weeks because it's too heavily protected (signed bootloader says hello). It was a nice phone though but my Desire can do much more so I went back to it.
Same here. My contract end in 2012 and there is currently no worthy replacement for my Desire with CM7.

Do you have a source for this?
Because I was really looking forward to a GSM version of this. HTC France twitter said something about getting it and france uses GSM.
I do like the look of the Optimus 3D but LG is a bit meh...
and I love HTC sense!
I'm most probably going to buy the HTC Sensation. The only thing I can think of that would make me change my mind would be the battery life. If the phone can't handle over a day of medium to heavy usage, I'm not going to buy it. I complained endlessly when I get my Desire because of it's terrible battery life. Then I found out that good Android phones don't really get much better battery life.
Hmmm...I don't plan to get a new phone this year...but....
I vote for Sensation.
I've had my desire for quite a while now, and i still like it, it is a good phone, but nonetheless it is also getting older.
I've noticed that there seems to be a bigger dev community for desire than other devices.
Wondering what the next favourite is.
I don't think it'll be desire s with it's single core cpu, 5mp camera & 1450 mAh battery.
HTC Amaze or Sensation both seems to be a better choice.
Where does the devs go for next?
I think for me its too early to tell. Desire has a lot of life still. I'm not upgrading until may but there's nothing now for me that blows the desire out of the water. I'm still enjoying my desire. Come may I may even go sim only
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
majority of devs moved over to Sensation.
That is good to know, when you want a new phones, it's nice to know where the majority of devs are.
A fair few dev's seem to have vanished from here I think - but some went to DHD and most went to Sensation as far as I can tell.
I'm not going to be upgrading soon (maybe in 6 months or so I'll reconsider) - so hoping there's a fair bit of life left - we have sense 3.0 ports, sense 3.5 ports - I imagine the next big step is making a full featured, stable 3.5 with no major bugs, and then whatever ICS brings (sense 4.0 perhaps?) - if ICS can be ported over then anything after that might be a stretch I imagine
You think the Desire could handle ICS? Now I'm excited!!
My contract isn't up until May as well but I'll feel sad moving on because it's been such a great device. Just a pity about the low internal memory
It is too early for me to think my next phone. My Desire is still function very well and fulfill my need. But, up to now, I observed that many devs moved to Sensation.
Well if google chooses to release the sourcecode of ics the chances are very good that we can have it running on the desire.
However personally i'm thinking of moving to the new nexus device depending on the specs google release next week. It might take a couple of months or more before we will see it in Denmark.

they already said they would - they got a fair bit of stick for not releasing HC - it wouldn't make sense to back out of it again - although it will probably be a few months after the nexus device is released before the source is available I guess?
I would just love for a new device with a more powerful processor, but still the 3,7" screen.
More than 3,7" is too large. It won't fit in my pocket without me being afraid I might bend it.
I don't know if I should stick with HTC or get a LG or Samsung. They would probably run clean Android with LauncherPro etc. like I do now.
I'm a sucker for things running smooth (iTunes is a dealbreaker, always)
Samsung Galaxy Note
I want a tablet , but I also want a phone , this seams to be the best of both worlds .
However , I wont be bale to buy anything till April next year , so by then the quad core phones will be out!
I am wondering the same... tomorrow I may sell my lovely Desire, and then add some money... but I don't know what to get. I am think about Sensation or Galaxy S II.
What do you guys think? Any third option? Btw, HTC Sense is a plus to me, I like it.
I didn't see this post before i added my own. Should've searched really. I don't think there is anything out at the moment that is taking my fancy. I didn't understand the release of the desire s or the need for HTC to release so many phones in such a short space of time.

Hello there.
I've waited few months to retire my old HTC Desire and purchase a new device, for few weeks ago I've been waiting the release of the HTC one X but now I've been reading some topics about issues and problems that the owners are suffering...
So here is my question to the One X owners, would you recommend the device to your best friend?
Thanks

I would not as I want to be only one with this gem of a phone in my circle
Plus they're all apple fanboys anyway.

Read back to the comments on DHD forums when that came out. Same with the Sensation. They both had teething issues for some users, and I don't regret getting either. There will always be people with problems, and they will be the most vocal.

OI! Thats my phone, get yourself something else!!!
I recommend iPhones to most people only because most people I know just want something easy to use. Not that Android is easy, but Apple is easier and they can just take it into an Apple Store if something doesn't work. The support system is much better.
HOWEVER, the One X is a much better phone than anything else on the market!
short answer: yes
long answer: alot of yes
The choice is yours I've gone from dhd to the one x don't think I would look back either
Screen crisp clear
Build fantastic
Use smooth and quick
Really light weight
Yes there is reports of minor issues on some of them but its nothing major and will be fixed the only I have is battery life mine dies faster that my gf she got 18 hours out of first charge the difference is I'm a heavy user she isn't
The rest of reported issues I've not had

I guess U should. Since U are coming from desire.
But for me, the reason I got one was initially because of the "big" screen. Am using a titan currently and absolutely love the screen minus the lower pixel count. When I got One x, I was quite disappointed actually. I dun quite like the material used and the "bigger" screen. Its the screen ratio that actually turned me off.. The screen is taller but not really much wider than my trusty hd2. So, the "bigger screen is not what I had expected. Speed wise, blazing fast compared to my hd2. But, do I really need blazing? I guess not.. I can bare with a few millisec of waiting time. So, I am kinda disappointed tbh. IMHO.
Anyone had THE argument yet?
oops
Yes, but wait for the battery saving update coming and for some cases in the shops. My camera feels way to exposed to scratches so have ordered a clear back case which is 10 days away. Screen is amazing compared it to s2 and iPhone 4s and they don't even come close.
I came from HTC desire.

Don't you dare buying it! It's mine, my precious <3.
#Smeagol off
I'd recommend it, but if you are the kind of user who wants a flawless experience from the start = wait 2 weeks so all the bugs are updated.
My first few hours coming from a DHD I was sceptical because I was so used to the DHD and the Virtuous affinity ROM is amazingly smooth.
After 1 day I am completely loving the one x.
It's holding battery much better than my DHD with the same accounts syncing too.
The camera and screen are actually stunning, not just a turn of phrase. I was jaw dropped streaming HD and filming 1080p.
I actually prefer using my one x with headphones for media than my laptop and TV put together now
I recommend it.

Honestly, no. Not yet.
I would wait to see what HTC do to address the awful battery life and overheating before buying.
If the reviews would have been more realistic, I would have been in a better position to judge.
Feel let down by the main reviewers, but then they did have an update that us mere peasants aren't allowed. Sketchy move from HTC if you ask me, the phone we get is not what was reviewed. Foul.

I can't help wondering why they chose to release an update that fixes a lot ONLY to the press... It makes no sense to me?

Clearly they weren't sure about it's stability/hadn't bug-tested it enough to release to all of their customers.
Should be out soon though

Because they needed to get it to them before the reviews were published, so that they'd reflect what HTC intended the user experience to be like before the handset was released to the public later that week.
Sensible though that strategy is, it sort of comes undone when you don't push that update to the retail handsets in time for them going on general sale. I imagine it was because the 1.27 update was a quick hack to fix the major outstanding issues that would be likely to turn up in reviews, whereas 1.28 would need to be fully tested before being delivered (because having effectively supplied a handset with pre-release software there'd be hell on if the first update didn't work perfectly), but it could still have been handled better.
YESS u should..but to each his own...
For the screen size remarks....
I`m coming from the DHD and the Sensation XE.
And i`m loving the new bigger screen.
The colors,..The sharpness it`s just a marvel
But again what works for one doesn`t have to work for all.
About the speed.....
Just lightning
CF Benchmark
23839, 6010 , 13050
Antutu
11524
Monjori
38 FPS
Nenamark 2
48 FPS
So the CPU goes like a bat out of hell
The GPU at the moment is the same as my Sensation XE ( adreno 220 @ 320Mhz )
Batterylife looks to be OK.
But when u stress it it takes a lot of juice.
The companion core works perfectly cause the standyby hours are super
