Hello everyone. It seems that I can't see any other thread with this topic in my searches so I'm starting a new one.
FlipFonts are built-in to our Samsung Galaxy S's and they're quite nice. What are your thoughts on them, and do you have a favourite one?
My favourites are Dave Gibbons and Soho Gothic. I wish there were free fonts, or better yet, a way to use OpenType/TrueType fonts.
UPDATE /// Create Your Own Flipfonts!

I present you with two threads. The first is my How-To thread with everything you need to start making FlipFonts. First time will probably take you about 20 minutes, After you get use to the steps you can make one in 5 minutes.

The next thread is the Vibrants Master List of user created FlipFonts. All that I ask is that you post your flipfonts in this thread so that they are all located in one location. We have been trying to keep the fonts in the first few posts with links that allow for download in the XDA tapatalk app.

Thanks a bunch to Ritalin for this. Hopefully a lot of people will join in making more FlipFonts available.

agree, i've been pondering about that as well, there should be a way to convert/import regular TrueType fonts into our phones
I've seen other fonts being and installed by users, but am I right in thinking that you need your phone rooted to be able to use them properly?
Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735148 u have to be rooted, but its working with truetype fonts.

the official route is to buy them from Market then
Settings => Display => Font Style
I do like the Helvetica Nueue and Frutiger but none of the flipfonts I've tried seem to include a bold weighting (important for me when seeing what email is unread, also the time in status panel should be bold etc).
Droid Sans (the default) is pretty cool though anyway.

It's a pity no one's figured out how to package them in an apk for installation by non-root users. All good stuff though.
My favorites are Helvetica Neue and Soho Gotic (my #1 favorite), though some applications look a bit ugly when using other fonts than Droid Sans.

Are you guys serious... I created a method for making your own FlipFonts and posted it in every Galaxy S variant forum on XDA, Im a Vibrant user. Hell my howto was even posted on AdroidSpin last week.
This method does NOT need root and works just like the fonts in the market.

Dude, I'd give you 3 stars and a pint of your favourite drink for sharing this with us.
--- EDIT ---
Already created my first FlipFont! I'll be posting it in that thread. Off to create screenshots now. It didn't come out as good as I wanted, it looks a bit too small, but hey.
No problems... I'm glad so many people have found the how to useful.
If you want to check your font size before making the apk double click on any of the capital letter glyphs after you do the paste special. This will open up the edit window for that glyph. You should see the original guides for android fonts listed there. Use the cap height and other to see if the new characters are too small or too big.

did something happen to the font thread?
yes, why are the fonts missing?
Wondering too.I created some flipfonts.now where to post?maybe I'm allowed to share them here again.
post to keep this thread up or shall I start a new one with a collection of all flipfonts/my flipfonts?
Thanks for the tutorial.
Soon, i'm converting the fonts on my PC to my SGS!

I went ahead and rooted my phone pretty much for the purpose of custom theming and graphics. This is what I've got so far:

Now, what I need to wrap this up is some nice, red icons, but, I haven't been able to find ICONS anywhere.
Any help would be appreciated, and if it matters, I'm running the rooted version of the latest OTA (1.47.65.1.1 or whatever).
Have you checked the theme forum? I am sure there are some in those packages.
Yep, I did, and I didn't see any that were red in the themes posted, and, it seems liek no one just posts icon sets in there.
what kind of icons? for the battery and menu stuff?

I think you will have to explore /system/framework/com.htc.resources.apk
not positive though, but worth a look

I had that in a chat log.....
or you can go the hard way and edit .apk's, and push them to your phone.
Use gimp or irfanview or whatever photoediting software to resize them for your phone... 72x72 is what they are.
Wow man, thanks a ton. I'm actually about to get started on this now.
And jsut a quick question... the icon packs... I just move them to my sd card right?

ok no problem.
just put all your icons in a folder on your sd card and its pretty simple.
good luck... let me know if you need some more help.
Remember alot of the icons you download are larger than 72x72... you need to resize them!
There are icon packs on the market but they are crappy! Google, DeviantArt... you'll find what you need.

how were you able to change the sprint name on your lockscreen and notification?? that looks slick!

I think one method is through the CDMA workshop. There are a few tutorials on it (in dev section I think?)

Hello everyone
Let me know if I can get a list of names of the icons displayed on the menu.
I want to create a theme icons but it is hard to see any apps that name carries.
For example facebook: icon_launcher_facebook.png but there are applications that do not respond to this syntax.
Any idea?
Maybe this helps a bit, there is a icon set theming tutorial in one of first posts of the following thread

Yes I read the details of the post.
My idea is to create a theme for the stock sense and not for the venom (using a framework for the icons).
I know but i thought it might be helpful to understand some more about the logic behind it......

I think it's completely different.
I'm looking on google for days but could not find anything about it.
I avoid using rom with non-standard options (see venom, virtuous, etc.) simply because these options change from smartphone to smartphone.
So it is more logical to rely on the standard android instead of trying mods that are born and die in the same way.
Then im afraid i can't give you the answer how to do it atm......ah well at least i tried

Download:
Grab it from userstyles.org:
http://userstyles.org/styles/94422/xda-2013-to-2010?r=1382614350
Installation:
You'll need Stylish (Stylish for Firefox | Stylish for Chrome | Stylish for Opera | Stylish for Safari) or a similar add-on to apply the userstyle.
FAQ:
Q: Does this theme apply to all of XDA?
A: No, it only changes the forums (the Portal, Wiki, etc are untouched).
Q: I found a part that isn't themed!
A: Let me know, post a link to the page and I'll fix it.
Q: 2010 still has different layouts, some items are in different positions, etc. Can you change that?
A: It depends. Basically, I probably won't be able to change any item's position and make it look good using a userstyle.
Q: Are the ads removed?
A: No.
Q: How can I be notified of updates?
A: Stylish should automatically check & download updates (unless you have that option turned off). Otherwise I'll post in this thread whenever I update, so you can also subscribe if you want.
Q: Can I check the source code?
A: It's available on userstyles.org, just click the "Show Code" button.
Q: Are there any risks?
A: Risks are explained here, and you can check the code to make sure it's clean.

Hey @GermainZ
Just wanted to thank you for turning my page dark. At first I tried the Dark XDA "Retro" 2010 look and liked it...until I saw your signature and the fully Dark XDA Theme with the Universal Mods. Love this look! It's so much easier on the eyes too after spending so much time in front of a computer all day.
I try never to skip a day of the News board or XDA on Google+ because I know I'm bound to find something cool to learn or to try. And today, my friend, you made the News thread and XDA site more of a playground than it already was for me. Lol Awesome work, sir!!
Thanks again,

Sorry ... accidentially posted in the wrong thread.
There's so much difference between xda 2010 theme and xda 2015 theme! Amazing work :good: :good: :good:
I've been around for so long, and it's only now that i found this...
It's never to late to say thanks, so many, many thanks, i find it way better like this
Also like your dark/blue theme, but the unread threads aren't too easily to find for me.
I don't know if you can understand what i mean, but even if the unread threads are bold, they don't catch my eyes as they do in the 2013 to 2010 theme
@GermainZ I don't know if you'll ever come back here but... here's a little question, would it be possible to move the "subscribe forum" and "mark forum read" buttons as we loose many space because of them ?
i've made a screenshot to make it more clear :
We've been hard at work on a complete redesign of the XDA Forums and Portal. We wanted to build something that was clean, modern, fast, and that could manage to include a lot of useful functionality without feeling cluttered. While we're not finished with the new forum template, which we're calling "XDA 2015", we're close enough that XDA members that want to can use the new template and help us find bugs and other issues before we make it the default template for all users. :good: :good:
To see the new forum template click this link. You can always go back to the previous 2013 template (or any of our styles) with the style-picker in the bottom left corner of all forum pages.
Over the coming weeks, we'll be making many more changes to XDA 2015 to improve performance, readability, and functionality. We also have a few surprises coming that aren't ready just yet. :highfive:
This beta is only for the desktop version of the site, as the mobile template is not yet ready for testing. Please mention any bugs you find or requests you have in this thread.
Thanks really much but I can't see any area for participated?

Looking really great on Desktop - on Firefox and Chrome.
IE - looking very dodgy though - spaces and gaps all over the place.
Can use all browsers myself, but some corporate types might be stuck with IE.
Just a quick one (And this may be me as a noob to the new theme) but how can I tell which sub forums have unread messages in and which don't.
Here is an example of what I see when looking at the Z1 device subforum
http://prntscr.com/4jts0m
Some of those threads (Like accessories) have no unread threads in them but some do (Like general) but they look the same to me.
Once in a subforum I can tell http://prntscr.com/4jtsj8 (Arrows show read and unread thread)
Hope this helps

One question, is there a way to hide the column at the right? I can't seem to find how. If not, I hope that you will implement it in the future.

Blue is the default chrome highlight color. I don't think we're going to override that for other drop downs because it adds more code to the page. We styled the critical areas (like the header and some post areas).

Sorry should have thought about that, Win 7 pro and IE 9 - (Business laptop and v10 and 11 are blocked from installing still - some dodgy internal issues.)
Home desktop runs 11 and that looks really awesome - so perhaps it's not something to be too concerned about!!!
Note: 'Control Panel' button was my favorite 'Home' button for xda - Is it gone permanently? I hope not!!
LOVE the size limit and scroll bars for signatures. +++++ 1000

Control panel has been renamed to Settings.
IE9 does not display a lot of styles correctly - did some website stuff myself a couple of months back on my personal site and the amount of hacks needed to support IE9 fully is unreal (especially with HTML5 and CSS3).
Some more questions/remarks:
The portal doesn't appear to have changed for me. Not sure if this is normal, but the OP mentions the portal as well.
Could some of the older icons also be redesigned (e.g.
, thread icons, smileys…)? Might be just me, but they don't look consistent with the rest of the design.
Some icons don't use a transparent background (e.g.
). This is only noticeable when the post gets highlighted, so it's pretty minor.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/subscription.php -> no sidebar, but the sidebar's space is reserved.
The spacing between the top bar (breadcrumbs) and the thread/post/group/profile is a bit off (screenshot — see red bar for spacing difference).

This is great! I feel like I'm the captain in charge of a spaceship. It's a lot more immersive with the new top bar. I did notice that my signature has a scroll bar. I didn't think it was that long, but it's a great idea to keep from having to scroll through some pretty massive sigs. Now where'd that pesky Thanks button go? Oh on the right...
I am on mobile now, but this is what I see.

How about the possibility of changing theme to the old one on the XDA portal? I'd like to change it to the old theme and layout, but there is no way to do that. I'd be fine with the new look if there would be a dark skin, but we're forced to use the default white theme. It would be nice if we could change that.
Another thing I don't like is that when u switch to the new xda forum look the quick links tab is gone, so there's no way to QUICKLY view all subscribed threads like it was possible before. That's pretty annoying...
I also found out that on the latest up-to-date chrome you can't press multi-quote. Well, you can, but it doesn't get selected like if you wouldn't press it. Thanks button works fine though. I'm talking about the new design.
Regarding the Chrome / multi-quote issue, it works fine for me using the latest Chrome.

I'd love to see your userstyle. Especially for the old design as the lack of userstyle for the new xda portal is something that made me switch from your forum black version to the XDA 2015 theme.
Well, yeah, before you could view both read and unread subscribed threads, now you can't.
Does the portal not have a way to submit news tips now ?
