Evo 4g With WINdows MObile? Is It Possible? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Question is the thread...

Sure, just like people are working on a 100% compatible Android ROM for the HD2. Just have to wait for a dev to take interest and port the OS for the Evo hardware.
If it happens, you'll see it here.

actually this has been asked MANY times in here.. just sayin... but I'm sure there isnt a 4g winmo modem driver yet.

There are a bunch of threads asking this, & the most common answer is: probably not.
Of course it's possible, but likely not going to happen due to lack of interest in the community, as well as any of the dev's.

Well, you'd think all of the threads about this would show an interest... right?
I'd be another one to switch an evo to winmo 6.5 or at least dual boot...

I see these threads and wonder, why? It's like buying a Corvette then putting a lawn mower engine in it. I'm sure someone could get it to work, but what's the point?

I don't completely agree with that wm still offers a few benefits. I have always been keen to options. I bought a lawn mower (dell mini 10v and have windows 7, osx snow leopard, android eclair, ubuntu, and jolicloud in a multiboot.) Just because I can. I think a dual boot android and wm would be a great idea similar to the iphone iboot between android and ios

For every one of these threads with a few users wanting WinMo on the EVO, it usually brings like 50 posts of flaming about it, so i'm willing to bet those wanting WinMo is a very small percentage of the community.
Also, there haven't been any dev's showing interest, which is the key part.

why not just buy a HD2? its the same exact phone win winMO (except the 4g ofcourse)....and i think dual booting a phone is pathetic that's why there's portable laptops? let a phone just be a phone...

Touch Pro 2 vs. G1

I swithced phoens so I have a g1 right now, and honestly I dont think that at least for me the touchpro 2's os well be better than android, android is a little TO simple, like it doesnt allow as much customization sure its open source but who cares! even without the source code windows mobile is way more customizable, at least for now, is what most peopple say, but I dont think andorid will ever be as customizable cause the people who use it prefer siploer phones than wm phone users normally so over all what do u think is better? I say G1 100%
EditL OMG IM SO SORRY LOL I MENT TOUCH PRO 2 100000% not G1 100% lol
Because it´s design and is more buisness oriented I´ll go for TP2 definetly!!
Android OS is so young now... perhaps in the future we can see a more mature and solid OS...

plus the phone itself is 100X better than the G1, I switched sims with my brother for a while so I am using a G1 its simpler than windows mobile that's for sure... too simple... lol and anyways I think that android is targeting a diffrence audiiance, and also I didnt have a data plan and it works for me, and so you dont get charged there is an app to disable data I think but I didnt get it I just dont connect to gmail or go on the web
I would say the Pro2 is better because it has WinMo preinstalled, and I'll bet that within a year, some people will take the initiative to port Android to the devices. Some of the hardware may never be fully taken advantage of (like the zoom bar, camera, etc), but the OS will probably still run well. So the way I see it, if you get the Pro2, you get both OSes, but you only get one with the G1. And I don't think I could give up Windows Mobile (I'm an addict ).

New to the TP2 2 wks old but.............
Hiya everyone. I have had a G1 since it came out the first day. I will admit it took a bit getting used to. However over the time I have had it I have done some mods to it. Its rooted I have had the Motorola Droid OS the Hero OS and Cyanogens OS several times. Each has its own benefits and quirks. I have yet to modify my TP2 mostly because I am skeeered of bricking it! LOL
Personally I feel that the Android OS is making strides as to becoming one of the top OS's on the market but it will have its niche. I think if you are in business then the TP2 is a great choice. But then again I have only had it for a short time.
So far so Good!

Replace EVO's Android with Oboe's WinMo, is this even possible?

You can skip to the actual question below if you do not want to read.
I am what you would call a "fanBoy" of WinMo and have been for many years, but for the right reasons. It has provided me with the tools I need and understand with minimal to no trouble, though it may be due to the fact I actually know what my devices are for and can do.
For years now, I have been waiting to replace my HTC Diamond with a WinMo device from either HTC or SE for my current carrier Sprint, we all know the latter isn't happening. The Diamond serve me as much as it was going to, so it was necessary to replace it and since no HD2 or WinMo EVO like device came to sprint I had to suck it up and get the EVO with Android.
Don't get me wrong, Android is a pretty powerful OS in its own right, but not my cup of tea, too "stupid proof" if you asked me, just like IOS... what I need is a WinMo device, of course Windows Phone 7 device, on Sprint. I know Sprint will eventually have one if not late this year early next, but I already have the EVO and came across this article SO I COULD NOT POST A LINK (Google HTC Oboe) and saw an EVO-like CDMA HTC phone. This brings me to the my questions: Do you think replacing Android with workable ROMs of WinMo/WP7 will ever be possible (I know a dual boot on Android device has been proposed yet nowhere to be found), and if so where in XDA could I suggest or request this to be started by some of the developers? I mean the Oboe seems pretty close to the EVO, I am just not sure if the internal components are so compatible when it comes to running a different OS.
Moderators, please excuse my "n00bidity" and my English (not my first lang.), but while I try to be respectful and keep a decent online etiquette, some times I don't know what I am doing. I tried to find the best spot to talk about this idea and ask questions and this area seemed to be the most reasonable one... If there is a better spot, I don't mind it being moved there. I searched and couldn't come up with a conclusive answer so I hope that at least this question helps others asking it as well. Thanks.
Sure I would imagine its possible I mean almost anything is possible. The problem is I highly DOUBT any developer would waste their time porting WM to the EVO.
Its been asked many times before..here is just one

Why do we have at least one of these threads for every phone released. Short answer, no. Long answer, it is theoretically possible but nobody on here is going to head up a project to do this. We are Android "fanboys" and find it to be much better than WinMo. However, if you would be interested in doing this you would have to first modify the bootloader to allow it to even boot WinMo. After booting you would need to make sure all the drivers work with it. Since, unlike Android, WinMo is closed source this is near impossible.
just do me a favor, BUY my HD2 thats sitting in the dust since u love windows so much.
searching does you good.
Question, can I put a Chevy volt engine in my new Ferrari, I love the look of the Ferrari but I want the electric engine?

Possible to get wm 6.5 on an LG WP7 device?

Does anyone know if theres any work getting windows mobile 6.5 onto the new LG WP7 device? I personally cannot stand the new windows mobile solution. Granted it is very fast and has some nifty features, but it screams iPhone to me. Microsoft took its new mobile platform and built it to go head to head with the iphone functionality and Ui, but like the iphone its too locked down for me. I was hoping that there might be a group of individuals that are working to get windows mobile 6.5 onto these new devices. I would love to have all the functionality and freedom 6.5 gives me on hella speedier hardware that is Windows Phone 7. I will say though that the LG;s slide out keyboard feels clunky. The function key is in a horrible spot too.
Sorry bout the rant and getting off topic. Its the last few weeks of the semester and all of my instructors are sadistic in having a whole boatload of essays due at the same time.l Again, sorry bout the /rant.
Please Please Please get wm6.5 to run on the LG Optimus. Please!
Or....you could have bought the HD2
I could have, but I need a physical keyboard. Thats a non negotiable feature.
I have no idea... the answer is probably no, but it sounds like a cool, fun thing Kind of reminds me of trying to run DR. DOS 6 on my brand new, shiny 486DX. And memory extenders to load drivers into the area bove 640k.
Why you ask? IIRC, it was because I wanted to finish some ancient game on 5.25" floppies. Maybe Roger Wilco (SpaceQuest by Sierra) or Hero's Quest.
has it been possible to get any OS on the root of another device???
I'm guessing probably not.
there are still some tp2's floating around and I here they've been overclocked.
There is an LG Fathom that is snapdragon powered with WM6.5.3 and a keyboard, smallish 3.2" screen though, but is at least WVGA res.

Get a Touch Pro 2.
There's the LG GW820 on AT&T.
Soo... Been a while. Can someone list the requirements? Can drivers from devices such as the fathom be used if we can install the OS somehow? Where do we stand on that issue?

i knew it wasnt possible when i purchased my device. I was looking for further development information, and whether someone with more experience with the devices could tell me if there were any major differences between the hardware of the fathom and the lg wp7 phones. are you informatively telling me there are no similarities and this will never be possible, or are you flaming?
Not Possible, closed.

Is it feasible to port windows phone 7 to the g2

Topic.
Only reason I ask is because I'm the type that gets bored with phones easily so I'm looking to switch it up a bit. That, and I like the Zune features..
How would you port it with no source code ?
WHY would you want to pollute a GOOD phone with that TRASH???!?!?

If you get bored with Android, its OPEN SOURCE!!! Start coding/hacking.
Coding is exciting. Way more fun than dumpster diving.
And its even LEGAL.
If you really are bored with the phone, then sell it and buy a WP7 phone. You'll probably come back to Android once you see all the things that are currently missing from WP7.
I think it'd be cool to dual boot instead of having to go out and purchase a whole new phone. For now the closest we've got it Windows 3.1 over aDoxBox ... rofl!
Do a search for the dual boot threads, and find a WP7 dev willing to leak source. Still don't understand how anything about this phone and it's dev community can be boring.

would it be possible to get windows mobile 7 working?

I was wondering if was even possible, i noticed that verizon doesn't even have a windows mobile 7 phone and i'd like to play with it for a bit and yes the whole xbox live thing interests me
Then you will have to wait for verizon to have a WP7 Phone. Even if a rom was somehow ported over and made to work with the Increbile, it would be very limited, and it's already been said that the xbox live function would not be able to work. I don't have the link for it but a quick google search should net you that information.

Bobboman, that would be an interesting concept. I wrote the thread regarding possibly porting over a BBerry 6 styled UI, but no takers and don't even know if it is possible at that.
MIUI gives you an iPhoneish experience and that makes me believe if somebody invested their time in prepping such a ROM resembling WP7 or BBerry 6, it could be accomplished. Again, i'm just speculating here, but I like where your head is at and I too look forward to anything our crazy bad ass Dev's come up with.
it really would, i did like MIUI but at the same time it felt way too much like the Iphone for me to continue using it though my ex girlfriend is using it on her droid OG

I had the same issue. The trick to miui is using the aosp elements theme. No more iPhoney icons.

There is a WP7 theme, if you just want the look. The info is in Android Themes and Apps.

Cooking a ROM that has a similar feel to WP7 and actually porting it (which is what the OP wants) are two entirely different animals. Customizing the appearance of the UI is one thing... actually implementing the functionality that's core to WP7 is an entirely different animal. Since WP7 is not open source, a successful port is extremely problematic at best... even Android to Android ports have their limitations (such as those found in the Desire Z ports).

No bashing here. Some rabid purists would say, "If you want the ____ experience, you should buy a ____ phone". Hell, one of the main bennies of our phones is customization.
Like I said though, it would be possible for someone with talent (that I admittantly lack) to come up with a similar UI. But without access to source, porting the functionality that we'd want from WP7 isn't especially probable.
thanks for explaining that najaboy i figured that it was as simple as getting ahold of stock windows mobile 7 giving it the Inc drivers and going from there
i saw that the HD2 is running it so i thought it might be possible to bring it to the inc even with basic functionality if i knew how to even attempt it i would my self
and yea themeing is not something i'm interested in, i do like the stock look of android but windows mobile 7 would be fun to play with i think
and saying if you like it so much why don't you buy it is such a stupid thing to say as 1) verizon doesn't have it and 2) when i upgraded to the incredible windows mobile 7 wasn't even out yet
